GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – July 23, 2021 – Super middleweight prospect Isaiah Steen remained unbeaten, registering a close unanimous decision victory over Kalvin Henderson on the 20th anniversary of ShoBox: The New Generation on SHOWTIME® Friday night in front of a raucous Cornhusker crowd at the Heartland Events Center.
 
It was the 258th ShoBox show and a night of celebration for the long-running and storied series that began in 2001 and has seen 84 ShoBox alum go on to win world titles. The night consisted of three hard-fought contests featuring young prospects matched tough, which has been a signature of the series for the past 20 years.
 
Cleveland’s 24-year-old Steen (16-0, 12 KOs) won the main event by just two rounds on one scorecard, 96-94, and 97-93 on two other cards against the 31-year-old Henderson (14-1-2,10 KOs) of Fayetteville, Ark., in the first 10-round fight of both fighters’ careers.
 
“It was a close decision because in the first few rounds I wasn’t going by the game plan and was just trying to get him out like I usually do in my fights,” said Steen, who is the half-brother of 2016 U.S. Olympian Charles Conwell, who cheered Steen on from ringside. “It would have looked good to have the knockout, but beating him like I did was more amazing.”
 
Henderson narrowly edged out Steen in two of the three punch-stat categories, out-jabbing him 20% (47-236) to 18% (50-281) and earning a 2% edge in total punches, 28% to 26%. Steen barley nudged past Henderson in the power-punching department, 42% to 41%, with Steen landing 58 of 138 and Henderson 59 of 144. 
 
“I thought it was a close fight and that I lost by a close decision,” Henderson said. “I lost my right hand in Round 4 because I tore my shoulder and from then on, I used the left to try and control the pace.”
 
Henderson added: “I could have cut the ring off a little bit more. I didn’t want to let him know I couldn’t use my right hand because I knew he would try and take advantage of it. My coach told me to try and fake the right hand like I was going to throw it, and then hit him with the left hand. We followed our game plan, and everything we wanted to do.”
 
Steen knows his future is bright and he wants to share the limelight with his brother on August 29 as Conwell is fighting on the undercard of a highly anticipated SHOWTIME PPV event in Cleveland.
 
“I want to get added to the undercard of my brother’s fight on the Jake Paul-Tyron Woodley card in my hometown,” he said. “I want to bring it back to Cleveland next month.”
 
In the co-feature pitting a pair of 22-year-olds, Shinard Bunch (15-1-1, 13 KOs) and Janelson Figueroa Bocachica (17-0-1, 11 KOs) fought to a controversial split draw in a 10-round welterweight bout. One judge scored the fight 97-93 in favor of Bunch, one 96-94 in favor of Figueroa Bocachica and the final judge 95-95.
 
Bunch of Trenton, N.J., and Figueroa Bocachica of Detroit were both close in punches thrown with 399 for Bunch and 390 for Figueroa Bocachica. Bunch used his jab throughout the fight, landing 68 of 217 and landed 30.8% of his power punches.
 
“Of course I thought I won the fight,” said Bunch. “I honestly feel like I won it. Even his coach said I won the fight. I landed the more powerful shots, even boxing-wise; sticking and moving. The only thing I could do better was get a knockout. I feel like I hurt him plenty of times. I don’t know what the judges were watching.”
 
Figueroa Bocachica said he thought he won the fight. “I felt like he didn’t land anything that hurt me and I applied the pressure. I didn’t agree with the judges, but I’m the fighter not the judge. I could have put pressure from beginning instead of the end. I could have used the jab more. I was being lazy with my right hand because I was going to knock him out. Those are things I need to learn.”
 
He added: “Oh yeah, there will be controversy after this. It comes with the sport.”
 
The telecast opener featured a highly competitive fight in a battle of unbeatens with Martino Jules (11-0-2, 2 KOs) scoring a unanimous win over ShoBox veteran Aram Avagyan (10-1-2, 4 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight affair. The judges scored the fight 77-74, 78-73 and 79-72 all in favor of Jules.
 
The 24-year-old southpaw Jules from Allentown, Pa., scored a key knockdown in the last 45 seconds of the eight-round fight. Following a solid counter left hand landed by Jules, Avagyan slipped, stumbling to his knees in what was ruled a knockdown by referee Mark Nelson.
 
“What a turn of events in the last minute of the fight!” said ShoBox blow-by-blow commentator Barry Tompkins immediately following the knockdown.
 
“He kept jumping right toward me, so I just kept listening to my corner and going with the left,” said Jules, who landed 85 of his 295 power punches to Avagyan’s 122 of 316. “As soon as he got caught with the left he was off-balance and the left leg slipped and that was it.”
 
Fighting under the Salita Promotions banner, the 30-year-old Avagyan originally from Yerevan, Armenia, and now residing in California, was fighting on ShoBox for the third time and facing his fourth consecutive unbeaten fighter.
 
Jules knew it was close entering the final round. “I think the knockdown really helped me secure the round,” he said. “Once he got knocked down he was rushing in to try and get the back, which helped me since I could control the pace a little bit more.”
 
International Boxing Hall of Famer Tompkins called the action from ringside with fellow Hall of Famer Al Bernstein and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer was Gordon Hall with Rich Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.
 
The event, which was promoted by Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotions in association with Holden Productions, Salita Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, brought together fighters from seven different boxing promotional and management teams.

Three-Fight Telecast Features Five Fighters with Undefeated Records

NEW YORK – July 2, 2021 – ShoBox: The New Generation celebrates its 20-year anniversary with a three-fight card headlined by two exciting undefeated super middleweight prospects as Kalvin Henderson takes on Isaiah Steen in a 10-round main event clash Friday, July 23 live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT) from the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island, Neb.

The popular series ShoBox debuted in Atlantic City on July 21, 2001 and has produced 84 fighters who later went on to win a world title. Just like it has for the past 20 years, the upcoming tripleheader will feature prospects matched tough with a combined record of 81-1-5, including five boxers who have yet to taste defeat at the professional level.

Henderson (14-0-1,10 KOs) matches up against knockout artist Steen (15-0, 12 KOs) in the first 10-rounder for both fighters. The co-feature pits ShoBox veteran Janelson Bocachica (17-0, 11 KOs) of Detroit against 21-year-old Shinard Bunch (15-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout. In a battle of unbeatens, Martino Jules (10-0-2, 2 KOs) faces Aram Avagyan (10-0-2, 4 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight affair.

“This is a milestone ShoBox event and we could not be more excited,” said Gordon Hall, who has served as the executive producer of ShoBox: The New Generation since its inception. “As we celebrate two decades of ShoBox on July 23, we will stay true to our ethos to match undefeated, developing prospects tough. In the main event, undefeated 168-pound prospects with decorated amateur pedigrees will seek a career-best win. The co-feature has the return of fast-rising Janelson Bocachica in a difficult style matchup against the power-punching Bunch, while the opener features a battle of unbeatens that could steal the show. ShoBox remains the sport’s ultimate proving ground for prospects and this event on July 23 is the perfect way to kick off our next decade.”

The event, which is promoted by Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotions in association with Holden Productions and Salita Promotions, brings together fighters from seven different boxing promotional and management teams.

Kalvin Henderson vs. Isaiah Steen – 10-round Super Middleweight Main Event

Henderson vs. Steen is a matchup that was originally scheduled for ShoBox in October, before Henderson withdrew during fight week with an illness.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Henderson currently resides and trains out of Fayetteville, Ark., where he was a six-time Arkansas state champion in the amateurs competing in 70 fights. He turned pro in 2016, winning his first 12 fights before fighting Genc Pllana to a draw in 2019. Henderson has prior experience at the Heartland Events Center, knocking out Justin Baesman at the venue in March.

Following high school, Henderson received a music scholarship from the University of Arkansas as a percussionist and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 2012. The 30-year-old Henderson is promoted by Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotions.

“Two undefeated guys coming in on the main event,” said Henderson, who is married with five children. “I know he has a good amateur pedigree and he throws good combinations. He is bringing it and I am bringing it. The third time’s a charm to finally make this fight happen. This is the next step in my career.  A lot of fighters have been on ShoBox and have gone on to amazing careers, and now it’s my turn to do the same.”

Like his half-brother, U.S. Olympian Charles Conwell, the 24-year-old Steen of Cleveland also had a successful amateur career with a record of 85-15. In his last fight in November, Steen stopped Colombia’s Juan De Angel with a fifth-round TKO. In February of 2020, Steen needed less than a round to stop Kenneth Council in Hammond, Ind. Steen is co-promoted by Holden and Lou DiBella and managed by David McWater of Split-T Management.

“I have been going from training camp to training camp,” Steen said. “I am going to mix it up, and out box him with a lot of jabs. Then when I see his weakness, I am going to get him out. Kalvin is a come-straight-forward fighter and he punches hard. I was supposed to fight him before, so this fight has been brewing for a while.”

Janelson Bocachica vs. Shinard Bunch – 10-round Welterweight Bout

A native of Puerto Rico and fighting out of Detroit, Mich., Bocachica is just 22 years old and already has five years of pro experience, including two appearances on ShoBox. This will be his third appearance on the series in nine months. He is coming off his best win to date, a majority decision win over previously unbeaten Mark Reyes, Jr. An aggressive, come-forward fighter, Bocachica began boxing at age eight, won four consecutive Ringside Championships (2011-14), the National PAL Championships and the 2015 Detroit Golden Gloves. He boasts an amateur record of 60-5 and beat Brandun Lee in the finals to win the 2014 U.S. Junior National Olympics. He is trained by his father, Nelson Figueroa. Bocachica is managed by McWater and co-promoted by King’s Promotions and Salita Promotions.

“This is what ShoBox is known for: matching up fighters for great fights,” Bocachica said. “Shinard Bunch is a step up in competition. He is from the same gym as Mark Reyes, and you saw what I did to him, On July 23, it will be much of the same. Fighting on SHOWTIME has helped with my profile. When I went to Puerto Rico, people knew who I was because of my previous experience on ShoBox. Being on the platform has brought me many new fans.”

Bunch is a Queens, N.Y.-native living and training in Trenton, N.J. Just 21-years-old, Bunch has been active with five fights in 2020 and five fights thus far in 2021. Bunch has more than 400 amateur fights and started boxing at age 7. He was rated as high as No. 3 in the nation at the 2016 Nationals. Currently riding a 13-fight winning streak, Bunch’s only pro loss came in 2019 in just his third fight, a unanimous loss to Paul Kroll. Bunch is managed by Russell Peltz.

“We are coming to work and make a statement,” Bunch said. “I really do not know too much about my opponent. I know he is a pressure fighter. I am not taking this fight lightly. This is a big fight, and we are going to box smart. This is a blessing to have an opportunity like this. Fighting on ShoBox is something that I have always dreamed of.”

Martino Jules vs. Aram Avagyan – 8-round Featherweight Bout

The 23-year-old southpaw Jules from Allentown, Pa., is coming off his best victory to date in an ESPN bubble fight last July, earning a majority-decision win over Aleem Jumakhonov. Jules is a 2015 Olympic Trials qualifier and had a 60-15 amateur record since turning pro in 2016 and slowly climbing up the featherweight rankings. Jules was scheduled to make his ShoBox debut in January, but his opponent fell ill the morning of his fight and the fight was called off.

“I am grateful for getting this fight,” said Jules, who is promoted by Kings Promotions and managed by Trifon Petrov. “This is something I have been waiting for a year now. I was supposed to fight on ShoBox before, but the fight fell out. I have been staying ready. My opponent is tough, and he comes ready to fight. He has a lot of merit to him, and that is pushing me to be better and I am excited to fight someone that will make me perform at my best.”

Fighting under the Salita Promotions banner, the 30-year-old Avagyan returns to ShoBox for the third time facing his fourth consecutive unbeaten fighter. In January, Avagyan and Panama’s Jose Nunez fought to a majority draw. Avagyan survived two early knockdowns in his debut against then-unbeaten Dagoberto Aguero to earn a majority decision in the last ShoBox telecast before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the sports world for several months in March 2020.

Born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia, and now residing in California, Avagyan is a decorated amateur with more than 300 fights. He captured two Bronze Medals at the European Championships and represented Armenia at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“I’m always hungry and want to fight and the fact that it will be on the 20-year anniversary of ShoBox is doubly motivating to put on a great show,” said Avagyan. “I’m gradually gaining shape and I have another month to show my best side to all boxing fans. I promise that I’m going to war on July 23. Don’t miss this event and the war of the warrior!”

Bethlehem, PA (November 18, 2018) —This past Friday night, Three-time Olympian Anvar Yunusov remained perfect by stopping Jose Salinas in the 7th round of their scheduled eight-round junior lightweight bout the headlined a nine-bout card at

The Sands Bethlehem Event Center.

 

 

 

The show was promoted by King’s Promotions.

 

 

 

Yunusov, who competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics for his native country Tajikistan, dominated the action, and finally broke Salinas down in the 7th frame.

 

 

 

With the win, Yunusov, who now resides in Philadelphia has a record of 6-0 with three knockouts.

 

 

 

Salinas of Las Cruces, New Mexico falls to 10-4-1.

 

 

 

“We are thrilled with Anvar’s performance.  Salinas had fought and defeated some credible opponents, and Anvar fought very well, and we are excited for what 2019 will hold for him,” said Marshall Kauffman of King’s Promotions.

 

 

 

In the co-feature, debuting Jeffrey Torres thrilled his hometown fans with a four-round unanimous decision over Steven Lopez in a bantamweight contest.

 

 

 

Torres of Bethlehem is 1-0.  Lopez of Philadelphia is 0-3.

 

 

 

Big heavyweight, Michael Coffie remained undefeated by stopping veteran Jamaal Woods.

 

 

 

Despite his record, Woods was game, but the 277 pound Coffie was too much and finally got his foe out of there at 2:50 in the 4th frame.

 

Coffie of Brooklyn is 6-0 with five knockouts.  Woods of Forest City, Arkansas is 18-44-7.

 

 

 

Joseph George took a six-round unanimous decision from Josue Obando in a light heavyweight bout.

 

 

 

George of Houston is now 8-0.  Obando of Mexico gave a good effort, but is now 16-25-1.

 

 

 

Christian Montano needed just 2:05 of the 1st round to take out Paul Holley in their scheduled six-round cruiserweight bout.

 

 

 

Montano scored three knockdowns, with the final coming from a hard body shot.

 

 

 

Montano of Houston is 8-0 with seven knockouts.  Holley falls to 6-2-1.

 

 

 

Alejandro Jimenez remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Desmond Moore in a battle of previously undefeated bantamweights.

 

 

 

Jimenez of New Hope, PA is 4-0.  Moore of Allentown, PA is 1-1-1.

 

 

 

Good looking bantamweight prospect Yeuri Andujar made it two straight stoppage victories with a 1st round stoppage over debuting Haziz Self of Philadelphia.

 

 

 

Andujar of Reading, PA is 2-0 with both wins coming early.

 

 

 

In a fight heavyweight contest featuring previously undefeated light heavyweight, Travis Toledo took an entertaining four-round majority decision over Kendall Cannida.

 

 

 

Both guys had their moments in the spirited brawl, but it was Toledo who came away with the victory to raise his mark to 3-0.  Cannida of Philadelphia drops to 2-1.

 

 

 

Vincent Floyd used two 1st round knockdowns to catapult himself to a four-round unanimous decision over Ricky Nuno in a welterweight clash.

 

 

 

Nuno made a great effort after the 1st round, but he dug himself too far of a hole to catch Floyd.

 

 

 

Floyd of Philadelphia is 4-5-1.  Nuno of Bethlehem is 2-2.

Bethlehem, PA (October 16, 2018) –Three-time Olympian and undefeated Anvar Yunusov takes on Joshua Davis in the eight-round super featherweight main event on Friday night, November 16th at The Sands Bethlehem Event Center.

 

 

 

The show is promoted by King’s Promotions.

 

 

 

Yunusov, who competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics for his native Tajikistan, is now 5-0 with two knockouts as a professional.

 

 

 

The 31 year-old fights out of Philadelphia, and turned professional in 2017.  He has registered his two knockouts in his last two outings with a 4th round stoppage over former contender Mike Oliver, and in his last bout when he destroyed Angel Monreal in one-round on September 14th in Philadelphia.

 

 

 

Davis of Washington, DC has a record of 11-3 with five knockouts.

 

 

 

The 27 year-old Davis is a seven-year professional, who has an impressive 7th round stoppage win over Carlos Rosario (7-1).  Davis is looking to get back into the wins column as he has dropped his last two outings.  In his last bout, Davis was stopped by undefeated Steven Ortiz on January 26th in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, PA (September 27, 2018) – This past Tuesday night, one of the most thrilling fights in recent memory, Anthony Mercado and Victor Vazquez waged an eight-round war for the ages that saw Mercado overcome a horrible cut over his right eye, a knockdown, and multiple instances where the fight could have been stopped to persevere and somehow comeback to win the fight.

 

 

 

The bout, for which some at ringside were saying it was the best fight in Pennsylvania, headlined a nine-bout card at The Sands Bethlehem Event Centerand was promoted by King’s Promotions.

Mercado was cut badly over his right in round two from an accidental headbutt.  In round three, Mercado landed a hard flurry on the ropes that forced Vazquez into the ropes, and referee Gary Rosato ruled that ropes kept Vazquez from being knocked down and administered an eight-count.  Vazquez fought back in round four and landed a couple of booming left hooks that rocked Mercado.

 

 

 

The continued to trade heavy shots at will, which led to some brutal exchanges with each guy landing some vicious power punches.  In round six, Vazquez landed some booming shots that had Mercado in trouble for much of the round,  One such flurry had Mercado seemingly a punch or two a way from getting stopped.  At the end of the round, Vazquez landed a flush left hook to the jaw that put Mercado plummeting to the canvas.  Mercado got up just as the bell rang, and he stumbled to the corner.  Vazquez went in for the finish in round seven, but Mercado, with blood now covering the whole right side of his face, was able to stabilize himself and work his way back into the fight.  Mercado made it all the way back, and was able to box his way to win the decisive eighth round.

 

 

 

Mercado, 140.8 lbs of Puerto Rico won by scores of 77-74 and 76-75 twice to raise his mark to 12-5.  Vazquez, 137.9 lbs of Yonkers, New York fought a great fight, but now falls to 10-5.

 

 

 

“I just thought of my dad.  I thought the fight was close to being stopped.  It was not easy, he is a good boxer.  I did not feel the cut.  I will have to talk to my team, but money talks for a rematch,” said Mercado

 

 

 

Vazquez said,”It could of went any way.  He is a good opponent.  He is tough.  We both have power.  We both came ready for the fighter.  Today we are both winners.”

 

 

 

In the co-feature, Raeese Aleem stopped Alcides Santiago at the end of round five of their scheduled six-round super bantamweight bout.

 

 

 

Aleem beat Santiago down, and scored a knockdown in round five.

 

 

 

Aleem, 121.9 lbs of Las Vegas, was making his first start under new trainer and former world champion Bones Adams, is now 12-0 with six knockouts.  Santiago, 122.6 lbs of Arecibo, PR is 6-3.

 

 

 

 

 

Joe Hanks stopped Terrance Marbra at 2:54 of round one of their six-round heavyweight bout.

 

 

 

Hanks scored one knockdown before the fight was halted.

 

 

 

Hanks, 253 lbs of Newark, NJ is 23-2 with 15 knockouts.  Marbra, 220 lbs of Saint Petersburg, FL is 9-7.

 

 

 

Erik Spring took a six-round unanimous decision over James Robinson in a rematch of junior middleweights.

 

 

 

Spring sealed up the fight with a knockdown late in round six, and came home home with the win by scores of 59-54 twice, and 58-55.

 

 

 

Spring, 153.3 lbs of Reading, PA is now 11-2-2.  Robinson, 152.9 lbs of York, PA is 5-12-5.

 

 

 

Colby Madison remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Nicoy Clarke in a heavyweight bout.

 

 

 

Clarke fought most of the bout with a cut over his left eye that was caused by a punch.

 

 

 

Madison, 241 lbs of Owings Mills, MD won by scores of 60-54 twice and 59-55, and is now 7-0-2.  Clarke, 211.5 lbs of Jersey City, NJ is 2-2.

 

 

 

Good looking prospect Money Powell IV won a six-round unanimous decision over Josue Obando in a middleweight contest.

Michael Coffie scored four knockdowns en-route to a 2nd round stoppage over Curtis Head in a scheduled six-round heavyweight bout.

 

 

 

Coffie registered the knockdowns evenly as he put Head on the canvas twice in each round, and the bout was stopped at 1:57.

 

 

 

Coffie, 270.5 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 4-0 with three knockouts.  Head, 257 lbs of Southfield, MI is 4-3.

 

 

 

 

 

Martino Jules thrilled his hometown fans by dropping Felix Sosa in round’s one and three, which paved the way for a four round unanimous decision in a contest featuring undefeated featherweights.

 

 

 

Jules, 124.5 lbs of nearby Allentown, PA won by tallies of 40-34 on all cards, and is now 5-0.  Sosa, 124.1 lbs of Jersey City, NJ is 1-1.

 

 

 

Kenny Robles dropped Corey Gulley in round two, and finished him at 2:13 of round three from a wicked flurry of punches in a junior welterweight fight scheduled for six-rounds.

Mercado of Arecibo, Puerto Rico has a record of 11-4 with nine knockouts.

 

 

 

The 24 year-old is a six-year professional, who won his first 10 bouts.  Mercado holds a 3rd round stoppage over previously undefeated Tyrone Crawley, Jr. (7-0) on March 2nd.  In his last bout, Mercado dropped an eight-round unanimous decision to undefeated Mykal Fox on May 11th in Philadelphia.

 

 

 

Vazquez of Yonkers, New York has a record of 10-4 with three knockouts.

 

 

 

The 22 year-old Vazquez is a four-year professional, and has built a reputation as being an upset specialist.

 

 

 

Vazquez has wins over Bievenido Diaz (2-0), Jerome Conquest (6-1), Ricardo Garcia (14-0) and David Gonzales (8-2-2).  In his last bout, Vazquez was stopped by Josue Vargas on April 21st in Brooklyn.

Bethlehem, PA (April 17, 2018) -This past Friday night at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center, junior lightweight O’Shaquie Foster got a career boosting win as he defeated Frank De Alba via eight-round majority decision in a crowd-thrilling fight.

 

 

 

 

The six-bout card was promoted by King’s Promotions.

 

 

 

 

Foster got off to an early lead, as he featured an accurate straight hand.  De Alba got back in the fight as he decided to stand toe-toe with Foster, and on many occasions, he gave as good or even better then he received.  Neither fighter took a backward step, which was much to the delight to the crowd that congregated at The Sands Bethlehem Event Center.

 

 

 

 

The furious action continued, De Alba began to leak some blood from his nose in the fifth frame.

 

 

 

 

Foster of Houston, Texas won his third bout in a row as he took two cards by scores of 79-73 and 78-74, while a 3rd card read even at 76-76.

 

 

 

 

Foster, 131.2 lbs of Houston, Texas is now 13-2.  De Alba, 130.1 lbs of Reading, PA is 22-3-2.

 

 

 

 

In the explosive co-feature, Luther Smith stopped Elvin Sanchez 55 seconds into the 2nd round of their scheduled six-round cruiserweight bout.

 

 

 

 

Sanchez struck in the 1st round when he dropped Smith with a left to the head.  In round two, Smith came back to send Sanchez to the canvas with a right hook.  Smith ended the fight when he landed a straight left that sent Sanchez to the canvas, and the fight was immediately stopped.

 

 

 

 

Smith, 199.1 lbs of Bowie, MD is 10-2 with 9 knockouts.  Sanchez, 198.7 lbs of Paterson NJ is 8-4-1.

 

 

 

 

Martino Jules remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Vincent Jennings in a featherweight bout.

 

 

 

 

Jules, 128 lbs of Allentown, PA won by scores of 40-36 and 39-37 twice to raise his unblemished mark to 4-0.  Jennings, 126.7 lbs of Grand Rapids, MI is 5-5.

 

 

 

 

 

James Robinson took a six-round majority decision from Greg Jackson in a junior middleweight bout.

In a battle of undefeated welterweights, Anthony Sonnier won a six-round unanimous decision over Jesus Perez.

 

 

 

 

In round three, Sonnier scored two knockdowns.  The 1st knockdown came from a flush right hand.  The 2nd knockdown came from a hard left.  In round five, Perez was bleeding from his nose.

 

 

 

 

Sonnier, 143.2 lbs of Seattle won by scores of 59-53 and 58-54 twice to raise his record to 4-0.  Perez, 142.7 lbs of Reading, PA is 3-1.

 

 

 

 

Craig Callaghan and Cesar Soriano Beruman battled to a six-round majority draw in a welterweight fight.

 

 

 

 

Despite bleeding from around both eyes, Beruman was able to get inside and land some solid punches, while Callaghan had success from the outside.

 

 

 

 

Scores were 58-56 for Callaghan, and 57-57 twice.

 

 

 

 

Callaghan, 152 lbs of Houston, Texas via Liverpool, ENG is 17-1-1.  Beruman, 151.6 lbs of Iztacaloc, MEX is 28-37-3,

Bethlehem, PA (April 11, 2018) –  Junior lightweight contender Frank De Alba feels that 2018 could be his year.  He first he must get past O’Shaquie Foster in the headline bout THIS FRIDAY NIGHT!! at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center.

 

 

 

The bout, which is scheduled for eight-rounds tops a 6-bout card that is promoted by King’s Promotions.

 

 

 

In the six-round co-feature pitting cruiserweights Luther Smith (9-2, 8 KOs) of Bowie, MD taking on Elvin Sanchez (8-3-1, 6 KOs) of Paterson, NJ.

 

 

 

De Alba of Reading, Pa. will be making his first start in over a year as bouts fell through due to opponents not making weight, and De Alba suffering a cut in training just days before his last scheduled in February.

 

 

 

De Alba has been working hard through all of his bad luck.

 

 

 

“My training has been great.  It’s been a long time.  I was scheduled for November and my opponent missed weight by 14 pounds.  Then in February, I got cut six days before the fight.  Through it all, I have been training.  I took a week off, and then I was right back in the gym, and for that, I don’t think I will have any ring rust.  I have been training for fights in the last year, it may say I haven’t fought, but I have been staying busy,” said De Alba.

 

 

 

In Foster, he is facing a tough fighter who hopes to resurrect his career after a couple of losses set-back the one-time touted prospect.

 

 

 

“Foster is a slick fighter.  I have seen him on film two or three times.  He is a good test, a risky fight, but this is what this sport is all about.  I need these fights to get to the next level.   I just have to take the fight to him.”

 

 

 

De Alba feels that a win on Friday night will not only get him his 6th consecutive win, but a significant fighter later in the year.

 

 

 

“Whatever a win does, it will lead to something better in my career.  Hopefully a regional title fight and a world ranking.”

 

 

 

Friday night will be the 5th start for De Alba at The Sands Bethlehem Event Center, and the 30 year-old is ready to put in a good performance for his fans.

 

 

 

“I love fighting there.  It is a close commute for my family and fans.  I expect there to be a nice crowd for me on Friday.  I want everybody to purchase tickets, and they can expect fireworks.”

6 undercard bouts have been added to the already announced eight-round super featherweight main event that will pit Frank De Alba (22-2-2, 9 KOs) of Reading, PA taking in O’Shaquie Foster (12-2, 8 KOs) of Houston, TX.

 

 

 

Also previously announced is the six-round co-feature pitting cruiserweights Luther Smith (9-2, 8 KOs) of Bowie, MD taking on Elvin Sanchez (8-3-1, 6 KOs) of Paterson, NJ.

The 30 year-old De Alba has a six-year professional who has wins over Andrew Bentley (1-0), Jose Bustos (8-2-3), Bernardo Gomez Uribe (16-3), Kiun Evans (12-2-1), De Alba has had some tough luck as he has had several fights fall through for different reasons.  This will be his 1st bout in just over a year as in his last bout where he won a eight-round unanimous decision over Ryan Kielczewski (26-2) on April 4th at The Sands Bethlehem Event Center.  De Alba has won five straight.

 

 

 

Foster, 24 years-old, was a highly decorated amateur standout.  Foster advanced to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials where he lost to unbeaten contender, Joseph “Jo-Jo” Diaz. Before that, Foster was a 2010 PAL National Champion, a five-time Ringside National Champion and two-time National Junior Golden Gloves Champion.

 

 

 

Foster is a six-year professional who won his first eight bouts.  Foster has wins over three undefeated fighters including Devin Parker, Lavisis Williams, and his last bout when he defeated Kaylen Alfred on January 20th in Houston.

 

 

 

Smith, 39, is a three-year professional, who has stoppage wins over two undefeated foes Mike Marshall and Darnell Pierce.

 

 

 

Smith is coming off a 4-round split decision loss to perennial spoiler Lamont Capers on November 30, 2017 in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

 

 

 

The 37 year-old Sanchez is a 10 year professional who has knockout wins over undefeated Venroy July (13-0-2) and in his last bout when he stopped Khalib Whitmore (6-1) on August 11, 2017 in Philadelphia.
