LAS VEGAS (Maig 19, 2021) – Only five boxers have started their professional careers with a 50-fight win streak and the contemporary leader, 41-0 Gilberto "Esquerrà" Ramirez is on a mission to join the exclusive club, continuing July 9º in Los Angeles againstSullivan Barrera (22-3, 14 KOs). 

Ramírez, who recently signed an exclusive promotional contract withOscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, was the first Mexican-born super middleweight World champion, and he is currently the No. 3 classificat de pes lleuger al món, per l'Associació Mundial de Boxa (AMB) i Organització Mundial de Boxa (OMB).

    Another Mexican boxer is in the 50-0 Club, No. 4 Carlos Zarate, who reached 52 straight victories off his pro debut, 51 per nocaut, in the 1970’s. Zarate was stopped in his 53rd fight by Puerto Rican starWilfredo Gómez in the fifth round of their 1978 WBC super bantamweight World championship match.

    The only member of the exclusive 50-0 Club to retire undefeated is Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. in fifth place with 50.

    The four inactive boxers in the club – Chavez, Pep, Zarate, and Mayweather – are inducted in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

    Rocky Marcià iBrian Nielson (49), Larry Holmes (48), Ricardo López (47), Joe Calzaghe (46-0) iJim Barry (45) all came close to 50-0 memberships. Lopez (51-0-1) fought a draw in his 48º pro fight withRosendo Alvarez. 

    Ramirez is closing in on boxing history as he fights for his legacy. Five years after he retires, “Zurdo” should rightfully join the four Hall of Famers who are presently ahead of him on the 50-Club list.

“Zurdo” targets Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol

LAS VEGAS (Març 31, 2021) – Former world super middleweight championGilberto "Esquerrà" Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs) is on the hunt and his targets are undefeated Russians, Artur Beterbiev iDmitri Bivol, respectivament, the reigning WBC/IBF and WBA Super light heavyweight World champions.

The 29-year-old Ramirez, who recently signed an exclusive promotional contract withOscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, actualment ocupa la posició núm. 4 i n. 5, respectivament, by the WBA and WBO.

Ramirez was unimpressed by Beterbiev’s recent fight and he wonders where Bivol has been the past 1 ½ anys, because he hasn’t been in the ring.

In his first fight in 519 dia (Octubre. 12, 2019), Beterbiev showed signs of rust and possibly age (36) during his 10º round technical knockout of his relatively unknown German opponent, Adam Deines (19-2-1, 10 KOs).  Ara, Beterbiev is talking about next fighting the winner of the April 10º Joe Smith, Jr. (26-3, 21 KOs) versusMaxim Vlasov (45-3, 26 KOs) d'abril 10º for the vacant WBO 175-pound division title. Vlasov, de pas, was defeated by Ramirez via a 10-round unanimous decision in 2015.

“I expected a lot more from him (Beterbiev),” Ramirez talked about Beterbiev’s fight with Deines. “I thought he looked flat and dull for the majority of the fight. It’s nice of him to temporarily hold my belts, but he should know that I’m coming for all the hardware and will bring the titles back to my people in Mexico.”

Bivol hasn’t thrown a punch during a fight in 17 mesos, since winning a 12-round unanimous decision againstLenin Castell.  Instead of returning against a “name” fighter in defense of his WBA Super title, Bivol will be returning May 1st in London against somebody namedCraig “Spider” Richards 16-1-1, 9 KOs), the WBA No. 8-rated light heavyweight who has never fought outside the United Kingdom.

“I’ve always said Dmitry Bivol was the toughest challenge out there,” Ramirez added, “which is why I want to make this fight happen. I know he’s got a fight coming up and hopefully he stays undefeated so we can make the mega-fight this summer.”

LAS VEGAS (Març 1, 2021) – Undefeated world light heavyweight contender and former world super middleweight champion, Gilberto "Esquerrà" Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs), recently signed an exclusive promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions, primarily because of the strong support he will receive fromOscar De Lay Hoya and his team.

“Ultimately,” the 29-year-old Ramirez explained, “Golden Boy understood the goals and agendas I set for myself and I felt the strong support from Oscar and his team. It’s a multi-fight deal with potential for something longer pending this first experience. From all the conversations my team and I have had with Golden Boy, I felt comfortable with them and the future opportunities that will arise from our relationship.

“Oscar is a great guy and it’s been nothing but a pleasure dealing with him and his team. As my relationship with Golden Boy continues to grow, I’m sure we (Oscar) will become closer. He’s a champion and one of the greatest to ever lace up the gloves. I look forward to working to him closely.”

Ramirez’ goal is to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion world, something he will have a better shot of accomplishing with Golden Boy in his corner.

"(WBA Super light heavyweight World championDmitry) Bivol (17-0, 11 KOs) is someone who has always been on the radar and I have full faith in (Golden Boy matchmaker) Robert Diaz to put together the best fights for me,” Ramirez added. “Unification has always been the goal. I know I’m the best in the division and hope to make this happens for the history books in the near future.”

Aquest passat desembre, Ramirez launched his own promotional company, Zurdo Promotions, which will remain active.

“Zurdo Promotions will continue and stay active,” Ramirez said. “Going forward, all my fights with Golden Boy will be in association with Zurdo Promotions. I will host fights in Mexico to be a bridge between Latin America and the United States. There’s tremendous talent in that region and I hope to use my platform to help and support the underserved fighters in Mexico.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Volta. (Novembre 19, 2018) – El tardà Emanuel Steward, arguably the greatest boxing trainer of all-time, is a member of the Class of 2018 entrar al Saló de la Fama de l'Associació d'Antics Alumnes de Boxa dels EUA.

Steward was a boxer, trainer extraordinaire, and HBO commentator until his untimely death in 2012 a l'edat de 68. His boxing career culminated with his induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996.

 

 

 

A l'edat de 12, Manny moved with his mother from West Virginia to Detroit, where his life soon turned to boxing. Com un boxejador amateur, he compiled a 94-3 registre, destacar per una actuació medalla d'or en el 1963 National Golden Gloves Tournament as a bantamweight, but he decided against trying out for the US Olympic Boxing Team.

Steward also served as National Director of Coaching for USA Boxing in the early 2000’s.

The last world champion Manny trained was Adonis “Superhome” Stevenson, who remains the reigning World Boxing Council (CMB) World light heavyweight champion since 2013.

 

 

 

“Emanuel would always say, nocauts venen!” Stevenson fondly remembered. “He was also the first to tell me, ‘You will be a superstar and a world champion. Just make sure you don’t listen to people with bad intentions because you’ve got natural talent.’ He believed in me even if some people did not think I would ever become a world champion.”

 

 

 

“Emanuel Steward impacted the lives of so many who walked through the doors of Kronk Gym,” dit Chris Cugliari, Director executiu de l'Associació d'Antics Alumnes de Boxa dels EUA. “While he’s most recognized for his achievement at the professional level, his impact was significant in the amateurs. “For years he would come to my National Silver Gloves Tournament that I sponsored and put on in Kansa City just to show his support of the youth program,” added USA Boxing president Joan Marró addicional. “Every year I would tell him to let me know if he was coming, so I could VIP him, and every year he would ignore me and just quietly show up. I would notice him in the crowd. I would ball him out and then we did the same thing the following year.

 

 

 

“I also used to see him at big fights and he would always make me feel special by saying my company saved boxing in the seventies and eighties by providing safe, well-made, fair priced boxing equipment for the sport. No one else ever gave me that recognition. He was humble and not a blowhard, my kind of guy.”

 

 

 

Emanuel Steward left his mark on earth, not only as a multi-faceted personality in boxing, but he’s also remembered for his magnanimous charity work in Detroit, in which he helped youths in their pursuit of education.

Ciutat de Nova York (Novembre 7, 2018): Golden Boy Promotions and FITE announced today that the third encounter of UFC Hall of Famers Tito Ortiz (19-12-1 MMA) and Chuck Liddell (21-8 MMA), taking place on Saturday Nov 24th at The “Fabulous” Forum in Inglewood, Qualif., will stream live around the world on the FITE digital streaming network as part of the partnership deal with Golden Boy Promotions. Bell time for the PPV broadcast is 9:00pm ET / 6:00am PT.

The resumes of Liddell and Ortiz speak for themselves as both fought the most important fighters of their era. The two first fought in the UFC cage in 2004 after months of trash talk in which Liddell said he always dominated Ortiz in sparring during their past training sessions together. Liddell won the fight in spectacular fashion via KO, but the grudge was far from over. En 2006 the two faced off again with Ortiz vowing he would even the score. Ortiz fared much better in the second encounter but again succumbed to Liddell via referee stoppage TKO.

 

 

Tito Ortiz returns to the cage after a submission win over Chael Sonnen back in January 2017 to fight for redemption against his longtime rival Chuck Liddell. Liddell, coming out of retirement, is fighting to make it a perfect 3-0 over the “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” and to close the door on a feud that has spanned more than a decade. With a rivalry this intense and emotions still running high, this trilogy fight has fighters and fans from multiple generations excited to see the final chapter of one of the biggest rivalries of all time!

Sammartino, que diu amb orgull que no va faltar ni un dia de feina 40 any, ha decidit retirar-se, tot i que seguirà sent un aficionat a la boxa durant la resta de la seva vida. “Vaig començar a frenar a la meva edat, fent espectacles locals i potser tres o quatre lluites pel títol mundial a l'any, principalment WBO i IBF,” va comentar Sammartino. “Vaig tenir un combat dur amb la pneumònia el passat 5-6 mesos i això va dificultar la feina.”
La seva inducció al CBHOF és un final adequat i un gran homenatge a Sammartino i la seva carrera a la boxa. “Estic honrat de ser inclòs al Saló de la Fama de la Boxa de Connecticut,” ell va dir. “Aquesta és una bona manera d'acabar la meva carrera.”
