NEF RETURNS TO LEWISTON ON SUPER BOWL WEEKEND WITH AN MMA SUPER CARD

Lewiston, Maine (Janvier 19, 2018) – The night before the National Football League (NFL) delivers its 2017-2018 season finale, Combats Nouvelle-Angleterre (NEF) will return to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston for the first time in eight months as the fight promotion presents “NEF 32: Super Samedi.” And while New England football fans will have to wait until this Sunday’s AFC championship game to find out whether their beloved Patriots will play in the Super Bowl, area mixed-martial-arts fans learned today which of their favorites will compete at “NEF 32” as promotion executives released the full fight card for the February 3rd événement.

Dans l'événement principal de la soirée, Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (14-11) prend Taylor Trahan (7-8) at a catchweight of 150-pounds. One of the biggest MMA stars ever to come out of Maine, Boyington will make his return to the NEF cage after a two-year absence that saw him compete on the global stage in places like Russia and New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden. Trahan makes his third trip to Maine to compete. He is coming off a win over Connor Barry (3-2) l'automne dernier.

Aaron “Implacable” Lacey (4-1) faces off avec Josh Parker (6-9) dans un combat de poids plume. Lacey suffered the first loss of his pro career in November when a fight he was arguably on the way to winning was stopped by a doctor due to a cut on Lacey’s head. Parker will look to continue his recent success in the MMA cage after recent victories over Andre Belcarris (0-2) et Derek Shorey (4-9).

CJ Aiguière (3-0) is out to make history by becoming the first competitor to hold NEF championships simultaneously in multiple weight divisions. Ewer is the reigning NEF Pro Middleweight Champion. À “NEF 32,” he has the opportunity to capture the NEF Pro Welterweight Title when he meets Kemran Lachinov (5-2) for the vacant strap.

Also in professional welterweight action will be Micro “La Moustache” Hansen (5-8) et Jesse “Le Viking” Erickson (9-7) in a fight billed asThe Berserker vs. The Viking.Hansen and Erickson have developed a rivalry as coaches of local gyms Berserkers MMA and Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ), respectivement.

Speaking of which, Nate Boucher (2-1), a product of CMBJJ, et Ryan Burgess (2-2) of Berserkers MMA will headline the amateur portion of the fight card. The flyweights, former teammates on the Mountain Valley High School wrestling squad, have engaged in a recent war of words heading into the bout. The winner will be in line for a shot at the amateur flyweight title later this spring.

2017 NEF “Recrue de l'année” jayda “Lil Killah” Mur d'enceinte (1-0) returns to the cage on February 3rd to meet Florida’s Amanda Gallo (0-1). Bailey made history in November atNEF 31by becoming the youngest competitor ever to compete, (and win), dans la cage NEF. She turned 18, the legal age for competing in MMA in Maine, just a week prior to the event.

Stacy Lupo made his NEF cage debut in the summer of 2016, facing fellow forty-something athlete Dr. Steve Bang (1-1). Lupo and Bang went deep into the third round in a grueling, back-and-forth battle before Bang was able to finish the fight by TKO. Prior to stepping in the cage that night, Lupo, a former wrestler at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, Maine, already had more than three decades worth of martial arts experience. He holds black belts in both Taekwondo and Shotokan karate. Lupo competed in amateur boxing and kickboxing in the 1980s and 1990s. Actuellement, he is a member of The Outlet based in Dexter, Maine and also operates Lupo’s Mid Maine Karate.

I’m very unhappy with my first showing in the MMA ring,” said Lupo. “I feel I let down my fans and my students. I’m hoping to redeem myself in this next match. I heard Mr. Hart wants a stand-up fight, and that’s what I’m hoping for too. I’d like to showcase my skills, so I look forward to February 3rd.”

Comme son adversaire, David Hart is also looking for his first victory in the MMA cage. He made his debut last summer atNEF 30in Bangor in a losing effort against Zach Faulkner (1-0). Hart took Faulkner into the second round before getting submitted. He returned a few weeks later atNEF 31in Portland and lost again via submission against 56-year-old Gary Carr (1-0). Maintenant, Hart is looking forward to testing his striking skills against another striker in the form of Lupo. Hart represents Kenney’s MMA of Lisbon, Maine.

I look forward to fighting in Lewiston,” said Hart. “Lupo looks like a tough opponent and has good striking. I am up to the challenge and want to get my first win and the first win for Kenney’s MMA. Ce sera un grand combat.”

THE DOCTOR IS IN; BANG RETURNS TO NEF MMA CAGE

Lewiston, Maine (Juin 2, 2016) – At most New England Fights (NEF) événements, Steve Bang, Sr. (1-1) would be on the other side of the cage either watching one of his sons do battle or acting as the cageside physician. Sur Juin 18, 2016, cependant, as he has done twice in the past, Bang will enter the mixed-martial-arts cage (MMA) in Lewiston as a competitor. Le 46 year-old bariatric surgeon from Auburn, Maine will take on 48 ans Stacy Lupo (0-0) in an amateur MMA lightweight bout at “NEF 24: TERRE PROMISE.”

I love competition and how it drives us to improve and become a more perfect version of ourselves,” a déclaré le Dr. Coup. “It has been a year since I have battled in the cage. This past year has been filled with the accomplishment of personal milestones and athletic goals with many more yet to be realized. Amidst all of this chaos, the stars have once again aligned to give me the opportunity to reenter the battle arena where the stakes of competition, pour moi, are highest.

A native of Riverton, Wyoming, Dr. Bang graduated from Brigham Young University in 1994 and then from the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998. Coming from the medical field, he is well aware of the risks he takes every time he enters the cage.

Just days after turning 47, I will face a warrior intent upon bodily harm and yet I find myself incredibly blessed and thankful for the health and privilege to do so,” Dr. Bang continued. “I bring the health of mind, body and spirit beyond what is required to just be a participant. I have checked all of the boxes that give me the tools required to be a victorious warrior at any age.

Dr. Bang currently trains alongside his sons at Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ). Steve Bang, Jr. (1-1), Skyler Bang (0-0), Shawn Bang (1-1) and foster son Conner Murphy (1-0) will join their father in cage competition atNEF 24.

I am passionate about my training, and take advantage of every metric available to quantify and qualify that training. By every metric, I am at my peak performance levels. I am in the best shape of my life, better than I have ever been. One day that trend will indeed head south, but today is not that day. I do not take this health and privilege for granted. Every moment of life and every opportunity we are given is a gift and I plan to take full advantage of it as if it were my last.

Dr. Bang’s opponent, à “NEF 24,” Stacy Lupo, while making his debut in the MMA cage, is a longtime veteran of combat sports. Lupo currently trains out of the Shatterproof Combat Club in Dexter, Maine, but he has been a martial artist for an amazing 32 ans. He holds black belts in both Taekwondo and Shotokan karate. He was an accomplished wrestler in high school, placing in states his senior year. For more than a decade, Lupo ran his own martial arts academy before closing shop to concentrate on raising his family. In the 1980s and 1990s, Lupo competed in amateur boxing and kickboxing. His last kickboxing bout saw him win a unanimous decision over Don Labbe in the main event of a 1995 card in Lewiston.

I don’t know Steve personally, but like me, he is an old man in a young man’s sport, so I give him his due and my respect,” said Lupo. “As the saying goes, ‘be wary of old men in a world where men die young.I want to thank him for giving me the chance to compete in a sport I’ve always loved – si, thank you Steven Bang, I look forward to our meeting.

I do not know my opponent personally, but I respect anyone willing to do what it takes to get to the cage door,” said Bang in closing. “That next single step across the threshold commands another whole level of respect. As with the warriors of old, we will battle with the same intensity to maim, kill or disable until compelled to mercy by the referee. Then we will have a bond that cannot be understood, nor shared, by anyone who has never been there.
