Salita’s ‘Detroit Brawl’ Returns on Saturday, November 12, at Historic Masonic Temple

On Saturday, November 12, once again at the iconic Masonic Temple in Downtown Detroit, Dmitriy Salita and Salita Promotions will host the latest installment of the “Detroit Brawl” series of shows.
Already a favorite with Motown’s boxing fans, this Detroit Brawl will feature several series alums including James Gordon Smith, Jarico O’Quinn, Serdar Hudayberdiyev, Dorell Van Horn Jr., and Alexey Zubov.
Once again sponsored by Thomas Magee’s Sporting House Whiskey Bar, tickets for “Detroit Brawl” will be priced at VIP $123, Balcony $100, Ringside $93, $63, $38, and $28 and available at all Ticketmaster outlets and Tickmaster.com.
26-year-old bantamweight James Gordon Smith (10-0, 6 KOs) of Detroit was last seen at a previous Detroit Brawl, on May 14 of this year, going to electrifying war against Mexico’s tough Pablo Cupul. Smith won a unanimous six-round decision and the hearts of the fans with his thrilling back-and-forth victory.
21-year-old bantamweight Jarico O’Quinn (3-0, 2 KOs) of Detroit was last in the ring on August 6 in Temecula, California, winning a unanimous four-round decision over local product Johnathan Quiroz on CBS Sports Network.
29-year-old super welterweight Serdar Hudayberdiyev (3-0, 2 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York via Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, was last seen on July 16of this year at yet another Detroit Brawl, winning a four-round unanimous decision over formerly undefeated Steven Andrade.
28-year-old super middleweight Dorell Van Horn Jr. (9-1, 6 KOs) of Detroit will be looking to rebound from suffering his first career loss in August of this year. Fighting on the undercard of a Showtime-televised event, Van Horn dropped an action-packed four-round unanimous decision to New York veteran Henry Beckford at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, New York.
29-year-old cruiserweight Alexey Zubov (12-1, 7 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York via Magnitogorsk, Russia, last fought in August was well. Zubov won a unanimous six-round decision over Eric George at the same Showtime show at Rhino’s Stadium.
“I am proud of The Detroit Brawl and the fighter development and action for the fans the series provides,” said Dmitriy Salita. “We have several popular fighters returning from Detroit and around the world and they’ll all be in tough fights to further their careers and keep the Detroit fans on the edge of their seats. More fights, opponents and rounds will be announced shortly. On fight night, doors open at 5:00 pm and the fights begin at 6:00 pm.

Chester, PA (September 28, 2016)–Philadelphia based junior welterweights David Gonzales and Samuel Teah will square off in an eight-round bout that will headline an eleven-bout card on Friday, November 11th at Harrahs Philadelphia.
The show is promoted by King’s Promotions.
The 26 year-old Gonzales has a record of 8-0-2 with two knockouts and in his last bout he won a six-round majority decision over Carlos Velasquez on June 12th in Lakeland, Florida
Teah has a record of 8-1-1 with two knockouts.  He won his first four bouts.  The 29 year-old, who was born in Liberia holds a win over previously undefeated O’Shaquie Foster (8-0) in a bout that was nationally televised on ShoBox: The New Generation.  In his last bout, Teah won a four-round unanimous decision on Samuel Amoako on August 6th in Bristol, PA.
In the eight-round co-feature, Kyrone Davis will fight Chris Fitzpatrick in a middleweight bout.
Davis of Wilmington, Delaware has a record of 10-1 with four knockouts.

The 21 year-old Davis won his first ten bouts, which was highlighted by a six-round unanimous decision over (now WBA number-five contender) Andrew Hernandez (10-2).  The two year-pro will look to get back in the win column after dropping an eight-round unanimous decision to Junior Castillo (9-0) on April 19thin Bethlehem, PA.
Fitzpatrick of Cleveland, Ohio has a record of 15-5 with six knockouts.  The 29 year-old is an eight-year professional who has a won his first fourteen bouts, which included a win over Scott Sigmon (16-2).  Fitzpatrick has also been in the ring with current WBA Middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs.  In his last bout, Fitzpatrick was stopped in three round to world-ranked undefeated contender Rob Brant on August 5th in Temecula, California.

Carlos Rosario ((5-1, 3 KO’s) of Pennsauken, NJ will fight Jerome Conquest(6-2,1 KO) of Philadelphia in a lightweight bout.

SANTA FE, NM (September 27, 2016) – Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas (17-3, 8 KOs) defeated his second straight unbeaten welterweight Tuesday night as he stopped Bryant Perrella(14-1, 13 KOs) in the fourth round on Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportesin the main event from Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Ugas defeated previously unbeaten Jamal James in August and dedicated this fight to his friend and fellow Cuban, Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, who tragically passed away Sundaymorning in Miami. Ugas was spectacular from the outset as his first overhand right of the night connected with Perrella and sent him to the canvas.
“The right hand was there early and all night long,” said Ugas. “I was able to land it from the beginning. Then I went to the body. Before I left my corner to start the fight, I said a prayer for Jose, and for sure that was my motivation. I felt his spirit throughout the fight.”
The taller Perrella attempted to control the fight with his jab and looked to land big left hands from the southpaw stance. Ugas was patient throughout the fight and kept his defense tight, never allowing Perrella to break through.
At the end of the third round Ugas landed another big right hand that pushed Perrella into the ropes and forced him into survival mode until the round ended. Perrella tried to get his attack going in the fourth round but Ugas was patiently waiting to deliver powerful counters with the right hand.
Another punishing right hand in the middle of the round sent Perrella hard to the mat and clearly dazed when he rose to his feet. Ugas sensed his moment and attacked Perrella, eventually stalking him into the corner. A final flurry from Ugas forced referee Rocky Burke to halt the bout 2:20 into the round.
“This shows that I’ve put all my losses behind me,” said Ugas. “It doesn’t matter who I fight next. I’m ready for anyone in the division.”
The co-main event saw Ryan “Cowboy” Karl (13-0, 9 KOs) earn a stoppage victory over Jose Quezada (11-1, 6 KOs) after four rounds of action in the super lightweight showdown. The fight was stopped by the ringside doctor after the end of the fourth round.
Karl established his power advantage early on as the two fighters went toe-to-toe but it was Karl who knocked Quezada to the canvas with a stunning right uppercut and a straight right hand that sent his opponent tumbling to the canvas.
Quezada looked to box against Karl and had his best moments in the third round when he began to land his left hook and throw more combinations. Despite taking a few good shots, Karl came out determined in round four and began landing his right hand at will.
The last minute of the round saw the Houston-based fighter landed a series of right hands that eventually began to swell the left eye of Quezada and sent him to the floor for the second time in the fight as the round ended. Quezada was able to get to his feet and return to his corner, but the ringside doctor had seen enough and called a halt to the bout.
The opening televised bout saw Phoenix’s Cesar Alan Valenzuela (13-4-1, 4 KOs) earn a split decision over previously once-beaten Dennis Galarza (13-2, 8 KOs) in their eight round super featherweight attraction.
From the opening bell both men were determined to establish their offense and they both had bright moments in the round. Galarza landed several right hands early but as the fight wore on, Valenzuela got into his offense and was able to keep Galarza going backwards.
Valenzuela also appeared to be the fresher fighter in the later rounds and he ended the bout with a 398-345 advantage in punches thrown and 136-93 in punches landed.
Valenzuela’s strongest round came in the final frame when he stunned Galarza with just over a minute left in the round, forcing his opponent to hold on to survive the eight-rounder. The final judges scores were 77-75 for Galarza and 77-75 twice for Valenzuela.

Erik Ruiz replaces Emmanuel Quartey vs Hanzel Martinez in Friday Night’s “Knockout Night at the D” main event

LAS VEGAS (September 27, 2016) – Veteran super bantamweight Erik Ruiz has replaced Ghanaian boxer Emmanuel Quartey, who was unable to secure a visa to enter the United States, in this Friday night’s 10-round main event versus Hanzel “Rude Boy” Martinez, headlining a strong “Knockout Night at the D” card, for the vacant World Boxing Association International super bantamweight title.
Airing live (11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT) on CBS Sports Network and internationally viaESPN (digital delay check local listings), “Knockout Night at the D” will be held outdoors under the neon lights at Downtown Las Vegas Events Center.
The “Knockout Night at the D” series, presented by the D Las Vegas and Downtown Las Vegas Events Center, is promoted by Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions.
Hall of Fame announcers Jim “J.R.” Ross and Al Bernstein will call all of the action from ringside with Sean Wheelock handling fighter interviews on CBS Sports Network and in English for ESPN internationally.
Martinez (23-2, 19 KOs), a former WBC United States bantamweight champion, fights out of Tijuana, Mexico.  Ruiz (15-5-1, 6 KOs) is coming off an impressive 10-round draw with 30-1 Horacio Garcia this past May in as Vegas.  He has a notable win over previously unbeaten (11-0-2) Roy Tapia also extended top prospects such as Jessie Magdaleno,Alexis Santiago and Manuel Avila the distance.
“We knew there were some issues with Quartey’s visa situation,” promoter Keith Veltresaid, “so we had Erik Ruiz on hold. It’s unfortunate but things like this happen in boxing and we’re fortunate to have such a quality opponent like Erik as a late replacement.  In fact, he’s fought much tougher opponents than Quartey. Hanzel has 18 knockouts in his 23 wins, but Ruiz has never been stopped as a professional.  We’re confident that the main event will be equally competitive and that fans will enjoy another great night of ‘Knockout Night at the D” boxing.”
In the 10-round co-feature event, Tony Lopez, Jr. (11-1, 4 KOs) takes on Stephon “Showstopper” Young (14-0-3, 6 KOs) for the vacant WBA North American Boxing Association (NABA) bantamweight title.
In the third title fight of the night, undefeated WBA-NABA USA super welterweight champion John “The Phenom” Vera (14-0, 9 KOs) makes his second title defense against Milorad “Micko” Zizic (12-1, 6 KOs) in an 8-round bout opening the televised segment of the card.
Also fighting on the undercard in 4-round bouts are Las Vegas  welterweight Jeremy “J-Flash” Nichols (5-0, 2 KOs) vs. Marquis Hawthorn (4-4, 1 KO), Las Vegas’ 18-year-old bantamweight Max “Baby Face” Ornelas (4-0, 2 KOs) vs. Mulapi “The African Mexican” Enjani (2-2-2, 1 KO), Las Vegas junior lightweight Sal Lopez (3-0) vs.Kenneth Taylor (2-0, 2 KOs), and Las Vegas junior lightweight Randy Moreno (4-0, 3 KOs) vs. Fabian Alaniz (1-0, 0 KOs).

In his last bout, Fox stopped Somner Martin in three rounds on August 19th in Washington, DC.
Rodriguez of Haymarket, Virginia has a record of 6-5-1 with five wins coming via stoppage.
The 26 year-old Rodriguez is an eight year professional and he won his first four fights.  He has a fifth round stoppage win over previously undefeated Nathaniel Rivas (5-0).
Fox will be Rodriguez’ fourth undefeated opponent.  Rodriguez is coming off a six-round unanimous decision defeat to Anthony Young (11-2) on April 29th in Atlantic City.

LAS VEGAS (September 26, 2016) – The fifth edition of”Battle Born Boxing” returns this Thursday night (Sept. 29), starting at 7 p.m. PT, at the outdoor Downtown Las Vegas Events Center.
“Battle Born Boxing” is an amateur boxing series created by Neon Star Media on behalf of its client, the D Las Vegas, to support amateur boxing in Nevada, as well as provide a platform for amateur boxers from other states to compete against local clubs and boxers.

BROOKLYN (September 26, 2016) – The Buffalo Veteran Boxers Association inducted Swanson Communications President Kelly Swanson into the Ring 44 Buffalo Boxing Hall of Fame on Friday, September 23 as part of its 20th class.
Swanson, along with five other new inductees, including Dave Moretti, Billy Tompkins, Dummy Burns, Stan Myka and Pete Tamalonis were honored at the organization’s annual dinner and awards ceremony at Ilio Dipaolo Restaurant in Blasdell, NY
“It is such an honor to be recognized by my hometown for my work in boxing over the last 20 years,” said Swanson, a North Buffalo-native who has worked in boxing for over two decades, representing some of the sport’s biggest names including Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins and Riddick Bowe.  “I am proud to be from the Queen City and thrilled to join an incredible class of inductees.
“Boxing is a sport of opportunity and it has opened so many doors for me. I have been privileged to with some of the best fighters and work on some of the biggest events the sport has witnessed over the course of these 20 years.  I don’t remember a time when I didn’t love boxing and I look forward to continuing to publicize and promote fighters and events for many years to come.”
“Congratulations to Kelly for her honor,” said Mayweather. “We’ve been together for a long time, more than 10 years, and I am happy she is being recognized for all of her great work.”
“There’s no woman in this game that has accomplished as much as Kelly,” said Hopkins. “She’s the top as far as publicists go and everyone knows it. I’ve been with her for 10 plus years and she always did her best and took her job seriously. Swanson not only works in boxing, but stays involved in the sport in her off time as well. She works out at the famed Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, blocks from her New York City office. She is also a board member for the gym’s “Give a Kid a Dream” program, which offers children from disadvantaged backgrounds a place to develop themselves physically and mentally through boxing.

Coming in 2017:  King’s Promotions presents THE GREAT EIGHT- 140 Pound Tournament

Reading, PA (September 26, 2016)–In 2017, King’s Promotions will present a double-elimination tournament that will feature some of the brightest prospects in the 140 pound division.
“The GREAT EIGHT–140 pound Tournament” will gain exposure to those young fighters who are willing to take a chance to catapult their career’s to the next level.
Applicants for the tournament must have double-digit wins and no more than two losses.
Besides the fight purses, there will be a prize of $15,000 for the winner, $10,000 for the runner-up and $5,000 for third place.
“We are looking for the next contenders and champions in the junior welterweight division,” said King’s Promotions CEO Marshall Kauffman.
“We already have several quality fighters that have expressed a big interest in entering.  We feel that there are a lot of fighters out there in this weight class that fit the criteria for what we are looking for and I am eager to hear from some of them.”

Linares decisions Crolla to win WBA/WBC Diamond/Ring Magazine Lightweight Titles

SAN DIEGO, CALIF.– Jorge Linares won a twelve round unanimous decision over Anthony Crolla to win the WBA/Ring Magazine and retain his WBC Diamond Lightweight titles at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

The bout, which took place this past Saturday, headlined a card that was broadcasted live all over the United States on AWE- A Wealth of Entertainment and streamed on www.klowdtv.com.

“The fight lived up to expectations and was a terrific contest,”said Charles Herring, President of AWE-A Wealth of Entertainment.
“This is another in the long line of great fights that have come to the network and we should be announcing some more great fights real soon.”

It was a tough grueling fight that saw Linares ump out to an early lead on the strength of his quick combinations and handspeed.

In round five, Linares was cut over his left eye. In round six, Crolla was starting to take charge of the bout with his work to the body and uppercuts inside, until Linares hurt Crolla badly with a right hand that wobbled the Manchester native on the ropes.

Both guys had their moments down the stretch as Linares, at times seemed like he was losing his stamina, only to come back with hard combinations and he was able to eek out rounds.

Linares of Venezuela won by scores of 117-111, 115-114 and 115-113 and is now 41-3. Crolla is now 31-5-3.

Jack Arnfield won a twelve round unanimous decision over John Ryder in a middleweight bout.

Arnfield won by scores of 117-114, 118-110 and 115-114 and is now 21-2. Ryder is 23-3.

Callum Johnson scored a 9th round stoppage over Wilbeforce Shihepo in a scheduled twelve round light heavyweight bout.

In round five, Shihepo was docked a point for holding. Shihepo kept holding and was deducted another point in round seven. Later in the round, Johnson dropped Shihepo with a body shot. Johnson finihed things with a huge right that dropped Shiphepo in the 9th round. Shihepo could not beat the count at 2:07.

Johnson is now 16-0 with 11 knockouts. Shiphepo of Namibia is 23-9.

Conor Benn remained undefeated by scoring a 6-round decision over Ross Jameson.

The score was 60-55 for Benn, who is now 5-0. Jameson is 1-2.

Hosea Burton scored two knockdowns in the 3rd round and stopped Fernando castaneda in the same round of their scheduled ten round light heavyweight bout.

The stoppage came at 2:18 of round three, for Burton, who is now 18-0 with nine knockouts. Casteneda is 24-11.
