Lee Baxter Promotions Inks Logan McGuinness

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (August 3, 2016) – Toronto-based Lee Baxter Promotions is proud to announce the signing of undefeated super featherweight contender Logan “Cotton” McGuinness to an exclusive promotional agreement.

Living and fighting out of Orangeville, Ontario, McGuinness has an outstanding 23-0-1 professional ledger with 10 victories coming by knockout. The 29-year-old McGuinness is a former WBA-NABA champion at 126, 130 and 135 pounds, earning NABA Fighter of the Year in 2011.

Formerly ranked number 4 in the world by the WBA, McGuinness has been inactive since May 2015 due to out of the ring issues and is excited to get back in the squared circle.

McGuinness said of his new promotional agreement and return to fighting in Canada “it feels great to have signed with Lee Baxter and this is something I feel has been a long time coming. I think the two of us will make some noise and do big things together. I have had an unfortunate couple of years as anyone who has followed my career understands but I’m a true believer in things happening for a reason and everything seems to be falling into place. I’m motivated and rejuvenated. I can’t wait to fight in Toronto!”

Baxter, a longtime fixture in the Canadian boxing scene who recently created the “Next Generation” fight series, is thrilled to be working with a longtime friend who he believes has a bright future ahead of him.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Logan and the timing is great for both of us. He had some unexpected layoffs but is still unbeaten and a very talented fighter. There’s been a public demand for him to fight in Canada again since 18 of his professional matches have been here and we’re proud to be making this happen. I’m looking at having him potentially fight twice in 2016 and the people in Ontario are as excited to see him fight as he is to fight in front of them. The sky is definitely the limit with Logan!”

Details on Logan’s return to the ring will be announced shortly.

Weaver Back In UK Action – Faces Skripkins At York Hall This Saturday.

Former Team GB star Iain ‘The Blessed One’ Weaver is set for his first UK bout, since returning from America, this coming Saturday at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, where he will face Latvian Dinars Skripkins.

Weaver, who last fought at York Hall back in October 2013, has been establishing himself as one of the top prospects in the ultra competitive Super Featherweight division internationally.

Since his last visit to the home of boxing in the Capital City, Weaver has secured two excellent first class stoppage wins over Spain based Moroccan Hassan Elyatouti and Brazilian Edilson Rio.

In his last bout, against Newark, New Jersey’s then unbeaten prospect Wanzell Ellison, Weaver was the victim of some good old fashioned home cooking of the scorecards, to blot his otherwise pristine record.

Now back on British soil once more Weaver, made it clear that he is determined to get a couple more good wins under his belt, before attempting to get a rematch against Ellison on neutral ground sometime next year.

“To say we were disappointed last time out is an understatement, I won that fight comfortably, yet only one judge scored it my way.

We’ll fight this Saturday and then have at least one more fight here, then we will be doing everything we can to secure a rematch, this time either here in the UK or maybe somewhere neutral like Germany.

Back to now though, I’m really looking forward to being back York Hall, I have such fond memories of fighting there.

There’s always a good atmosphere there, it really is a special place.

We don’t know too much about Dinars (Skripkins), but have heard he is a very tough kid.

Earlier this year he beat German prospect Tunahan Keser and from what we’ve heard that was a great fight and a fantastic performance by Dinars.

So we are not underestimating him one iota, but also know that he is beatable and that’s our plan, beat him and do it in style.”

Iain Weaver versus Dinars Skripkins features on the Mark Lyons and Billy James-Elliott Wise Guys promotions LORDS OF THE RING II event will take place at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday 29th August 2015.

EL PASO, TX (July 19, 2015) – In his first 8-round bout, undefeated Super-Featherweight sensation, Mario Barrios (10-0, 5 KOs), cruised to a sound victory against Arturo Esquivel (9-3, 2 KOs), to record his tenth win.  The impressive conquest took place this past Saturday at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas on the PBC on CBS event, headlined by Carl Frampton vs. Alejandro Gonzalez Jr.

Using his tremendous height and reach advantage, Barrios controlled the action with a long jab and precise combinations.  Esquivel, who was the naturally bigger man, wasn’t able to land any clean punches on Barrios, who won every round.  Scorecards read 80-72 across the board.

“Going eight rounds for the first time was a great learning experience for me.” said Mario Barrios, who is managed by Al Haymon. “I was able to pace myself throughout the entire fight and never got tired.  I could have gone four more rounds if this was a twelve round fight.  Esquivel is a very tough fighter and I’m glad we both came out healthy.  I’ll be ready to get back in the ring as soon as Haymon has another date for me.  I’m very thankful for all the opportunities Haymon Boxing has given me.”
