Monte Barrett: “Congratulazioni a tutti qui. C'è così tanta storia in questa stanza. Sono stato nella boxe 18 anni e hanno una memoria selezionata, ma ci sono state così tante esperienze e risultati sorprendenti. amo questo ragazzo (allenatore Jimmy Glenn). Molti manager non ti chiedono nemmeno come stai. Il mio manager era il grande Stan Hoffman. Mi ha dato $50,000, $3000 un mese e un altro $1000 per l'assicurazione senza contratto. Arthur Mercante, Jr.: “Che grande onore è essere riconosciuto da Ring 8 e la comunità di boxe. In 2012, mio padre è stato inserito nella New York Boxing Hall of Fame. Adesso guarda in basso ed è così orgoglioso. Sono entrato nei Golden Gloves all'età di 17. Nei quarti di finale ho perso contro un grande combattente e Hall of Famer, Juan LaPorte. Come ogni pugile, Pensavo di aver vinto, e voleva una rivincita. Mio padre mi ha detto che non mi piacevano i lavori stradali e ho appena perso un combattimento di tre round. Mi ha chiesto se mi piacerebbe essere un arbitro. Ho iniziato 1979 e mio padre mi ha fatto lavorare cinque anni prima di diventare professionista. Steve Albert: “È un enorme onore essere onorato da questi luminari. Essere riconosciuto nel proprio stato è speciale. Questa è una celebrazione di tutta New York. ho lavorato 23 anni per Showtime Championship Boxing, da 1987-2010, e il più drammatico è stato Corrales-Castillo I, uno dei più grandi combattimenti di tutti i tempi. Don King: “Solo in America, destra? Sono felice di essere inserito nella Boxing Hall of Fame dello Stato di New York. He started a boxing club in Germany while stationed there in the U.S. Esercito. He even met his wife at the famed 5th St. Gym in Miami. Dick was staying there at the home of a relative, right next door to where his future wife lived. One day he asked her out and eventually they were married and starting a family back in Canastota.

“My family is so excited,” Theresa added. “We’ll be there for the induction ceremony, even my older sister from Germany.”

NEW YORK (Marzo 20, 2019) – International boxing referee Arthur Mercante, Jr. will join his father, alla fine degli anni Arthur Mercante, Sr., in the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) to become the first father-son inducted into the NYSBHOF.

The 24-member Class of 2019 will be inducted at the eighth annual NYSBHOF induction dinner on domenica pomeriggio (12:30-5:30 p.m. E), Aprile 28, a Russo On The Bay di Howard Beach, New York.

Mercante, Jr. was an amateur boxer who lost in the 1976 New York Golden Gloves to Juan LaPorte (NYSBHOF inductee, Classe di 2014). “I felt I beat him, and I wanted to turn pro,” Mercante, Jr. explained how he got into officiating. “My father said no as long as I lived in his house, but he suggested I try referring.”

Mercante, Jr. started refereeing in 1979 in the amateurs and moved up to the pro ranks in 1984. He has referred 336 combattimenti, Compreso 72 lotte per il titolo. Mercante, Jr. has some wonderful memories, including a humorous story in which he was accidentally punched.

“I was referring a fight (unified world super middleweight title fight, gen. 14, 2017 at Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn) fra Badou Jack e James DeGale,” Mercante, Jr. ricordato. “I heard the 10-second warning at the end of the sixth round and started counting 5-4-3-2-1. LOS ANGELES (Dicembre. 1, 2018) – Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder and Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury fought to a split-decision draw on SHOWTIME PPV® on Saturday night from STAPLES Center​ ​in​ ​arguably ​one of the best heavyweight fights in years​.​

 

 

 

After controlling the WBC World Championship fight early, Furia (27-0-1, 19 KO) miraculously overcame two knockdowns by Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KO) – including one in round 12 – in the improbable draw. I giudici hanno segnato l'incontro 115-111 for Wilder, 114-112 for Fury and 113-113.

Furia, who out-landed Wilder 84-71 generale, was caught by a short right hand by Wilder just behind the left ear to drop Fury for the third time in his career in the ninth round. Suddenly realizing he might be in trouble, Hurd of Accokeek, Md., countered back from sudden adversity in dramatic fashion and sent Welborn back-tracking before a devastating body punch sent him to one knee. He was counted out at 1:55 by referee Lou Moret, who was officiating the final fight of his 30-plus year career.

“I’m just coming off surgery so I wanted to see how I worked off the jab,” Hurd said. “I felt good I was working behind the jab I got caught on the ropes and got caught with some shots and said ‘that’s enough. He got enough TV time.’ I heard the crowd and I didn’t want to get brave. So I turned it up and got the knockdown.​”​

 

 

 

Former Wilder foe and heavyweight southpaw Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (30-1, 26 KO) returned to STAPLES​ Center​ for a second consecutive victory with a resounding 10th-round TKO against Travis “My Time” Kauffman (32-3, 23 KO) di Reading, Papà.

 

 

 

The 39-year-old Ortiz of Camaguey, Cuba, registered left-cross knockdowns in the sixth, eighth and 10th rounds before the final blow coming later in the 10th round against a gritty Kauffman. “Everything that my team and I have spoken about has come to pass. I’m here as the co-main of a massive card and I’m just really appreciative of everyone who believed in me and helped push me to this moment.
“Saturday night I want to show my versatility. Everyone has seen that I’m electrifying. I bring the action. But I want to show that I am swift and I do have defense. I know how to use my height and range. I’m still going to bring the action on Saturday, so you have to make sure to tune-in.
“We don’t think of Welborn as a tune-up fight. Jason Welborn is a British champion for a reason. We just want to go out there and establish the game plan we worked on in camp.
“I want to show my defensive side and show that I can box and move. I want to show that I don’t have to just keep coming forward. I’m going to be able to do that and start to break him down and get him out of there.
