NOVICE CLASS FINALS RESULTS FROM LOWELL
LOWELL, Pawg. (Lub ob hlis ntuj 19, 2016) – Fourteen 2016 New England Tournament of Champions winners were crowned last night in the novice class of 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Team Central produced the most individual winners with seven, followed by Team Western with five, and Team Central had two.
The unofficial fight of the night was between Salem, MA welterweight Kenny Larson (Team Central) and his Dorchester, MA opponent Jarrod LoMax (Team Southern), in which Larson won a three-round decision, 3-2.
Portland, ME bantamweight Christian Morales (Team Northern) continued his performance run in the tournament, winning a three-round decision, 5-0, over hometown Lowell favorite Marquis Fowler (Team Central) Morales’ impressive showings in the tournament will lead him into an open division spot in next week’s New Englands.
In a Central N.E. (Lowell ntau dua) heavyweight final rematch, due to a round-time issue, Methuen’s Jesus Flores (Kwj dej Boxing txoj kev) defeated Haverhill’s John Roche (Haverhill Downtown Boxing) by the same score as their original match in another thrilling, back-and-forth bout ending a in three-round decision (5-0). The crosstown rivalry between the two gyms and boxers led up to another compelling match with Flores qualifying for Hnub peb night’s open class semifinals of the New England Tournament of Champions.
The New England Tournament of Champions open class semifinals and finals will be held next Wednesday thiab Hnub plaubevenings, respectively, at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The Outstanding New England Boxer in the novice class will be presented to the winner this Wednesday night at the N.E. open semifinals.

Jeter Promotions signs undefeated Welterweight Steve Weimer

York, PAJ (Lub ob hlis ntuj 17, 2016) – Jeter Promotions is pleased to announce the signing of undefeated Welterweight prospect Steve Weimer to an exclusive promotional contract.
Weimer of York, PAJ. has a record of 9-0 with two knockouts and is looking to get back in the ring following a four-year hiatus.
Weimer did not leave the ring because of the usual boxing stereotypes, but he took some time off to get his college degree. Weimer graduated from York College with a degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
Weimer, now 26 years-old had an amateur record of 105-31 was a three-time Pennsylvania Junior Golden Gloves champion and and also won a Pennsylvania open class Golden Gloves title. He holds an amateur win over 140-pound contender Emanuel Taylor and held his own in a fight with future U.S. Olympian Sadam Ali.
He turned professional in 2008 with a third round stoppage over Spencer Harsley and signed with upstart promoter TKO Promotions. Weimer racked up those nine wins in a three and a half year run, before heading off to college.
“I know Jeter Promotions can get me to the top,”said Weimer. I saw what Jeter Promotions did for Tony Jeter for his career and I know what Jeter Promotions can do for mine. Combine all that with my ability and I know I will fight consistently. With Jeter Promotions, I know I can get to the top and be in big fights.
“Jeter Promotions is excited to add Steve to our roster. Jeter Promotions will do for him as It did for my career. Jeter Promotions will build him to get him rated and I can see him being in a lot of big fights in the future and eventually win a world title, ” Said Jeter.
Tony Jeter is a Middleweight contender who twice cracked the world rankings and fought Chris Eubank Jr. for the WBA Interim Middleweight title. Jeter formed his promotional company and promoted 20 events. Jeter is a licensed promoter in Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia and is waiting to receive a promoters license in Pennsylvania.
Weimer is expected to make his debut under the Jeter Promotions banner on Tim 9at the Springfield ABC in Springfield, Virginia.

The Fight of the Night was the light heavyweight match of the novice class as Team South’s Henry Ventura (N. Dartmouth, MA) overcame two knockdowns to defeat Team North’s Tyler Jacques (Me nyuam. Returning New England welterweight champion Xavier Vega, representing Canal Street Boxing in Lawrence (MA), was a 4-1 winner against Michael Fontenez, of Nashua, NH.

Returning New England Golden Gloves Champion Xavier Vega in action this Thursday night at Central N.E. semifinals in Lowell

LOWELL, Pawg. (Lub ib hlis ntuj 25, 2016) – Returning New England Golden Gloves welterweight champion Xavier Vega, of Lawrence (MA), leads a host of talented open and novice class amateur boxers into this Thursday night’s (Jan. 8) in the Central New England (Lowell ntau dua) semifinals of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
The 21-year-old Vega, representing Canal Street Boxing, faces Nashua (NH) challenger Michael Fontanez in one of eight open class matches. There are also eight novice class matches scheduled.
Vega, who has a 33-3 amateur record, didn’t start boxing until he was 17 because he has only one kidney. A construction worker by day, Vega hopes to become a professional boxer and, if not, a Lawrence police officer in order to give back to his community.

A novice super heavyweight showdown between heavy hitters Ryan Brooks, of Weymouth (MA), and Boston’s Christian Ortiz. One of the most exciting boxers in action this Thursday evening is novice light welterweight Edwin Rozon, of Haverhill (MA). Arlington’s novice middleweight Peter Maher, representing the Somerville Boxing Club, is a promising prospect.

LOWELL, Pawg. (Lub ib hlis ntuj 23, 2016) – The Central New England (Lowell ntau dua) quarterfinals round of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship was held last night at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium with 13 highly competitive matches in the novice class.
All 13 matches went the three-round distance for 39 rounds of action that the large crowed enjoyed from start to finish. The super heavyweight match between Dorchester’s 381-pound Ivens Derival and Haverhill’s 266-pound Kyle Davis was of special especially because of their respective sizes. Davis won by way of a three-round decision, 4-1, in a back-and-forth match that had fans standing throughout.
