LONDRA (Maggio 19, 2017) – America’s youngest world champion, Gervonta Davis, and undefeated No. 1 contender Liam Walsh both tipped the scale at the 130-pound limit during Di venerdì official weigh-in at the 133-year-old Theatre Royal Stratford East for Sabato di IBF Junior Lightweight World Championship on SHOWTIME.

Di Sabato at the sold-out Copper Box Arena in London, the 22-year-old “Tank” Davis (17-0, 16 KO) will attempt to become the first American to successfully defend his title on British soil in nearly a decade. The 30-year-old Walsh (21-0, 14 KO) will aim to dethrone a man labeled by Davis promoter Floyd Mayweather as “the future of boxing” in the first defense of his IBF crown.

The referee for Davis vs. Walsh is Michael Alexander, and the judges are Howard Foster (Inghilterra), Robin Taylor (Stati Uniti) and Deon Dwarte (Sudafrica).

With fans chanting “Walsh is gonna get you” as Davis stepped on the scale, the Baltimore native narrowly missed the 130-pound limit by two ounces. Per IBF rules, Davis was given two hours to shed the extra ounces and successfully made weight approximately 90 minuti più tardi.

After the weigh-in, Walsh downplayed the tense stare down and words exchanged during the faceoff.

MAINE GETS ITS OWN VERSION OF MCGREGOR-MAYWEATHER WITH JUNE 17 SUPERFIGHT

PER IL RILASCIO IMMEDIATO: Lewiston, Maine (Maggio 19, 2017) – It was once rare for two athletes from different combat sports disciplines to compete against one another. In 1963, legendary catch wrestler and judo practitioner Gene Lebell took on journeyman boxer Milo Savage in a match credited as the grandfather of modern mixed-martial-arts (MMA). Dopo, in 1976, boxing world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali faced Japanese wrestler and martial artist Antonio Inoki in an exhibition bout in Tokyo broadcast globally on closed-circuit television, a precursor to pay-per-view.

 

Recent years have seen more and more MMA fighters and boxers transition between the two sports. For some time now, rumors have swirled over a potential meeting of boxing mega-star Floyd Mayweather and reigning UFC lightweight kingpin Conor McGregor. Should the bout happen, it will undoubtedly be one of the highest-ever grossing matchups financially. And while both sides work out the details for that contest, Maine fight fans will get their own superfight on Saturday, Giugno 17 in Lewiston when Russell “The Haitian Sensation” Lamour, Jr. (15-2, 7 KO – boxing record) incontra Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (14-9 – record di MMA) in a six-round middleweight boxing match. It will be the boxing headliner of a hybrid MMA and boxing event presented by New England Fights (NEF) at the venerable Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

 

It is not that boxers and MMA fighters have never met each other in Maine in the past. They do often in NEF, which promotes both sports. What makes this a “superfight” is the status of each athlete in the state. Infatti, Lamour and Boyington are to the current local fight scene what Mayweather and McGregor are to the global scene. They are both mega-stars in-state, each with his own army of loyal fans.

 

“With all the talk of McGregor versus Mayweather, it’s an interesting match,” said Lamour’s coach and head of the Portland Boxing Club Bob Russo. “One of the best middleweights in New England in boxing versus one of the best lightweights in New England in MMA . I was pleasantly surprised when we were called out by Boyington. We had been offered a few different opponents that we agreed to and I guess they had second thoughts. Then we got the call that this challenge was on the table. This is something that will create a real buzz among boxing and MMA fans.”

 

Lamour is the face of present-day professional boxing in Maine. He won more than 100 amateur bouts and is an eight-time regional Golden Gloves champion, a five-time New England regional champion and a Bronze Medalist in the 2009 USA Boxing championships among numerous other accomplishments. Lamour competed in the semi-pro World Series of Boxing where he was ranked number-one in the North American middleweight conference. Come professionista, Lamour has been outstanding. He captured the New England Middleweight Title in 2014. Lamour has competed on ESPN’s Venerdì Night Fights boxing series before a national audience.

 

“I will fight anyone that ends up in front of me,” said Lamour. “I respect the MMA fighters, they are all tough guys, but to challenge in the boxing ring is a major mistake. I’ll be in great shape and ready. He better be too!”

 

Bruce Boyington, un veterano degli Stati Uniti Marine Corps (USMC), is no stranger to the boxing ring. He won his professional boxing debut in 2014 su una scheda NEF. He captured the NEF MMA Pro Lightweight Title in 2014 and defended it successfully three times before relinquishing the belt to sign with the global World Series of Fighting (WSOF) promotion in 2016.

 

Since signing with WSOF, Boyington has fought on some of the largest stages the world has to offer, including Madison Square Garden in New York City on the undercard of an event broadcast nationally on NBC. He has traveled as far as Russia to fight for major international promotion Absolute Championship Berkut (ACB). With WSOF taking some time to regroup under new ownership as the “Professional Fighters League,” Boyington was looking to stay active while awaiting his next national bout. The opportunity to fight in front of his many hometown fans one more time was irresistible.

 

“Boxing is his game, but I’ve had 25 professional fights and over 100 Taekwondo fights in my time,” Detto Boyington. “I’m excited and honored to share the ring with the best boxing has to offer. The only thing I’m ever after is a challenge, and I have one in Russell. It’s exciting to compete back home where it all essentially began for me with NEF, so I thank Matt (Peterson, NEF co-owner) and Nick (DiSalvo, NEF co-owner) for the opportunity and to Russell – let’s dance baby!”

Danbury, CT (Maggio 19, 2017) – Rising Junior Welterweight Cristobal ‘Bazooka’ Marrero (4-0, 2KO, new London, CT) has bolstered his camp by hiring A.J. Galante as his manager.

In addition to Marrero, Galante currently manages Omar ‘The Beast’ Bordoy (1-0, Danbury, CT) and is an adviser to Frank ‘Notorious’ Galarza (17-2-2, 11KO, Brooklyn, NY). He notably managed the career of Delvin Rodriguez (29-4-4, 16KO, Danbury, CT) from his fight of the year against Pawel Wolak in 2011, to his HBO Main Event bout against Miguel Cotto in 2013.

Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and Women’s NABF Middleweight Champion, Claressa “T-Rex” Shields had a very special visitor at her gym yesterday, none other than all-time Michigan great Thomas “Hitman” Hearns.
Hearns, from Detroit, is the 1980 e 1984 The Ring Magazine “Fighter of the Year” and the first boxer in history to win world titles in five weight divisions: welter, light middleweight, peso medio, super middleweight and light heavyweight.
22-Shields anno-vecchio (2-0, 1 KO) of Flint, is currently preparing for her eight-round main event against Mery Rancier (7-8-3, 5 KO) di Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for the WBC Silver Super Middleweight Championship at Salita Promotions’ “Detroit Brawl” su Venerdì, Giugno 16, 2017 at the Masonic Temple in Detroit.

It means a lot to be the latest big-name fighter to come from Michigan. I’m glad Tommy Hearns chose to come here and it does feel like a passing of the torch. He is very supportive and it feels great to be respected by such a great world champion.”
Shields says her training is going extremely well for her third professional and second championship fight.
“Training so far has been going really good. Siamo 29 days out of the fight and I’m in the best shape of my life. I trained hard for my six-rounder and that only went four rounds and I feel like I’m still in shape from that. Now I’m getting ready for eight rounds and I feel great. I’m fighting at 168 pounds and I’m at 168 proprio adesso. I haven’t been having weight problems and I’m eating right and running every day.”
Shields promoter, Dmitriy Salita, says Hearns indicated he was very impressed with Shields’ gym work.
“Claressa is the next boxing superstar from the state of Michigan,” lui ha detto. “It’s a very special passing of the torch from such a living legend who lives in Detroit as Tommy Hearns. Sig. We are witnessing something very special here and it’s very ironic that it’s all taking place close to Detroit, which is fighting back for its own recognition again as one of Americas Greatest cities.”

LONDRA (Maggio 18, 2017) – IBF Junior Lightweight World Champion Gervonta Davis, imbattuto No. 1 contender Liam Walsh and promoter Floyd Mayweather got into a jarring session during Giovedi di final press conference at Landmark Hotel in London just two days before Sabato di world title clash on SHOWTIME from Copper Box Arena.

Nel main event, Gary Russell Jr. will make his second featherweight title defense and long-awaited homecoming against mandatory challenger Oscar Escandon live from MGM National Harbor just outside of Washington, D.C.

“I don’t think I can put it into words what it would mean to win the title. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little child. The feeling, the emotion, I can’t put it into words. This is the biggest night of my life.

 

“There are definitely flaws in his game and they’re there for me to exploit. I plan to take advantage of his mistakes. Quando ero 22, there were definitely mistakes I made that I wouldn’t make now. So maybe it’s the perfect time to fight him.

Victory Prospects Continue on the Fast Track – Ennis & Sanchez Score Wins

KENSINGTON, MARYLAND – Maggio 17, 2017 – Victory Boxing Promotions is keeping with its promise to keep its top prospects busy, con Jaron “Stivali” Ennis (11-0, 9KO) e Carlos “Il Tiburon” Sanchez (13-0, 12KO) stepping into the ring in Virginia and Mexico over the weekend.

Ennis’ fine, which was scheduled for six rounds, was the fourth this year for the highly-touted prospect. He faced journeyman Eduardo Flores (25-27-3, 15KO), stopping him in the fourth round. The fight was a learning experience for Ennis, who has faced increasingly more experienced competition in his last three fights. Flores has bouts with Egis Kavaliauskas, Brad Solomon, Kermit Cintron under his belt, and gave boxing fans in attendance at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, Virginia a good show before having the fight stopped by the referee at 1:57 of the fourth round due to an accumulation of unanswered punches. Ennis wasted no time in returning to the gym, where he trains with his father, “Bozy” Ennis, to prepare for his next bout, June 10th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It is the first of four bouts already scheduled into the third quarter of 2017. The welterweight sensation has stayed busy, racking up eleven wins in thirteen months.

“This is what we’ve planned for Victory Boxing’s prospects,” said Victory Boxing Promoter Chris Middendorf. “We want to keep them busy and keep them learning. Boots is a special talent, and we want to get him in the ring and in front of his fans as much as possible.”

Carlos “Il Tiburon” Sanchez returned to his hometown of San Felipe, Mexico for the first time since his January 2016 debutto professionale, facing Ivan “Tigre” Chevelas, un veterano di 33 combattimenti. Scheduled for six rounds, the fight ended in the fourth, with Carlos dropping Chevelas twice en route to landing a barrage of punches, which prompted the referee to wave off the fight. Sanchez has also been busy, racking up thirteen wins in just 19 mesi.
