Team Ortiz moves on from disputed draw Feeling Confident Undefeated Lightweight Jamaine Ortiz Made Loud Statement

WORCESTER, Massa. (Aprile 29, 2021) – Despite a disputed draw with unbeatenGiuseppe “Mani benedette” Adorno (14-0-2, 12 KO) last Saturday night in Kissimmee, Florida, lightweight prospectJamaine "The Technician" Ortiz (14-0-1, 8 KO) displayed his vast skills and courage on ESPN+.

Recovering from two knockdowns (the first from an illegal punch behind the head) and still taking the fight to the promoter’s fighter, Ortiz won six of the eight rounds but, per sfortuna, he had to settled for an 8-round majority draw with (76-74, 75-75-75) Adorno.

Ortiz, combattendo da Worcester, Massachusetts, is the reigning WBC USNBC (NOI.) Silver lightweight champion, as well as a former WBC World Youth lightweight titlist.

“I didn’t fight my fight,” Ortiz evaluated his performance. “I fought too much instead of being ‘The Technician.’ Before the fight, I thought I was the B-side fighter and wanted to please the crowd. I didn’t realize that I was on the A-side (thanks to his promoter, Jimmy Burchfield) and the betting favorite. I was fighting a Top Rank guy and felt that I had to bring the fight to him. Muscle memory, Credo, from back in the amateurs. I was fighting on his stage, so I put pressure on him. If the fight went the distance, I wanted to make sure the scoring was clear and obvious. I knew I’d break him down because I had better stamina and skills.

“I fought him too much, but I still thought I won the fight. The 76-74 score made sense. I won every round but the second and seventh (rounds of knockdowns).  I didn’t agree with the one judge who had him (Adorno) winning the sixth. He hit me behind the head in the third round and I was off balance. But the referee does his job and mine is to fight. Nothing I could do about it. The plan was to box him, going to the body, but not switch stances because it would expose me. I had to go to the body, always part of my plan, but I wasn’t ‘The Technician.’ Sometimes I switch stances without realizing it. I got clipped in the seventh round (uppercut that resulted in a standing 8 contare) when I was switching for first time. I handled it like a pro. I got up and felt good. I survived the round by holding a few times and then I came back again.”

Burchfield, head of Classic Sports and Entertainment (Amministratore delegato), knows Ortiz showed that he’s somebody lightweights will have to reckon with in the immediate future.

“Jamaine’s stock went up for the second fight in a row (last November he registered a sensational stoppage ofSulaiman Segawa (13-3-1, 4 KO), who had never been previously stopped, in seventh-round on the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones, Jr. pay-per-event),” Burchfield added. “Adorno is an animal when he’s in control of a fight. Jamaine had to take control of the fight by being the aggressor but, as ‘The Technician, knowing when to fight and when to box. The punch in the second round was, decisamente, behind the head, clearly a foul, and it was more of a slip than a knockdown because he was off balance. If that punch was disallowed, Jamaine wins the fight, even if he had lost the round. He (Emil Lombardi) is a quality ref who made a mistake. Maybe he didn’t catch it because of the angle he had, which is why I’m a firm believer in instant replay, and It would have been ruled a non-knockdown.

“Going into the seventh, I thought Jamaine led by 2-3 points having taken five of the previous six rounds. Jamaine showed the world his endurance when he came back so strong in the eighth round. If the fight had been 10-round, or even 30-sconds longer, no disrespect to Adorno, Jamaine would have knocked him out. Jamaine is the real deal. He certainly proved he’s TV friendly after his last two fights and he deserves to be mentioned among the top 135-pounders in the world. Any takers?"

Ortiz’ manager, Dick Shappy, had mixed emotions after the fight, understanding that Ortiz raised the bar, even though he fought to a draw.

“I wish he had won,” Shappy remarked, “but a draw wasn’t too bad under the circumstances. I though Jamaine won the fight outright. LAS VEGAS, NV (Marzo 10, 2020) - L' Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame announced its 2020 class of inductees today at the Fernando Vargas Fighting Foundation a Las Vegas. Inductees in attendance were, 2-Volte campione del mondo Fernando Vargas, 2-Volte campione del mondo, Bones Adams, WBC campione leggero, Devin Haney, who was voted Fighter of the Year, Prospect of the Year, Rolando Romero, e Saalim Gonzales, father of Amateur Fighter of the Year, Rahim Gonzales. Spinks è un campione del mondo in due divisioni, avendo tenuto il titolo indiscusso dei pesi massimi leggeri da 1983 a 1985, e il titolo lineare dei pesi massimi 1985 a 1988. È stato inserito nella International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994. Come dilettante ha vinto una medaglia d'oro nella divisione dei pesi medi al 1976 Olimpiadi estive.


Spinks è il fratello dell'ex campione del mondo dei pesi massimi Leon Spinks, e zio di Cory Spinks, un ex campione dei pesi medi welter e leggeri.

La resa dei conti del titolo dei pesi medi dello scorso fine settimana tra Canelo Alvarez e Daniel Jacobs ha visto anche l'annuale Box Fan Expo, tenutosi presso il Las Vegas Convention Center. Gli incredibili cimeli in mostra e l'azione di boxe amatoriale dal vivo hanno completato una serie di combattenti campioni del mondo passati e presenti disponibili per rapidi incontri e saluti.

Come appassionato di boxe per tutta la vita, è stato un peccato che ho avuto solo poco più di due ore da trascorrere all'evento prima di tornare alla T-Mobile Arena per l'inizio degli incontri undercard. Il tempo che ho potuto trascorrere è stato davvero piacevole. I prezzi erano ragionevoli per incontrare queste leggende fistic e avere qualche momento per parlare e scattare foto. La media $20 -$25 il prezzo per un servizio fotografico era significativamente inferiore a quello che sarebbe andato perso al casinò in un singolo giro di roulette.

James Toney era lì in giacca e cravatta, dimostrando che può persino rendere elegante il plaid. Per un ragazzo noto per una natura scontrosa, era molto accomodante e ha detto che sarà a Filadelfia per uno spettacolo dal vivo a giugno 7 e spera di vedermi lì.

Nello stand successivo c'era l'emittente della Hall of Fame Al Berstein, che ho avuto il privilegio di intervistare nel 2011. Quando mi è stato detto della mia ammirazione per il suo lavoro di classe e di essere un fan sin dai suoi giorni con Barry Tompkins nei Thursday Night Fights di ESPN, era umile e riconoscente.

La linea per incontrare Roy Jones Jr. era lungo ma valeva la pena aspettare. Mentre il tempo per parlare con Roy era breve, Ho potuto menzionare quanto sia stato un onore incontrare uno dei più grandi interpreti della mia generazione e come mi sono seduto a pochi metri da lui quando era sul set di Creed II.

Mentre la fila per incontrare il leggendario Sugar Ray Leonard è stata eccezionalmente lunga, si vedeva che si stava davvero divertendo, sfoggiando quel sorriso da un milione di dollari e facendo il suo famoso servizio fotografico con i pugni alzati con i fan. Sfortunatamente, con il tempo che scorre a breve, Non ho avuto l'opportunità di incontrare uno dei miei combattenti preferiti crescendo. Mi sarebbe piaciuto mostrargli una foto quando avevo quattro anni, dondolando sul sacco da boxe di Sugar Ray Leonard che mi è stato dato.

A pochi metri di distanza c'era uno dei rivali più famosi di Sugar Ray, il grande Thomas “Hitman” Hearns. Mentre Hitman ha mostrato un certo rallentamento con l'invecchiamento, dimostra ancora di essere una figura imponente, ma ora sostituisce quello sguardo spaventoso con un sorriso caloroso.

All'incontro con Thomas Hearns c'era anche l'attuale campione IBF dei pesi super piuma Tevin Farmer, un collega di Filadelfia, che ho avuto l'opportunità di vedere crescere da un 7-4-1 pugile operaio a 29-4-1 campione del mondo.

La mia visita non sarebbe completa senza fermarmi a vedere "The Pazmanian Devil" Vinny Paz, sempre uno dei miei combattenti d'azione preferiti e personalità carismatiche. Invece di una stretta di mano, mi ha salutato con un grande abbraccio ed ha espresso disappunto per il fatto che mio padre non si fosse unito a me all'expo.

Nel breve lasso di tempo, era impossibile incontrare tutti i grandi combattenti, incluso Michael Spinks, Riddick Bowe, Errol Spence, Anthony Dirrell, e Earnie Shavers. Essendo il weekend del Cinco de Mayo, le linee per alcune delle leggende messicane avvolte intorno al pavimento del centro congressi. Mikey Garcia, Marco Antonio Barerra, Erik Morales, e Juan Manuel Marquez si sono rivelati tutti eccezionalmente popolari. Ma niente in confronto al boato della folla filo-messicana quando è stato presentato il grande Julio Cesar Chavez.

Partecipare a questo evento è stato un sogno che si avvera e potevo solo desiderare di avere più tempo da trascorrere all'evento. Tutto è stato fatto in modo così professionale e i presenti sono stati estremamente accomodanti.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Giro. (Agosto 6, 2018) – The USA Boxing Alumni Association has announced its second class to be inducted into its Hall of Fame, Dicembre 7, presso il Radisson Hotel (215 S. Tempio di St.) a Salk Lake City, Utah.

 

 

 

The reception is being held in conjunction with the 2018 USA Boxing Elite e Campionati Nazionali Giovanili e Junior e Prep Aperto, Dicembre. 2-8, also held in Salt Lake City.

 

 

 

La Classe di 2018 includes U.S. Medagliati a squadre olimpiche e mondiali (professionale) campioni Roy Jones, Jr., Andre Ward e Claressa Shields, as well as former USA Boxing National Director of Coaching Emanuel Steward and veteran USA Boxing official Tom Cleary. The latter two will be posthumously inducted.

 

 

 

This year’s inductees were selected amongst a group of 17 nominees by the hundreds of registered USA Boxing Alumni Association members during the months of June and July.

 

 

 

“USA Boxing Alumni Association is extremely excited to honor this year’s Hall of Fame class, as each inductee represents everything good that amateur boxing has to offer,” suddetto Chris Tofflemire, USA Boxing Alumni Association direttore esecutivo. “Last year’s class contributed to a fantastic inaugural Hall of Fame reception and we’re looking forward to recognizing this year’s class with an even better event.”

HERNANDEZ TO APPEAR ON “THE CONTENDER”

FRESNO, COME (Agosto 1, 2018) – Marcos “Mad Man” Hernandez (11-1-1, 3 KO), who is advised by Al Haymon and fighting under the Premier Boxing Champions platform of fight cards, will appear on the upcoming season of The Contender on EPIX®.

 

The highly anticipated 12-episode season, from MGM Television and Paramount Television, will premiere on EPIX® on Aug. 24, 2018, a 10 PM ET/PT with Hernandez being one of the more notable middleweights featured on the series multiple fights televised on FS1.

 

Hernandez, a native of Fresno, COME, trained with his father Joey Hernandez until a heavily debated split-decision loss to Kyrone “Spegnerlo” Davis made Hernandez rethink his training habits. He has since moved his camp to Southern California and begun training with Henry Ramirez. Since the move Hernandez, has since gone undefeated in the professional realm.

 

 

“I am excited that a lot of people will get to see me on The Contender,” Ha detto Hernandez. “I loved being on the show and growing up I watched it every week. It was amazing to see Andre Ward e Sergio Mora là. Those guys are two fighters who fought at middleweight that I have looked up to my whole career.”
