LOS ANGELES (Novembre 29, 2018) – Fighters competing on Saturday’s PPV undercard headlined by the heavyweight championship showdown between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury went face-to-face on Thursday at the final press conference before they enter the ring on SHOWTIME PPV® from STAPLES Center in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
The PPV undercard begins at 9 p.m. ET / 6 pm. PT and features unified 154-pound world champion Jarrett Hurd defending against the U.K.’s Jason Welborn, Cuban heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz in a 10-round showdown against rugged veteranTravis Kauffman i pujant de pes pesat Joe Joyce tenint en Joe Hanks en una atracció de pes pesat de 10 assalts.

Jarrett Hurd
“Everything that my team and I have spoken about has come to pass. I’m here as the co-main of a massive card and I’m just really appreciative of everyone who believed in me and helped push me to this moment.
“Saturday night I want to show my versatility. Everyone has seen that I’m electrifying. I bring the action. But I want to show that I am swift and I do have defense. I know how to use my height and range. I’m still going to bring the action on Saturday, so you have to make sure to tune-in.
“We don’t think of Welborn as a tune-up fight. Jason Welborn is a British champion for a reason. We just want to go out there and establish the game plan we worked on in camp.
“I want to show my defensive side and show that I can box and move. I want to show that I don’t have to just keep coming forward. I’m going to be able to do that and start to break him down and get him out of there.
“Everybody sees my demeanor, and they know that I carry that to the ring. My composure is my biggest attribute. No importa el que diguin, I’m always going to be me.
“I’m number one in the division and things are going to play out how I want them. We’ve had three tough camps training for southpaws. “I’m back from my surgery and we’re going to get back to the old Jarrett Hurd. I’m going to show everyone all that I can do. Everyone knows that there’s always going to be action. It’s going to be a wonderful fight on a wonderful card. Don’t blink during this one.”
JASON WELBORN
“This is a dream come true to be here today. Hurd has worked his way up to get here just like I have. Ara, he’s in my way. I hope everyone enjoys what I bring to the table on Saturday night.
“I have the belief that I’m born and bred for this game and I’m going to show it to the whole world on Saturday night. I always prove people wrong.
“The last two years I’ve become the best in Britain and beaten everyone they put in front of me. When people doubt me, I train even harder. I’m coming to win and I’ve got nothing to lose.
“I have to get what I deserve and I’ll do it on Saturday night. I’ve already been through the storm. He’s got what I want.
“I’ve got to enjoy the fight and get what I want. He can look past me all he wants, but once he feels what I bring to the table, we’ll see how he reacts. I’m ready for whatever he’s going to bring to the table.”
LUIS ORTIZ
“I want to thank everyone who has helped me get this opportunity. M'agrada parlar al ring, but I’m happy that Travis Kauffman stepped up. A lot of heavyweights haven’t done that and I’m glad we can make this fight happen.
“I’m coming to do my job. This is a heavyweight fight and we know that means one punch can change everything. It’s not going to end well for Travis on Saturday night.

TRAVIS KAUFFMAN
“I’m thankful to Luis Ortiz for taking this fight. Everybody is afraid to fight him, but I’m not afraid of anyone. We all know that Luis Ortiz can punch, but I don’t care about any of that. It’s my time. I come from a rough background and I won’t back down.

“Training in Big Bear has been a perfect environment for me. It’s in the mountains, it has the altitude and it’s secluded. I’ve seen what goes into their training camps and worked alongside the best in the world. They’ve helped me install the kind of style that will have me at my best.
“I have the Olympic pedigree, but now it’s about advancing the brute strength and really getting the perfect snap on my shots.
“Sparring against Tyson Fury was really top-level work. I know that it’s made me a better fighter. He’s looking fit and strong and it shows when you’re in the ring with him.

“I’ve put the time in and I’ve had everyone supporting me and pushing me and I think it’s going to get me over the hump. I’m just really excited to get in there.”

“When we talk about Jarrett Hurd, he’s a fighter who has seemingly come out of nowhere and has had an incredibly rapid rise to the top. He was not a decorated amateur. He has learned on the job. All he has done since beating Oscar Molina in 2016 is impress. He is recognized as one of the bright young stars in boxing. He has been off due to injury and certainly could have taken an easier fight than Jason Welborn, who is a British Commonwealth champion. We’re expecting an action fight there.
“Luis Ortiz is one of the top heavyweights in the world. He has one blemish on his otherwise perfect record, a loss to Deontay Wilder. Perhaps Ortiz was just seconds away from victory. We talk about a slim margin in fights, that was the slimmest of margins. I think he is going to be trying to make a statement on the undercard that he deserves a rematch against Deontay Wilder. Standing in his way will be Travis Kauffman. This is another all-action fight filled with big punchers.
“In our opening bout, we have one of the most talked-about rising young heavyweights in the sport – Joe Joyce, who is taking on a tough veteran in Joe Hanks. Some of the greatest heavyweight names in the history of boxing weighed-in on what will be the biggest heavyweight title fight in the U.S. since Mike Tyson took on Lennox Lewis in 2002. “Although Wilder’s punch is strong, nothing can compare to the mental strength Fury has shown both in and out of the ring. It’ll be a close call, but I think Fury’s got a true fighting chance.”

 

EVANDER HOLYFIELD:

I think he’s a remarkable self-promoter, and he did a great job with Wladimir Klitschko, using his feints and throwing Klitschko off his game plan. Deontay is a different kind of fighter, encara que. JOE MESI: “Tinc tanta gent per agrair aquest honor. Sóc buffalonià. No hi ha ningú més a favor d’una Nova York, però no ho és. Això és especial per a mi perquè és el Saló de la Fama de la Boxa de l’Estat de Nova York. Això em solidifica i em fa pensar que no sóc un noi local. Hi havia un desavantatge enorme provinent d’una ciutat petita, el sparring no era el mateix que als gimnasos de la ciutat de Nova York, però tenia un avantatge de l’oest de Nova York. Ningú no sortia bé com ho vam fer a Buffalo amb 10,000, llavors 16,00 i finalment 18,000 gent. Sempre estaven darrere meu i ho comparteixo amb ells perquè el seu suport em va fer. El meu somni era lluitar a Buffalo i continuar lluitant allà.
“Un dels aspectes més destacats de la meva vida va ser lluitar contra Monte Barrett a HBO al Madison Square Garden. Va ser un dels millors lluitadors del món que va lluitar pel títol mundial. Sempre he volgut aconseguir el títol mundial, però mai ho vaig aconseguir. Està bé, Vaig estar una mica amarga durant un temps, però no podria ser més feliç amb la meva carrera. La millor part de la boxa és la germanor que compartim.

RON SCOTT STEVENS: “Sé que la gent sempre ho diu, però aquesta és la veritat: Debo tanta gent que m’ha donat suport al llarg de la meva carrera. La boxa sempre ha estat a casa fora de casa i avui em sento com a casa.
“Jo era 30, que viu a Brooklyn Heights, i tornant conduint un taxi i esperant sobre taules. Una llum em va apagar al cap: la boxa és l’esport dels menuts i sóc un menystingut. L’endemà vaig anar al gimnàs de Gleason – el centre de l'univers. Vaig recórrer tots els gimnasos de la ciutat, promotors de reunions, directius i formadors. Vaig començar a fer partits per a promotors i després em va contractar Cedric Kushner 1980-2002. En 2002, Em van trucar per treballar per a la Comissió Atlètica de l’Estat de Nova York com a coordinador comunitari i director de boxa. Llavors, Em van nomenar president i vaig complir dos mandats. Avui, Estic extremadament orgullós de formar part del Saló de la Fama de la Boxa de l’Estat de Nova York.

BOB GOODMAN: “No puc creure aquesta multitud. Per fer el que fem, els sacrificis i el suport que rebeu de la vostra família són tan importants i (en el cas de Goodman) va ser durant tants anys. Ens van permetre fer el que fem. A tots ens encanta la boxa!”

A EL COLE: “Vaig pensar que la boxa era l’esport més estúpid i ximple de la història. Qui volia rebre cops de puny a la cara? Vaig començar a boxar tard. Vaig jugar amb alguns i la gent va dir que era bastant bo. Vaig començar a boxar quan era 20, a l'exèrcit, estacionat a Ft. Caputxa. Quatre anys després, Jo estava a l’equip olímpic. El motiu pel qual he tingut una gran parella de combat, Ray Mercer. Si anés a participar tots els dies amb el Ray, Tampoc anava a ser apallissat, o millorar.
“Recordo que Bob Arum em va donar la seva targeta de presentació. No el coneixia. Només coneixia tres persones a la boxa: Don King, Muhammad Ali i Sugar Ray Leonard. No seguia la boxa i l’única raó per la qual era la boxa era que hauria hagut de dormir al bosc si no ho fes (a l'exèrcit). La boxa és: pega-li, abans que em pegui.”

PETE BRODSKY: “Vull donar les gràcies a la junta. Jo ho seré 70 i vaig començar a la boxa quan era jo 18. Va crear una nova direcció a la meva vida. Estic molt orgullós d’estar en companyia de nois que no només ho parlaven, els va encantar. Si realment us agrada aquest esport, realment l’has d’aprendre. Qualsevol home que entrés al ring, a més de tota la feina, temps al gimnàs i sacrificant el que mengen, ho va fer per ser el millor que poden ser.
“A la boxa, no guanyaràs tots els combats, però si guanya o perd un lluitador, si dóna el 100 per cent, és un guanyador. Treballen una feina, córrer cinc milles al dia, entrenament al gimnàs, i després se’n va anar a casa a passar temps amb la seva família. Els amics i la família sempre tenen l’esquena.”

NOVA YORK (Març 26, 2018) – Salvadors de boxa Bob Goodman i el seu pare, la tarda Murray Goodman, són entre 23 membres de la classe de 2018 sent ingressat al Saló de la Fama de la Boxa de l’Estat de Nova York (NYSBHOF) a Diumenge tarda (12:30-5:30 p.m. I), Abril 29.
El setè sopar anual d’inducció al NYSBHOF se celebrarà un any més a Russo’s On The Bay a Howard Beach, Nova York.
Un llegendari publicista de boxa, Murray Goodman (Bronx) va portar el seu fill a la dolça ciència quan Bob només tenia vuit anys. La resta va ser històrica per als Goodmans, els dos són ingressats en diversos salons de la fama, incloent el Saló Internacional de la Fama de la Boxa.
“Aquest és un gran honor per a mi i per al meu pare,” Va dir Bob. “M’agradaria que fos viu avui per ser-hi. Sóc un boxador. Tenia vuit anys anant a tots els camps d’entrenament amb el meu pare, que va ser escriptor de boxa i editor esportiu de l’INS (Servei de Notícies Hearst) servei. M’aixecava per córrer amb els boxadors i tenia l’oportunitat d’estar al voltant dels meus herois. També vaig conèixer entrenadors i altres entrenadors de boxa i aficionats posteriors. Vaig conèixer a tothom. Em van criar a la boxa, tota la meva vida va ser la boxa, 65 anys al negoci.”
Bob ho és, potser, més conegut com a vicepresident i aparellador de Madison Square Garden (1985-1994), així com un quart de segle exercint de vicepresident d’operacions de boxa, Matchmaker i director de relacions públiques de Don King Productions. També va ascendir a molts campions del món com a president de la seva pròpia empresa, Boxa Garden State.
“Recordo haver anat a campaments d’entrenament setmanes cada vegada,” va recordar amb afecte el Goodman, de 78 anys. “Faria fotos, escriure històries cada dia i utilitzar la meva telecopiadora per enviar-les a AP i UPI. Vaig fer tant per criar-me al negoci, fins i tot carregant camions amb cadires, l'anell, altaveus i molt més. Un dels premis amb què estic més orgullós és el James J.. Premi Walker Memorial al servei llarg i meritori de la boxa (BWAA a 1960).
“Tinc la sort d’haver transcendit diverses èpoques de la boxa. Aleshores era un món diferent, vam tenir 20-30 els escriptors es queden setmanes als camps d’entrenament. Vaig conèixer boxadors i entrenadors antics.”

Goodman, que va servir als EUA. Guardacostes de 1958-62, es manté actiu avui treballant amb veterans’ grups. Houston’s Historic George Foreman Youth and Community Center to Host 2016 Gulf Boxing Association Regional Championships

Premier event – Gulf LBC selects team to travel to USA BOXING Elite National Championships in conjunction with the Selection and Announcement of the First Inaugural George Foreman Youth and Community Center Elite International Travel Team!!
HOUSTON, TX (Octubre 10, 2016) -Starting with the ring of the bell on October 22nd, local area boxers will be fighting for a spot to represent the Gulf Coast Region al EUA Campionat Nacional de Boxa & a International Travel.
Weight categories will include: Pee Wee 8-9, Bantam 10-11, Intermediate 12-13, Juniors 14-15, Youth 15-16, & Elit 18-40 in both Open and Novice divisions. Winners will represent the Gulf area at the 2016 USA Boxing Elite, Youth and Junior National Championships to be held in Kansas City Missouri Desembre 4-10, 2016. This tournament is a sanctioned event through USA Boxing the National Governing Body of Amateur Boxing and is a feeder to National and Olympic recognition.
La George Foreman Youth and Community Center was founded 32 years ago in 1984 by Olympic Gold Medalist and 2-time heavy weight champion George Foreman. The GFYCC is dedicated to providing a safe and secure location for youth to participate in sports and after school activities.
“This year for the first time in Houston boxing history, we are developing an elite international youth boxing team,” said George Foreman, IV. “The team will be selected for the sole purpose of training and traveling to other countries to gain experience on an international platform and promote cultural diplomacy! Utilizing grant and donor funding this team will be representing the George Foreman Youth and Community Center and will be announced Saturday October 22, at the Gulf Region’s Boxing Championship. The team will be reviewed by my father, 1968 Olympic Gold Medalist and 2-Time Heavyweight Champion, George Foreman Sr. The first international trip for this new Houston team is scheduled for Jan. 2017.”
Doors open for the Gulf Gloves Championships on Saturday October 22nd at 11:00 sóc with announcements and the presentation of the colors by the United States Army Houston Recruiting Command Baytown Beaumont Company at 12:45 pm. The national anthem will be performed by the internationally acclaimed Houston Brass Quintet! Boxing començarà a les 1:00 pm. Championship finals will begin at 1:00 pm a Sunday October 23rd.

We’re in an era now where we have to fight each other. There’s never been an era when the best don’t fight the best at heavyweight — but they have to happen at the right time, and they will.

 

“We are all world champions as we hold all the belts that are available. We’re all talented. Deontay has defended his title multiple times so you have to give him credit for that. Tyson and I haven’t defended yet, so I put Deontay at the top. But Tyson beat Wladimir Klitschko who reigned for such a long time.

 

“I am happy because I became a world champion in my 16th fight and they won theirs later in their careers. But Tyson beat the main man in the division, and Deontay has defended his belt lots of times, so I am in third right now, but I am building my way up.

 

“Put the belts to one side, they don’t give you magical powers. A lot of fighters lose their belt in their first defense. It’s about developing your raw talent and making sure you keep on an upward curve because there’s hungry young challengers snapping at your heels all the time, ready to expose you – and I refuse that to happen to me.”

 

On Charles Martin:

On Tyson Fury:

“David is running the show and people know it, so when he goes in against soft opponents, he’s putting his neck on the line to get the stick. Fans expect more from him and he’s not meeting those levels, and that’s where the backlash comes from. The people he’s calling out versus the two guys he has fought, they just don’t add up, and that’s what people are frustrated about.

 

“I don’t think you can knock the Shannon Briggs fight. He’s made a lot of noise, he’s old school and it’s a good fight for David to take, win and move upwards. Shannon had made noise and he’s got his moment and who knows? Maybe he can shock the world. He’s old, but he trains hard and he’s in great condition, and that’s why people love the heavyweights because it’s that one shot.

 

“A fight with Fury and I is the biggest fight in British boxing in my opinion. The Haye fight is big too; there’s enough media interest for it to be big. It’s already big and we’re not even fighting yet, so imagine how big it would be once we get in there. It’d be unbelievable and that’s why I am so interested in the fights.”

 

DOMINIC Breazeale:

“I plan on putting on some extreme pressure and taking Joshua to places he’s never been. We’ll find out if he can handle it.

It makes you understand as an athlete or as a professional boxer that you’ve got punching power, you just broke another man’s jaw.’’

 

On returning to London after the 2012 Jocs Olímpics:

“I think it’s going to beautiful. It’s going to be great to go back to where my amateur career ended and beat the guy who won the gold medal. That’s going to be great. I llavors, on top of that, take away more hardware with the IBF Heavyweight title. You couldn’t ask for anything better.

I would consider myself a knockout artist with some pretty good punching power and that’s what I plan on showing the UK fans and my U.S. following. It’s a chapter that needs to be closed and I plan on doing that.’’

 

On the state of the heavyweight division:

“I believe that we’ve got a lot of heavyweights who are doing real well and are real successful in their situations, some being titleholders, some not. But I think it’s going to be a revolving circle. Me fighting Anthony Joshua, then going on to Deontay and Fury, Wladimir Klitschko might even hang around for a while. Will it ever be compared to the Ali days or Riddick Bowe and the Evander Holyfield days? No ho sé. Bowe and Holyfield had one great trilogy and I study it all the time. So it all depends on how much each fighter has left in him.’’

NOVA YORK (Juny 22, 2016) - Campió mundial de pes pesat del CMB invicte Deontay Wilder no es pot triar un guanyador clar aquest dissabte nit de Anthony Joshua-Dominic Breazeale enfrontament pel títol mundial.

L'invicte campió del món de pes pesat de la FIB Joshua (16-0, 16 KOs) farà la primera defensa del seu títol davant el seu company invicte Dominic Breazeale(17-0, 15 KOs) d'Upland, Qualif., a SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNACIONAL®des L'O2 a Londres, viure TEMPS DE LA FUNCIÓ® a 5:15 p.m. I/2:15 p.m. PT.
