MIAMI, FLA. (Juli 17, 2025)- WBA Heavyweight contender Michael “The Bounty” Hunter is ready to show the world that he means business in the heavyweight division. Hunter is looking forward to his bout with WBA Heavyweight World Champion Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev.

The world’s greatest promoter, Don King, who won the $1.1 million purse bid by the WBA and Hunter’s promoter, has stated that it is all systems “go” for the title fight.

While Epic Sports and Entertainment representatives, who embarrassed the WBA at the purse bid, continue to spread lies that Hunter is unavailable for this fight…this fight will be taking place for the WBA Heavyweight Championship.

“Yesterday Don King and Noel Mikaelian slammed Jake Paul, and today, the great Michael Hunter and Don King are in the process of slamming Epic Sports and Entertainment and bringing boxing back to we the people,” said King. “Thank you, Michael; you are truly a smart bounty hunter.

The Southern California native Hunter (24-1-2, 17 Kos) won the vacant WBA Gold Heavyweight Title in June, taking out Cassius Chaney in a 12-round unanimous decision at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla. In his last fight in December, Hunter registered a fifth-round TKO over Christian Larrondo Garcia in Mexico. Hunter’s only career setback came back in 2017 when he lost a unanimous 12-round decision to current Oleksandr Usyk, who in December beat Tyson Fury to become just the third boxer to become an undisputed world champion in the two weight divisions in the “four-belt era.”

MIAMI (Maj 28, 2025)-Hall of Fame Boxing PromoterDon King has won a $1.1 million purse bid from the WBA for the right to promote a world title fight featuring current WBA (Regular) Heavyweight VärldsmästareKubrat “The Cobra” Pulevfacing WBA No. 2 utmanareMichael “The Bounty” Hunter på lördag, Augusti 23 at a site to be determined.

It will be a true week of celebration during Fight Week as King will be celebrating his 94th birthday on August 20. King said the location for the fight will be determined at a later date with Florida, Las Vegas, Ohio and Pennsylvania among the potential sites.

Fighting in his hometown of Sofia, bulgarien, the crowd-favorite 44-year-old Pulev (32-3, 14 Kos) won the WBA (Regular) World Championship with his 12-round unanimous decision win over Mahmoud Charr last December.

(Maj 31, 2018) – Rugged veteran heavyweight Travis Kauffman kommer att ta på Scott Alexander in a 10-round bout that headlines Premier Boxning Champions på FS1 and FOX Deportes action that features three heavyweight showdowns on Sunday, Juni 10 from Pioneer Event Center in Lancaster, Kalifornien.

“I am excited to get back in the ring,” sade Kauffman. “I have not been in the ring in a year and a half and I can’t wait to go in there and show that I still have a lot left. I am not going in there to win by decision. I am going in there looking to knock him out, because I am tired of leaving it up to the judges.”

 

 

 

The 29-year-old Alexander (14-2-2, 8 Kos) has put together two straight victories since losing to LaRon Mitchell by unanimous decision in 2016. Slåss av Los Angeles, Alexander is noted for his fast hands, and scored a TKO victory over Pedro Julio Rodriguez in his last fight on March 3.

“I don’t compare myself to other cruiserweights in the division, I know I’m the best. I’m always looking to win impressively, and I look to put on a great performance for the fansFredag natt.

“This is a step up as far as competition compared to the past, with him being an undefeated cruiserweight. He’s a good, long-ranging southpaw. We are actually around the same age; we were in the amateurs at the same time, but never fought each other.Fredag, I aim to win impressively. I don’t want to say I’m going for the knockout, if it happens it happens, but hopefully we can get it.

 

“Although I’ve fought on TV quite a few times before, this is going to be a good show with Mayweather Promotions. I’m thankful to be fighting on the undercard of my good friend Andrew Tabiti. That’s an honor, to be honest. It’s going to be great that my family and friends outside of Las Vegas will be able to tune in to watch me, so that’s a blessing.

 

“I wouldn’t say I’m satisfied with the way my career is going. I can’t complain because I have no losses, I just wish it would go at a little faster pace. I’m a two-time Olympian and in the amateurs we’re used to fighting 4-5 times out of the week, so adjusting to fighting once every few months or so feels a little stagnant to me. I really try not to think too far into the future, I try to live in the moment, but I hope to get a title shot relatively soon.

“I went into training camp right after my last fight, so it’s been about eight weeks. There’s always ups and downs in training, but as long as you keep a positive spirit, everything will end up going perfectly well. So it’s been going good I can’t complain. I usually train out of the Mayweather Boxing Club, but there’s been some construction going on so we have moved it to Fight Capitol and a few other places.

“I have been changing my training just to better myself, not necessarily for my opponent or for this fight.

 

“You have to be a little more focused in the Mayweather Gym. There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t really happen in a normal gym simply because he is Floyd so it will bring it out of you or it won’t. Only the strongest survive.”

 

Isiah THOMAS

 

"Fredag is a good thing for up-and-coming, American cruiserweights. There are a lot of us in the division looking to make our mark. Not just myself. This is our chance to show that America has good fighters in the cruiserweight division. It’s the perfect showcase.

Hunter, son of former heavyweight contender Michael Hunter Sr., is a two-time national amateur champion who competed at the 2012 OS. Since making his pro debut in March 2013 by defeating Chad Davis, the up-and-coming 27-year-old hasn’t come close to losing. He’s won his last four fights by knockout, all inside four rounds. A top-notch amateur, Thomas turned pro in 2008 and won his initial three starts by first-round knockout. ANAHEIM, Calif. (Februari. 27, 2016) – Lion “Jordskalv” Santa Cruz defended his WBA Featherweight World Championship in convincing fashion på lördag natt, knocking down Kiko “Sensación” Martinez twice in the first round, then ending it on a barrage of punches as the fight was called at 2:09 in the fifth round in the main event of a Showtime MÄSTERSKAP BOXNING doubleheader at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
I co-funktionen på Showtime, 29-åriga Hugo Ruiz (36-3, 31 Kos), Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexiko, regained his WBC Super Bantamweight World Title with a devastating early knockdown with just 51 seconds into the 12-round fight against 23-year-old Juli Ceja (30-2, 27 Kos) of Atizapan De Zaragoza, Mexiko, in a highly anticipated rematch of their August fight won by Ceja.
Fighting just 10 miles west of his hometown of La Habra and before 7,780 enthusiastic fans, the 27-year-old Santa Cruz (32-0-1, 18 Kos) continued to establish himself as the King of Southern California as he punished the game 29-year-old Martinez (35-7, 26 Kos) of Alicante, Valencia, Spanien, med 570 total punches in just five rounds. There were 1,038 total punches thrown during the fight.
“The fans love it when two fighters go toe-to-toe,” Santa Cruz told SHOWTIME’s Jim Gray after the fight. “I wanted to give the fans a great fight. I knew I could hurt him with a right hand. He’s a fighter and when he’s knocked down, he’s going to come back. In the fifth round I knew I had to finish him off and I did.”
Santa Cruz continued, “We were going toe-to-toe from the beginning. He’s was throwing good punches I was throwing out good punches and the crowd was loving it. Then my dad told me to slow down and be smarter so we started boxing.”
Santa Cruz wasted no time getting the upper hand as the opening bell rung. He knocked Martinez out twice in the first round; the first just 23 seconds into the fight and the second on a devastating right hand at two minutes into the round prompting SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING play-by-play announcer Mauro Ranallo to tell expert analyst Al Bernstein: “We may be able to get to Disneyland before the end of the night.”
Martinez fell into a groove in the third and fourth rounds, but got into trouble two minutes into the fifth round as Santa Cruz had him up against the ropes connecting on numerous body shots, uppercuts and combinations before referee Raul Caiz Sr. signaled the end of the fight for Santa Cruz’s second straight world title defense in Southern California.
Martinez said that Santa Cruz, “started to move a lot and he broke my strategy and he fought a great fight. The second round I was getting looser and I was starting to feel much better.
“He was like a bull coming forward really strong,” Santa Cruz added. “He has definitely been one of the strongest fighters I’ve been in the ring with yet.
“Towards the end I said, ‘this is it, this is my opportunity to take him down. If I don’t finish him right here, it’s going to make it a really tough fight.’ So I said I was going at it with my all and thankfully it turned out the way that it did.”
Santa Cruz, making his second defense after capturing the world title from Abner Mares back in August, said someday he wants to break the records for most punches thrown in a fight. “I wanted to throw as many punches as I can so the fans could get a good show.”
Santa Cruz is now eyeing a future potential matchup with IBF 122-pound world champion Carl Frampton vid 126 pounds or Gary Russell. “I’m up for anyone,” sa han. “I want the rematch with (Abner) Mödrar. Since Frampton won, if he’s ready to go up in weight, Jag är redo för honom. I challenge him to a fight whenever he’s ready.”
In a rematch of the WBC Super Bantamweight World Title he lost last August, the new 122-pound champion Ruiz improved his record to 5-0 in rematches (med fem knockouts) as he delivered a stunning first-round knockout against Ceja, who injured his right ankle on a powerful clean right just seconds into the fight sending him to the canvas.
Ceja got up slowly but was battered with a fury of punches and knocked out again with just 51 seconds into the fight ending the affair.
“I was very prepared to knock him out, but I was prepared to go 12 rundor i kväll also if I had to,” sa Ruiz, who was teary and emotional following the victory. “I was happy to knock him out in the first round. I’m looking for the best fighters and the best money out there.”
Said SHOWTIME analyst Paulie Malignaggi: “I’ve never seen a first-round KO that soon in a fight of this much importance.” Added SHOWTIME’s Bernstein: “The right hand was the weapon of choice for Ruiz, and he got the job done. What a moment of redemption for Ruiz!”
Ögonbryn, who beat Ruiz on a fifth-round knockout last August to win the world title, was hurt from the first series of Ruiz punches and never recovered in the intense first round.
Ceja was taken to nearby UC Irvine Hospital and diagnosed with a fractured right ankle.
“I saw that he got hurt with the first punch and I saw his leg wobbling and so I said, ‘Let’s finish’,” Ruiz sa. “And I did in that round.”

The long-awaited matchup of unbeaten champions got off to a slow and tactical start, but Belfast native Frampton (22-0, 14 Kos) established himself as the aggressor and worked his jab to pocket the early rounds. Quigg didn’t come alive until after the seventh, when trainer Joe Gallagher warned his charge that he was likely down big on the judges’ styrkort.
QUIGG (31-1-2) pounded the body and was the aggressor in rounds eight through 11, but it was too little, too late for the Lancashire, England native. Frampton won the 12th and walked away the unified champion by scores of 115-113 for Quigg, men 116-112 twice for Frampton.
