“The Homecoming” to be headlined by phenom Marco “El Tiburón” Romero on Sept. 6 in Olathe, Kansas

Kansas City, Kan. (Juli 29, 2025) - Nineteen-year-old boxing phenom Marco “El Tiburón” Romero (9-0, 8 Kos) will make his hometown debut as a professional on September 6, headlining “The Homecoming” Pro-Am card, presented by Turner Boxing Academy, på Embassy Suites Hotel & Konferenscenter i Olathe, Kansas.“The Homecoming” is a fundraiser for the Turner Boxing Academy, owned and operated by boxing legend John Brown, in Kansas City, Kansas. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Säkra barn Johnson County. “This will be a special event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Turner Boxing Academy,” explained Turner, who is Romero’s manager/head trainer. Romero was a 23-time national amateur champion, highlighted by gold medal performances in the 2024 USA National Championships and National Golden Gloves Tournament, for which he was selected as the “Golden Boy” Award winner as the Most Outstanding Boxer.

He is matched against Javier Dario Aragon (7-1-1, 3 Kos), fighting out of Denver by way of Mexico, i 8-omgångens huvudevenemang.

“Going down to middleweight has always been the plan,” Romero noted. “My dream is to be a multi-world champion in different weight classes. I’m excited to see how I feel going to middleweight and see how I feel after this fight. Our plan is to go even lower in weight to super welterweight.

“I’m ready and excited to fight 8-rounds. Our opposition will be tougher – we know that – so we are preparing for a hard fought 8-rounder or finish it earlier Either way we are coming Shark Style!"

Proud of his Mexican American heritage, Marco’s boxing idols are Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Julio César Chávez och, Naturligtvis, his namesake, Marco Antonio Barrera. Yoseline Perez (54kg), Alyssa Mendoza (57kg) Nab Gold Medals

USTI NAD LABEM, Tjeckien (Juni 15, 2025) -Team USA’s Elite High Performance roster picked up nine medals to close out the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem this past Saturday. Yoseline Perez (kvinnokamens- 54 kg) and Alyssa Mendoza (kvinnokamens- 57 kg) led the way for the USA with gold medals in their respective weight classes, marking the first international gold medals of 2025.

Perez got things started this morning for the Red, White and Blue, earning a 4-1 victory over England’s Charley Davidson. The Houston, Texas native has been notable this year with top two finishes in each of her international competitions in 2025. At the World Boxing Challenge 2025, Perez secured two unanimous decision victories in three appearances to close an incredible week in the Czech Republic. This gold medal marks the first of Perez’s Elite international career for USA Boxing.

Mendoza secured her first medal of the calendar year while in Usti Nad Labem, and she did so in a dominant fashion. She earned two unanimous decisions and one 4-1 split decision victory in her three bouts on the week. One of her unanimous decisions came in Saturday’s championship bout over Mongolia’s Michidmaa Erdenedalai, a Paris 2024 Olympian.

Three other Team USA boxers also competed on Saturday, Juni 14, each of whom claimed silver medals at the 2025 World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem. Marie Angelis Rosendo (kvinnokamens- 70 kg) and Malachi Georges (herr 90 kg) earned the first international medals of their careers. Kelvin Watts (herr 90+ kg) secured his first silver medal of 2025, marking his second career international medal.

The Stars and Stripes’ nine medals conclude the 2025 World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem, and the team will now travel to Astana, Kazakstan, for the second World Boxing Cup of 2025. Team USA will be represented by 12 boxare, six male and six female, at the World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025. The event will take place from June 30 to July 7.

USA Boxing is led by head coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and assisted by National Resident Coach Timothy Nolan (Rochester, N.Y.), Nicole Burleson (Bethany, Okla.), and Eric Zimmerman (Alexandria, Va.).

Four Boxers Advance to Gold Medal Matches on Day Three of World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem

Four Team USA Boxers Close Friday With Bronze Medals

USTI NAD LABEM, Tjeckien (Juni 13, 2025) -Team USA tied a bow on day three of the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025 with four boxers earning bronze medals and four more athletes advancing to the gold medal rounds. Yoseline Perez (kvinnokamens- 54 kg), Alyssa Mendoza (kvinnokamens- 57 kg), Malachi Georges (herr 90 kg) and Kelvin Watts (herr 90+ kg) stamped won on Friday. Looking ahead to Saturday’s finals action, Team USA will see five boxers contesting for gold medals at the World Boxing Challenge.

Rene Camacho (herr 65 kg), Robby Gonzales (herr 80 kg), Jajaira Gonzalez (kvinnokamens- 60 kg) and Morelle McCane (kvinnokamens- 65 kg) concluded their respective weeks with bronze medals on Friday. McCane’s latest bronze marks her second internationally this year, following her outing at the World Boxing Cup: Brasilien 2025. Camacho finished his impressive week with his first Elite international medal after two wins in three appearances. Gonzalez secured her medal in her first international competition of 2025, while Gonzales finished the week with a 1-1 record for his first podium placement of the year.

Mendoza nabbed a 4-1 statement victory over Brazil’s Jucielen Romeo, avenging her loss to the Brazilian at the Paris 2024 OLYMPISKA SPELEN. In addition to her latest victory, the Caldwell, Idaho, native also defeated Hungary’s Vladislava Kukhta on Thursday. Following Saturday’s performance, Mendoza has guaranteed herself at least a silver medal. She will now take on Mongolia’s Michidmaa Erdenedalai on Saturday in bout four.

"Jag känner mig bra,” Mendoza stated. “It was definitely a really tough bout, someone that I’ve shared the ring with before [som är] always a tough competitor but we were able to pull off the victory today. I’m feeling good and we’re going into the silver and gold match tomorrow.”

In his two bouts, Georges has consistently dominated from the opening bell and enforced his powerful game on his foes. He will take on Brazil’s Isaias Filho in bout 18.

“I feel good,” said Georges. “I’m making it deep in this tournament. I’m here for the gold. I morgon, I’ve got a guy, omspel, he thinks he’s better than me, but he just caught me at a time when I wasn’t where I need to be mentally. But I’m going to show him tomorrow. We’re on to the next one, getting that gold.”

Watts opened his tournament on Friday against Mexico’s Alejandro Cruz and imposed his size and power from the beginning of the bout. The super heavyweight has been hard at work this year and is guaranteed at least a silver medal at the World Boxing Challenge. Watts is focused on closing his week strong against Italy’s Diego Lenzi, a Paris 2024 Olympian, in bout 19.

In addition to the four Team USA winners from Friday, Marie-Angelis Rosendo will make her tournament debut on Saturday in the women’s 70-kg weight class against Brazil’s Barbara dos Santos in bout seven. Rosendo is making her Elite international debut for the USA and is intent on showing out on the world’s stage.

Team USA Sends Seven Boxers to the Medal Rounds Thursday at World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025

USTI NAD LABEM, Tjeckien (Juni 12, 2025) -Team USA dominated day two of the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025, securing seven wins and seven medals on Thursday. Two Team USA competitors secured their first international medals, while four key veterans secured their first international wins of 2025 during Thursday’s action.

Rene Camacho (herr 65 kg) and Malachi Georges were standouts during Thursday’s competition. Both boxers earned unanimous decisions in the quarterfinals, securing their spots in the medal round and their first international medals along the way. Camacho secured his second victory in the event after taking down Brazil’s Carlos Patrique Souza. The Houston, Texas, native will now look to secure a berth in the gold medal round but will need to defeat Japan’s Shion Nishiyama to do so. Georges’ impressive win over Hungary’s Levente Kiss marked his first international victory, setting up a bout against Moldova’s Andrei Zaplitnii on Friday.

As for the Stars and Stripes’ veterans, Yoseline Perez (kvinnokamens- 54 kg) earned Team USA’s first win of the day, en 5-0 unanimous decision over Mexico’s Ariadna Jeanette Gil. Rene Camacho, Jajaira Gonzalez Capture Wins on Day One of World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025

Camacho, Gonzalez each earn 3-2 victories on tournament’s opening day
USTI NAD LABEM, Tjeckien (Juni 11, 2025) - Jajaira Gonzalez (Women’s 60 kg) and Rene Camacho (Men’s 65 kg) each captured 3-2 wins in their tournament debuts Wednesday at the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025.

The pair were the lone Team USA athletes in competition on day one of the tournament, and following their victories, they now advance to the quarterfinal rounds of their respective brackets.

Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.) closed out her 2025 international debut in style with a 3-2 victory over Croatia’s Sara Beram. Following the victory, Gonzalez will take on Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli in the quarterfinals of the women’s 60kg division. A second win at the tournament for the Glendora, Calif., native will guarantee her a medal at the event; emellertid, she remains persistent in capturing the gold medal in her 2025 international debut tournament.

“First time fighting international since the Games,” said Gonzalez after her victory. “I felt a little rusty, but of course, it’s the first day. Back at it again tomorrow, and it’s going to be better tomorrow.”

Camacho (Houston, Texas) entered the ring with confidence for his Team USA international debut. After listening to the opening bell and stepping out to throw the first punch of the bout, Camacho closed the door on any questions about whether or not he was ready for the international stage. Camacho shined under the lights and ultimately secured a 3-2 win over Hungary’s Milan Petriman.

“Feeling good, feeling good. I got the dub,” said Camacho of his win over Hungary on the opening day of the tournament. “We’re taking it all the way to the gold. We’re not going for anything less. Win, win, win and win again!"

Thursday’s competition will feature nine boxers from the United States, beginning with Orlando Zamora (Turlock, Calif. | 55kg) in Ring B, bout five, against Brazil’s Michael Douglas Trindade, a Paris 2024 Olympian.

Thomas Covington (Detroit, mig. | 60kg) will make his international debut in Ring B, bout eight, against Brazil’s Luiz Gabriel Oliveira, another Paris 2024 Olympian, who fell to the USA’s Jahmal Harvey last summer in Paris.

Camacho will return to action for his quarterfinal appearance in the 65kg division against Brazil’s Carlos Patrique Souza in Ring B, ände 13.

Malachi Georges (Teaneck, N.J. | 90kg) will close out Ring B for the USA in bout 27 against Hungary’s Levente Kiss.

Team USA Learns Its Path To Gold For U19 World Championships

PUEBLO, Lap. (Oktober 26, 2024) — Team USA will have twelve boxers competing at the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships. These twelve boxers learned their paths to gold, including their first-round opponents during Friday tournament draw.

Den 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships boxing tournament has 20 viktklasser, 10 men’s and 10 kvinnokamens-. Competition in Pueblo, Lap. will begin on Saturday, Oktober 26 before concluding on Saturday, November 2, at the Pueblo Convention Center.

Getting it all started for Team USA is Joselyn Olayo-Munoz (La Cruces, N.M.) och Shamiracle Hardaway (Lagrange, Ga.). Olayo-Munoz will box Chanchal Chaudary out of India in the 48 kg weight class tomorrow afternoon around 5:30 OCH. Hardaway will match up with Penelope Grochau from Germany in the 60 kg weight class.

Hardaway was on the Youth High-Performance Team last year and earned bronze at the 2023 International Invitational in Germany. If both boxers win their opening bouts, they will advance to the medal round.

Söndag, Oktober 27, Team USA will see their first male boxer in Emmanuel Chance (East Orange, N.J.) Chance is boxing in the 55 kg weight class and received a bye and will get the winner of Juan Jin from South Korea and Kelvy da Trindade from Brazil. Chance won silver at the 2023 Youth International Invitational in Germany.

Also competing Sunday is Laila Zakirova (Staten Island, N.Y.). Zakirova is boxing in the 51 kg weight class and is boxing Xian Baguhin out of the Philippines.

Team USA will see six boxers make their 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships debuts.

Lorenzo Patricio (Waiana, Hawaii) will represent Team USA in the 50 kg weight class and received a first-round bye and will box the winner of Seiya Nakayam out of Japan and Beau Piggott out of Australia.

Violet Lopez (Milwaukee, Wis.) also, with a first-round bye and will box Caitlyn Wise out of England in the 54 kg weight class.

I 70 kg weight class Malachi Ross (Grandview, Mo.) earned a bye and is going up against the winner of Festim Nimani from Germany and Sumit Sumit from India.

For Team USA in the 75 kg weight class, Joseph Awinongya (Jouliet, Ill.) will go up against Connor Anerson from Australia.

Elijah Lugo (Marietta, Ga.) will represent the USA in the 80 kg weight class and will go head-to-head with Cristian Sarsilli out of Italy.

In the heavyweight class of 90 kg, Rishon Sims (Harrisburg, Pa.) will go up against Eris Andi Lushtaku out of Germany. Sims was on the Youth High-Performance Team last year and won gold at the 2023 International Invitational in Germany.

Mesiah Nimo (Dallas, Texas) is the lone boxer going on Tuesday, Oktober 29, and he will box in the 65-kg weight class and was given a bye and will box the victor of Simon Stojka from Czech Republic and Assylkhan Kosherbay from Kazakhstan.

Nevaeh Williams received a bye and will go head-to-head with the winner of Aaliyah Hoppema from the Netherlands or Renee Doole out of New Zealand. Due to the bye Williams is already in the medal round and will receive at least a bronze medal.

Ticket pricing for the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships begins at $10 for a single-day pass or $50 for an all-week pass. Fans can also purchase tickets exclusively for Saturday’s finals at the price of $25.

USA Boxing will be led by National Development coach Chad Wigle (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Assisting Wigle will be three assistant coaches in Danilo Garcia (Oakland, Calif.), Edward Fonteneaux (Fayetteville, N.C.), and Blanca Gutierrez (Pacifica, Calif.).

Providence-polisen Kyana Williams tog en bronsmedalj vid prestigefyllda National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions

FÖRSYN (Maj 28, 2024) –Providence-polisen Kyana "Special Kay" Williams, en 2024 New England Golden Gloves Champion, tog en bronsmedalj i weltervikt (146-pund) division vid den senaste National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions som arrangerades av City of Detroit.

National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions har en Who's Who av amatörboxning i USA. Praktiskt taget alla stora U.S. boxare sedan dess 1928 har tävlat i denna prestigefyllda tävling.

Williams slog ut Zamyla Thurman-Houston i den inledande omgången genom ett enhälligt beslut, 5-0, och hon blev kantad i semifinalomgången, 3-2, av Brianna Gulia, den slutliga tvåan.

"Jag bevisade att jag är en av de bästa i landet,” sa en extatisk Williams om sin prestation. "Jag är verkligen exalterad över det."

Williams, bosatt i Providence, coachas av David Keefe och Joshua Lemar på Bishop's Boxing i Bridgewater och Veloz Boxing i Providence.

"Hon kom från ingenstans,” förklarade tränaren Keefe. "Tre år sedan, Jag tränade fighters och Kyana var på gymmet. Jag sa det till henne när hon var redo att kontakta mig, Jag skulle träna henne. Vi började tillsammans för fyra månader sedan och titta på vad hon har gjort. Hon kan bli proffs nu, men jag skulle vilja fortsätta jobba med några saker till innan hon gör det."

Williams hade flera hinder att övervinna för att komma dit hon är i livet såväl som i boxningen. När Keefe såg henne första gången, Kyana var inte redo att satsa på boxning, till stor del på grund av hennes nya karriär som polis. Idag, hon är inne på sitt åttonde år som medlem av Providence Police Department, patrullerar norra änden av staden. Hon gjorde nyligen detektivlistan, och hon förväntar sig att bli befordrad mycket snart.

Eftersom hennes arbetsschema är mellan 6:45 a.m. AND och 2:45 p.m. OCH, hon kan jonglera med sitt yrke och boxning. Hennes vanliga dag börjar kl 5 a.m. för styrke- och konditionsträning, följt av en morgonrunda, och hon gör sina boxningspass på natten.

"Jag är en tidig stigare,” erkände hon, "så jag har inga problem (hantera sin tid). Jag har ett jobb att göra, regler är regler och lagar är lagar, och jag försöker göra människors dagar enklare när jag ringer. I ringen, fast, Jag ger mina motståndare svårt."

Williams började med kampsporter som kickboxare när hon var 13, tävlade för första gången när hon var 15, och hon började först boxas in 2013. Hon tog ledigt sju år från boxningen, även om hon alltid dök upp på gymmet som hon gjorde när hon träffade Keefe.

"Jag skötte polisen, men du kan inte spela boxning,” erkände hon. "Jag var inte all in (boxning). Det var som att cykla. Jag har lärt mig några saker som har hjälpt mig i boxningen. Jag måste vara lugn med polisarbete som jag gör i ringen. Det självförtroende jag har som polis hjälper mig i ringen, alltför.

Det fanns ett par andra frågor. I 2015, hon och hennes far blev båda skjutna under en heminvasion. Williams sköts under höften, hennes far i tån. Läkare valde att inte ta ut kulan på grund av potentiell nervskada och/eller infektion, att tro att träning på ett säkert sätt skulle flytta kulan bort från nervskador. "Om jag sprang sex mil,” noterade hon, "mitt ben skulle domna. Jag behövde bygga styrka i min vänstra och, så länge jag yogar och stretchar, Jag mår bra nu."

Under hennes paus från boxningen, Williams lade till vikt och när hon var redo att satsa på boxning, hon behövde gå ner i vikt och gick ner 65 pounds.

"När jag såg Dave,”, tillade den 27-årige Williams, " Jag visste att jag var tvungen att komma tillbaka i form innan jag kontaktade honom om att träna mig. Det var det bästa beslutet jag någonsin tagit."

En annan relevant fråga är om hon kommer att förbli boxning som amatör eller som proffs.

"Jag är glad att vara en del av USA Boxing,” avslutade hon, "men jag ska lyssna om rätt affär erbjuds. Jag öppnade många ögon på The National Golden Gloves.”

Emilio Garcia en seger från kvalet för att tävla i Paris 2024 OLYMPISKA SPELEN

BANGKOK, Thailand (Maj 29, 2024) — Emilio Garcia (Laredo Texas) är bara en seger från kvalet till Paris 2024 OLYMPISKA SPELEN. Garcia besegrade Joseph Commey från Ghana på ett dominerande sätt. Garcia vann var och en av domarnas röster i alla tre omgångarna inklusive två 10-8 mål i den tredje omgången.

Garcia är nu bara en seger från att uppnå sin livslånga dröm och kvala till de olympiska spelen. Bara en boxare står i vägen och det blir Abdallah Abous vinnare- Arab från Danmark och Oier Ibarreche från Spanien. "Vi är vidare till kvalificeringsomgången och ser till att du ställer in,” konstaterade Garcia efter sin seger i onsdags. "Jag mår bra och ser fram emot fredag."

I morgon, Maj 30, är den första dagen av livestreamen och den kan ses här.

Team USA tungvikt, Jamar Talley (Camden, N.J.) kommer att få igång saker och ting imorgon då han kommer att möta Leclerc Nogaus från Haiti. Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) kommer att göra sitt andra framträdande och kommer att gå mot Olga -Pavlina Papadatou från Grekland. Slutligen, Roscoe Hill (Vår, Texas) kommer att göra honom OS-kvaldebut mot Yuberjen Martinez från Spanien.

Team USA representeras av åtta boxare i Italien som hoppas kunna slå sin biljett till sommarens 2024 Olympiska spelen i Paris. Robby Gonzales säkrade Team USA:s andra vinst i Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand (Maj 25, 2024) — Robby Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) säkrade Team USA andra segern med en enhällig domslutsseger över Ahmed Badrani från Marocko på den andra boxningsdagen i Bangkok, Thailand.

Gonzales dominerade hela matchen när han vann de två första omgångarna 4-1 och vann sedan sista omgången 5-0 leder till en enhällig domslutsseger över boxaren från Marocko.

Den 2021 Världsmästarens guldmedaljör kommer nu att slåss på måndag mot vinnaren av Weerapon Jongjoho från Thailand och Vladimir Mironchikov från Serbien.

"Fick ut den första och jag fick fyra till kvar,” konstaterade en bestämd Robby Gonzales efter sin debut på den 2024 World Qualification Tournament.

Alyssa Mendoza får Team USA:s första vinst

I Bangkok vid sista OS-kvalet i boxning

BANGKOK, Thailand – maj 25, 2024 —  Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) tog Team USAs första seger med en enhällig domslutsseger över Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag från Mongoliet under dag ett av boxningen i Bangkok, Thailand.

Mendoza, som tog tre medaljer i 2023, letar efter ett liknande resultat i Bangkok. I sin första omgång tog hon domarnas poängkort 3-2 men Tumurkhuyag tog den andra omgången, och alla poängen var jämna in i den tredje och sista omgången.

Idaho-infödingen kom ut i den tredje omgången och tog alla fem domarnas poängkort och vann på ett enhälligt beslut. Alyssa behöver ytterligare tre segrar för att kvalificera sig till Paris 2024 OLYMPISKA SPELEN.

"Fick den första dagen och vann ut vägen. Det var en tuffare kamp än jag förväntade mig, men jag går vidare och kommer att göra de justeringarna och bli bättre för varje dag,” konstaterade Mendoza efter sin första vinst i Bangkok.

Mendoza väntar nu till maj 30 för hennes nästa kamp. Hon kommer att gå head-to-head mot Olga-Pavlina Papadatou från Grekland. Mendoza vill skriva historia i den här turneringen och bli den första boxaren från Idaho som kvalificerar sig till OS.
