ARON MARTINEZ SCORES UNANIMOUS DECISION WIN OVER DEVON ALEXANDER IN PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS ON ESPN FIGHT CARD FROM GILA RIVER ARENA IN GLENDALE, AZ

GLENDALE, AZ. (Oktobro 14, 2015) -Tonight’s Superegaj Boksaj #?ampiono (PBC) Sur ESPN fight card featured Mexican brawler Aron Martinez (20-4-1, 4 KOs) capturing a unanimous decision (97-93, 97-93, 96-94) victory over former world champion Devon Alexander “La Granda” (26-4, 14 KOs). In a 10-round battle, spent mostly on the inside, Martinez managed to emerge victorious.
The televised opener showcased a 12-round, action-packed battle as Lee Selby (22-1, 8 KOs) made his U.S. debut and secured a unanimous decision (116-112, 118-110, 119-109) win over former three-division world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel (54-5-2, 39 KOs).
Here is what the fighters had to say about their performances tonight:
DEVON ALEXANDER
I wanted to be smart and aggressive in there tonight, and that’s what I did.
He was coming in fast like we knew he would. We knew he was going to come forward. I just couldn’t get my shots off like I wanted to.
Consecutive losses are tough, but I’m not easily discouraged. I just need to regroup and then we’ll see what’s next. I’m still considered one of the best.
ARON MARTINEZ
I’m the heavier guy. I’ve always fought at 147 Lbs. This is my natural weight and I sparred against much bigger guys during the last few weeks of training camp. I was facing fast 180 lbs fighters in camp to get ready for this.
We followed our game plan tonight. I give (Alexander) props for standing in there with me.
Fighting on a PBC card on ESPN is the best kind of opportunity for me. I’ll use this fight to get another great chance like I got tonight.
I’ll fight whoever they put in front of me. I’m always the underdog, but I embrace it because that mentality has pushed me to work harder.
LEE SELBY
My jab, reach and speed were my biggest advantages tonight. That was how I got the win.
All the cuts I’ve had in my career have come against shorter fighters like (Montiel). When I got cut tonight in the 6th round it was the same thing. I caught a head butt.
I was honestly disappointed in my performance tonight. I got the win and it was a great feeling to get my first one on U.S. soil. But the fans didn’t see me at my best, and a big part of that was Montiel’s experience. He’s a great fighter.
FERNANDO Montiel
I thought it was a lot closer fight than the judges had it on the scorecard.
I spent the first few rounds waiting for him to come at me so I could counterpunch. But he wasn’t engaging me so I became the aggressor and brought the fight to him.
It was an honor to fight on this PBC card here in Arizona. I honestly think I deserve a rematch. I want to fight him again.

PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS ON ESPN MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES IN ADVANCE OF DEVON ALEXANDER VS. ARON MARTINEZ AT GILA RIVER ARENA IN GLENDALE, AZ ON OCTOBER 14

Coverage On ESPN Begins At 9 P.M. ET/6 P.M. MT/PT
GLENDALE, AZ. (Oktobro 12, 2015) – Televised fighters on the Superegaj Boksaj #?ampiono (PBC) Sur ESPN fight card taking place this Wednesday in Glendale, AZ took time out of their busy schedules to host a media workout at Central Street Boxing Gym.
Devon Alexander “La Granda” (26-3, 14 KOs) will take on battle-tested Mexican Aron Martinez (19-4-1, 4 KOs) in the headlining bout at Gila River Arena. Televised coverage is slated to begin at 9 P.M. ET/6 P.M. MT/PT with the U.S. debut of featherweight world champion Lee Selby (21-1, 8 KOs) as he takes on former three-division world championFernando “Cochulito” Montiel (54-4-2, 39 KOs).
Here is what the fighters had to say in anticipation of their bouts:
DEVON ALEXANDER
This camp has been all about getting things right. I had to make sure my mentality was right. Losing is not an option anymore. In my loss to Amir (Khan), it wasn’t anything that he necessarily did to make me lose. All the losses that I’ve had I think I could have just as easily won those fights. This is a mental game, and I wasn’t there mentally for those fights.
I had to get rid of the distractions around camp that were keeping me from fully focusing on the task at hand and how important boxing is to me. I had to focus and then re-focus on how much this means to me. Everybody needs to reprogram themselves once in a while to help you remember what’s important.
I know Aron Martinez is going to come to fight. He knows my record and that I’ve beaten some of the best. So he knows it’s going to be tough for him, and I’m sure he’ll bring his best into the ring with him, but it’s not going to be enough. When I’m focused like this nobody can beat me.
ARON MARTINEZ
My style is to fight and hopefully he stands and exchanges with me, but if he doesn’t we have a good game plan to box him. We know he’s a boxer so I’m pretty sure that’s what we’ll see.
I have to take care of Alexander. I want to give a good fight and then go on to bigger fights. I’m here to fight whoever they put in front of me. I’m ready to fight anybody.
I haven’t met one single person who didn’t think I won the Robert Guerrero fight, but that’s the past. I believe I beat him, but it’s boxing and I’m ready to fight a way different type of fighter.
It felt good to knock down Guerrero because everyone underestimates my power. I fought a lot of strong guys and they’ve felt my punches. We train to box or trade blows.
LEE SELBY
“Mi estas vere ekscitita. This is my first world title defense and it’s against a tough challenge that most guys wouldn’t take. It’s not an easy win, especially with me having to come overseas.
I’ve chosen a formidable foe and if I beat a guy like him and look good, it should raise my profile overnight.
I don’t really study the fighters, I just like to know a little bit about their style. Montiel can do both, he doesn’t have a typical style. I like to keep it simple because you don’t want to prepare for one thing and then have your opponent come out doing something different.
Montiel is a big puncher but I’ve been with lots of good punchers. I’ve beaten several unbeaten guys and I have loads of experience for my young age.
I’m used to coming out here for training camps and as far as not having the home crowd advantage, I’ve won titles in hostile crowds before so it won’t be a problem.
I think I’m there with the best in the division. I want to fight the top guys and I think if I get a big win and look good here, I’ll be in the mix.
With these fights being on free T.V., more people get to see me and my profile will change rapidly as long as I do what I’m capable of.
FERNANDO Montiel
I honestly believe that (Selby) chose the wrong guy to fight. I’ve had great preparation for this fight. All the work has been put in. He just chose the wrong guy to make his US debut against.
I was very happy when I heard that we were going to fight in Arizona. There are lots of Mexicans here, so I know I’ll have a lot of people behind me Merkrede. It’s going to be great to fight here.
I certainly don’t feel like age has anything to do with this fight. Rigardu min. I’m ready to go.

Jen kion la batalantoj devis diri:

Leo Santa Cruz:
I was surprised Abner came out so strong. He came right at me but we figured him out and we got the win.
I stayed outside with the jab. We were able to take control.
My dad told me that we could beat him by boxing. We want to be aggressive but #?I-noktewe had to box him too and that’s how we got it done.
If he wants the rematch I’ll give him the rematch. I want to fight the best. I want the big fights.
I’m very happy. Tio ĉi estas revo venita veran. I’m happy and excited and thankful to all of my fans who supported me.
Abner Mares:
“?i estis proksima batalo, but I thought I won the fight. I thought I pulled it off.
My plan was to box him, but I started out really fast. I felt good but my corner told me to box more, so I did that. Ĝi estis bona batalo.
Leo is good. Li estas granda batalanto. I knew it was going to be a tough fight.
I’m more than willing to have a rematch. ?i estis proksima batalo. I knew he had never faced a fighter like me and he proved today he’s a great fighter.
The fans were the winners #?I-nokte. It was a great fight for the fans. I think I deserve a rematch and I think the fans deserve another show.
It was my mistake. I started really good, but along the way I changed my plan for some weird reason and I don’t know why I did it.
Julio Ceja:
I was well prepared, but I was surprised I got dropped. I felt mentally and physically good after that and I knew I was going to come back.
At first it was difficult because Ruiz was moving too much, however I knew I was going to win.
I hope Leo Santa Cruz goes back up to super bantamweight so I can fight him next.
Alfredo Angulo:
“Mi sentas vere bonan. I worked and used my jab. I’ve never used my jab too much and #?I-nokte I tried to use it more and more and more.
When I fought in June, it had been a long time since I fought and I was fighting in a new weight class. Esti honesta, I was nervous and today I was more comfortable.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday:
LEO SANTA CRUZ
This is my dream since I was small. I wanted to be the main event and I worked hard for it. I never gave up. I’m so excited to be here in my hometown seeing my hard work paying off.
“Mi bone preparita. This is the hardest fight of my career but that’s why I train hard. These are the fights I want because these are the fights the fans want.
We’re going to go out with the intention of knocking him out. If we can’t, we’re still going to make a great fight for the fans and find a way to get the victory.
I need this win for my legacy and to get to that next level. I’m here to fight the best.
Every fighter has a weakness. When we get inside the ring we’re going to find it. We have a great game plan and it’s going to show Sabate.
I’m very motivated by keeping my 0 intact. I want to show the world that I deserve to fight the best. If I beat Abner, I can get to that next level. I’m very motivated to go out there and get the win.
I think the crowd will be 50-50. We’re both from here so it’s going to be crazy. At the end of the fight it’s going to be rowdy. We’re excited that they’re showing love and we’ll give them a great fight.
“Mi ne povas atendi Sabato night to give everybody a great show. You don’t want to miss it.
ABNERa MARES
I think I’ve done enough talking. I’ve talked about how I’m going to beat him and I know I’m going to get it done.
It’s here. I’m ready to put it to work. I’m going to do what I know how to do, which is fight and give it my all.
I’m blessed to be here. I’m excited to be fighting at STAPLES Center. It shows all the hard work I’ve put in.
I’m not worried about the crowd and who they’re rooting for. I’m there to make everybody a believer. It’s going to be an amazing atmosphere and I can’t wait.
I’ve definitely faced tougher opponents than he has. I’ve been in against legitimate champions. I’m taking him to deep waters.
My loss is completely forgotten. In life you have obstacles, especially in this sport. I’m over it. Mi revenis. This is where I want to be. When I fight guys the level of Leo Santa Cruz it brings the best out of me.
It’s time. It’s time to give everybody a “Batalo de la Jaro”. There’s no doubt. I’m going to go in there and have fun.
HUGO RUIZ
I’ve worked very hard and conditioned myself to be my very best. This is what I’ve dreamed about since my pro debut. I made my debut eight years ago and this has always been on my list of goals and now I have that opportunity.
My opponent is a great fighter. I’m a great fighter. This is everything that I covet. I want to thank Los Angeles for supporting these fighters.
It gives me butterflies to think about the big stage on Saturday, but it is really an honor. I’m in spectacular condition to put on a great performance on Saturday.
What Ceja and I will do on Saturday is put on a spectacular performance. I promise an amazing fight. The ring will be hot and ready for the main event.
JULIO CESAR CEJA
I’ve trained very hard and I’m very focused. My conditioning is fantastic. Being on this card means a lot because of two great Mexican warriors that are headlining.
This is huge for three reasons: because it’s a world title, because I want to be victorious and because I am making my U.S. Debuto. This is all very important to me.
The loss I suffered is in my past. I tossed it away and put it in the rear view mirror. My focus is strictly on this opportunity. I’m not going to have any excuses. I think I’m more motivated mentally, physically and spiritually than I was for my last world title challenge.
I am glad that Hugo Ruiz is prepared because I am ready to put on a great performance Saturday. It will live up to the magnitude of this great event.
It’s been an extensive training camp in Mexico and I’m focused and dedicated to showcasing my talents on Saturday.
I can guarantee on Saturday the fans will get a great fight and a night of action.
ALEJANDRO LUNA
I’m really excited and grateful to be on this undercard. Mares and Santa Cruz are guys that I admire and look up to in this sport.
It’s a little weird because I grew up in a cowboy family, but something about boxing captivated me as a kid. I went to the gym even though my dad didn’t want me to. I proved everyone wrong.
I fought over a hundred amateur fights and now I’m here in this great position. My opponent is coming to fight. I’ve prepared myself one hundred percent. We’re here to give fireworks and you should expect fireworks.
