De La Hoya begrenset en 223-5 (153 KOs) amatørkarriere ved å ta lettvektsgull på 1992 OL. Han ble proff samme år og tok sin første verdenstittel – WBO superfjærvekt – i bare sin 12. proffkamp og ville fortsette å vinne 10 verdenstitler i seks vektdivisjoner.

Blant mesterne han beseiret inkluderer Jorge Paez, John John Molina, Rafael Ruelas, Genaro Hernandez, Ike Quartey, Fernando Vargas, Ricardo Mayorga og Hall of Famers Hector Camacho, Julio Cesar Chavez, Pernell Whitaker og Arturo Gatti.

“Zurdo” fighting for his legacy, 41-0 Gilberto Ramirez on mission to join elusive 50-0 club

LAS VEGAS (Mai 19, 2021) – Only five boxers have started their professional careers with a 50-fight win streak and the contemporary leader, 41-0 Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez is on a mission to join the exclusive club, continuing July 9th in Los Angeles againstSullivan Barrera (22-3, 14 KOs). 

Ramirez, who recently signed an exclusive promotional contract withOscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, was the first Mexican-born super middleweight World champion, and he is currently the No. 3 rated light heavyweight in the world, av World Boxing Association (WBA) og World Boxing Organization (WBO). 

Although he won’t turn 30 until June 19, Ramirez has been fighting professionally for nearly 12 år, and one of his goals is to become a World champion in two different weight classes. Another is joining his idol and fellow Mexican, Julio Cesar Chavez i 50-0 Club, in which he is No. 1 having amazingly won his first 87 pro fights. The first blemish on his pro record was a 12-round majority draw with the greatPernell Whitaker i 1993 in their WBC World welterweight title fight.

    “Getting to 50-0 is very important, but I’m more interested in being able to fight the fights the fans want,” Ramirez said. “I’ve never turned down a fight and have made it clear to all the fighters I want. I look across the division and none of these fighters are on my level”

    Chavez moved ahead of featherweight iconWill Pepved 62, Do Not. 2 on the contemporary list, compiled in less than three years dating back to the 1940’s. Pep lost for the first time as a pro toSammy Angott by 10-round decision in 1943.

    Thailand mini-flyweightWanheng Menayothin, originally a Muay Thai fighter, had his streak snapped last November at 54 avPanya Pradabsri. 

    Another Mexican boxer is in the 50-0 Club, Do Not. 4 Carlos Zarate, who reached 52 straight victories off his pro debut, 51 etter knockout, in the 1970’s. Zarate was stopped in his 53rd fight by Puerto Rican starWilfredo Gomez in the fifth round of their 1978 WBC super bantamweight World championship match.

    The only member of the exclusive 50-0 Club to retire undefeated is Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. in fifth place with 50.

    The four inactive boxers in the club – Chavez, Pep, Zarate, and Mayweather – are inducted in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

    Rocky Marciano ogBrian Nielson (49), Larry Holmes (48), Ricardo Lopez (47), Joe Calzaghe (46-0) ogJim Barry (45) all came close to 50-0 memberships. Lopez (51-0-1) fought a draw in his 48th pro fight withRosendo Alvarez. 

    Ramirez is closing in on boxing history as he fights for his legacy. Five years after he retires, “Zurdo” should rightfully join the four Hall of Famers who are presently ahead of him on the 50-Club list.

“Zurdo” targets Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol

LAS VEGAS (Mars 31, 2021) – Former world super middleweight championGilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs) is on the hunt and his targets are undefeated Russians, Artur Beterbiev ogDmitry Bivol, henholdsvis, the reigning WBC/IBF and WBA Super light heavyweight World champions.

The 29-year-old Ramirez, who recently signed an exclusive promotional contract withOscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, is currently ranked No. 4 og Nei. 5, henholdsvis, by the WBA and WBO.

Ramirez was unimpressed by Beterbiev’s recent fight and he wonders where Bivol has been the past 1 ½ år, because he hasn’t been in the ring.

In his first fight in 519 dager (Oktober. 12, 2019), Beterbiev showed signs of rust and possibly age (36) during his 10th round technical knockout of his relatively unknown German opponent, Adam Deines (19-2-1, 10 KOs).  Nå, Beterbiev is talking about next fighting the winner of the April 10th Joe Smith, Jr. (26-3, 21 KOs) versusMaxim Vlasov (45-3, 26 KOs) på April 10th for the vacant WBO 175-pound division title. Vlasov, forresten, was defeated by Ramirez via a 10-round unanimous decision in 2015.

“I expected a lot more from him (Beterbiev),” Ramirez talked about Beterbiev’s fight with Deines. “I thought he looked flat and dull for the majority of the fight. It’s nice of him to temporarily hold my belts, but he should know that I’m coming for all the hardware and will bring the titles back to my people in Mexico.”

Bivol hasn’t thrown a punch during a fight in 17 måneder, since winning a 12-round unanimous decision againstLenin Castillo.  Instead of returning against a “name” fighter in defense of his WBA Super title, Bivol will be returning May 1st in London against somebody namedCraig “Spider” Richards 16-1-1, 9 KOs), the WBA No. 8-rated light heavyweight who has never fought outside the United Kingdom.

“I’ve always said Dmitry Bivol was the toughest challenge out there,” Ramirez added, “which is why I want to make this fight happen. I know he’s got a fight coming up and hopefully he stays undefeated so we can make the mega-fight this summer.”

LAS VEGAS (Mars 1, 2021) – Undefeated world light heavyweight contender and former world super middleweight champion, Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs), recently signed an exclusive promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions, primarily because of the strong support he will receive fromOscar De Lay Hoya and his team.

“Ultimately,” the 29-year-old Ramirez explained, “Golden Boy understood the goals and agendas I set for myself and I felt the strong support from Oscar and his team. It’s a multi-fight deal with potential for something longer pending this first experience. From all the conversations my team and I have had with Golden Boy, I felt comfortable with them and the future opportunities that will arise from our relationship.

“Oscar is a great guy and it’s been nothing but a pleasure dealing with him and his team. As my relationship with Golden Boy continues to grow, I’m sure we (Oscar) will become closer. He’s a champion and one of the greatest to ever lace up the gloves. I look forward to working to him closely.”

Ramirez’ goal is to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion world, something he will have a better shot of accomplishing with Golden Boy in his corner.

"(WBA Super light heavyweight World championDmitry) Bivol (17-0, 11 KOs) is someone who has always been on the radar and I have full faith in (Golden Boy matchmaker) Robert Diaz to put together the best fights for me,” Ramirez added. “Unification has always been the goal. I know I’m the best in the division and hope to make this happens for the history books in the near future.”

This past December, Ramirez launched his own promotional company, Zurdo Promotions, which will remain active.

“Zurdo Promotions will continue and stay active,” Ramirez said. “Going forward, all my fights with Golden Boy will be in association with Zurdo Promotions. I will host fights in Mexico to be a bridge between Latin America and the United States. There’s tremendous talent in that region and I hope to use my platform to help and support the underserved fighters in Mexico.”

Steward var en bokser, ekstraordinær trener, og HBO-kommentator til hans alt for tidlige død i 2012 i en alder av 68. Boksekarrieren hans kulminerte med hans introduksjon til International Boxing Hall of Fame i 1996.

 

 

 

I en alder av 12, Manny flyttet sammen med sin mor fra West Virginia til Detroit, hvor livet hans snart ble til boksing. Som en amatør bokser, han kompilerte en 94-3 rekord, markert med en gullmedalje ytelse på 1963 National Golden Gloves Tournament som bantamvekt, men han bestemte seg for å ikke prøve seg for det amerikanske olympiske bokselaget.

Ingen andre ga meg den anerkjennelsen. Han var ydmyk og ikke en slaghard, min type fyr.”

 

 

 

Emanuel Steward satte sitt preg på jorden, ikke bare som en mangefasettert personlighet i boksing, men han huskes også for sitt storsinnede veldedighetsarbeid i Detroit, der han hjalp ungdommer i jakten på utdanning.

 

 

 

Kort oppsummert, skjønt, han lærte boksing, og ingen har noen gang gjort det bedre.

New York by (November 7, 2018): Golden Boy Promotions and FITE announced today that the third encounter of UFC Hall of Famers Tito Ortiz (19-12-1 MMA) and Chuck Liddell (21-8 MMA), taking place on Saturday Nov 24th at The “Fabulous” Forum in Inglewood, Calif., will stream live around the world on the FITE digital streaming network as part of the partnership deal with Golden Boy Promotions. Bell time for the PPV broadcast is 9:00pm ET/6:00pm PT.

 

 

FITE will stream the trilogy fight on its platform, live on digital pay per view to a worldwide audience of viewers. Pre-orders are available now on the www.FITE.TV website, FITE mobile apps for iOS, Android, and the FITE channel on Amazon Fire, Android, Apple TV, and Roku on a PPV basis.

The resumes of Liddell and Ortiz speak for themselves as both fought the most important fighters of their era. The two first fought in the UFC cage in 2004 after months of trash talk in which Liddell said he always dominated Ortiz in sparring during their past training sessions together. Liddell won the fight in spectacular fashion via KO, but the grudge was far from over. I 2006 the two faced off again with Ortiz vowing he would even the score. Ortiz fared much better in the second encounter but again succumbed to Liddell via referee stoppage TKO.

 

 

Tito Ortiz returns to the cage after a submission win over Chael Sonnen back in January 2017 to fight for redemption against his longtime rival Chuck Liddell. Liddell, coming out of retirement, is fighting to make it a perfect 3-0 over the “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” and to close the door on a feud that has spanned more than a decade. With a rivalry this intense and emotions still running high, this trilogy fight has fighters and fans from multiple generations excited to see the final chapter of one of the biggest rivalries of all time!

(Oktober 19, 2017, 2017) – Hans introduksjon til Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame (CBHOF) på lørdag natt, Oktober 28, som en del av klassen med seks medlemmer 2017, vil avslutte boksekarrieren til avtroppende dommer Clark Sammartino ved 13TH årlig CBHOF Gala Induksjon Middag i Uncas Ballroom på Mohegan Sun.
De andre nye CBHOF-innsatte er pionerbokser “Professor” Charles Hadley, ringlege Dr. Tony Alessi, dommer / dommer Dick Flaherty, boksing forfatter Dan Parker og bokser / boksebidragsyter Hugh Devlin, Sr.
Utdannet ved Brown University, den nå 80 år gamle Sammartino har hatt to andre karrierer som oral kirurg og investeringsrådgiver hos Blue Fin i Providence, i tillegg til sin rolle som internasjonal boksedommer siden 1985.
“Jeg begynte først med boksing pga Joey Angelo giftet seg med kusinen min,” Sammartino forklarte. “Han kjempet tilbake på begynnelsen av førtitallet. Joey kjempet mot Willie Pep to ganger og Sandy Saddler. Det var det som fikk meg i gang. Vi pleide å ha det flotte Mandag Night Fights på Rhode Island Auditorium og jeg husker at jeg så Rocky Marciano slåss “Tiger” Ted Lowry der.”
Fordi han var en vellykket oralkirurg, Clark kunne ta lange helger for å dømme kamper over hele verden. Hans første og mest minneverdige verdenstittelkamp var Vinny Paz-Greg Haughn I. Gjennom sin lange karriere, Sammartino dømte mer enn 400 pro kamper, Inkludert 50 store verdenstittelkamper.

Sammartino, som stolt sier at han aldri gikk glipp av en dag med jobb 40 år, har bestemt seg for å pensjonere seg, selv om han vil forbli en boksefans resten av livet. “Jeg begynte å bremse ned i min alder, gjør lokale show og kanskje tre eller fire verdenstittelkamper i året, mest WBO og IBF,” bemerket Sammartino. “Jeg hadde en tøff kamp med lungebetennelse tidligere 5-6 måneder og det gjorde arbeidet vanskelig.”
Hans CBHOF-induksjon er en passende avslutning og en enorm hyllest til Sammartino og hans karriere innen boksing. “Jeg er ydmyk over å bli innlemmet i Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame,” han sa. “Dette er en fin måte å avslutte karrieren min på.”
