Mattice Takes on Zhora Hamazaryan in co-feature bout of ShoBox: The New Generation Tripleheader on Friday, July 20th from the WinnaVegas Casino Resort on Sloan, Iowa

Cleveland, Ohio (July 18, 2018) – Undefeated lightweight Thomas Mattice (12-0, 10 KOs) is looking to make a strong impression as he takes on fellow undefeated Zhora Hamazaryan (9-0, 6 KOs) in the eight-round co-feature bout of a ShoBox: The New Generation tripleheader this Friday, July 20 live on SHOWTIME® at 10 p.m. ET/PT from the WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa.

 

 

 

In the main event, undefeated welterweights will tangle as Jaron Ennis squares off against Armando Alvarez in a 10-round bout.

Mattice, who made his ShoBox debut onFebruary 2nd with an exciting 7th round stoppage over Rolando Chinea in the same venue that Friday’s bout will take place at, will be looking for a more complete performance against the undefeated Hamazaryan.

 

 

 

‘This camp is going smooth,” Mattice said. “This is a little easier being that I have already gone through a camp and all the things that go on with being on national television. It was an inspiring opportunity, and a dream come true to fight on this platform, and now I will be more focused.”

 

 

 

While not much on Hamazaryan is out there for scouting purposes, Mattice has seen what he can, and will be ready for the undefeated fighter from Armenia.

 

 

 

“He is a slick guy,” Mattice said. “I have seen a couple of rounds on him.  He has decent skills, and I look forward to a good fight.  My job is to defeat him and get the win.”

 

 

 

Mattice isn’t looking past Hamazaryan, and he knows he needs to be victorious for his career to get to the next level.

 

 

 

“I have to win this fight, and then I can see where I can go from there. I just want everybody to tune into ShoBox. I want to thank my manager Chances Aurelius, my promoter GH3 Promotions, and Zhora for taking the challenge. It will be a great fight.”

Sims Takes on Montana Love in opening bout of ShoBox: The New Generation Tripleheader on Friday, July 20th from the WinnaVegas Casino Resort on Sloan, Iowa

Chicago (July 17, 2018) – Junior welterweight Kenneth Sims, Jr. (12-1, 4 KOs) has been hunkering down in training camp in Chicago for his showdown with undefeated Montana Love (11-0, 5 KOs) in an eight-round bout that will be part of a ShoBox: The New Generation tripleheader on Friday, July 20 live on SHOWTIME® at 10 p.m. ET/PT 

 

 

 

In the main event, undefeated welterweights will tangle as Jaron Ennis (20-0, 18 KOs) squares off against Armando Alvarez (18-0, 12 KOs) in the 10-round main event from WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa.

Sims, who was a former National Amateur champion, has been off since suffering his only professional blemish, when he dropped a majority decision to Rolando Chinea, and subsequently had elbow surgery. He is eager to get back in the ring, and prove he’s one of the best prospects in the 140-pound division.

 

 

 

“Everything is going great,” Sims said. “I am feeling better than ever. I have been working with a strength and conditioning coach for the first time in my career, and I can feel the difference.”

 

 

In Love, he is facing an undefeated fighter, who made an impression in his previous ShoBox appearance on Feb. 2 when he won a majority decision over Samuel Teah on short notice.

 

 

 

“Love is a good fighter,” Sims said. “We fought when we were kids. We were about 15 years-old. I won that fight, but that does not mean anything as we head into this fight.”

 

 

 

Sims has extra motivation, as he feels that in the loss to Chinea, he was not at his best physically, and he vows to put on a great performance.

 

 

 

“I am super motivated. The last fight upped my motivation. It’s amazing, to see some of the people who have rooted for me in the past are now saying negative stuff about me. A win will get me back on track. I have been sparring with Regis Prograis, and that has lifted my game up even more.”

Undefeated Lightweight battles Thomas Mattice on ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday, July 20th at The WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa
     

 

 

PHILADELPHIA, Penn. / ORANGE, Calif. (July 16, 2018) – Undefeated lightweight Zhora Hamazaryan (9-0, 6 KOs) has been preparing for his battle with fellow undefeated Thomas Mattice that will be part of a ShoBox: the New Generation tripleheader that will take place onFriday, July 20th at The WinnaVegas Casino Hotel in Sloan, Iowa.

 

 

 

The broadcast on SHOWTIME® will begin at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

 

 

 

“Training has been very good so far,” said the 22 year-old Hamazaryan, originally from Gyumri, Armenia, and is now training out of Los Angeles. “I am excited and happy to show my talents on American Television.”

 

 

Hamazaryan will be making his second start on American soil, and he has not scouted his undefeated foe.

 

 

 

“I do not know much about Mattice,” said Hamazaryan, who is trained by former lightweight pro Jerry Rosenberg. “I prefer to not look at any tape of my opponents. I look at this as just another fight. I want to get in there, win the fight, take care of business, and move on to the next one.”

 

 

 

Hamazaryan looks to make a big splash, and become a big star in The United States.

 

 

 

“I am going to get this fight out of the way, and on to bigger fights here in the States.”

Three-Fight Telecast Features Six Fighters With A Combined Record of 82-1, Including Five Unbeaten Boxers

 

 

NEW YORK (June 25, 2018) – A battle of unbeaten welterweight prospects will headline a ShoBox: The New Generation tripleheader on Friday, July 20 live on SHOWTIME® at 10 p.m. ET/PT when Jaron Ennis squares off against Armando Alvarez in the 10-round main event from WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa.

 

 

 

Philadelphia’s Ennis (20-0, 18 KOs) has knocked out 10 consecutive opponents and was the 2015 National Golden Gloves Champion before turning professional in 2016.  The 20-year-old former amateur standout will face his first undefeated opponent in Alvarez (18-0, 12 KOs), a native of the Florida Keys who has knocked out six of his last seven opponents.

 

 

 

The three-fight telecast features six prospects with a combined record of 82-1, with all six fighters facing what is likely the toughest tests of their careers.

JARON ENNIS vs. ARMANDO ALVAREZ – 10-Round Welterweight Bout

Ennis will debut on ShoBox following a statement second round knockout of former junior welterweight contender Mike Arnaoutis earlier this month, his 10th consecutive KO victory.  The Philadelphia native had a standout amateur career, notching an impressive record of 58-3 and winning the 2015 National Golden Gloves tournament.  Ennis, who was ranked No. 1 as an amateur at 141 pounds, narrowly missed the opportunity to represent the U.S. in the 2016 Olympics after losing a box-off to Gary Antuanne Russell at the Olympic Trials.

 

 

 

“This is the opportunity I have been waiting for,” Ennis said. “I can’t wait to show the world my talent.”

 

 

 

Just 20 years old, Ennis currently trains under his father Derek “Bozy” Ennis Sr., who also trained his other sons Derek Jr. and Farah.  The 5-foot-10 Ennis will be the third brother to appear on ShoBox; Derek Jr. appeared on the series in 2007, and Farah faced Badou Jack on the series in 2013.

 

 

 

“A win on this platform would mean everything,” Ennis continued. “From here on out, I want to fight only the big names in the division.  I feel grateful for this opportunity to show the world my talents and skills.  It’s great to follow in my brother’s footsteps, and I am ready to take the Ennis last name to the next level.”

 

 

 

The 28-year-old Alvarez turned professional in 2014 and has gradually increased his level of opposition.  Alvarez, who now lives in Key West, compiled a 26-4 amateur record and won the Florida State Championship in 2013.  His headlining fight with Ennis will be his second fight of 2018 and by far his toughest test to date.

 

 

 

“This is the biggest opportunity I have ever received,” Alvarez said. “This is it.  It’s on.  Ennis is a great young fighter, but I think he has stepped out of his league.  He is just a kid.  The world will find out who Armando Alvarez is on July 20.”

 

 

 

THOMAS MATTICE vs. ZHORA HAMAZARYAN – Eight-Round Lightweight Bout

A 27-year-old from Cleveland, Mattice turned pro in 2014 and had an amateur record of 72-18. He was a three-time Ohio State Golden Gloves Champion and bronze medal winner in the USA National Tournament in 2014.

 

 

 

Mattice will be making his second ShoBox appearance following a strong debut Feb. 2, when the undefeated lightweight rallied from behind to score a seventh round TKO of ShoBox veteran Rolando Chinea.  Mattice has recorded five straight KOs and nine overall in 11 professional fights.

 

 

 

“I am excited for the opportunity to showcase my talent again on ShoBox,” Mattice said.  “I’m going to go out there and do what I did before.  I’m going to get a win, hopefully in knockout fashion. This guy (Hamazaryan) doesn’t know what he’s getting himself into.”

 

 

 

Undefeated lightweight prospect Hamazaryan, who signed with Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing in February, is originally from Armenia but fights out of Los Angeles.  Part of a long line of Armenian fighters who have fought in the U.S., Hamazaryan won his U.S. debut on Feb. 16, when he scored a unanimous decision win over the previously unbeaten Sergio Ramirez. Prior to his win against Ramirez, all of Hamazaryan’s victories were earned in Russia.

 

 

 

The 22-year-old was considered the No. 1 fighter in Armenia after an amateur career that spanned over 200 fights. Hamazaryan turned professional in 2015, turning down an opportunity to fight for the Armenian Olympic Team in 2016.

 

 

 

“This fight is very important for me, and I am very excited to be fighting on national television in America,” Hamazaryan said.  “I know [Mattice] is undefeated but I normally don’t look at my opponent.  I’m just looking to put on a great performance and make a statement for fans in the U.S.”

 

 

 

MONTANA LOVE vs. KENNETH SIMS JR. – Eight-Round Super Lightweight Bout

Cleveland native Love was an accomplished amateur who compiled a 174-13 record and won a bronze medal at the 2012 National Golden Gloves Championships.  The 22-year-old recently sparred with Adrien Broner, and served as head sparring partner for Robert Easter Jr. before his lightweight title defense against Javier Fortuna on Jan. 20.

 

 

 

Love has won two consecutive bouts against lesser opposition since defeating Samuel Teah in his ShoBox debut on Feb. 2.

 

 

 

“I am excited and happy to be back,” Love said. “I want to put on another great performance.  Sims and I grew up as amateurs together.  He’s a good fighter, but I am hungry and want to keep rolling. I can’t let anything get in my way.”

 

 

 

Chicago native Sims makes his return to ShoBox just over a year after suffering the first loss of his career against Rolando Chinea via close majority decision in what was his toughest test to date.  The 24-year-old Sims, who has sparred with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, was a 2013 U.S. National Amateur Champion and a 2012 Olympic Trials semifinalist.

 

 

 

“I am happy to be back fighting after having surgery on my elbow that had been bothering me for the last year and a half,” Sims said.  “This is my chance to prove that I’m back and the loss on ShoBox was a fluke.  I remember Love from the amateurs and I know I have what it takes to beat him.”

Philadelphia, Penn. (May 14, 2018)–This past Friday night, junior welterweight Mykal Fox remained perfect by winning a eight-round unanimous decision over Anthony Mercado.

 

 

The bout headlined an eight-fight card at SugarHouse Casino, and was promoted by King’s Promotions.

 

 

Fox of Forestville, Maryland controlled the action by using his long reach that set up combination punching.  The 22 year-old was solid throughout, and cruised home to the victory by scores of 79-73 twice and 78-74.

 

 

Fox is now 17-0,  Mercado of Camuy, Puerto Rico is 11-4.

 

 

“The Fighting Ring Announcer” Alex Barbosa came back after a nearly two-year layoff to win a four-round unanimous decision over Sergio Aguilar in a super bantamweight bout.

 

Barbosa of Philadelphia won by scores of 40-36 and 39-37 twice to raise his mark to 6-3-1.  Aguilar of Homestead, Florida is 2-8.

 


 

Romuel Cruz bloodied the nose of Bryann Perez on his way to a four-round unanimous decision in a super bantamweight bout.

 

Cruz of Philadelphia won by scores of 40-36 twice and 39-37 to stay undefeated at 2-0.  Perez of Carolina, Puerto Rico falls to 2-10-1.

 


New King’s Promotions signee, Anvar Yusunov shook of a flash knockdown to win a four-round unanimous decision over Deo Kizito in a super featherweight bout.

 

 

In round three, Kizito landed a straight left that made Yusunov’s glove hit the canvas.  It was Yusunov’s power shots that bloodied the nose of Kizito, and was the difference in the fight.

 

 

Yusunov, who is a three-time Olympian from Tajikistan won by scores of 40-36, 39-37 and 38-37 to improve to 2-0.  Kizito of Dubai, United Arab Emirates is 3-2.

 

 

Jerrod Miner and Desmond Moore battled to a four-round split draw in a bantamweight contest.

 

 

Each fighter won a scorecard 39-37 and a third card was even at 38-38.

 

 

Miner of Philadelphia is 1-1-2.  Moore of Bethlehem, PA is 1-0-1.

 

In the fight of the night, Joshafat Ortiz got off the deck in round one, to come back to stop Jordan Peters in round two of their scheduled four-round super featherweight bout.

 

 

Peters dropped Ortiz in the first frame with a vicious right hand.  Ortiz was not only able to shake that off, but come back and land a booming right hand that dropped Peters in next frame.  Peters got up, but ate a huge combination, and the fight was stopped at 2:13.

 

 

Ortiz of Reading, PA is 4-0 with 2 knockouts.  Peters of Washington, DC is 2-2-1.

 

Michael Coffie remained undefeated by stopping Lamar Lewis in the first round of their scheduled four round heavyweight bout.

 

 

Coffie landed a big combination to the top of the head that sent Lewis down, and the fight was stopped 75 seconds into the fight.

 

 

Coffie of Brooklyn is 3-0 with 2 knockouts.  Lewis of Conway, Arkansas is 0-2.

 

 

 

Joel Flores of Christopher Burgos fought to a spirited four-round majority draw in a junior lightweight bout.

 

 

Flores of Passaic, New Jersey won a card 39-37, but that was overruled by two 38-38 cards.

 

 

Flores is 0-0-2.  Burgos of Philadelphia is 0-2-1.

Philadelphia, Penn. (May 8, 2018)–This Friday night, undefeated junior welterweight Mykal Fox takes the next step towards a big fight when he takes on Anthony Mercado in the main event of nine bout card at SugarHouse Casino.

 

 

 

The show is promoted by King’s Promotions.

 

 

 

Fox (16-0, 4 KOs) of Forrestvile, Maryland continues his upward climb when he takes on that knockout artist from Puerto Rico.

 

 

 

“I have had a great camp.  I had tremendous sparring with (Former 2-time world champion) Kermit Cintron & undefeated Greg Outlaw.  I have been getting better with each day,” said the 22 year-old Fox.

 

 

 

In Mercado, Fox is facing a fighter who is coming off his career best result, when he stopped previously undefeated Tyrone Crawley at the same venue on March 2nd

 

 

 

“Mercado is 5’11”, and he has been talking a lot on social media that he is ready for war.  I saw his fight with Clarence Booth and his fight with Crawley.  He likes to come forward, and I will be ready for that on Friday.  Everyone knows that I can adapt to any style.”

 

 

 

This will be Mykal’s first fight in the “Fighting City” of Philadelphia, and Fox would like to indoctrinate himself to the enthusiastic fight crowd.

 

 

 

“I was supposed to fight in Philadelphia in September, but that card was changed.  I am super excited to fight there.  I want to impress.  They are a knowledgeable fight crowd.”

 

 

 

“I am focused on Mercado.  I don’t train for events, I train for opportunities.  I just want to thank everyone who supports me.  I don’t think anyone should miss this.”

 

 

 

In the six-round co-feature, Anvar Yunusov (1-0) of Philadelphia will take on Deo Kizito(3-1, 2 KOs) of Washington, DC in a featherweight bout.

Busy Spring for GH3 Promotions fighters

Nutley, NJ (March 27, 2018)–Starting this Friday, GH3 Promotions will be active as eight of the Promotional outfit’s fighters will be in action over the next six weeks.
Friday night at the Fillmore in Philadelphia, undefeated super middleweight Ronald Ellis(14-0-2, 10 KOs) will take on upset specialist Taneal Goyco (9-10-1, 4 KOs) in a bout scheduled for six rounds.
On the same card, undefeated super welterweight Joey Alday, Jr (6-0, 6 KOs) will battle Michael Crain (1-1) in a four round bout.
On April 12th in Chicago, Kenneth Sims, Jr. (12-1, 4 KOs) will be making his 1st start since his lone defeat when he returns to action in a six-round junior welterweight bout.
On April 21st in Paramus, New Jersey, heavyweight Ronnie Hines will make his professional debut while lightweight Joel Flores, Jr. (0-0-1) will see action in four-round bouts
May 4th will see Alday come back to Philadelphia, and appearing on the same card will be undefeated super bantamweight Malik Jackson (2-0, 2 KOs)
Finally on May 11th, super bantamweight contender Adam Lopez (16-2-2, 8 KOs) will fight in an eight-round bout while undefeated lightweight Thomas Mattice (11-0, 9 KOs) will see action in a six-round bout.

Unbeaten Prospects Montana Love and Thomas Mattice Win In Co-Featured Bouts

SLOAN, IOWA (Feb. 3, 2018) – Undefeated super middleweight prospects Ronald Ellis and Junior Younan fought to a split draw in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation Friday on SHOWTIME from WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa.

While Ellis was the ShoBox veteran with the stronger resume, Younan entered the fight as a highly touted prospect who had never been tested.  He faced his first test on Friday in what was the first scheduled 10-round bout for both fighters.

The fight was fought in flurries, with Younan scoring from the outside and Ellis the aggressor.  Except for the eighth round where Brooklyn’s Younan displayed his best work, Ellis seemed to push the action and win the second half of the fight.  Ellis had a slight edge in power punch percentage and total punches, but Younan was slightly more accurate.  The fighters were even with 96 total connects entering the 10th round, but Ellis (14-0-2, 10 KOs) won the 10th on all three judges’ scorecards by out-landing Younan 21-9.

The 10-round fight was scored 96-94 Ellis, 96-94 Younan, and 95-95.

“I thought I pulled it out.  I closed the show at the end,” said Ellis, of Lynn, Mass.  “I was pressuring him and the fans know I won.  In the eighth, he landed a couple of shots but he wasted his energy.  As you saw, he didn’t do anything the rest of that round, and after that round he had nothing left.

“He was running from the start, so I knew I could land shots on him anytime.  My only regret is I wish that I got him out of there. It’s all knockouts from here on out.  I would definitely fight him again, but I’ll do whatever my promoter lines up for me.”

After the fight, an emotional Younan (13-0-1, 9 KOs) pleaded his case for a rematch.

“I thought I won the fight, I thought [Ellis] won maybe three rounds,” Younan said.  “My best round was the eighth round – I had him in the corner and I really thought they were going to end the fight then.  I was surprised they didn’t stop the fight.

“I can improve a little bit, I feel I can finish stronger. I’ve only had one eight-round fight before this so this was a big step up for me.  I’m growing and learning every fight.

“I’m heartbroken right now.  I wanted to win that fight.  I want him in a rematch.  I know I would win.  I know what to do and what not to do.”

Undefeated lightweight Thomas Mattice rallied from behind to score a seventh round TKO of ShoBox veteran Rolando Chinea in the telecast’s co-feature.

Chinea pushed the action as expected from the opening bell, throwing 90 punches in the first round to set a blistering pace for the scheduled eight-round fight.  Chinea, who entered having beaten three previously undefeated fighters in his last four bouts, cut the ring off and pressed forward, keeping Mattice largely against the ropes.  Mattice did his best work in the center of the ring, but the undefeated Cleveland native was unable to keep the fight from being contested against the ropes.

Down 59-55 entering the seventh, Mattice (11-0, 9 KOs) caught Chinea with a huge right to the chin and, sensing Chinea was hurt, unloaded with a series of combos to the head.  With Chinea seemingly out on his feet and falling sideways to the canvas, referee Adam Pollack stepped in to stop the fight at 1:31 of the seventh.

“It was a rough fight,” Mattice said.  “I felt like I was behind and my corner told me I needed a knockout.  He buzzed me a few times.  I caught him in the seventh and he wobbled.  At first I was trying for one shot, then I remembered to start using the one-two.  Then I landed a body shot, then a hook, and we got what we came here for, which was a knockout.”

Chinea (15-2-1, 6 KOs) was active, throwing an impressive 678 punches over seven-and-a-half rounds, compared to 414 for Mattice.  But while he was aggressive and effective on the inside, his neglect of defense is what ultimately hurt him.

“I think I did well pressuring him and sticking to my game plane,” Chinea said.  “I just got carried away and got caught with the right shot and, unfortunately, it ended the way it ended.

“I’m a little disappointed it ended the way it did, but that’s boxing and a lot of things can happen in the sport and that’s just the way it went.”

In the opening bout of the three-fight telecast, super lightweight prospect Montana Love kept his unblemished record intact with a majority decision over Sam Teah, scored 78-74, 78-74, 76-76.

The southpaw Love (9-0, 4 KOs) pressed the action from the start, utilizing superior speed and polished footwork to dictate the pace.  Cleveland’s Love, who took the fight on just four days’ notice, was seemingly talking trash during rounds, telling Teah what was coming next.  But even with the advance warning, Teah was unable to get inside or land anything of consequence.  Teah (12-2-1, 5 KOs) seemed to come alive in the sixth but it was too little, too late for the Philadelphia fighter.

“I just kept boxing and pushing him back,” Love said.  “I hurt three of my knuckles in my left hand in about the third round.  I’m not sure if they’re fractured or not, but if I hadn’t hurt them I would have ended that fight early.

“I felt strong.  I just came from a great camp with Robert Easter, which I think helped in this fight tonight. Sparring with Robert and Adrien [Broner], I’ve learned a lot from those guys.

“I give my overall performance a B or a C+.  I think I could have done a lot more.”

Teah made no excuses about facing a last-minute opponent.

“He was a crafty southpaw.  I knew he was slick, but he was quicker than I expected,” Teah said.  “I would ball up to try to come inside and he was sharp with his right hook.  Fighting guys on short-notice is the way I expect it.  That’s the sport.  I was preparing for a southpaw and I got a southpaw.  No excuses.”

Undefeated Mattice Battles Lightweight Rolando Chinea This Friday On ShoBox: The New Generation

Mattice is letting his team do all the scouting, while he focuses on his own business of training and getting ready for the opportunity ahead of him on Friday.
“I am just letting my team handle the scouting of Chinea.  We drew up a gameplan based on that, and now I am just going to go in there and execute it.”

Love Replaces Injured Wellington Romero In Telecast Opener At 10 p.m. ET/PT From WinnaVegas Casino Resort In Sloan, Iowa
NEW YORK (Jan. 30, 2018) – Undefeated super lightweight Montana Love will face streaking Philadelphia prospect Sam Teah in the opening bout of ShoBox: The New Generation this Friday, Feb. 2, live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT) from WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa.

Cleveland native Love, who was originally scheduled to fight on a non-televised undercard bout on Feb. 2, replaces Wellington Romero, who was forced to withdraw on Monday with a back injury.
Teah (12-1-1, 5 KOs) vs. Love (8-0, 4 KOs), is an eight-round super lightweight matchup that will serve as the opening bout of what is now a three-fight ShoBox telecast.
In Friday’s main event, undefeated 168-pound prospects Ronald Ellis (14-0-1, 10 KOs) and Junior Younan (13-0, 9 KOs) will clash in a 10-round super middleweight bout.  In the co-feature, Thomas Mattice (10-0, 8 KOs) will face two-time ShoBox winner Rolando Chinea (15-1-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight matchup.
NOTE: A previously announced matchup between Devin Haney and Harmonito Dela Torre was pulled from the ShoBox telecast after the Filipino Dela Torre encountered visa issues.
Love was an accomplished amateur who compiled a 174-13 record and won a bronze medal at the 2012 National Golden Gloves Championships.  The 22-year-old southpaw recently sparred with Adrien Broner and served as head sparring partner for Robert Easter Jr. as the IBF Lightweight World Champion prepared for his title defense against Javier Fortuna on Jan. 20.
Teah, of Philadelphia by way of Liberia, has won five in a row and owns a 2015 ShoBox victory over previously undefeated O’Shaquie Foster.
