Las Vegas (Februari 20, 2020) – Twee-divisie wereldkampioen Michael Spinks heeft bevestigd dat hij zal verschijnen op de zesde jaarlijkse Box Fan Expo op zaterdag, Mei 2, 2020, in het Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas vanaf 10 a.m. naar 5 p.m.

Spinks zal een Meet houden & Begroet zijn fans op zijn stand tijdens het fanevenement tijdens het Cinco De Mayo-weekend.

De Box Fan Expo is een jaarlijks fanevenement dat samenvalt met een aantal sporten’ legendarisch, klassieke gevechten in Las Vegas, inclusief Mayweather vs. Maidana II, Mayweather vs. Berto, Canelo vs. Chavez Jr, Canelo vs. GGG II, en Canelo vs.. Jacobs. Spinks zal dit jaar zijn tweede optreden maken’ Expo en zullen handschoenen signeren, foto's, persoonlijke spullen en memorabilia. Spinks heeft ook merchandise te koop op zijn stand, en fans krijgen ook de kans om foto's te maken met deze bokslegende, ook wel bekend als “Jinx.”

**Over Michael Spinks**
Spinks is een wereldkampioen in twee divisies, de onbetwiste titel van licht zwaargewicht hebben gehouden 1983 naar 1985, en de lineaire zwaargewicht titel van 1985 naar 1988. Hij werd opgenomen in de International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1994. Als amateur won hij een gouden medaille in de middengewichtsklasse bij de 1976 Olympische Zomerspelen.

Spinks is de broer van voormalig wereldkampioen zwaargewicht Leon Spinks, en oom van Cory Spinks, een voormalig kampioen weltergewicht en licht middengewicht.
Spinks bleef ongeslagen in zijn eerste 31 professionele gevechten, het verslaan van tegenstanders als Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Eddie Mustafa Mohammed, Marvin Johnson en Eddie Davis zijn op weg om de onbetwiste licht zwaargewicht kampioen te worden. Na tien succesvolle titelverdedigingen, Spinks klom op tot zwaargewicht, en als een underdog versloeg de lang regerende IBF-zwaargewichtkampioen Larry Holmes; daarbij, Spinks werd de eerste regerend wereldkampioen licht zwaargewicht die de zwaargewichttitel won. De enige nederlaag van Spinks in zijn professionele carrière kwam in juni in handen van Mike Tyson 27, 1988. De International Boxing Research Organization en BoxRec rangschikken Spinks onder de tien grootste lichte zwaargewichten aller tijden.

Tijdens de middengewichttitelwedstrijd van afgelopen weekend tussen Canelo Alvarez en Daniel Jacobs vond ook de jaarlijkse Box Fan Expo plaats, gehouden in het Las Vegas Convention Center. De geweldige memorabilia die werden tentoongesteld en de live amateurboksactie vormden een aanvulling op een reeks voormalige en huidige wereldkampioenenvechters die beschikbaar zijn voor snelle meet & greets.

Als een levenslange boksfan, het was jammer dat ik maar iets meer dan twee uur te besteden had aan het evenement voordat ik terugging naar de T-Mobile Arena voor de start van de undercard-wedstrijden. De tijd die ik kon besteden was ontzettend plezierig. De prijzen waren redelijk om aan deze vurige legendes te voldoen en hebben even de tijd om te praten en foto's te maken. Het gemiddelde $20 -$25 de prijs voor een foto-op was aanzienlijk lager dan wat er bij een enkele roulette-draai in het casino verloren zou zijn gegaan.

James Toney was daar in een pak, bewijst dat hij zelfs een plaid er stijlvol uit kan laten zien. Voor een man die bekend staat om zijn nors karakter, hij was erg meegaand en zei dat hij in juni in Philadelphia zal zijn voor een liveshow 7 en hoopt me daar te zien.

In het hokje hiernaast stond Hall-of-Fame-omroep Al Berstein, die ik in 2011 had mogen interviewen. Toen ik werd verteld over mijn bewondering voor zijn stijlvolle werk en fan zijn sinds zijn dagen met Barry Tompkins op ESPN's Thursday Night Fights, hij was nederig en dankbaar.

De lijn om Roy Jones Jr. te ontmoeten. was lang maar het wachten waard. Terwijl de tijd om met Roy te praten kort was, Ik kon vermelden wat een eer het was om een van de grootste artiesten van mijn generatie te ontmoeten en hoe ik op slechts een paar meter van hem zat toen hij op de Creed II-set zat..

Terwijl de rij om de legendarische Sugar Ray Leonard te ontmoeten uitzonderlijk lang was, je kon zien dat hij het echt naar zijn zin had, die lach van een miljoen dollar flitsen en zijn beroemde foto met vuisten doen met fans. helaas, met korte tijd, Ik had niet de gelegenheid om een van mijn favoriete vechters te ontmoeten toen ik opgroeide. Ik had hem graag een foto laten zien toen ik vier jaar oud was, wegzwaaien op de Sugar Ray Leonard bokszak die ik kreeg.

Een paar meter verderop was een van Sugar Ray's beroemdste rivalen, de grote Thomas "Hitman" Hearns. Terwijl de huurmoordenaar wat vertraging heeft laten zien naarmate hij ouder is geworden, hij blijkt nog steeds een imposant figuur te zijn, maar nu vervangt hij die angstaanjagende blik door een warme glimlach.

Ook Thomas Hearns kwam opdagen om de huidige IBF Super-Featherweight-kampioen Tevin Farmer te ontmoeten, een mede-Philadelphian, die ik heb mogen zien groeien van een 7-4-1 gezel bokser naar een 29-4-1 wereldkampioen.

Mijn bezoek zou niet compleet zijn zonder te stoppen om "The Pazmanian Devil" Vinny Paz te zien, altijd een van mijn favoriete actiestrijders en charismatische persoonlijkheden. In plaats van een handdruk, hij begroette me met een dikke knuffel en uitte zijn teleurstelling dat mijn vader niet mee was op de expo.

In de korte tijd, het was onmogelijk om alle grote vechters daar te ontmoeten, inclusief Michael Spinks, Riddick Bowe, Errol Spence, Anthony Dirrell, en Earnie Shavers. Met het feit dat het Cinco de Mayo-weekend is, de regels voor enkele van de Mexicaanse legendes gewikkeld rond de vloer van het congrescentrum. Mikey Garcia, Marco Antonio Barerra, Erik Morales, en Juan Manuel Marquez bleken allemaal uitzonderlijk populair te zijn. Maar niets vergeleken met het gebrul van de pro-Mexicaanse menigte toen de grote Julio Cesar Chavez werd geïntroduceerd.

Het bijwonen van dit evenement was een droom die uitkwam en ik kon alleen maar wensen dat ik meer tijd had om aan het evenement te besteden. Alles was zo professioneel gedaan en de aanwezigen waren buitengewoon meegaand.

Een pluim voor Box Fan Expo voor zo'n uitzonderlijke gebeurtenis.

**Over Thomas Hearns**

**CARSON, Calif.,** (Februari 9, 2019) – Gervonta Davis defended his WBA Super Featherweight World Championship with a thrilling first-round TKO of former world champion Hugo Ruiz before a sellout crowd of 8,048 at Dignity Health Sports Park Saturday non SHOWTIME.

Baltimore’s Davis (21-0, 20 KO) recorded his eighth career first-round knockout as referee Jack Reiss called off the fight with one second remaining in the first round following a devastating sweeping right hook by Davis connected cleanly and sent Ruiz (39-5, 32 KO) down to his knees.

Davis, who entered the ring to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, wasted little time showing why he is one of boxing rising super stars with his impressive fourth win in a world title fight. The 24-year-old Davis is the youngest U.S.-born world titlist in boxing and was headlining for the first time.

With his promoter Floyd Mayweather looking on, Davis made quick work of his late-replacement opponent. “I knew it was coming,"Hij zei. “I wanted to go more rounds, but I knew if I got him out of there early I could fight again sooner. When I touched the jab I saw his arm was in front of his face so if I threw a hook or uppercut it was right in line.”

I’m a fighter and I have a great team. One of the best in the sport. I believe in my team and whatever they line up, Ik ben klaar.

Davis told SHOWTIME reporter Jim Gray he’s ready for a sweet homecoming for his next fight. "Ja, mijnheer. We’re coming to Baltimore. We’re going home, baby.”

The southpaw Fortuna, of Braintree, Massa, by way of the Dominican Republic, knocked down Bogere in the sixth round, the same round Bogere suffered a nasty cut above his right eye after an accidental head clash.

The knockdown occurred after a powerful left uppercut by Fortuna dazed Bogere, who appeared to be pushed down and touched his glove on the canvas. Referee Edward Collantes scored it a knockdown, giving Fortuna the 10-8 ronde.

"(The knock down) was correct,”Zei Fortuna, who said he would love a future shot against Davis. “I saw his eyes were a little glossy and his legs buckled a bit. When I saw that he was cut, the game plan changed again and we had to work again to attack the cut.”

Originally from Uganda but now living in Las Vegas, Bogere gave himself a seven out of 10 grade. “I think I won the fight,"Hij zei. “Even the knockdown was bull. He kept coming at me with the head. He kept trying to head butt me. The challenge was that there was blood in my eye. The first couple of rounds I was boxing him easily.”

At the midway point of the fight, Fortuna began pulling away winning rounds six, seven and eight on SHOWTIME Steve Farhood’s unofficial scorecard as Bogere continued to fade, although coming back to win round nine on Farhood’s card.

In the power punch category, Fortuna connected on 89 van 310 punches for 29 percent while Bogere landed 59 van 317 voor slechts 19 procent. Bogere was riding a 13-fight winning streak over the past six years coming into the fight.

“What I want right now is a contract so I can fight Gervonta Davis wherever. Lomachenko, any of them,”Zei Fortuna, who had a No Decision against Adrian Granados last June on SHOWTIME after falling out of the ring in the fourth round suffering a head and neck injury.

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING COUNTDOWN featured two live undercard fights on social media platforms leading into the televised tripleheader. Former world title challenger Erickson Lubin (20-1, 15 KO) knocked down Ishe Smith (29-11, 12 KO) a total of four times before the fight was stopped at the end of round three in a scheduled 10-round super welterweight bout. Undefeated super lightweight Juan Heraldez (16-0, 10 KO) stopped Eddie Ramirez (17-3, 11 KO) in round seven of a scheduled 10-round fight.

Veteran broadcaster Brian Custer hosted SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING. Versatile combat sportscaster Mauro Ranallo called the action alongside Hall of Fame analyst Al Bernstein and former two-division world champion Paulie Malignaggi. **LOS ANGELES** (Februari 7, 2019) – WBA Super Featherweight World Champion **Gervonta Davis** en voormalig wereldkampioen **Hugo Ruiz** went face-to-face Thursday at the final press conference before they go toe-to-toe this Saturday night in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING^® from Dignity Health Sports Park, formerly StubHub Center, in Carson, Calif. en gepresenteerd door Premier Boxing Champions.

Also facing off on Thursday were fighters who will enter the ring live on SHOWTIME in televised undercard attractions. **GERVONTA DAVIS**

“I’m so excited to come back strong in 2019. This is the year that could put me over the top and put me at the highest level.

“The opponent change didn’t really affect me. In the amateurs we fought four or five times a week so we always had different opponents. I had been sparring someone taller than me in training camp anyway. I think a fighter should be ready and able to adapt to anything that is in front of him in the ring. I’m ready and I hope Ruiz is too.

“Trainingskamp is geweldig geweest. I’m ready for Saturday night. We planned on fighting Abner Mares, but he had an injury and we hope to still get him down the line if everything is okay with his health.

“Hugo Ruiz is a great opponent. He’s going to come to fight on Saturday night. He’s been telling the media he’s going to knock me out, so I hope we get an action packed fight for the fans. I’m glad Ruiz is coming for the knockout. We owe it to the fans and I’m praying that he comes ready to give them a great show.

“I feel like I’m the fighter that can be the next big star. I’m working towards it. I’m just a kid soaking it all in right now. zaterdag avond, I hope everyone is ready, because it’s going to be action.

“Ruiz’s record speaks for itself. I’ve watched him and he has some pop. He’s accurate and I’m ready for it. I don’t think I’ll have any ring rust. I’ve worked with a lot of great fighters in the gym. I’m just excited to get back in the ring.

“I want to give my fans all over the world a great show. Everyone tuning in is going to see a great performance. Hopefully Hugo will live up to his word, because I’m going to live up to mine.”

**HUGO RUIZ**

“I’m ready and I’m prepared to take full advantage of this chance to make a statement on Saturday night. I want any one of the champions in this division, but I’m not looking past Zamora. I just know that the work that I put in will pay off.

“A victory against Sharif Bogere is very important for me and a stepping stone to where I want to get. It’s going to be a difficult fight, but I’m ready to make this a very tough night for him.”

**SHARIF BOGERE**

“We are going to make this a great fight on Saturday. Fortuna is a good fighter and tough guy. I expect him to bring a lot of fireworks. I’m prepared for it and I have the game plan to win.

“Every day is a tough test in life. This is going to be just another fight. I’m prepared and I have a great team behind me. I’m coming on Saturday night for what belongs to me.

“Fortuna has a big name and is a step up for me. This win will put me up there toward the top and I’ll be prepared for whatever challenge comes after that.”

“Zamora is my toughest opponent to date in my opinion. He’s won his last five fights, so I know he’s coming into this fight with a lot of confidence. He has power in both hands and he’s very tough. But I’m going into this fight with a lot of confidence myself. This is going to be a war and one I’m looking forward to. I have no doubt in my mind that I’m going to come out on top.”

LOS ANGELES (Januari 30, 2019) -Three-division, four-time champion Abner Mares has been forced to pull out of the WBA Super Featherweight title match against two-time super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis on Saturday, Februari 9 after suffering an injury while training.

Davis will now defend against former world championHugo Ruizin the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, met een dekking te beginnen bij 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Ruiz is an all-action brawler who previously picked up a world title at super bantamweight in 2015 and most recently defeated Alberto Guevara in January on the Pacquiao vs. Broner PPV event in a featherweight fight. Ruiz, die eigenaar is 18 first round knockouts, floored Guevara in the opening minute and cruised to a near-shutout decision victory.

He had originally been slotted for an interim title shot against Jhack Tepora in January before Tepora missed weight, but will now have his chance to fight for a belt against one of the most-feared punchers at 130-pounds on February 9. The 30-year-old from Sinaloa, Mexico stands at five feet, nine inches tall, nearly four inches taller than Davis, and has won three straight fights leading up to this fight.

“I trained for three months to fight a southpaw when I fought in January,” said Ruiz. “When the opponent changed, it was hard to adjust in 24 uur. After the fight I immediately went back to the gym, because you never know what’s going to happen in boxing. Ik ben 100 percent ready to knockout Gervonta Davis.”

“Hugo Ruiz has another opportunity to fight for a world title because he’s demonstrated that he’s devoted to boxing and his career,” Said Sampson Lewkowicz, Ruiz’s Promoter. “He went right back to the gym after his last fight. He’s ready for another great opportunity to be a world champion and he’s going to take advantage of that opportunity.”

Mares injured his right elbow during sparring at the Robert Garcia Boxing Gym in Riverside, Calif. Mares said he had experienced soreness in his elbow following the past two fights, but nothing that had ever given him nor his team concern.

“I’m not going to sugarcoat this. I’m disappointed and devastated that I’ve injured my right elbow in sparring,” Mares said. “This is something that I haven’t had happen to me during my career and the feeling is just horrible. I will be going to see my doctor about this and am prepared to follow whatever recommendations and rehab that gets me back into the ring. I’m healthy, not afraid of doing the work and I will be back. This is a temporary setback. Don’t count me out.”

“Boxing is a sport of brains, passion and physical punishment,” zei Mares’ trainer Robert Garcia. “When you’re in the ring sparring with talented, top-class sparring partners, the chances of injuries are very high. That was the situation in this case. He was sparring top young fighters and he injured his elbow. He cannot fight like that, especially in a fight against Davis.”

Moeders, who has engaged in numerous memorable fights throughout his storied career, was seeking to move up in weight and looking to capture his fifth world title in a fourth weight class.

Las Vegas (Juli 3, 2018) – Three Time World Champion Jessie Vargas has confirmed that he will appear and hold a Meet & Greet with his fans at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the fourth Annual Box Fan Expo op Zaterdag september 15, 2018 uit 10 AM TO 5 PM, during Mexican Independence weekend.
