BOXING’S TOP WOMEN TO HONOR KATHY DUVA WITH “RAGING BABE LUMINARY” AWARD AT RAGING BABE BRUNCH, NEW YORK, NEW YORK

NEW YORK – May 24, 2016 – The weekend of June 11th, boxing’s most influential women will gather for brunch in the Big Apple for the 7th Raging Babe event of its kind, dubbed New York, New York. Attendees will include promoters, network executives, public relations representatives, referees, fighters and others, and come from diverse backgrounds, cultures and levels of experience. Women who have attended Raging Babe events have networked, forged business and personal relationships and have been inspired by the stories of success and persistence shared by the hundreds of attendees over the past few years. There may be no woman that better personifies a story of success and persistence than Kathy Duva, who will be honored with the Raging Babe Luminary Award at the brunch.

Duva, the CEO of Main Events, and a mother of three, has been involved with boxing for nearly forty years, entering the business while in college with her then boyfriend Dan Duva. The Duvas teamed up to promote some of boxing’s top talent over the years under the Main Events banner, including Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Pernell Whitacker, Arturo Gatti and Fernando Vargas, all while cultivating powerful relationships with HBO and other networks. Kathy continued her husband’s legacy after his passing in 1996, becoming one of the most recognized figures in boxing. Most recently, Duva and Main Events have developed one of boxing’s most avoided superstars in Sergey Kovalev.

NEW YORK – May 11, 2016 – The Raging Babe Brunch continues to forge connections between women of diverse backgrounds, companies and areas of expertise, all sharing in common their connections to the Sweet Science. On June 11th, the heels of Raging Babes from across the East Coast and beyond, hit the pavement in the “Concrete Jungle,” New York, New York for the first New York eventin three years.

An intimate, exclusive affair, this spring’s Raging Babe Brunch, dubbed New York, New York will once again bring together boxing’s most influential women to network, and honor the sport’s trailblazers: those women who have broken the glass ceiling and transcended traditional gender roles in business, and in particular, in boxing.

The brunch shares June 11th with a Puerto Rican double-header at New York City boxing mecca, Madison Square Garden, along with the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. “I’m excited for the opportunity to celebrate both my heritage, and our seventh Raging Babe event,” said Raging Babe founder and namesake, Michelle Rosado, who is of Puerto Rican descent.

“These brunches are more than just women chatting and having breakfast during fight week,” said Rosado. “These are friendships, businesses connections and lifelong relationships beginning in a room full of encouraging and powerful women, drawing on and sharing their experiences, challenges and triumphs as women in the boxing industry.”

WBO Champion Amanda Serrano calls out IBF Champion Jennifer Han for a world title unification bout

On April 22, 2016, history was made in Puerto Rico’s professional boxing, when a female boxing match was the featured bout of the evening, held in the city of Trujillo Alto, where the four-time world champion in three divisions, Amanda ‘The Real Deal’ Serrano ( 28-1-1, 21 KO’s ) defeated the number 6th ranked, Edina ‘DNA’ Kiss of Budapest, Hungary by TKO in the fourth round.
Just a week later, IBF featherweight world champion, Jennifer Han of El Paso, Texas, was also in a main event match in front of her people from El Paso, and defeated Colombian, Calixta Silgado via unanimous decision in a ten round fight.
“I think the timing is perfect!” Amanda Serrano said, “We both come from recent fights, both of us scored victories and are uninjured and in great condition. Women’s boxing and our fans deserve to see who is the best featherweight in a unification bout”.
Han ( 14-3-1, 1 KO’s ) has fought her last four fights in her hometown of El Paso, Texas.
“It’s funny because a few weeks ago I had my first fight in Puerto Rico, and have fought in the United States, Switzerland, Argentina and Dominican Republic. True Champions often leave their comfort zone to prove they are the real deal in boxing. I’m always ready,” said Serrano, who is the current WBO featherweight World Champion.

Marston to Challenge Tshabalala for Her World Crown on July 2nd

Over the past week or so the World’s press have been focusing heavily on the recently announced 9th July Tyson Fury-Wladimir Klitschko WBO-WBA-IBO Unified Heavyweight Championships rematch. Quite rightly so, it’s a huge fight, however just one week earlier, an equally World significant unification bout is also set to take place right here in the United Kingdom.

 

On July 2nd, at the Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire, World #15 and British #1 ranked Marianne Marston will not only be challenging South Africa’s World Boxing Federation (WBFed) Super Bantamweight World Champion Gabisile Tshabalala for her coveted crown, but will also be aiming to secure the World Boxing Union (WBU), Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) and Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) World accolades.

 

London based Marston, who was originally due to challenge Unathi Myekeni for the Bantamweight version of the WBFed strap back in December, that was until Myekeni was forced to withdraw following a hand injury, is cleary relishing the belated opportunity, as she made clear when she spoke earlier.

 

“I cannot thank WBFed President Howard Goldberg enough for making this happen, like me he was so dissapointed when Unathi (Myekeni) pulled out injured last year.

 

In addition to Howard, I would also lke to thank WIBA President Ryan Wissow, WBU President Don Lewis and Sebastien Pitois from the UBO, as they have been so supportive throughout my career, so to also challenge for their Championships really is so special for me.

 

I’m forty two now, so honestly thought after Unathi pulled out, that’s it for me, I’ll never get the chance to fight for a World title, OK that’s not quite true, I could have fought for a vacant title, but to me that’s just not good enough, I want to fight the best, I want to beat the World Champion.

 

I’ve seen video of Gabisile, when she fought Shannon (O’Connell) in 2013, but would very much like to find any video of her when she won the World title last year. I know how much I have changed, fight wise, since 2013 so really want to see if there are any changes to her style or tactics.

 

From what I have seen, she’s a classy fighter, very quick hands. When she fought Shannon, she was mainly counter punching, which would suit me, but for some reason I have a feeling she will have a very different approach as a defending Champion.

 

Either way, this will be a great fight for the fans, there’s such a contrast in our styles and in my view it’s those differences in style and tactical approach that will make this such a great fight to watch.

 

British boxing is booming, we have so many World Champions at the moment, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Kell Brook, Carl Frampton, Lee Selby, Liam Smith, Jamie McDonnell, Lee Haskins, Tony Moran, Craig Docherty, Terry Flanagan, Anthony Crolla, James DeGale and of course my old gym mate at the TKO, Billy Joe Saunders.

 

Obviously they’re all men, so I want to redress the deficit a little and join them, as well as be the first British Female boxer to be crowned World Champion since Jane Couch beat Jaime Clampitt for the IWBF title in 2004.”

Amanda Serrano Sends an Ultimatum to All World Champions in her Division

New York – Two-time world champion,  Amanda ‘The Real Deal’ Serrano from Carolina, Puerto Rico, but now living in Brooklyn, will be fighting on February 17 in Manhatthan for the vacant WBO World female featherweight title against former world champion, Olivia Gerula of Canada.
The ambitious Puerto Rican lefty wants to become the undisputed world champion in the featherweight division, and has a message to the current title holders.
“Right now, I’m only focused on Olivia, but at the same time I’m very confident about bringing that belt to Brooklyn and Puerto Rico on February 17,” said Amanda Serrano, who is promoted by DiBella Entertainment.
“Once I get that beatiful belt, we will be looking to unify. There is Jennifer Han, who is the IBF world champion, Soledad Matthysse is the WBC and WBA champion, and she is fighting Jelena Mrdjenovich. I want the winner!”
“Unifying all four featherweight titles is the only thing we care about. If we fail to make that happen, I will go down to 122 to fight for another world title, and become a four division legitimate world champion just like Miguel Cotto”.
Serrano (26-1-1, 19 KO) vs. Gerula (17-15-2, 3KO) showdown will take place at the famed B.B. King Blues Club and Grill marking the first world title fight in the club’s history.
On August 15, 2014, Serrano traveled to Argentina to face WBO Lightweight World Champion Maria ‘Tily’ Maderna, who at that time, had three successful title defenses, but could not handle the aggressiveness of the Puerto Rican power puncher, and decided to give up in the sixth round.
Serrano’s first title reign came in September 2011, when she knocked out Kimberly Connor in the first round to become the IBF World Champion at the super featherweight division in a bout held in Brooklyn.

“THE HEAT” RETURNS TO BARCLAYS CENTER
ON JACOBS-QUILLIN UNDERCARD SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5TH
 
NEW YORK (November 10, 2015) – Earlier this summer, Visa announced its partnership with sports apparel company Under Armour for its online payment program and a new ad campaign, “Break It.” Commercials for the partnership have now started to roll out and none other than DiBella Entertainment’s “First Lady,” undefeated Brooklyn female super bantamweight Heather “The Heat” Hardy (14-0, 3KO’s) is being featured in the campaign ads.
Hardy, who returns to the ring on Saturday, December 5th, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, on the undercard of the eagerly anticipated world middleweight championship showdown between Daniel Jacobs and Peter Quillin, is in talks with the sportswear company to officially become part of the Under Armour Women’s team that includes such superstar athletes and female figures as Gisele Bundchen, Lindsey Vonn, Misty Copeland, Brianna Cope and Kelley O’Hara.
“It is an honor to be included in the “Break It” campaign alongside the likes of Billie Jean King and so many other great and inspirational female athletes,” said Hardy. “Like her, I am still a part of this fight, working to break the barrier that women in my sport fight both inside and outside of the ring, day after day. Hardy is quickly closing in on her first world title opportunity, but first she must take care of business against a familiar foe, Noemi Bosques (10-3-2, 2KO’s) when the undefeated female star steps into the ring on December 5, in what will be her fourth consecutive performance at Barclays Center. Hardy and Bosques fought at the Brooklyn arena in May, with Hardy winning an entertaining eight-round split decision. Hardy felt there was no question that she won the fight, and is out to prove there is no doubt who is the better fighter when the two meet again on the 5th.
“I hate doing rematches because it’s so redundant and I already beat you. It was a split decision though, so in her mind she feels like she can come back and beat me. I didn’t want to deny her that, because we put on a great show for the fans. People at the fight knew I won the fight and that it was a clear decisive win, but when people see ‘split decision’ there are always questions that arise because she is such a good legitimate fighter. I’m giving her another chance.”

Hillyard, Marston & Khan World Title Battles Co-Headline 6thDec London Event

London promoter Mark Lyons has joined forces with Championship campaigning Marianne Marston to co-promote a huge pre-Christmas event, aptly named LET BATTLE COMMENCE, at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, on Sunday, the  6th of December.

 

Heading up the fifteen-bout card are no less than three World Championship battles;

 

Bradford’s Tasif Khan makes his first foray onto the World stage, when he challenges Ghana’s Isaac Quaye for the World Boxing Union Super Flyweight Championship.

 

Reigning World Boxing Union Super Middleweight International Champion, Nazeing, Essex’s George ‘Hithard’ Hillyard aims to add the vacant WBU World crown to his collection, when he faces a yet to be named opponent.

 

Finally British #1 and reigning MBC International Super Bantamweight Champion Marianne Marston will go toe to toe with Hungary’s Csilla Nemedi in a four, WBU, WBF, WIBA & WIBC, Bantamweight World title unification bout.

 

Also on the Championship trail on this historic event will be a number of fast rising young stars.

 

Former Team GB star Iain ‘The Blessed One’ Weaver gets his first taste of professional Championship boxing, when he challenges a yet to be named opponent for the International Masters Super Featherweight title.

 

Bardney, Lincolnshire’s unbeaten prospect, Nathan ‘Nightmare’ Decastro also will be fighting for an International Masters Championship, albeit at Middleweight.

 

The final Championship bout will see reigning MBC International Welterweight Champion, Hackney’s Siar Ozgul, challenge for another International Crown, this time at Super Welterweight.

 

Supporting the six Championship bouts are nine bouts featuring the cream of local talent, including another reigning Champion, WBF Super Bantamweight Intercontinental supremo Paul Economides in a non-championship six rounder.

 

Joining Paul on the undercard is another well known Champ, former British and Commonwealth King, Michael Aldiss, who made his most welcome return to the ring back in October.

 

Another hugely popular recent returnee to the hallowed square ring, Super Middleweight Manzo Smith will also be in action, as will Rockin’ Robin Deakin, who will be seeking to add another win to his card, following his victory over Deniss Kornilovs back in August.

 

Unbeaten, big punching Cruiserweight prospect Daniel Mendez will be looking to add a third scalp to his belt on the night, as Adam Taylor seeks to get his career back on track when he faces off against a yet to be named opponent.

 

Back in August Marianne Marston, Shaunagh Brown and Sam Smith made history when they all fought on the same event at York Hall, as that was the first time that three female bouts took place on a pro event in the UK, well on the 6th December that record will get broken, as joining Marianne on the card will be former Big Brother star and multi title challenger Angel ‘The Entertainer’ McKenzie, British Masters Super Flyweight Champion and World Championship challenger Juliette Winter and making her most welcome return to the sport Jamie Johnson.

 

In addition to the top class boxing fayre, the event will also feature the first live performance by local singing star Stephan Dante, who will be performing her viral smash ‘Nails Did’, as well as further tracks from her soon to be released debut album.

 

To cram all this action in the doors will open at 2:30pm, with the first bout starting at 3pm.

48 AND STILL GREAT; GUINNESS WORLD RECORD HOLDER AND PHYSICAL MARVEL ALICIA ASHLEY GLOVES UP THURSDAY

ASHLEY TOPS LOADED FIGHT CARD AT AVIATOR IN BROOKLYN
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2015) – She is a dean at the Bernard Hopkins School of Pugilism.
Alicia Ashley, 48 years old, will attempt to win a world title, the WBC world female super bantamweight crown, on Thursday evening in Brooklyn, and if she is successful, she will be honored with another incredible addition to her resume. She will gain another entry into the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest female to win a world title, setting an even higher bar with her incredible longevity and durability.
The attempt will take place on another “Brooklyn Brawl” card promoted by Dmitriy Salita, and Ashley will be paired off with Christina McMahon, on a slate running at the Aviator complex in south Brooklyn.
 Ashley sports a 22-10-1 (4 KOs) record, and shared some of what makes her tick, and continue to persevere past a point where even the sturdiest pugilists hang up the mitts.

“I feel I’ve had an illustrious career in boxing that sadly is not reflected monetarily,” Ashley said. “I’m a four time world champion and have been in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest female boxing champion. I’ve fought all over the world and have garnered respect wherever and whenever I fight. For me, boxing is a performance and I always do my best to entertain.”

Salita said that he expects she will do just that. “We are honored to have such a superior athlete and role model topping this fine card,” he said. “Alicia is someone men, women and children can look up to, someone who has so many great qualities, as an athlete and a person.”

Ashley fights for love of craft, and works on her skills after putting in a days work. “My main job is a personal and boxing trainer at Gleason’s Gym,” she continued. “I live in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn with my husband Matthieu, who I met at the gym six years ago.”

And what she does she think of the lady who will try and take her down a peg Thursday night?

“Christina McMahon is an undefeated fighter who has gone in someone else’s back yard and won a title. She will be a formidable opponent who will come to fight and that is perfect for my slick style. I’m a long distance fighter and predict that I will come away with a unanimous decision win.”
