QUOI: Sports Showtime® Emmy-award winning reporter Jim Gray sat down with the fathers of Danny Garcia et Shawn Porter as the two former world champions prepare to meet September 8 for the vacant WBC Welterweight World Championship on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.

 

Angel Garcia et Kenny Porter, who both also serve as their sons’ trainers, are asked by Gray how they react when they watch their sons take punishment in the ring.

 

 

 

“As a dad, I have to separate the boxing,” Angel Garcia said. “So when Danny’s in there I’ve got to look at him as a coach. I can’t look at it as a dad.”

 

 

 

Said Kenny Porter: “As a former boxer, I felt what it’s like to be in that ring… So I feel differently when he’s in the ring. I have a more competitive spirit towards winning than maybe someone who’s kid is in there and they’re looking at whether the kid is getting injured. I’m looking at it like, let’s win.”

 

 

 

Gray gets Porter and Garcia to open up about challenges, regrets and the aspirations they’ve carried for their progeny both in the ring and outside of it. “I do [have regrets],” Angel Garcia said. “I said my faults. I’m not perfect.”

 

 

 

Angel called himself the “most underrated trainer” in boxing today, and Danny the “most underrated fighter.”

 

 

 

At the end of the interview, Kenny unveils a Garcia “DSG” T-shirt that reads: “Showtime Destroys Garcia” and both fathers shared a big laugh.

SHOWTIME Sports® provides a glimpse into the mindsets of Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter as the two former world champions met face-to-face last week in New York City to officially announce their September 8 bout for the vacant WBC Welterweight World Championship, en direct sur Showtime (9 p.m. HE / 6 h, heure. Boxing For The World 5K Run a Success in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico (Juillet 30, 2018) – Dimanche dernier (22 juillet) à Caguas, Puerto Rico, Boxing For The World staged a 5K run, which served as a fundraiser for The Make A Wish Foundation of Puerto Rico facility . The facility (maison) houses children with Cancer and other terminal illnesses. The facility sustained major damages due to Hurricane Maria .

 

 

 

The main sponsor was the WBC and their WBC Cares program.

 

 

 

No less than 20 of the greatest fighters in Puerto Rico took part in the walk such as:

Also on hand was Trinidad’s mother, Dona Irma, who served over a 1000 bowls of her famous chicken broth.

 

 

 

Mercedes Simmons, who is a board member for Boxing For The World as well as the CEO of Pretty Girl Promotions was ecstatic about the turnout for the great event.

 

 

 

“We are so happy that the legends of Puerto Rico boxing came out to support this very important cause. The building is vital for those children in need, and we are on our way to rehabbing the facility after the terrible damage it sustained during the hurricane. The WBC really came through, and really was a huge help to this fundraiser.” said Simmons.

 

 

 

“WBC did a great thing. I informed them that Daniel Alicea’s WBC Continental belt and NABF belt were stolen from him house while he was undergoing chemotherapy. When I approached Mauricio Sulaiman and Jill Diamond from the WBC, without hesitation they agreed to redo the belts and also sponsor the 5k”

Garcia (34-1, 20 KOs) a combattu and defeated many of the most formidable opponents at 140 and 147-pounds spanning two generations—Erik Morales, Zab Judah, Kendall Holt, Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Paulie Malignaggi and Lamont Peterson among them. He scored a TKO victory against former welterweight champion Andre Berto in a welterweight title eliminator and followed it up with a 12-round decision over Adrian Granados.

SAN FRANCISCO, COMME (Juin 12, 2018) – Today unbeaten WBC Youth and USBA Lightweight champion, Devin “Le rêve” Haney (19-0, 13 KOs), will be a special guest speaker at the Booker T. Washington Community Center à San Francisco, COMME. Devin is looking forward to sharing his story of being a system described problem child at Booker T. Washington.

 

 

 

Devin will be speaking on the importance of setting goals, being positive under adversity, remaining humble, staying out of trouble, eating a well-balanced diet, travailler dur, and becoming a young champion.

 

 

 

“Speaking to the kids at the Booker T. Washington community center today holds a special place in my heart. I spent a lot of time at Booker T. and know what it’s like to be characterized a troubled kid,” dit Devin Haney. “I want to let these kids know that with hard work and discipline, one can become successful at anything they put their mind to.
