“NEW ENGLAND EXPLOSION” OFFICIAL RESULTS

SPRINGFIELD, Massa. (December 13, 2019) — Rising Connecticut starsRICHIE “POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN” RIVERA en“ACTION“ ANTHONY LAUREANO both remained undefeated with impressive performance tonight on a solid “New England Explosion” card in front of an enthusiastic crowd at MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

“New England Explosion,” presented byJOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING, sponsored by MGM Springfield, aired live in a first for New England Sports Network (NESN), and streamed worldwide (excluding N.E.) opwww.FITE.TV.

Heavy-handed Rivera (nu 16-0, 12 KO) took his power up to the cruiserweight division against “MIGHTY” JOE JONES(nu 11-2, 8 KO), who unexplainably kept his hands very low, as “Popeye” pounded him to the head and body in the main event. Rivera hit Jones with everything but the kitchen sink, in what looked like batting practice at times, although “Popeye” failed to register a stoppage for only the third time in 16 pro fights. .

It was a rough, physical fight that got chippy early with both fighters exchanging trash talk and showboating. Rivera, who hails from Hartford, pressed the action throughout the fight against a defensive Jones, who switched to a peep-a-boo style in the later rounds.

“I’m strong to the finish because I eat my spinach….toot, toot! My coach kept telling me to relax but, eerlijk, I was putting on a show. More or less, I was acting,” Rivera talked about the roughhousing. “He was tough. My team said to box. The plan wasn’t to go for a knockout. I threw some big shots just to let him know.

“I’m so happy to have had my seventh fight this year. I’ve been active and I’m undefeated. I try to put on a show for the fans and be a role model.”

In de co-main event, Laureano (nu 13-0, 4 KO), een 2016 New England Golden Gloves champion from nearby East Hartford, CT., defeated Texas super lightweightANGEL “AZTEC WARRIOR” HERNANDEZ (17-14-2, 11 KO) in a toe-to-toe battle from the opening . This TV-friendly fight could have been fought in a proverbial phone booth. Laureano, zoals gewoonlijk, was relentless in his attack, systematically breaking down his opponent with strong body work of his own, as well as seemingly landing uppercuts and left hooks at will.

Laureano took control in the second and never let up against a game Hernandez, die, like Laureano, never stopped throwing punches. Eventually, Laureano won an 8-round unanimous decision in a wildly entertaining, highly competitive clash.

“It was beautiful,” Laureano commented. “I like wars, my trainers don’t. I let my emotions take over. It was a beautiful fight, hoewel, all action and the people loved it. But I fought his fight. I did adapt and showed some of my boxing ability at some points.

Bordoy effectively and consistently beat Nzau to the punch, moved well inside the ropes, and never put himself in dire straits. “It felt good,” Bordoy said after the fight. “The game plan was to out-box him, use my job, and not take any unnecessary chances. I followed the game plan and came out with an easy victory.

“I knew he had some power and he caught me with a good punch early. I watched some tape of him and listened to my trainers. I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible.”

In a battle of welterweight southpaws, woonplaats favorietDERRICK “BAD BOY” WHITLEY II (6-1-1) suffered a cut over his right eye from an accidental headbutt byJERMAINE CORLEY (3-8, 1 KO) during the second round. The ringside physician halted the action after two rounds and the fight, by rule, was a “no decision.”

This will be my third fight here.

“I’m popular in my city because I played football here in high school. It’s been a thrill for me to still have my family and fans watching me. They’ve always supported me. It’s been pretty crazy for this fight.”

WORCESTER, Massa. (Augustus 19, 2018) – Zeven jaar na zijn laatste gevecht, “De Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera gisteravond op grootse wijze terug naar de ring (Zaterdag) aan de kop “Thuiskomst, gepresenteerd door Granite Chin Promotions in samenwerking met Rivera Promotions Entertainment, The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.

 

 

 

De 45-jarige Rivera (42-6-1, 25 KO), 35 kilo lichter dan hij was in februari toen hij begon met trainen, pakte het huis in zijn geboorteplaats in, vermaakte zijn ondersteunende fans volledig. Drie-time, wereldkampioen in twee divisies Rivera zette zich onder druk Larry “Slomoshun: Smid (10-38-1, 7 KO) vanaf de openingsbel en hij gaf nooit op.

 

 

 

Het duurde een paar rondes voordat Rivera de roest had versleten, maar hij gaf Smith een vast dieet van bodyshots, geleidelijk zijn tegenstander afbrekend, terwijl hij ronde na ronde op punten won. Twee keer in de zesde ronde leek het erop dat Smith klaar was, maar de stoere Texaan toonde veel moed om te overleven.

 

 

 

Eindelijk, Rivera sloot de show af in de zevende ronde, toen Smith zijn hand brak in de vijfde ronde en niet verder kon, knielend in zijn hoek, duidelijk pijn.

 

 

 

“Ik ben altijd stoer geweest,” zei Rivera na het gevecht, “maar ik was een beetje roestig. Hij testte me vroeg, maar, Toen hij eenmaal zag dat ik nergens heen ging, wist hij dat hij ruzie zou krijgen. Ik begon met de warming-up in de vierde ronde. Ik was altijd een 12-rondenvechter. Ook voor het eerst thuis gevochten, Gray schoot zijn tegenstander uit het spel, hem kraken met een perfecte foto, linkse gevechtscombinatie die Fernandez op zijn rug zette. Fernandez versloeg de teller, maar scheidsrechter Bob Benoit stopte de actie.

 

 

Southbridge, MA junior middengewicht Wilfredo “de Sucaro” Heidens (5-0, 3 KO) bleef ongeslagen, een meedogenloze lichaamsaanval gebruiken om te laten vallen Engelberto “Guarura” Valenzuela (11-15, 3 KO) drie keer, de laatste beëindigde het gevecht halverwege de derde ronde.

 

 

 

Springfield, MA junior lichtgewicht Joshua Orta (1-0, 1 KO) leverde een indrukwekkend profdebuut op in een schuurbrander dat eindigde toen (1-8-1, 1 KO), van Worcester, kon na de derde ronde niet verder vechten.

 

 

 

Worcester weltergewicht Eslih Owuso (1-0) gooide een shutout in zijn profdebuut, terrasveteraan Bryan “De baksteen” Abraham (6-31-2, 6 KO) twee keer in de tweede ronde, op weg naar een unaniem besluit te winnen.

WORCESTER, Massa. (Augustus 15, 2018) – Drie-time, twee-divisie wereldkampioen “De Gallo” José Rivera heeft een nieuwe tegenstander voor zijn comeback-gevecht deze vrijdagavond “Thuiskomst”, gepresenteerd door Granite Chin Promotions (GCP) in samenwerking met Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), The Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.

 

 

 

De 45-jarige Rivera (41-6-1, 24 KO), tegen wie werd gematcht Ruben “Moderne strijder” Galvan, kwam er pas gisteren achter (Dinsdag) dat Galvan de avond ervoor een vinger had gebroken. Texaanse veteraan Larry “Slomoshun” Smid (10-37-1, 7 KO) is de late vervanger van Rivera in het hoofdevenement van acht ronden.

 

 

 

“Ik ben geen fan van late veranderingen,” zei Rivera, “maar op dit punt is het dat of geen gevecht, en ik heb te hard getraind om niet te vechten.”

 

 

 

Rivera heeft voor het laatst gevochten 2011, een beslissing in acht ronden nemen Paul Mpendo, in de Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut.

 

 

 

De naam van het evenement is “Thuiskomst” omdat vijf strijders in actie uit Worcester komen, waaronder drie die daar nog nooit als professionals hebben gevochten.

 

 

 

Super middengewicht Kendrick Ball, Jr. (9-1-2, 6 KO) en junior middengewicht Khiary Gray(15-4, 11 KO), beide gepromoot door CES Boxing, zal voor het eerst thuis in Worcester als profs vechten in een paar gevechten van zes ronden. (Juli 19, 2018) – Granite Chin-promoties (GCP) and Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE) hosted a press conference yesterday at The Ballot Box in Worcester, Massachusetts, to make a major announcement, as well as introduce local fighters on the August 17thpro boxing card at The Palladium in Worcester.

 

 

 

Drie-time, twee-divisie wereldkampioen “De Gallo” Jose Antonio Rivera (41-6-1, 24 KO) is making his return in the “Making History” main event, in large part because he wanted to fight on the same card as his son, A.J. Rivera, who was to become the first pro boxer who was born with Spina Bifida. A.J., who is a rising matchmaker in New England, was unable to get medically cleared in time and he will not be fighting Aug. 17.

 

 

 

The event has been renamed, “Thuiskomst”, because six of the competing fighters, including Jose Antonio Rivera, live in Worcester.

 

 

 

“Helaas,” announced promoter Chuck Shears, who co-promotes Granite Chin Promotions with Chris Traietti, “A.J. isn’t fighting on this show because he couldn’t get medically cleared in time.”

 

 

 

“I trained hard and was within five or six pounds of my contract weight,” a disappointed A.J. Rivera uitgelegd. “I passed all of the medical tests except for the CATSCAN. Rivera, because they will be “Making History,” presented by Rivera Promotions Entertainment and Granite Chin Promotions, Augustus 17 at The Palladium.

Twenty-five-year-old A.J. will fight an opponent to be determined in a four-round welterweight match. He is a graduate of Johnson & Wales with a major in sports management, who has quickly become one of the most respected matchmakers in New England.

 

 

 

A.J. grew-up in a gym, watching his father train, and he also fought as an amateur boxer. “I’ve always wanted to fight as a pro and what better way than to make my pro debut on the same card headlined by my pops,” zei Rivera. “This is a one and done, I’m not going to box as a career and, hopefully I will leave the ring on August 17th and retire undefeated. I plan to make matchmaking a career. I can stay in the sport I’ve always loved and matchmake for our company and for other promoters.

 

 

 

“I was born with Spina Bifida. A layer of skin covered a hole in my back, preventing water from getting in, which would have damaged my system and left me paralyzed, unable to speak and with a shunt in my head to drain fluid. The doctors told my parents that, if I survived, I’d only live to be 19, in a wheelchair and a little autistic. I had surgery the next day and my pops kept hope. As I got older, I played basketball, voetbal, baseball and boxed. I was inactive for seven years when I went away to school and started matchmaking.”

 

 

 

In addition to sacrificing to make weight, instead of having a Father’s Day cookout, he watched what he ate and, natuurlijk, workout with his father in the gym to prepare for his pro debut.

Undefeated prospect Marrero hires Galante as manager

Danbury, CT (Mei 19, 2017) – Rising Junior Welterweight Cristobal ‘Bazooka’ Marrero (4-0, 2KO's, New London, CT) has bolstered his camp by hiring A.J. Galante as his manager.

Galante, van Danbury, CT, has been managing and advising professional boxers for 6 jaar. In addition to Marrero, Galante currently manages Omar ‘The Beast’ Bordoy (1-0, Danbury, CT) and is an adviser to Frank ‘Notorious’ Galarza (17-2-2, 11KO's, Brooklyn, NY). He notably managed the career of Delvin Rodriguez (29-4-4, 16KO's, Danbury, CT) from his fight of the year against Pawel Wolak in 2011, to his HBO Main Event bout against Miguel Cotto in 2013.

Galante thinks with a good plan in place, the sky is the limit for the 22 year old Marrero. “I’m really excited and appreciative to be hired by Cristobal. It’s always humbling when somebody of his talent and caliber seeks you and wants you to be part of their team. He has all the tools, the hunger, amateur experience (82 gevechten), and personality to be a star. I’ve been brought onboard to monitor and add structure to his camp, and map out the future both for the short and long term. I’m looking forward to working with and building a successful relationship with his promoter, Jimmy Burchfield and CES, one of the most respected names in professional boxing.”

In speaking with Marrero, it’s clear to see he is optimistic on his future. “My Dad and I have followed A.J. and have seen the great things he has been doing with everybody that he handles, as well as his gym and amateur program. When we met with him the first time, we left knowing this was a guy we could trust, and has what it takes to take me to the next level, we knew we had to hire him. He is a man of his word and I’m so excited about some of the ideas he has for my career. It just makes me hungrier!”

Danbury, Connecticut’s Bordoy Turns Professional

Februari 14, 2017 (Danbury, CT) – One day after turning 22 jaar, Omar Bordoy formally announced he has turned professional. Family and friends gathered at Champs Boxing Club in Danbury, CT Maandag night for a press conference in where Bordoy, nicknamed The Beast, signed his license and declared he is entering the pro ranks.

Bordoy, who is of Puerto Rican descent, was born and raised in the rough Mill Ridge section of Danbury, CT. A born fighter, he started boxing at 13 years old under the tutelage of former World Kickboxing Champion Bennie ‘The Jet’ Little. After nearly six years of competing in the amateurs, Bordoy’s resume is littered with achievements such as the CT J.O. State Champion, CT Golden Gloves Champion, various Regional and National tournament qualifiers, and countless fighter and fight of the night awards. His exciting boxing style has had people in Connecticut constantly asking, “When will he go pro.”

“I have nothing more to prove in the amateurs.” Stated Bordoy, who plans on competing at 135 pounds professionally, “I have been dreaming of this moment since I was 13. There were times I felt ready to make that jump, but something held me back. But now is the time, Ik ben klaar. I have had a lot stacked against me but I never quit. My motivation is to provide a better life for my family, to make Danbury proud and to bring a World Championship to Connecticut.”

Bordoy is currently trained by former professional and New York City amateur standout Luis Marichal. Marichal, who trains at Champs Boxing Club in Danbury promises excitement from his first professional boxer, “Omar is ready. We have been training extremely hard every day. Sparring has been great, we have been all over for sparring and he has shown me he can handle what is to come. I feel he is being overlooked by others who have flashier amateur records and backgrounds, but that’s what motivates our team, we are ready to unleash the beast!”

Bordoy will be under the watchful eye of A.J. Galante. Galante, 30, has managed and advised fighters such as Delvin Rodriguez, Frank Galarza, Eleser Ortega, among others since 2011. He also promoted Danbury Fight Night in May of 2015, in Danbury, CT. Galante hopes to see Bordoy in action sometime in March, “We are looking at a bunch of options for Omar. March is the target, and obviously I’d like to get him in the ring as many times as possible in 2017. I am very excited to be part of Team Bordoy.”
