Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame and Claridge Hotel looking to bring boxing back to the boardwalk

Atlantic City, NJ (February 1, 2016) – The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame is proud to announce it’s alliance with with the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ that will constitute bringing 6 events to the Historic Hotel in 2016.

Four of the events will be fight nights promoted by Rising Promotions, in the Celebrity Theatre venue with the first event being held on Saturday March 19, 2016

Two other major events are being planned which includes the inaugural induction class set for this fall as well as signature events that will appeal to boxing fans around the world.

The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame has assisted various promoters over the past two years in securing events and venues and will continue it’s effort to restore the shore community to being a mecca and destination for future boxing events.

Detroit has a history of producing some of the best boxers and trainers in the sport, and the fight-world spotlight will be shining on the motor city again this coming weekend with the “Detroit Brawl.”
The professional boxing series showcases fighters from around the world to compete in Detroit at the Masonic Temple on Feb. 6. Three of the local boxers involved in the event dropped by Fox2 Sunday morning to preview the event.

IMMOKALEE, FL. (February 1, 2016) – Rising star Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin(14-0, 10 KOs) defeated Mexican brawler Jose De Jesus Macias (18-5-2, 9 KOs) in his first main event Sunday night on Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Roundon Bounce TV from a sold out Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee in Immokalee, Florida.
Lubin, of Orlando, showed superior skills by using his quick hands and combination punching to offset Macias’ come-forward style. In round five, Lubin scored a knockdown when he landed a cuffing right hook that forced Macias to touch the canvas with his glove.
The fast rising 20-year-old landed the harder blows and was looking to stop his opponent inside the distance. Macias continued to fight aggressively throughout the contest and he was able to survive and push Lubin to 10-rounds for the first time in his career.
Lubin remained perfect as a professional by scores of 99-90 and 100-89 twice.
In a battle of southpaw welterweights, Florida’s Joseph Elegele (15-3, 11 KOs) stoppedAlex De Jesus (21-1, 13 KOs) in the sixth round of their scheduled eight-round affair.
Elegele brought the pressure early, hurting De Jesus with an overhand left in round two before he put his opponent on the canvas in round three with a brilliant combination on the ropes. The knockdown came at the end of the round and clearly dazed De Jesus, who walked to the wrong corner after the bell.
A hard left hand punctuated another combination that closed the show for Elegele in round six. The fight was called off by referee James Warring 56 seconds into the round. De Jesus was taken to North Collier Hospital after the fight as a precaution.
In the opening bout, featherweight prospect Dennis Galarza (12-1, 8 KOs) cruised to a unanimous decision over Ghana’s Samual Amaoko (21-6, 15 KOs) in their eight-round bout.
Galarza outclassed Amaoko in every facet, winning each round on his way to his seventh straight win. The more active and accurate fighter, Galarza was rewarded with scores of 80-72 on all three judges’ scorecards.

ERICKSON LUBIN
“He was a very awkward fighter with a herky -jerky style. He took a lot of blows and a lot of good blows. In the end I was able to come out with the victory.
“He was tougher than I thought. It was a little different than most of my fights but it’s good experience. I’m happy to get 10 rounds in.
“I just want to keep moving on from here and moving forward. I want to move up the ladder.”
JOSE DE JESUS MACIAS
“He was a strong fighter and he moved very well. I was able to handle everything he had and I thought I was in the fight.
“He has a lot of power. He’s not the best guy I’ve faced but he did enough to get the win tonight.”
JOSEPH ELEGELE
“I felt good out there. I did my thing. I told everybody that I was going to stop this guy and that’s what I did.
“I doubled my left hand and I knew I hurt him. He couldn’t take any more shots so I finished him.
“I want to fight someone in the top 15. I want to compete with the best. It’s my time.”
DENNIS GALARZA
“My opponent was very tough. We fought eight hard rounds with a veteran.
“I wanted to get him out of there but we stayed patient and stuck to the game plan. I’m getting better every time out there.
“It’s my second time going eight rounds and soon I’ll be ready for ten rounds anyone that wants to get in there with me.
SAMUEL AMAOKO
“I went out and gave it my all. I thought it was closer and that I was landing some shots with more power.
“He is a very good fighter but I fought well and tried to get the win.”

Former Cruiserweight world champion Imamu Mayfield primed for comeback after 8-year hiatus

Freehold, NJ (January 29, 2016) – Almost 19 years-ago, a 24 year-old Imamu Mayfield climbed to the top of the boxing’s mountain when he won the the IBF Cruiserweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Uriah Grant in Las Vegas.

That bout took place on a big show that was headlined by the rematch that saw Evander Holyfield defeat Michael Moorer.
Mayfied would make once defense before being stopped by Arthur Williams.  Mayfield would go on to have some success by winning the USBA Cruiserweight title, but all and all he was just 7-7-2 since losing the title which includes losing his last three bouts (two to future world champions Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and Alexander Povetkin).
That was in 2008, fast forward 8-years and the now 43 year-old native of Freehold, New Jersey is planning a comeback.
“I own a gym and have been training fighters for the most part,” said the well-spoken Mayfield.
“After being away from the ring, I feel now that the time is right.  I have had enough time to realize this is what I want to do.  Now I am back with the people who started with me and took me to the title.”
“Those people are manager Vinny LaManna and trainer Charles Johnson.”
“Imamu and I have had great success together, when Mayfield and I got together it was from the untimely death of his longtime trainer manager Curtis Ford,”stated manger Vinny LaManna.
“Curtis did all the work, I just happened to have the relationship with then power house promoter Don King.  I take no credit for any of Curtis great efforts , and it’s a shame Curtis couldn’t see all of his hard work that came together when the opportunity presented itself. I have always believed in Imamu’s skills , I truly believe he will be a force in the cruiser or heavyweight division.”
There were various times in the last 8 years that Mayfield was close to returning, but the timing just wasn’t right.
“I reached out through the years to make a comeback, but I could not make it happen.  Different people inquired, but now I am back with the people who I trust and am Comfortable with.”
“I could have continued in 2008, but I wasn’t taking the right fights for the right reasons.  I was being used as a steppingstone and I felt I was better than that.”
Mayfield is now fighting for different reasons.
“I am fighting for the love of boxing and want to get back to the position of being on top of the mountain.”
Towards the end of his career, Mayfield fluctuated between Cruiserweight and Heavyweight.  In his time off, he has stayed in good shape and he does not see a lot of time before he is a Cruiserweight contender again.
“I am at 230 pounds now.  When I fight in a couple months, I should be about 220.  With each passing fight, I am going to work my way down to 200.”
While he shrinks down in weight, Mayfield sees a lot of growth in the sport that he left nearly a decade ago.
“There has been a lot of good in boxing.  The sport is on the upswing.  The Cruiserweight division looks competitive and I can compete with those guys.  If I truly did not believe that, I would not be doing this.  I still have the skills, but now I have the wisdom.  My body is pretty preserved and I think I have a good shot at getting the Apple.”
“I am looking forward to getting back in there.  I have always had a good fan base and a good team.  Before, i would have to travel two or three hours to just train.  Now I have my own gym.  It isn’t only me, but my wife and family love this idea of me trying to do some great things in boxing and become world champion again.”

“THE GHOST”  REMAINS HIGHEST VIEWED TV FIGHTER IN BOXING

GILROY, CA (January 29, 2016) – With the PBC (Premier Boxing Championships) debuting boxing back on NBC and FOX,  Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (33-4-1, 18 KOs) remains the highest viewed TV fighter in the sport.  In fact, Guerrero’s fights with Keith “One Time” Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and Danny “Swift” Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) are two of the most watched boxing matches in the last 17 years.
In March of 2015, Thurman vs. Guerrero on NBC peaked at 4.2 million viewers, making it the most viewed fight telecast since 1998 when Oscar De La Hoya fought on the FOX network.  This past weekend, Garcia vs. Guerreroon FOX peaked at 3.5 million viewers, making Guerrero the most watched fighter in boxing.
Known for bringing excitement to the ring, Robert Guerrero is your modern day gladiator.  His fights are never boring and his relentless attack is what makes boxing appealing to the average sports fan.  His tenacity and aggressiveness translates to great television.

Central New England (Greater Lowell) 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship Semifinals round results from Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. (January 29, 2016) – For the second week in a row all 13 matches went the three-round distance in last night’s Central New England (Greater Lowell) semifinals round of the 70th annual Lowell Sun Charities Golden Gloves Championship, featuring open and novice class action, at historic Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Returning New England welterweight champion Xavier Vega, representing Canal Street Boxing in Lawrence (MA), was a 4-1 winner against Michael Fontenez, of Nashua, NH.
Peter Welch’s Gym in South Boston led the hit parade with three winners, all in the novice class: lightweight Jonathan Depina, welterweight Lipi Fernandes and middleweight Brian Lawrence.  The Lowell West End Gym was the only other with more than one winner last night, both in the open class, lightweight Brandon Higgins and light welterweight Jeremiah Perez.
The CNE championship finals, featuring open and novice class matches, will be held next Thursday night (Feb. 4) at Lowell Memorial Auditorium.  See the remaining 2016 schedule below as well as last night’s results.

Boxing’s Return after Almost 20 Years Overwhelming Success
Los Angeles – Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) brought championship boxing back to FOX in prime timeSaturday night after an almost 20-year absence and delivered a resounding ratings knockout. The PBC on FOX, headlined by an intense 12-round battle for the vacant welterweight title between victor Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero, delivered PBC’s best audience since April 2015.
Fueled by three exciting bouts, the PBC on FOX averaged a 1.5/3 household rating/share with 2.5 million viewers from 8:00 – 10:37 PM ET, according to Nielsen, +36% in rating and +39% in audience compared to PBC’s last primetime telecast (1.1/2, 1.8 million viewers on NBC, 12/12/15).
Ratings and viewership built throughout the evening’s broadcast. FOX’s first bout featuring a hard-hitting heavyweight bout between Dominic Breazeale and Amir Mansour delivered a 1.3/2 with 2.2 million viewers, while ratings increased slightly for Sammy Vasquez’s TKO win over Aron Martinez with a 1.4/2, with 2.2 million viewers. Ratings then jumped for Danny Garcia’s spirited win vs. Robert Guerrero by unanimous decision that averaged a 1.8/3 with 3.0 million viewers.
                                                                                          
Additional Highlights
 
              ·        The PBC on FOX ranks as the most-watched PBC event on any network since
          April 11, 2015 on NBC (2.9 million).
     ·        Ties as PBC’s highest-rated event among Adults 18-49 since its broadcast premiere           on March 7, 2015.
·        The fight card peaked at the end of the main-event between Garcia and Guerrero         with 3.5 million viewers from 10:15-10:30pm, to tie as the second-best peak                   audience for a PBC event since its broadcast premiere.
·        An estimated 6.2 million viewers watched all or part of Saturday night’s fight card.

Dyah Davis returns to the ring this Sunday as he takes on Edgar Perez at the Seminole Casino Immokalee

 Dyah Davis, “My Father’s spirit lives in me”
IMMOKALEE, FL. (January 28, 2016) – It has been about a month since Howard Davis Jr. passed away.
The former Olympic star and professional was one of the most well liked people in the boxing community.  During the process of Davis falling ill, his son Dyah was by his side and he now vows to carry on the boxing legacy set forth by his father.
Davis of Coconut Creek, Florida will be back in the ring for the first time in a 17 months, will take on Edgar Perez on Sunday at the Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee.
Davis has been trying to get back in the ring sooner, but could not find anyone to step up and fight him.
“I was trying to get fights and I always am decent shape,”said the 34 year-old Davis.
“I guess that I am too much trouble for contenders and too dangerous for prospects.  I guess that means I am high risk and no reward.”
When his father passed away on December 30, 2015, Davis began to get even more motivated about his career.
“I found my motivation with the passing of my father.  His legacy will continue on through me.  His spirit is in me.  My father was my best friend.  He always knew that I have the ability and now it is time to show the world that.”
With a possible fight on the horizon and his father living out his last days, Davis made the most of his time with Howard.
“My main objective in his last few weeks was to spend as much time as possible.  We didn’t talk too much boxing.  We watched some of his old tapes as we just saw the impact he made on so many people.  It made me feel great to see the people who reached out following his passing.  Lots of people reached out in so many ways.”
Dyah feels he has a new start in boxing as he has inked a deal with Marshall Kauffman’s King’s Promotions.

Davis – Perez is part of the undercard of a great night of boxing that will be showcased on PBC: The Next Round on Bounce TV.  The telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT and is headlined by undefeated rising star Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin taking on Mexican brawler Jose De Jesus Macias in a 10-round super welterweight battle while welterweights Alex “El Pollo” De Jesus and Joseph Elegele meet in an eight-round showdown.

Rite Hook Promotions presents “Valentines Massacre” February 13!

Biloxi, MS (January 27, 2016) – Rite Hook Promotions returns to the Hard Rock Casino for an exciting night of action Saturday, February 13 in Biloxi, MS.
Dubbed as “Valentines Massacre” tickets for this ten bout card start at $20 and are on sale at Ticketmaster and the Hard Rock Casino box office. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance as Rite Hook’s May 2 show was standing room only.
Topping the card is a six round cruiserweight showdown between Biloxi’s very own Mike “Concrete” Bissett and Houston, TX’s “Rocking” Rodney Moore. A big draw locally, the 31 year old Bissett faced notables Steve Bujaj, Milos Plantelic and 2012 US Olympian Michael Hunter. In August 2014, Bissett scored a career best victory over contender Nick Ianuzzi. Known for having an iron chin, Moore’s been stopped just once in 29 fights while battling countless contenders including Randy Griffin, Richard Hall, George Khalid Jones, Quantis Graves, Andrey Fedosov and Murat Gassiev.
The co-featured bout of the evening marks the return of unbeaten middleweight Bobby “The Prodigy” Bryant of Mississippi in an eight round matchup with hardcore veteran Louis Leija. Fighting for the first time since 2012, Bryant’s 15-0 with 9 wins by knockout. A boxer since he was 9, Bryant was a standout amateur and has big expectations as a pro. Hailing from San Antonio, TX, Leija’s pro career started eight months before Bryant was born. Leija, 21-15-1 (15 KO’s), faced boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, former champions Jesus Chavez and Derrick Gainer as well as Ben Tackie, Emanuel Augustus and 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist Yudel Jhonson.
Rite Hook’s very own Manny “Shake Em’ Up” Woods, 13-4-1 (5 KO’s), travels from Tampa, FL to challenge 41 fight veteran Aaron Anderson of Tennessee in a six round junior middleweight contest. A winner in three of his last four, Woods hope to move onto bigger fights with a victory.
In separate undercard matches, unbeaten Joey Bryant of Memphis, TN, Justin Pauldo of Orlando, FL, Birmingham, AL’s Keandre Leatherwood and Atlanta, GA’s Justin Brunetti will all face opponents to be named.
