M-1 Global President Vadim Finkelchtein talks about Fedor’s possible match-ups and expectations from his long-awaited return to MMA

Were you surprised when you heard about Fedor returning to professional fighting?

 

VF: “Well, yes, I was surprised. I lost hope for his comeback after one or two years of negotiations. I just couldn’t do it. One time he asked me not to talk about this anymore. But about a week ago he told me that he might make a comeback. I couldn’t believe what I heard. I was happy to hear that, but the real decision he made only a couple of days ago.”

 

Will Fedor continue his work in Russian MMA Union?

 

VF: “Yes, I’m sure that fighting wouldn’t become a distraction from his post of President of MMA Federation.”

 

What did Fedor Emelianenko tell you about his possible match-ups and opponents?

 

VF: “There’s no definite information yet.  The only thing he told me is that he needed to prepare well enough to become as dangerous as he used be.  Mentally, he is ready to fight; his attitude about fighting is great.  I think he has  good chance to show the best version of himself.

What do you think about his next fight? When will we see it?

VF: “I can’t tell you exactly right now. I would like him to make his first fight in Russia, of course, but this is all up to him, after all. But it would be great if first he makes it for his Russian fans. They would be happy.”

 

Will you make the third M-1 Global event with Fedor as the headliner?

VF: “I’d like that, of course. It would be awesome to make a show in “Olimpiyskiy” like we did when he was leaving. That show gathered 22,000 spectators and was a great present for all his fans. And then he would go abroad. This is of course is only my desire for now. I will work on it. Maybe we will make it happen.”

 

Who do you see as his next opponent?

VF: “I think any M-1 heavyweight would accept this fight. Actually, he can face any TOP heavyweight from all over the World.”

 

How long will Fedor be able to fight in your opinion?

 

VF: “I think for a couple of years, easily.”

Light heavyweight contenders Maro Perak & Viktor Nemkov To headline M-1 Challenge 60 August 5 in Orel, Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (July 15, 2015) – A pair of past M-1 Challenge championship contenders, Maro “Mean Machine” Perak and Viktor Nemkov, will battle August 5 in the main event at M-1 Challenge 60 in Orel, Russia with the winner positioning himself for a potential title shot against M-1 Challenge light heavyweight champion Stephan Puetz..

Perak (23-5-1, 12 KO/TKO, 7 SUB), fighting out of Croatia, is coming off tough, competitive fights against two of the best heavyweights in the world, another past M-1 Challenge title challenger, Denis Smoldarev, and reigning M-1 Challenge champion Marcin Tybura.

 

This past February at M-1 Challenge 55, Perak lost by submission (arm-lock) to Smoldarev in the opening round. Perak’s only title fight to date was April 4, 2014, in which he was stopped in the third round by Tybura’s punches.

 

After his aforementioned fights, Perak decided to drop down in weight to fight as a light heavyweight. He was scheduled face Rashad Yusupov last May at M-1 Challenge 57, however, a knee surgery forced Perak out of that fight and he will instead make his M-1 light heavyweight debut versus Nemkov. Perak will be looking for his first win in M-1 Global competition, fighting for the fourth time in an event presented by the highly respected Russian promotional company.

A native of Kazakhstan, now fighting out of Belgorod, Russia, Nemkov (16-8-0, 9 KO/TKO, 4 SUB) hopes the third time is the charm for him. He has lost two M-1 Challenge light heavyweight title fights, March 14, 2014 toPuetz by split decision at M-1 Challenge 46, and back in 2011 to Vinny Magalhaes by third-round submission (choke) at M-1 Challenge 25.

 

A veteran of 16 M-1 Global fights (9-7-0), Nemkov has been sidelined the past 1 ½ years recovering from a series of injuries.

 

Nemkov’s return and Perak’s debut as a light heavyweight adds up to an explosive fight for the right to challenge Puetz.

 

 

Three other fights have been announced this far for M-1 Challenge 60: Battle in Orel. All fights and fighters are subject to change, additional bouts will soon be announced.

 

Polish light heavyweight Marcin Zontek (14-8-0, 6 KO/TKO, 5 SUB) takes on Maxim Futin, of Russia, Zulfikar Usmanov (7-4-1, 1 KO/TKO, 4 SUB) faces Alexey “Ataman” Makhno (9-3-0, 4 KO/TKO, 1 SUB) in a battle of Russian lightweights, and French bantamweight Moktar Benkaci (11-6-0) meets Evgeni Lazukov (7-2-0, 1 KO/TKO, 1 SUB), of Russia.

 

 Zontek (14-8-0, 6 KO/TKO, 5 SUB) (pictured to left) plans a spectacular comeback from his 2012 bloody fight with Sergey Korneev for the M-1 Challenge light heavyweight title. Zontek needed more than 2 ½ years to fully recover from his loss but he won his last two fights going into his Aug. 5 fight.

 

 

A two-time Combat Sambo champion and European vice-champion, Futin (4-2-0, 4 KO/TKO) is an exciting fighter who often spars with Vyacheslav Vasilevky. Futin is always in great shape and known as an excellent striker.

 

Usmanov (pictured below left) is an experienced MMA fighter from St. Petersburg.

A powerful striker, he has twice been awarded “Fight of the Night” bonuses. Riding a five-fight win streak, Makhno is a promising prospect whose M-1 Challenge debut ended with a sensational knockout victory over Rakhman Makhazhiev (pictured below right).

 

    

In his most recent fight, Benkaci (11-7-0, 3 KO/TKO, 7 SUB) gave Nikita Chistyakovall he could handle, albeit in a loss by majority decision. Benkaci (pictured below left), whose previous fights have been at featherweight, was at a disadvantage fighting Chistyakov at lightweight. When M-1 Global launched its bantamweight division last month, dropped down to a much more comfortable weight class for him.

 

A seven-time European Universal Combat champion, Lazukov (pictured below right) showed his potential early, defeating UFC flyweight contender Ali Begautinov during his relatively young professional career.

 

 

M-1 Challenge 60 will be streamed live from Orel in high definition onwww.M1Global.TV. Viewers will be able to watch the preliminary fights and main card by logging on to register at www.M1Global.TV. Vineland, NJ (July 15, 2015)–Due to a conflict with the New Jersey Motorsports Park, the July 25 Rising Star Promotions event has been moved to Saturday August 1 at Vendetta Boxing (217 West Peach Street) in Vineland, New Jersey.

WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING SIGNS ADAM WARD AND ANDREAS SPANG

LAS VEGAS (July 15, 2015) –World championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) announced today that it has expanded its roster again with the signing of two new athletes – red-hot featherweight (145 pounds) Adam Ward and battle-tested,  light heavyweight (205 pounds) finisher Andreas “Sweet Swede” Spang– to exclusive, multi-fight agreements.

“We are thrilled to welcome Adam and Andreas – two aggressive and exciting competitors whose respective careers are on the upswing – to the rapidly expanding WSOF roster of world-class talent,” said WSOF President Ray Sefo.

Ward’s and Spang’s WSOF debuts will be announced soon.

The 29-year-old Ward (15-6) of Chicago, Ill. is a versatile and prolific competitor who is in the midst of a six-fight winning streak dating back to Sept. 27, 2013 when the Gilbert Grappling team member made quick work of Pedro Velasco, submitting Velasco with a rear-naked choke in just 46 seconds.

In his last start, Ward earned a unanimous decision over Strikeforce veteran Rey “The Warrior” Trujillo.

Spang (9-3) is a 36-year-old native of Sweden who resides in Las Vegas and trains under “One Kick” Nick Blomgren.  A former amateur boxer who amassed a career record of 15-5, Spang also dabbled in professional kickboxing where he went 1-0 for the once great Japanese kickboxing promotion, K-1.

To date, Spang’s best conquest is perhaps his second round (3:34) KO (punch) of Brian “The Professional  Predator” Rogers on April 20, 2012.  When he enters the WSOF cage for the first time, Spang will be looking to notch his second straight win after earning a unanimous decision over J.A. Dudley on Dec. 5, 2014.

NEF STARS LOOKING TO GET BACK ON THE WINNING TRACK IN LEWISTON

Lewiston, Maine (July 15, 2015) – New England Fights (NEF), America’s number-one regional fight promotion, will hold its nineteenth mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event, “NEF XIX,” on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine.  Earlier today, the promotion announced the addition of a professional bout to the fight card. Tollison Lewis (0-4) has signed to face “Shatterproof 2.0” Derek Shorey (2-2) at a fight weight of 150-pounds.  NEF further announced that Lewis had signed a long term, multi-fight contract with the company.

 

Following a lengthy amateur career that saw him compete in the cage thirteen times, Tollison Lewis got off to a slow start in his professional career.  He has been known throughout his career to take the toughest fights he can find, and Lewis’s four losses have all come at the hands of fighters who currently have winning records, with a combined win-loss tally of 16-6.  Last fall, at NEF’s first boxing event, Lewis defeated veteran boxer John Webster  (8-7-1) after taking the bout on just a day’s notice.  With a brand new NEF contract in tow, a child on the way, and a respite from the sport behind him, Lewis will now look to carry his success from the NEF boxing ring over to the MMA cage.  The 150-pound catchweight will be the first step in Lewis’s transition from the lightweight to featherweight division.

 

“First off I’d like to thank NEF for the opportunity again,” said Lewis.  “I’ve been on a long break with my baby girl on the way getting prepared for fatherhood, but I’m back now.  I’m super excited for this fight and also making my way down in weight. Shorey is a tough guy and also very genuine person.  He’s as dangerous as any man who steps in that cage.  I’ll be ready and I know he will be coming hard and dangerous with bad intentions behind everything and when that cage door closes, he’s no friend – it’s all business.  Be ready Derek, because I will be.  Let’s give these fans a show and test ourselves to the limit.”

 

The founder and head of the Shatterproof Combat Club, Derek Shorey is looking to bounce back from what he considers the worst loss of his career.  Indeed, Jeremy DiChiara (2-0) unleashed an offensive barrage on Shorey at “NEF XVIII” last month that resulted in a first-round stoppage.  Like Lewis, Shorey is also an NEF-signed athlete.  Also like Lewis, Shorey is looking to give NEF fans a show to remember at “NEF XIX.”

 

“This is a fight I’ve seen coming and I’ve wanted for a long time,” said Shorey.  “Tollison will not back down, and he’s not afraid to get hit.  I’m coming off the worst performance of my career, and my family, friends and fans deserve better than that.  I’m excited to get in there and mix it up with Lewis and give the NEF fans the best performance of my career.”

“I am trying to get back to the level I once was at. I spent a lot of time out of the ring with non-boxing issues, but now I feel fully focused in the ring.
“I feel more comfortable in the ring and I feel like I have the right tools to win this fight on Saturday.
“Each fight you must prove something, you need to win and put on a good show. I think the fans will see a great fight on Saturday between two Mexican fighters. When I fight I try to do my best in the ring.
“I think 168 is a good weight class for me. Going into my last fight I had an extended period of time off and I didn’t know how my body would respond.
“I will have two more fights this year, but I can’t look past this Saturday. I respect my opponent, because all my opponents are looking to beat me.
“Training with Robert Garcia has been great. I have a great connection with him because he knows how fighters are feeling in the ring.
“I am working more on my jab, I have changed a little bit of my style under Robert Garcia.”

 

MARCOS REYES

“Training camp has been the best it has ever been and I am in great shape to win this fight.

 

“I am so excited for this opportunity to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I have been counting down the days.

“My career was going excellent until I made a mistake and took a fight that I shouldn’t have. My team was telling me no and I took the fight anyway which led to my first and only loss. They say ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,’ and I truly believe that.

 

“They call Carl Frampton a superstar in the UK. He has a world championship. I’m a contender.

 

“When I become champion, I will have a following, especially when I beat Carl Frampton.

 

“Everyone has a different style. I’m an intelligent fighter. I’m a Mexican that just takes punches. I can take care of myself. I’m 23-years-old and ready to fight a good fight against a good opponent.

“The main thing is to give the fans a great show. I am going to go for that title. I’m working and grinding.

 

“Training camp has been going very well. I have been in camp for six weeks. The main thing about this fight is my boxing performance. My weight is what it is, this is me.

 

“I may not have the six-pack, but I will have the punch to knock somebody out.

“I can’t say I have noticed anything different because I haven’t been in his previous camps. All I can say is that he has showed me something that I didn’t expect.

“All I heard from the fans and the media was the way he conducted his training camps, but I was surprised. I got nothing but good results. He showed up to the gym every day and did everything he was supposed to do.
“He has sparred just around 100 rounds, that’s more than he has done in any other training camp. The training camp was much easier than I expected.
“I’m training Julio not just to beat Marcos Reyes, but I’m training Julio to get him better for three or four fights from now to look at something real big.
“This is the biggest opportunity in Reyes’ career, so we must be ready for him. He also has a great trainer in Nacho Beristain, who may be the best trainer ever, so we must be ready for that too.
“Right after Julio’s loss to [Andrzej] Fonfara, he got right back in the gym to prepare for this fight. He wants to fight on Saturday and then have two more fights before the end of the year. I think this is exactly what Julio needs, to stay active. The fighters that fight just once or twice a year lose their rhythm.”

“He’s only had 20 fights, but he had an extensive amateur career.  He’s a very talented guy. Chronologically, he’s 28, but physiologically he’s more like in his early twenties.

 

“He’s hugely excited about his U.S. debut and today’s turnout has only amped that up. We know we’re up against a difficult kid.

 

“We think he’ll be more difficult than his last mandatory defense against Chris Avalos. We think he’ll be cuter than Avalos and fight more defensively. Carl is going to have to go get him. The bottom line here is we have to make an impression.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 15, 2015) – Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard’s (32-14-2 2 NC) first bout under the Bellator MMA banner will come in lightweight action against Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (11-4) on Friday, Aug. 28 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

 

The contest serves as the headlining bout of “Bellator MMA: Guillard vs. Girtz,” which airs live on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, while preliminary bouts will stream on Spike.com at 7 p.m. ET. Additional bouts will be announced shortly.

 

Tickets for Bellator 141, which start at just $50, go on sale this Friday at Pechanga.com and the Pechanga Resort & Casino box office. Doors for the event open at 4 p.m. PT local time, and the first contest takes place one hour later.

 

“Since signing Melvin [Guillard] in May, we have been anxious to get him inside the Bellator cage,” Bellator MMA President Scott Coker said. “Brandon Girtz has performed well for us and will face his stiffest competition to date when he meets the 50-fight veteran. I’m really looking forward to the event, as well as returning to one of our favorite venues in Pechanga Resort and Casino.”

At only 32 years of age, “The Young Assassin” has amassed 50 professional bouts in a career that dates back to 2002. With 21 victories coming by KO, Guillard has generated a large fan base with his exciting fighting style.

Born in New Orleans, the knockout artist has honed his skills at some of the top MMA gyms in the world including: Jackson’s MMA, Blackzilians, Grudge Training Center and American Top Team, where he currently trains. During his 22-fight stint with Ultimate Fighting Championship, Guillard broke MMA great BJ Penn’s record for most KO’s in the lightweight division with eight, an accolade that he still holds to this day.

An NCAA Division II All-American at Minnesota State University, Girtz has competed for Bellator MMA since 2012, accruing a record of 4-2. It’s safe to say that the Northway Martial Arts-product is a “submission specialist,” with seven of his 11 professional victories coming by way of making his opponent tap out.

“Cold Roll” was officially cleared to return to active competition in May after suffering an ACL injury during training. This return bout will be Girtz’s first appearance in 2015, and will also serve as his first time in a headlining role.

Pro Boxing Returns To Cyclones’ MCU Park For The First Time Since 2001.
BROOKLYN, NY (July 15, 2015) – World-renowned boxer Dmitriy Salita and his Brooklyn Brawl series will heat up Coney Island on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as the former IBF, WBA and NABA International Junior Welterweight Champion brings “Boxing At The Beach” back to MCU Park, the home of baseball’s Brooklyn Cyclones. Salita Promotions will open a year’s worth of events with a professional fight card at the New York Mets’ minor league venue on that evening, giving New York City and area sports fans a chance to catch rising stars and contenders as they rumble at the boardwalk.

Gates open at 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7 p.m. as “Brooklyn Brawl: Boxing At The Beach” brings pro bouts to the Coney Island boardwalk for the first time in 14 years. Headlining the Aug. 25 Brooklyn Brawl in Coney Island will be Alex Miskartachian (25-3-1), a world-rated former world title challenger and two-time European champion from Armenia. Undefeated lightweight contender Dimash Niyazov, of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, will face his sternest test as a pro, when he meets former New York State champion and Jamaica, Queens, native Ariel Duran, in a Kings vs. Queens County crossroads NYC clash.

Junior welterweight prospect Treysean “Trigger” Wiggins (6-1, 5 KOs) has signed on for the Brooklyn Brawl fight card, itching to count another knockout among his burgeoning total, and add to his reputation as the fighting pride of Newburgh, N.Y. Wiggins will face the toughest test of his career as he takes on former top ten world-rated junior welterweight contender and always upset minded Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa (20-7) of the Bronx.

Fighting out of Kazakhstan and now residing in Brooklyn, Bakhtiyar Eubov (6-0, 6 KOs) looks to impress his new hometown fans with another knockout performance. The amateur standout is now living and training out of Marine Park, and each of his six wins have come via stoppage.

Fighting out of Jamaica, Queens, Giorgi Gelashvili, a junior welterweight making his professional debut, is a former three-time Georgian national champion looking forward to impressing at the famed summertime hot-spot, with several more fighters and matchups to be added to the Aug. 25 card at the beach.

LOS ANGELES (July 14, 2015) – Mexican boxing stars Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (30-0-1, 17 KOs) and Abner Mares (29-1-1, 15 KOs) met today at Plaza Mexico to officially announced their Saturday, August 29 Premier Boxing Champions on ESPNshowdown taking place at STAPLES Center.

 

The fighters hosted an open-to-the-public press conference and fan rally to discuss their upcoming bout with media members and met with fans to sign autographs and take pictures.

 

Hundreds of fans attended the event at Plaza Mexico in Linwood and the fighters stayed to sign autographs for over two hours afterwards.

 

Here’s what the two fighters and their trainers had to say:

 

LEO SANTA CRUZ

 

“I want to thank all of the fans who are here and I appreciate the support. We always train 100 percent like we’re fighting for a championship.

 

“I think the fans are the ones who are going to win on August 29th. They are going to get a great fight out there. It’s going to be a war.

 

“I don’t care what he said about my competition. I’ve wanted to fight him for a long time, this going to be a great fight.
