ORLANDO (October 31, 2015) – Malik “King” Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) won a heavyweight showdown with Tony “The Tiger” Thompson (40-6, 27 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round on Bounce TV Friday night from The Venue at UCF in Orlando.
Scott controlled most of the action thoughout the 10-round battle using his superior movement to control the pace of the fight. As he has throughout his career, Thompson refused to give in and scored a big knockdown with a thundering right hand in round nine.
The fight would end up going the distance, with all three judges giving the bout to Scott by scores of 98-91, 96-93 and 95-94.
The action continued with the power-punching Sergey Lipinets (8-0, 6 KOs) taking down previously unbeaten Lydell Rhodes (23-1-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-round showdown of unbeaten super lightweights.
Lipinets stalked the athletic-Rhodes early on and wore him down before dominating and nearly-stopping him in the later rounds. Lipinets landed 79 power punches out of 122 landed and his 79 power punches matched Rhodes 79 total punches landed. The final judges tallies were 96-93 and 98-91 twice, all in favor of LIpinets.
The opening televised bout featured a pair of undefeated prospects and saw Samuel “El Macho” Figueroa (10-0, 4 KOs) win a unanimous decision over Javontae Starks (13-1, 7 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight fight.
Figueroa was able to break through the defenses of the much taller Starks and use his awkward southpaw style score with big right hands. “El Macho” out-landed Starks by a total of 132-113 and was rewarded by the judges with scores of 78-74 and 77-75 twice in his favor.
Additional undercard action saw a rising super lightweight star in Gervonta “Tank” Davis (13-0, 12 KOs), with promoter Floyd “Money” Mayweather watching ringside, stop former world champion Cristobal Cruz (40-19-4, 24 KOs) in the third round.
Davis sent Cruz to the canvas in round one with a straight left-right hook combo and followed that up with an uppercut that put Cruz down again and caused the referee to stop the fight 1:31 into round three.
Here is what the fighters had to say Friday:
MALIK SCOTT
“My skill set was good, but this is one of those tapes I will hate to look at when I get home. Tony got away with a lot. I was making him miss and not making him pay. But let’s not forget I haven’t fought for a whole year. I have to get more active, so after this fight, we’ll see what’s next. I’m never satisfied with my performances, but that’s what keeps me going.
“I was hurt in the ninth, definitely. But I’m in great shape and I wasn’t worried about it. I got through it and let him know he’d have to do it again to win this fight.
“Tony’s legs are very slow, so I was just losing him with the feet all night long.”
TONY THOMPSON
“He was just too fast. If I were younger I would have caught him. A prime Tony would have kicked his ass, but I’m 44 and the years are starting to pile up.
“Malik did a great job of staying away until I was able to catch him with one good shot. He just pitty-patted his way to victory.
“I would rate my performance a D at best. I was the aggressor but I didn’t cut him off good enough until late in the fight. My coach kept telling me to go to the right but for whatever reason I only started going to the right late in the fight. That was when I caught him.
“It was an outstanding performance by Malik. He did what he’s supposed to do to an older fighter.”
SERGEY LIPINETS
“He ran too much. He didn’t want to fight. It’s very difficult to fight someone who doesn’t really want to fight.
“I had him hurt in the eighth, ninth and tenth rounds. Definitely. I was hurting him with every punch, but he was holding so much it wasn’t easy to finish him off. Plus he takes a good punch.
“I learned to put more combinations together. I came to fight, not run.
“He thinks he won the fight? He’s the only one in the whole arena. I won every round. They gave him a few rounds. He should be happy about that.”
LYDELL RHODES
“The judging is what went wrong. I won this fight. I felt I controlled most of the fight until the last couple rounds.
“He came on strong in the later rounds. He caught me in the seventh, eighth and ninth rounds, but I controlled the first six.
“He wasn’t that strong. He had good pressure, but I was never hurt in the fight.
“I know I won this fight.”
SAMUEL FIGUEROA
“I worked hard training for this fight. The sparring in camp was outstanding. I was in great condition for this fight.
“I knew Javontae was a great fighter, but I was prepared for him. He hit me a lot but I was in too good of shape to be hurt.
“I’m so thankful for this opportunity. I appreciate it. Prichard Colon this was for you.”
JAVONTAE STARKS
“It was my fault for leaving it to the judges. I feel like I could have done a lot more.
“A unanimous decision is a little tough to take. I gave a lot of rounds away. I need to be busier next time. It was a learning experience.
“It takes character to come back from a loss and I will come back better than ever.”
GERVONTA DAVIS
“I did well. I need to work on some things. I listened to my corner and to Floyd, I’m thankful for everyone who got me prepared.
“We’ll get right back into the ring and continue to get better.”
FLOYD MAYWEATHER
“Gervonta is a young kid from Baltimore who comes from a rough background like myself. He works hard and is dedicated to the sport of boxing.
“Mayweather Promotions wants to take him to the next level. The ultimate goal is to see him break all of my records.”

HOUSTON (October 29, 2015) – Before the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBCSN fight card this Saturday, some of the fighters hosted a media workout at Charlo Brothers Boxing Academy. The card will feature a main event showcasing undefeated rising star Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (26-0, 11 KOs) out of Houston, Texas taking on former world champion Joachim Alcine (35-7-2, 21 KOs).
Televised coverage will begin at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT with the hard-hitting Tony Harrison (21-1, 18 KOs) taking on Cecil McCalla (20-2, 7 KOs).
Here is what Jermell Charlo had to say before stepping in the ring on Saturday:
JERMELL CHARLO
“Fighting here in Houston in front of my hometown crowd with all of my family and friends to support me is huge. This is my first opportunity to fight as a main event in my city, and I’m excited to put on a great show for the fans.
“Joachim Alcine does certain things in the ring that I’ve seen and taken note of. There are some things I believe I can take advantage of. Hopefully he makes those mistakes and I can make him pay. But he puts in hard work. I know I’m not just going to go in there and beat him up. I’m going to have to be smart, but it should be a very entertaining fight.
“Sometimes too much experience can be a bad thing. Alcine is going to come in there on Saturday and try to use his experience to beat me, but I’m confident he’s going to run into some problems with me.
“My plan is to come in strong and powerful, be the faster man, move a lot and try to make him commit to the things he’s used to seeing me do in previous fights. And that’s how we’re going to open him up.
“I don’t necessarily have a prediction, but I’m going to knock him out. I don’t know what round it will be, but he’s going down.”

WARD AGREES TO EXCLUSIVE MULTI-FIGHT AGREEMENT WITH HBO BOXING

 

NEW YORK, NY (October 29, 2015) – Roc Nation Sports is pleased to announce that Two-Time World Champion and top-rated pound-for-pound fighter Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) will return to the ring on Saturday, Nov. 21 in the co- feature to the Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez middleweight world championship showdown that will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View. Ward has signed an exclusive multi-fight agreement with HBO that will commence with Ward’s Nov. 21 fight at The Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Having cleaned out the super middleweight division, Ward, 31, will be making his debut in the 175-pound light heavyweight division against an opponent to be announced.

 

“HBO is the premier network in boxing and has been a great home to me both as a fighter and a commentator,” Ward said. “I made my professional debut on HBO nearly 11 years ago and I’m excited to move on to this next stage of my career at the light heavyweight division on HBO. My team and I have been hard at work preparing for Nov. 21 and the fans can expect another strong performance in Las Vegas.”

Known for his strong character and integrity outside the ring and his warrior’s instinct inside it, Ward’s skill and talent were apparent early in his outstanding amateur career. He racked up every title in the books, culminating with a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. As the only male American boxer to claim Olympic gold since 1996, Ward joined the likes of Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar De La Hoya. He turned professional on December 18, 2004, scoring a second round technical knockout victory over Chris Molina at Staples Center in a fight that was televised live on HBO. He has gone on to rack up 27 more victories since then, building an ever-growing legion of fans in the process. After becoming the Ring Magazine and WBA Super Middleweight World Champion, rising to the number two spot on the pound-for-pound list and winning the 2011 Fighter of the Year Award (ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Ring Magazine and the Boxing Writers Association of America), it was announced that Ward signed an exclusive promotional agreement with Roc Nation Sports in January 2015, opening a new chapter in his storied boxing career. The Bay Area product returned to the ring on June 20, 2015 at the Oracle Arena in front of his hometown fans in Oakland, California and scored a ninth-round knockout over Paul Smith, continuing his unbeaten streak which dates back to when he was a 13 year old amateur. Ward recently stepped in front of the camera for a completely different role, a part in the upcoming New Line/Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer/Warner Bros. feature “Creed,” hitting theaters on November 25, a few days following fight week. Fellow Bay Area natives, director Ryan Coogler and the film’s star Michael B. Jordan, reached out to Ward so that he could provide his expertise for the film. BROOKLYN (October 29, 2015) – Former world champion and Brooklyn-native Yuri Foreman (32-2, 9 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time since 2013 as part of a stacked undercard featuring a diverse group of fighters from across the boroughs and regions of New York on Saturday, December 5 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The slew of additional talented fighters featured on the card include undefeated rising star from Staten Island and 2012 U.S. Olympian “Sir” Marcus Browne (16-0, 12 KOs), undefeated Brooklyn-native Heather “The Heat” Hardy (14-0, 3 KOs) and Queens’ firefighter Will “Power” Rosinsky (19-2, 10 KOs) who takes on Long Island’s Joe Smith Jr. (19-1, 16 KOs) in a 10-round light heavyweight contest.
“Fans will want to arrive at Barclays Center early on December 5th as we have a tremendous undercard on hand for the live audience featuring neighborhood rivalries and talented fighters of multiple nationalities and backgrounds,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Polish-American Will Rosinsky, of Queens, faces off against Irish-American Joe Smith, of Long Island. The loaded lineup of fights will precede the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING doubleheader headlined by the all-Brooklyn battle between middleweight world champion Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) and former world champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KOs). ).  In the co-feature, WBA Featherweight World Champion Jesus Cuellar (27-1, 21 KOs) will face exciting Puerto Rican contenderJonathan “Polvo” Oquendo (26-4, 16 KOs).

An ordained rabbi, Foreman moved to Brooklyn from Belarus at a young age and found solace inside the legendary Gleason’s Gym. Foreman was sensational in winning the first 27 fights of his career before he defeated Daniel Santos in November 2009 to capture a super welterweight world title. While he lost an all-New York showdown with Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium in 2010, Foreman won the last four fights of his career before retiring in 2013. Now the 35-year-old returns to the ring to fight in front of his hometown fans.
A 2012 U.S. Olympian, Browne has been very impressive since making his pro debut in November 2011. The 24-year-old Staten Island-native has put together a big 2015 with victories over Cornelius White and Aaron Pryor Jr. before he knocked out former world champion Gabriel Campillo in the first round in September. Browne will be making his 10th career start at Barclays Center, the most of any fighter.
A popular Brooklyn fighter who competed in Barclays Center’s first-ever professional female boxing match last year, Hardy has become a staple at the arena since. On December 5, she will be making her fourth consecutive appearance at Barclays Center. A little over two years after her pro debut, Hardy won an international title belt in the super bantamweight division in October 2014. In 2015, she defeated Noemi Bosques and Renata Domsodi leading up to her third fight of the year in December.
Residing in Ozone Park, New York while also serving as a firefighter in Queens, Rosinsky is seeking is fourth consecutive victory. The 30-year-old won the U.S. Amateur Championship at light heavyweight in 2005, was a four-time New York Golden Gloves champion and began his pro career with 14 straight wins. His only defeats were to Edwin Rodriguez and former world champion Kelly Pavlik. He enters the December 5 contest having taken down Paul Gonsalves and Shujaa El Amin to start 2015.
At 26-years-old, Smith Jr. is looking to continue to make a name for himself in the division. The 2008 New York Golden Gloves champion picked up victories over veterans Michael Gbenga, Oti Griffin and Tyrell Henrix in 2014 before adding two more triumphs to his ledger in 2015. The Long Island-native has racked up 13 wins in a row and will be making his Barclays Center debut on December 5.

Aikens of Atlantic City, New Jersey has a record of 10-0 with 1 knockout.  The 26 year-old turned professional in 2011 and has a win over previously undefeated Sherman Artis (2-0).  Aikens is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision over Edgar Perez on May 22nd in Atlantic City.

Fox of 7-0 with 2 knockouts.  The freakishly tall 6’3 1/2 ” Lightweight is just 19 years-old.  He turned professional in 2014.  The Forestville, Maryland native is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision over Juan Carlos Castillo on July 18th in Washington, D.C.

Williams of Harrisburg, PA has a record of 4-0 with 1 knockout.  Williams, 32 years-old, turned professional in 2012 and is coming off a 4-round unanimous decision over Eddie Gates on November 22, 2014.

Castillo was a 2012 Olympian from the Dominican Republic.   Castillo turned professional in 2013 and has knocked out all 7 opponents with the latest being a 1st round stoppage over Jesus Pascual on August 9, 2014 in the Dominican Republic.
Gonzales of Philadelphia has a record of 6-0-2 with one knockout.  The 25 year-old turned professional in 2012 is coming off a 6-round unanimous decision over Ryan Belasco on October 2nd in Philadelphia.
Triplett of boxing rich Youngstown, Ohio has a record of 2-0 with one knockout. He is coming off a 1st round stoppage over Frank Barnes on April 18 in Campbell. Ohio.

Snow of Capitol Heights, Maryland is a 10 year professional.  He won his first 10 fights which has catapulted him to a record of 17-2  with 11 knockouts.  In his last bout, Snow stopped Christopher Sanchez in the 1st round of a bout that took place onMarch 6th.
Rosario of Pennsauken, New Jersey has a record of 3-1 with two knockouts.  The 25 year-old has won three in a row since dropping his pro debut in 2014. He has wins over Eliezer Mendez Garcia (1-0) and his last bout when he stopped Korey Sloane in three rounds on September 19, 2015 in Chester, PA.
Irizarry of Cherry Hill, New Jersey has a record of 3-1-1.  The 23 year-old is looking to rebound from his first pro defeat when he takes on Eliezer Mendez Garcia on November 20 in Philadelphia, PA.
Vasquez of Yonkers, New York has a record of 4-1 with two knockouts.  He has been a pro since 2014 and has won three in a row.  In his last bout, Vasquez stopped previously undefeated Bienvenido Diaz (2-0)in three rounds on September 10 in Westbury, New York

DALLAS (October 29, 2015) – Super welterweight world champion Jermall Charlo (22-0, 17 KOs) will defend his title in his home state against “Silky” Wilky Campfort (21-1, 12 KOs) as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC comes to The Bomb Factory in Dallas Saturday, November 28.  Televised coverage begins at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT.
Also featured, Dallas-native and 2012 Olympian Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. (18-0, 15 KOs) takes on Mexico’s Alejandro “El Elegido” Barrera (28-2, 18 KOs) in a 12-round contest.
“I haven’t stepped out of the gym since I won the title,” said Charlo. “You get the title, you defend it. That’s the motto. I know Campfort is hungry and at the top of his game, but I’ve been training just as hard, if not harder, to defend my title. It took everything I have to get here and it’s going to take everything I have to remain here.”

A newly crowned champion at 24-years-old, Charlo grabbed his title with a dominant third-round stoppage of Cornelius Bundrage in September. Residing in Houston, Charlo fights in his home state for the first time since a 2013 stoppage of Orlando Lora. Charlo built up his resume in 2014 with dominant victories over Hector Munoz, Norberto Gonzalez and Lenny Bottai before shutting out Michael Finney in March leading up to his world title fight.
Born in Haiti but fighting out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Campfort has not lost since his second pro fight in 2009. The 30-year-old has fought professionally in the U.S., Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic and his native-Haiti. He’s won six fights since the beginning of 2014 including stoppages of Milton Nunez and Devon Moncrieffe. In his last contest he stopped Ronald Montes in the second round on September 18.
A member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team who boasted a highly decorated amateur career, the 25-year-old Spence Jr.will look to put on a show in front of his hometown Dallas crowd. Spence Jr. is widely regarded as one of the top rising prospects in the sport and was dominant in his PBC debut on April 11 as he defeated Samuel Vargas by fourth-round knockout and he followed that up by stopping Phil Lo Greco in the third round onJune 20. Most recently, Spence Jr. recorded a flawless performance in his win over South African Chris van Heerden with an eighth-round stoppage on September 11.
Fighting out of Monterrey, Mexico, Barrera will be fighting in the U.S. for the second time in his career after picking up a victory over John Mackey in 2012. The fighting pride of the Coachella Valley in California, Randy “El Matador” Caballero is one of the sport’s most intriguing rising stars and as the IBF World Bantamweight Champion prepares for his Las Vegas debut, he is on the verge of taking his career to the next level in a big way. “El Matador” Caballero has gone from local hero to international standout over the course of a professional career that began in 2010, as his meteoric rise has seen him defeat the likes of Alexis “Beaver” Santiago, Jose Luis “Tapitas” Araiza, Manuel “Suavecito” Roman and Luis “Titi” Maldonado. In 2014, the 25-year-old took his show on the road as he traveled to Kobe, Japan to defeat Kohei Oba via eighth-round technical knockout. British southpaw Lee “Playboy” Haskins has had a big 2015 campaign thus far. The Bristol native regained the EBU Bantamweight Title in February with a decision win over Omar Lamiri and then took the interim IBF Bantamweight crown in June by stopping Ryosuke Iwasa in six rounds. This November, the 31-year-old will attempt to unify the title with the highly touted Caballero and is determined to go back to England with the belt.

Born in Cuba but fighting now out of Miami, Savigne won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games and the 2000 Cuban National Championships. He has beaten Jeff Lacy, Maxell Taylor and previously unbeaten fighters Jackson Junior and Quinton Rankin since turning pro in 2009.

BROOKLYN (Oct. 28, 2015) – Former world champion and Long Island-native Chris Algieri (20-2, 8 KOs) returns to Barclays Center in Brooklyn to take on Ecuador’s Erick Bone (16-2, 8 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout on Saturday, Dec. 5.
The Algieri vs. Bone fight is promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Star Boxing and will be part of a stacked undercard featuring top regional talent that will be announced in its entirety soon. Algieri rose to fame in June 2014 at Barclays Center when he upset Ruslan Provodnikov for a super lightweight world title. The 31-year-old returns to Brooklyn after dropping a narrow and disputed decision to Amir Khan in May. The former kickboxing champion from Huntington, N.Y., built his boxing record on the strength of his excellent movement and skill with the jab. His victory over Provodnikov earned him a shot at Manny Pacquiao in Nov. 2014, a bout that Algieri lost.  He had previously defeated strong contenders Mike Arnaoutis and Emanuel Taylor on the way to his world title.
The 26-year-old Bone has fought in the U.S. since 2014 and began his career stateside with victories over Francisco Figueroa, Mahonri Montes and Peter Oluoch. Born in Manabi, Ecuador, Bone won the first 12 bouts of his career. Most recently he lost to former world champion Shawn Porter after taking over as a late replacement for Porter’s opponent.
