Perez wins New Jersey State Super Middleweight Title with decision over Aikens in Atlantic City Classic

ATLANTIC CITY (September 10, 2018)–DeCarlo Perez and Antowyan Aikens lived up to the pre-fight hype of a knockdown- dragout war that eventually saw Perez eek out an eight-round unanimous decision on  Saturday night at The Bourbon Room inside the Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City.

The bout between Atlantic City rivals, which gave Perez the New Jersey State Super Middleweight title, headlined an terrific 10-bout card promoted by Rising Star Promotions.

The fight saw Perez push the action early as he buckled Aikens into the ropes in the 2nd round. Not only did Aikens stem the tide, but came back emphatically, as he landed a perfect right that sent Perez to the canvas.

Now with Aikens seemingly in control. Perez came back the very next round to land a perfect left hook that put Aikens on the canvas. It looked like Perez would be able to end the fight, but Aikens came back and stood toe-to-tow with Perez, and gave as good he received.

With a cut over his left eye, Perez was able to box his way down the stretch of the fight, which thrilled the capacity crowd and the Showboat Hotel.

Perez of Atlantic City won by scores of 77-72, 76-74 and 75-74 to improve to 17-6-1.  Aikens of Atlantic City is 13-5-1.

“Antowyan surprised me on how he was able to be so consistent.  When he did knock me down, I was able to stay calm, and keep my composure.  I said to myself was to stay calm, I still have rounds and I tasted his power.  I knocked him down, and I knew we were even, and I just wanted to win the last few rounds.  He started out the rounds strong, but my pressure not only influenced the judges, but began to break him down. He started punching out of fear instead of skill,” said Perez.  “As long as I stayed consistent and kept my pressure, I knew that I would prevail.”

Said Aikens, “It was a good fight.  It was an action packed fight.  We both landed some good shots.  They gave it to him based off of his knockdown,” said Aikens.  “After I knocked him down, I should have slowed up and took my time.  In the next round, he caught me with a good shot.  There were a lot of things said in the build up to this fight, and I fought off of a lot of anger.  I will be back.  I am a real fighter.  All champions don’t win belts.”

Undefeated John Bauza, Omar Salem, Michael Williams Jr., & Ryan Wilczak in action

Atlantic City, NJ (August 22, 2018) – Glen Tapia has suffered a shoulder injury in training, thus elevating an “All-Atlantic City Battle” between super middleweights Antowyan Aikens and DeCarlo Perez to the eight-round main event on Saturday, September 8th at The Bourbon Room in The Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City.

This will be the eighth appearance in Atlantic City for Aikens.

“This fight to me is one of those fights that you dream about but never expect it to happen,” said Aikens. “This fight will be one to talk about for many years to come and I’m looking forward to putting on a great show in my hometown in front of my family and friends. Words cannot express how happy and excited I am. I can’t wait to put on a great performance that night. I got a great team around me. I’m focused on the task at hand; I’m ready for anything they have to offer.”

“I’m ready for whatever comes September 8. My jab and superior boxing skills will lead me to what I’m killing myself in the gym for and that’s the NJ State Championship. The fact that its for a title puts me in a place where my work ethic is just multiplied by a million and more. I am excited to be fighting in my hometown and can’t wait to put on a great show.”

“I am hungry. I think a lot of people see that I haven’t been active and think they can take advantage of it. Well that’s a bad idea because I’m always training and always preparing myself. You know what they say, ‘stay ready so you don’t have to get ready’ that’s what I do. I think a lot of people would agree and say I’m a very formidable opponent on short notice and now basically given me 10 weeks to prepare for someone, so I’m excited and looking forward to bringing my best.”

HUMBERTO VELAZCO IN TROUBLE WITH GOVERNMENT OF MEXICO FOR PULLING OUT OF FIGHT

AGUASCALIENTES, MX (April 30, 2018) – Super middleweight prospect, Humberto “Tito” Velazco (19-1-1, 13 KOs), who is promoted by Sugar Promotions, is taking heat from the Government of Mexico for pulling out of his scheduled fight with Devis Caceres (24-8, 19 KOs), that was supposed to take place this past Saturday in Aguascalientes, MX.

Velazco was set to face Devis Caceres (24-8, 19 KOs) for the vacant WBC Silver Super Middleweight Title at the “Feria de Campeones” card promoted by Sugar Promotions, but pulled out at the last minute, putting the entire card in jeopardy.

“We have programs here in Mexico that are funded by the government of Mexico in Aguascalientes,” said Dr. Lorenzo Soboranes Maya, director of Latino public relations for Sugar Promotions in Mexico. “One of which was this weekend’s “Feria de Campeones” boxing event that took place at the Plaza de Toros San Marcos arena. After signing the contract, Velazco pulled out of the fight, leaving everyone involved scrambling for a replacement. This kind of conduct will not be tolerated, and legal action will be addressed. “As Velazco’s promoter, I did everything on my end to get him a shot at the vacant WBC Silver Super Middleweight Title,” said Oscar Vazquez, CEO of Sugar Promotions. “We came to an agreement on what his purse would be, he signed the contract, and then pulled out of the fight in the final days leading up to the fight. I have Velazco under contract. If Velazco thinks he’s going to fight with another promoter, that promoter better think twice, as I have my lawyers ready to file a lawsuit with anyone trying to promote him.”

Ellis battered the upset-specialist Goyco for much of the fight, and almost had the tough Philadelphian stopped several times during the fight.  Ellis of Lynn, Massachusetts cruised home by with the victory by scores of 60-53 twice and 59-54 to raise his mark to 15-0-2.

Alday, who was making his debut under the GH3 Promotions banner, fought as expected by using good boxing skills while mixing power shots.  He just needed a wicked body shot to end things at at 1:28 of round three to keep unblemished at 7-0 with 7 knockouts.

“Ronald came back very nicely after a tough fight in February,” said GH3 Promotions CEO Vito Mielnicki, who was referring to Ellis’ disputed draw with Junior Younan in February.  “His next fight will be another significant fight against a top opponent.  He is a couple fights away from something big in the super middleweight division.  As for Joey, he performed terrific.  He is a big junior middleweight who displayed both boxing skills and power.  We will bring him along nicely, and have him back in May.”
