BELÉN, Pennsilvània. (Juny 28, 2017) – Miguel Cruz (16-0, 11 KOs) earned a unanimous decision to defeat Alex Martin (13-2, 5 KOs) and remained unbeaten in a welterweight rematch that headlined Lliga de Campions de Boxa DIMARTS TOE-TO-TOE en FS1 iBOXA DE CAMPIONS per FOX Esports Dimarts night from Sands Bethlehem Events Center in Bethlehem, Pare.
After winning a split-decision against Martin in their January showdown, Cruz kept his perfect record intact by scoring two knockdowns before getting the decision in their 10-round matchup.
“I honestly didn’t feel great in our first fight and when I re-watched it, I thought Martin won,” va dir la Cruz. “That made me train ever harder than ever to prove that I have the skills and power to compete at the world class level, and I think I did that aquesta nit.”
Cruz got off to a fast start by landing a huge left hook that caught Martin and dropped him late in the first round. Martin was able to get to his feet and recover just before the bell sounded to end the round.
Martin kept trying to work on the inside but Cruz was determined to push back and consistently landed with big power shots. Another left hook in round four sent Martin to the mat again, although he appeared less effected than during the first knockdown.
“I was fighting his fight aquesta nit,” va dir Martin. “I just didn’t put on my best performance. The first knockdown was a real knockdown but the second knockdown he hit me in the back of the head.”
Round five saw Martin begin to box more effectively, landing several right hands before a left hook landed low, sending Cruz to the canvas and causing referee Gary Rosato to halt the bout while Cruz recovered.
When the action resumed Martin continued to turn the tide of the fight. His movement was very effective and his success with the left hand was consistent throughout rounds five through eight.
“Martin was super tough,” va dir la Cruz. “I didn’t think he would make it out of the second round but he definitely gave me problems. I was trying to stop him.”
Down on the scorecards because of the early knockdowns, Martin’s comeback effort came up short as Cruz was able to hold Martin off in the final two rounds on his way to earning the decision in the eyes of all three judges by the score of 96-92.
“I knew I was getting back into the fight but I’m not making any excuses aquesta nit,” va dir Martin. “He won the fight fair and square, congratulations to him.”
“I trained for Martin like he was the champion of the world and that’s how I’m going to train for every fight of my career,” va dir la Cruz. “It was a tremendous fight, Estic content d'haver aconseguit la victòria. I just want to go back to Puerto Rico and celebrate my birthday demà.”
Additional televised action saw Clarence Booth (15-3, 8 KOs) stop Puerto Rico’s Anthony Mercat (10-3, 9 KOs) in the fourth round of their welterweight contest.
The taller Mercado had success early in the fight while Booth tried to work his way inside and attack the body. Mercado landed a pair of clean right hands in each of the first two rounds that appeared to daze Booth.
“He was a tough fighter,” said Booth. “I needed to get loose for the first couple rounds. I was tense in the beginning.”
Fighting out of St. Petersburg, Florida, Booth was able to weather the storm in the first two rounds and began to turn the tide in round three with a clean right hand that staggered Mercado.
Booth kept the momentum going and quickly put Mercado on the canvas with a pair of right hands in the fourth round. Mercado was able to get to his feet but eventually Booth broke through again and stunned Mercado with more right hands. The final flurry prompted referee Eric Dali to call a halt to the bout 1:30 into the fourth frame.
“I had a couple of tough losses, but now I am on a major comeback,” said Booth. “I’m so happy to have this opportunity on television and I made the best of it. My promoter Marshall Kauffman and King’s Promotions will get me great opportunities in the future.”

Cruz and Martin first clashed on a PBC card this January, with both men looking to bolster their perfect records at the time. It was a matchup featuring two distinct styles as the lankier orthodox Cruz favored using power punches throughout the fight while the southpaw Martin tried to box and ride his speed and jab to victory. The young welterweights delivered consistent exciting exchanges before the decision went to the judges, who delivered a split decision with one judging scoring the fight for Martin and two favoring the work of Cruz.
“I won the first fight between us and I’m here to prove that,” va dir la Cruz. “I will be victorious again and this time everyone will be able to do it. I’m going to get the win in even more convincing fashion. I’m looking forward to this fight and I’m not planning on letting it go the distance.”

Nascut a Aguada, Puerto Rico and now residing in Lake Mary, Florida, the 26-year-old Cruz was a member of the Puerto Rico National Team as an amateur. A tall welterweight at 6’2″, James looks to bounce back after a decision loss to Yordenis Ugas last August in which the 28-year-old accepted the fight on less than a week’s notice. Lluitant fora de Minneapolis, Minnesota, James was unbeaten in his first 20 fights as a pro including impressive victories over Javier Molina and Wale Omotoso to begin his 2016 campanya.
Representing Anasco, Port Ric, Figueroa defeated previously once-beaten Ismat Eynullayev in March to get back in the win column after losing a narrow split-decision to the unbeaten Cruz last May. The 26-year-old won his first 10 professional fights including decisions over previously unbeaten fighters Javontae Starks and Fernando Paliza in 2015.

LAKELAND, FLORIDA (Maig 9, 2016) – Contenent invicte Ala Islam (21-0, 18 KOs) stopped Colombia’s Jesus De Angel (18-4-1, 17 KOs) in the sixth round ofDiumenge night’s main event on Lliga de Campions de Boxa: La Ronda Següent aRebot de TV from the Lakeland Center in Lakeland, Florida.
The rising 154-pounder from Kazakhstan stopped his ninth straight opponent inside the distance when De Angel fell to the canvas twice in round six prompting referee Telis Assimenios to halt the bout 22 segons a la ronda.
De Angel appeared to succumb to an ankle injury while taking a step backward that forced him to drop to the canvas. Islam sensed his moment and pounced on the injured brawler to put an end to the bout quickly. De Angel was taken to the emergency room after the fight due to the in-ring injury.
La 2004 Medallista de bronze olímpic, Islam was able to navigate around the four-inch reach advantage owned by De Angel and control the fight with his athleticism and powerful right hand. His first headlining appearance was a successful one as he looks to continue to climb the ladder towards a world title.
The co-main event of the evening saw Miguel Cruz (13-0, 11 KOs) take home a split decision victory over Samuel Figueroa (10-1, 4 KOs) in an eight-round back-and-forth battle of unbeaten welterweight prospects.
The friends turned rivals brought the action from the beginning as the smaller southpaw Figueroa aggressively attacked the body of Cruz in early exchanges. Cruz’s timing improved as the fight went on and his combinations began to land and stunt the attack of Figueroa.
Some of the best back-and-forth action came in round six as both fighters had found their way through the opponent’s defense. Cruz used his length to beat Figueroa to the punch, but Figueroa continued to throw punches and do plenty of damage throughout the heated final stanzas.
In a fight that appeared to be an even affair, the judges scores were 77-75 for Figueroa and 78-74 i 77-75 for Cruz to give him the split decision.

Suarez began to pick up the action in the second half of the fight landing several hard punches and challenging Galarza to exchange in the middle of the ring in round five. He landed perhaps the best combination of the fight in round six with a pair of punches that sent Galarza into retreat mode for the remainder of the round.

“There were a lot of fans from the Kazakhstan community here, a lot of fans who traveled from far places to see me fight. That meant a lot to me. I wanted to make sure they got to see everything I can do in the ring. Now I want them to see me win a world title this year.
“I feel like I can come back demà. I don’t want any longer breaks in my career. Vull grans baralles. Who are the champions? That is who I want to fight.”
MIGUEL CRUZ
“I know that I won the fight in the end, but it was a hard fight, a very tough fight. I was landing the cleaner shots but there were times where he was putting the pressure on me. He hurt me with body shots and he actually managed to hurt me in the last round with a right hook. I recognized when he hurt me and I hit him and hurt him right back. I had him hurt a couple of times.
“I knew he was a tough guy from when we fought in the amateurs and from when we sparred together. He made me bring something out of me that I didn’t even know I had and I appreciate him for that.
“This was the toughest fight of my career. Ara, I want to rest and relax, but within the next 2-3 months I’ll start looking at the guys that can get me closer to a world title.
“The fight’s over, we can absolutely go back to being friends. It’s business. They told us we had to fight each other. We’re better fighters for it and now it’s over and back to the way it was between us as far as I’m concerned.”
SAMUEL FIGUEROA
“I didn’t think Miguel won the fight but that’s how the judges seen that. I don’t know how, but I can’t do anything about that. The first rounds I hit him clear in the face, Miguel only caught me with a couple of clean shots but I was catching a lot of his punches with my hands and elbows. I don’t know how I lost this fight.
“I love fighting unbeaten opponents. I train with champions in the gym, I have the resources to get me ready for these fights.
“Yes of course we go back to being friends. Nothing personal. He’s my friend. We’re cool.”
DENNIS GALARZA
“It felt good to go eight rounds. I didn’t mind going rounds, although I wanted to take him out. He was throwing a lot of wild shots just looking to catch me with a lucky blow. He caught me with some good shots but he never had me hurt. I train with southpaws all the time and was ready for anything Yardley Suarez had to offer.
“I want to come back as soon as possible. Whatever my team has in store for me, Vaig a estar llest.”
YARDLEY SUAREZ
“I had him hurt but feel like I let the opportunity get away from me. No estava prou ocupat; I need to let my hands go more. My corner told me that I needed a knockout to win. I went for it, but I couldn’t slow him down and land enough punches.

Nguyen of Vero Beach, Florida hasn’t had the typical layoff of getting out of shape and thinking about missed opportunities.

“I have been training the whole time. I own a gym here in Vero Beach and I have been training people for the past six years, so I have been in shape. Sure it is not professional competition but I am able to stay busy and am ready for the fight diumenge,” said Nguyen. “I haven;t fought in a while, but I have no fear of ring rust. I been sparring and going through boxing techniques the whole time.”
Nguyen was cruising along as a heralded prospect at 11-0 before losing a split decision to Gregorio Torres. Nguyen then won six straight before dropping back to back fights to Luis Del Valle and future world title challenger Jayson Velez.
“The first loss was a bad decision. The second loss, I was so winded after five rounds that I don’t know what happened. The third loss to Velez, I also thought that I won that fight. I just think under better circumstances that I would have won those fights. I know a lot of good stuff was said about me on the way up and I still think that I am championship material. I just have not had that opportunity.”
To gain that opportunity, Nguyen turned to the man, who turned him professional twelve years ago in King’s Promotions Marshall Kauffman.
“Marshall is a father figure to me. He trained me in 2004 i twelve years later I am back with him. I have learned the business and now I am with a good promoter. If I would have stayed with Marshall, I would be world champion. I have the skills and Marshall knows boxing. Now that I am back with him, he will get me that opportunity. I live a clean and healthy life and now it is time that I reach my potential as a boxer.”

ORLANDO (Octubre 31, 2015) – Malik “Rei” De Scott (38-2-1, 13 KOs) guanyat un enfrontament pes pesat amb Tony “El Tigre” Thompson (40-6, 27 KOs) a Lliga de Campions de Boxa: La Ronda Següent a Rebot de TV Divendres nit de la seu a la UCF a Orlando.
Scott controlava la major part de l'acció thoughout la batalla a 10 assalts en l'ús del seu moviment superior a controlar el ritme de la baralla. Com ho ha fet al llarg de la seva carrera, Thompson es va negar a cedir i va anotar una gran caiguda amb una mà tronant just a la novena ronda.
La baralla anava a acabar anant la distància, amb els tres jutges van donar la baralla a Scott per desenes de 98-91, 96-93 i 95-94.

ORLANDO, Florida (Octubre 7, 2015) – Un xoc de pes pesat entre Tony “El Tigre” Thompson (40-5, 27 KOs) i Malik “Rei” De Scott (37-2-1, 13 KOs) encapçalarà Lliga de Campions de Boxa (PBC) – La Ronda Següent a Rebot de TV i BounceTV.com a Divendres, Octubre 30 de la seu a la UCF, situat darrere de la CFE Sorra a Orlando, Fla.

També és propietari d'un parell de victòries sobre pes pesat anunciat David Price, qui va deixar dues vegades lluitant al país d'origen del seu oponent.
Un pes pesat aconseguit des de Filadèlfia, Scott també ha lluitat professionalment des 2000 i va desgranar 35-victòries consecutives per començar la seva carrera professional. El seu més recent victòria va ser potser el seu més impressionant com ell va viatjar a Austràlia i va derrotar a Alex Lepeai. El 34-anys d'edat, també és propietària d'una aturada ronda final de Bowie Tupou en 2012 i va lluitar invicte Vyacheslav Glazkov a un empat en 2013.
Un atleta multi-esport que ha competit tant en boxa i arts marcials mixtes professionalment, Rodes d'Oklahoma City s'assembla a romandre invicte en Octubre 30. El jugador de 27 anys d'edat, ve d'una fracció d'empat competitiu amb Jared Robinson al juny. Abans d'aquesta baralla, Rodes va registrar quatre victòries en 2014 incloent triomfs sobre Miguel Angel Horta i John Nater.
Un aficionat consumat que va néixer a Kazakhstan però baralla a Rússia, Lipinets es va convertir en professional en abril de l'any passat amb una victòria per decisió sobre Franklin Varela. El jugador de 26 anys d'edat, ha enregistrat sis nocauts consecutius des de llavors, amb les seves victòries més recents venir veterans Kendal Mena i Cosme Rivera. Lipinets lluitaran al U.S. per quarta vegada en Octubre 30.
Lluitant fora de Minneapolis, Minnesota, Starks va acumular una impressionant 98-16 rècord amateur abans de fer-se professional en 2009. El jugador de 26 anys d'edat, ha incrementat l'activitat des 2014, gravació de set victòries, incloent victòries sobre Carlos Galván i Jeremies Wiggins en 2015.
