Kathy "Wildcat" Collins wordt de eerste vrouwelijke bokser die op 30 april wordt opgenomen in de New York State Boxing Hall of Fame

NEW YORK (Maart 22, 2023) – Meervoudig wereldkampioen Kathy “Wildcat” Collins (14-2-4, 3 KO) wordt de eerste vrouwelijke bokser die wordt opgenomen in de New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF).

Collins, van Vlakzicht, is een van een 22 leden tellende Class of 2022 wordt ingewijd tijdens het 11e NYSBHOF introductiediner, gesponsord door Ring 8, opzondagmiddag (12:30-5:30 p.m. EN), April 30, bij Russo's On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.

”Het is een enorme eer om opgenomen te worden in de New York State Boxing Hall of Fame,' zei Collins (gehuwde naam Globusschutz). “Dit is mijn vierde opname in Halls of Fame, wat speciaal voor mij is omdat ik ook vier wereldtitels had. Maar dit is nog specialer omdat het eindelijk hier in New York is, het mekka van het boksen, en waar het voor mij allemaal begon.

"In 1995, Ik maakte deel uit van de eerste lichting vrouwen die ooit mocht boksen in de legendarische Daily News Golden Gloves. Een jaar later, het eerste vrouwengevecht dat op dinsdagavond op de Amerikaanse televisie werd uitgezonden vanuit de Paramount in Madison Square Garden, die culmineerde in de hoogste vrouwelijke portemonnees destijds van Madison Square Garden als een co-featured gevecht op een grote pay-per-view voor Don King. Dit waren belangrijke prestaties in het vrouwenboksen. Het hielp vandaag de weg vrij te maken voor vrouwen, sommigen komen uit de Olympische Spelen, The Garden uitverkopen en werken aan gelijk loon met loondagen van zeven cijfers.

Collins 'tweede professionele gevecht was een beslissing van zes ronden over Andrea DeShong in 1996, die het professionele vrouwenboksen naar de beroemde Madison Square Garden en reguliere kabeltelevisie bracht.

In 1997, Kathy veroverde de IFBA weltergewichttitel en voegde later datzelfde jaar de IWBF junior weltergewichtkroon toe, vervolgens, ze viel terug naar de lichtgewicht divisie om met succes uit te dagen voor het IWBF-kampioenschap. Collins werd de eerste vechter die tegelijkertijd wereldtitels in de WIBF bezat, IFBA, en IWBF.

Kathy Collins is een echte pionier in het vrouwenboksen. Nu, ze zal thuis in New York geëerd worden door haar opname in de NYSBHOF.

"In 30 jaar,' concludeerde ze, “we hebben een lange weg afgelegd schat! Het is echt een eer om erkend te worden door de New York State Boxing Hall of Fame en om erkend en opgenomen te worden in een enorm getalenteerde, succesvolle klasse van inductees, en in de buurt zijn van zoveel van mijn vrienden en collega's die me onderweg hebben geholpen om plafonds te breken.

Andere levende boksers die naar de NYSBHOF gaan, zijn de 2-divisie van Brooklyn (weltergewicht & licht weltergewicht), 6-keer wereldkampioen "Super" Zab Judah (44-10, 30 KO), Brooklyn's 2-divisie wereldkampioen (weltergewicht en licht weltergewicht) Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi (36-8, 7 KO), Troy weltergewicht Kevin “Mr. Opwinding” Pompeius (32-18-3, 12 KO), en Brooklyn World Super Lightweight Wereldtitel uitdager Dmitry "Star of David" Salita (35-2-1, 18 KO).  

Postume deelnemers die worden ingewijd, zijn Poughkeepsie's wereld lichtgewicht uitdager Johnny Busso (36-12-1, 15 KO), Bronx middengewicht Eugene "Silent" Hairston (45-13-5, 24 KO), New York City's NYSAC wereldkampioen vedergewicht Tony "Jimmy Pell" Pellone (51-19-6, 10 KO), Bronx vedergewicht Mike "The Bronx Spider" Belloise (91-28-12, 21 KO), New York City's wereldkampioen gekleurd zwaargewicht Harry "Black Panther" Wills (70-9-3, 56 KO), en Hempstead's World Light Heavyweight Wereldtitel uitdager Eddie "Wildcat" Davis (34-6-1, 20 KO).  

Levende niet-deelnemers die naar de NYSBHOF gaan, zijn Brooklyn-trainer Hector Rocha, Brooklynn ring-omroeper Dave Diamante, Bronx-commentator/producer/presentator Tony Paige, Latham-journalist Bob Mladinich, Brooklyn-neuroloog Barry Jordan, Brooklyn rechter Robin Taylor, en Buffalo-journalist Bob Caico.

Postume niet-deelnemende inductees zijn Brooklyn-manager Izzy Zwerling, Manhattan-manager Dave Wolf, Brooklyn-trainer George Washington, en New York City-manager / promotor Irving Cohen.

Elke bijwonen inductee (of directe afstammeling van) zal een speciaal ontworpen riem ontvangen betekenende zijn of haar inductie in de NYSBHOF.

De 2022 inductees werden geselecteerd door de leden van de NYSBHOF Nominating Committee: Voorzitter Jack Hirsch, Randy Gordon, Henry Hascup, Don Majeski, Ron McNair, Jim Monteverde, neil Terens, José Corpas, Bobby Cassidy, en Bob Duffy.

Alle boksers die nodig zijn inactief te zijn voor ten minste drie jaar in aanmerking komen voor NYSBHOF inductie, en alle inductees moeten hebben gewoond in de staat New York voor een belangrijk deel van hun boksen carrière of tijdens de bloei van hun carrière.

OVER RING 8: Gevormd in 1954 door een ex-bokser, Jack Grebelsky, Ring 8 werd de achtste dochteronderneming van wat toen bekend als het Nationaal Veteraan Boxers Association – vandaar, RING8 – en vandaag het motto van de organisatie blijft: Boxers Helpen Boxers.

RING 8 is volledig toegewijd aan de ondersteuning van minder fortuinlijke mensen in het boksen gemeenschap die hulp in termen van het betalen van de huur kan vereisen, medische kosten, of wat dan ook te rechtvaardigen behoefte.

NEW YORK (Maart 19, 2020) - The New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) kondigde vandaag aan dat het negende jaarlijkse introductiediner is uitgesteld vanwege de coronaviruspandemie van april 19th naarSeptember 20th bij Russo's On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.

Het geld dat al is ingezameld voor kaartjes en advertenties in tijdschriften kan worden gebruikt voor de september. 20th evenement of volledig geretourneerd op verzoek bij het aankooppunt.

“Vanwege nieuwe stadsmandaten en de onzekerheid van het coronavirus,”NYSBHOF presidentBob Duffy aangekondigd, “We hebben ons evenement uitgesteld tot 20 september. Het zou niet eerlijk zijn geweest tegenover de honorees, hun vrienden en gasten, en het grote publiek om nog langer te wachten. Ik moet de eigendom en het management van Russo’s On The Bay prijzen voor hun samenwerking tijdens deze crisis om ons een datum te geven die hopelijk voor ons allemaal zal werken.

"Ik wil iedereen bedanken voor hun geduld, advies en inzicht bij het nemen van deze beslissing. Met de extra tijd ben ik ervan overtuigd dat we dit bekroonde diner tot ons beste diner ooit kunnen maken. "

NEW YORK (Januari 27, 2020) - The New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) heeft officieel aangekondigd haar 28-lid Class of 2019. De negende jaarlijkse NYSBHOF inductie diner zal worden gehoudenzondagmiddag (12:30-5:30 p.m. EN), April 19, bij Russo's On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.

“Ik ben er trots op dat we blijven New York mannen en vrouwen in het boksen te eren voor hun toewijding aan de sport die ze hebben gediend,”NYSBHOF presidentBob Duffy zei. “Dit is onze manier om hen te bedanken en laat elke nieuwe inductee weten dat we niet vergeten alles wat ze deden en nog steeds doen. Welch gaat in de NHSBHOF als een bokser, maar hij slaagde ook collega-Klasse van 2020 inductee Goodrich.

Elke bijwonen inductee zal een speciaal ontworpen riem betekenende zijn of haar inductie in de NYSBHOF ontvangen.

De 2020 inductees werden geselecteerd door de NYSBHOF leden benoemingscommissie:  Randy Gordon, Henry Hascup, Don Majeski,Ron McNair, Jim Monteverde enneil Terens.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Ronde. (November 4, 2019) – Olympic gold-medalists“Big” George Foreman, Mark Breland en“Smokin’” Joe Frazier head the Class of 2019 into the USA Boxing Alumni Association Hall of Fame, vrijdag nacht, December 13, at Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The HOF reception is being held in conjunction with the 2020 Olympische Trials en 2019 Nationale Kampioenschappen. December. 7-15, at Lake Charles Civic Center. Sen. John McCain will be posthumously presented a special Lifetime Achievement Award. A fearless boxer for three years at the U.S. Naval Academy, Sen. McCain managed his battalion’s boxing team to the brigade championship.

Sen. McCain was the architect of the ground-breaking Muhammad Ali Act, pushed for the pardoning ofJack Johnson, and worked with the Cleveland Clinic on the forefront of brain trauma studies leading to more safety measures for boxers.

“My father had a passion for boxing,” his daughterMegan McCain said. “He loved it for the thrill of achievement, the nobility of struggle, and the dignity of men bloodied but unbowed. His love for boxing and his love for America had a lot in common. That’s why he worked tirelessly to protect and elevate the sport – making it an arena of integrity for fans and fighters alike.

“That’s also why I am honored to join the USA Boxing Alumni Association Hall of Fame to accept their Lifetime Achievement Award on his behalf.”

Atlantic City, N.J. – November 19, 2018 – The Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame (ACBHOF) heeft aangekondigd 2019 Inductie klasse. The Induction Weekend will take place at The Claridge, een Radisson Hotel gelegen aan Park Place & Promenade in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 21 – 23, 2019.

“I feel appreciated and it’s starting to settle in that I’m near that mark of living legend. I don’t see myself as a living legend. Let other people decide that. This is a great honor and I’m grateful for the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame for making this happen,” Hopkins said in a November 16 RingTV interview with Joseph Santoliquito.
“Watch who you co-sign for; you can’t sell me black to get in the door. You can’t sell me white to get in the door. You can’t sell me half white or half black or none of that to get in the door. But you can sell me LOYALTY” said former two-division champion Bernard Hopkins.
The 3rd Annual Induction Ceremony & Celebration Weekend will honor some of the world’s most iconic figures from the sport of boxing: Butch Lewis, Nigel Collins, Engels “Bouie” Fisher and New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame’s President Henry Hascup are just a few named who will be enshrined with the 2019 inductieles.
Inductees will be named in three categories: Fighter, Trainer & Cut-Men and Special Contributors.

Veteran SHOWTIME Sports® Reporter Jim Gray and Former Play-By-Play Announcer Steve Albert Join 2018 Class Alongside Vitali Klitschko, Eric Morales and Ronald “Winky” Wright

SHOWTIME Sports veteran reporter Jim Gray and former, long-time play-by-play announcer Steve Albert were elected to the 2018 class of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, it was announced by the Hall on Tuesday.

Gray and Albert earned induction into the Observer category, which recognizes outstanding achievements of print and electronic media journalists, sportscasters, publishers, schrijvers, historians, photographers and artists. Gray and Albert will join SHOWTIME Sports boxing analyst Al Bernstein (2012), ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. (2013), analyst and historian Steve Farhood (2017) and announcer Barry Tompkins (2017) in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Former heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, four-division world champion Eric Morales and former undisputed super welterweight world champion Ronald “Winky” Wright headline the 2018 inductieles. The newly elected class will be inducted during Hall of Fame Weekend Juni 7-10, 2018, in Canastota, N.Y..

“All of us at SHOWTIME Sports who have worked with Jim and Steve over the years are thrilled that they are receiving this well-deserved honor,” said David Dinkins Jr., Executive Producer, Showtime Sport. “Both were instrumental in building the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® stemrecht. Jim’s interviews have become classic post-fight drama while Steve’s fight calls are integral to some of the most significant moments in boxing history.”

The recognition by the International Boxing Hall of Fame is the result of a career’s worth of hard work and accomplishments for Gray and Albert.

A national boxing champion at Syracuse University, Coulter also coaches the U.S. Army Boxing Team.
International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Al Bernstein will serve as Master of ceremonies for Vrijdag evenement. “USA Boxing makes a positive difference in the lives of thousands and thousands of young people ion a daily basis,” the voice of Showtime Boxing said,” and I am so honored to serve as emcee for the inaugural USA Boxing Alumni Association Hall of Fame Reception. VERONA, N.Y.. (Juni 10, 2017) – Undefeated super lightweight Regis Prograis made an emphatic statement Vrijdag opShoBox: The New Generation, knocking down previously undefeated Joel Diaz Jr. four times in the second round as he stamped his arrival as a legitimate contender in the 140-pound division.

The southpaw Prograis (20-0, 17 KO), who was making his fourth start on the prospect developmental series, called out the top names at 140 after the second round demolition (WHO 2:55) at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y..

The special Hall of Fame edition of ShoBox: The New Generation featured four members of the International Boxing Hall of Fame: ShoBox mainstays Barry Tompkins and Steve Farhood and special guests Al Bernstein and Jimmy Lennon Jr. Tompkins and Farhood will be inducted just down the road in Canastota op zondag in een 2017 class headlined by boxing greats Evander Holyfield, Marco Antonio Barrera and Johnny Tapia.

The super lightweights, Prograis and Diaz, entered the main event with a combined record of 42-0, but it was clear they were in a different class after the first round. Prograis knocked down Diaz in the opening 30 seconds of the second in an exchange that appeared to be the result of a clash of feet. Regardless, Prograis smelled blood and pounced on Diaz, flooring him again with a straight left midway through the round.

The Houston resident, who relocated from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, knocked down Diaz again just 15 seconds later with a straight left. The fourth and final knockdown, courtesy of a left hook, sent Diaz (23-1, 19 KO) tumbling back and was enough for referee Mark Nelson to halt the bout with just seconds left on the clock.

It was a convincing statement for Prograis, die landde 62 percent of his power shots in the toughest test of his career.

“I went out there too hyper, trying to kill him,” Diaz said. “I went out too aggressive. I should have toned it down a bit. ik had 10 rounds but I just went out there trying to take him out. I should’ve calmed down.

“I should have used my jab a bit more to knock him down but I came out swinging.”

Super middleweight prospect Steve Rolls managed to maintain his undefeated record with a closely contested eight-round slip decision victory over Demond Nicholson scored 77-75 Nicholson, 77-74 Broodjes, 77-74 Broodjes.

Rolls got off to a quick start, flooring Nicholson with a left hook in the closing seconds of the first to pocket a 10-8 ronde. He came out attacking to sweep the second, but the fight appeared to change course in the third when Nicholson hurt Rolls in the final minute with his first meaningful punch of the fight.

Nicholson (17-2-1, 16 KO) carried the momentum to sweep the fourth, but the remaining four rounds featured back-and-forth action and were difficult to score. “I’m not going to make any excuses. He won the fight,” Nicholson said. “That’s what the judges saw, but I don’t agree. He hurt me in the first round. He hit me viciously in the head. I was dizzy but I recovered and I went on. I think I did a very good job but clearly not enough.

“I can’t fight at 160 – I’m a 168-pounder. Fighting at that weight drained me. I wasn’t at my best.”

The Sergio Martinez protégé had a bloodied Reyes hurt in the opening minute of the second and closed the show in the final minute with a sharp right to the ear that sent Reyes (14-4-3, 2 KO) falling back toward the canvas. The perfectly placed punch had Reyes seemingly out before he hit the floor.

The Spaniard Fernandez (13-0, 11 KO) landed a staggering 55 percent of his power shots and 40 procent van zijn totale stoten.

“The one-two, one-two was the key to opening the door,” Fernandez said. “The straight right hand is one of my best punches and I caught Reyes in the perfect spot. I hope he is OK. Reyes was responsive but taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
