LAS VEGAS, Nevada — LFA CEO Ed Soares announced today that the promotion will make its second trip to the capital city of Brazil in July with a Championship Headliner at LFA 212. The main event will feature an interim flyweight title fight between two of South America’s most decorated prospects. This interim title defense became necessary as the promotion awaits the status of its sitting champion Eduardo Chapolin, who is currently competing on the UFC’s thirty-third season of The Ultimate Fighter.
This will be the twenty-third LFA event to take place in Brazil and it will celebrate the promotion’s international expansion that began four summer’s ago. LFA 212 will take place in the Federal District, which makes it the third LFA event to take place in the Central-West Region of Brazil. LFA has also visited the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Pernambuco, and Mato Grosso.

LFA 212 will be our second event in the nation’s capital city of Brasília and we will celebrate our 4-year-anniversary in the country with a title fight. What makes this title fight even more exciting is the fact that it features two of South America’s most decorated prospects. Marcos Degli(Brésil) and Oscar Miguel (Pérou) will also rekindle a Brazil vs. Latin America fight tradition that started in the LFA last July.”
Degli (12-3) started his year in February by becoming the LFA’s fourteenth flyweight champion. He did this by defeating fellow top prospect Lincon Santos in the co-main event of LFA 201. The crowning moment came when Degli landed a beautiful Left Hook to knock out the fellow Brazilian National Muay Thai champion in the second round of their interim flyweight title fight. The interim title shot became available to Degli after the LFA’s sitting flyweight champion Eduardo Chapolin was cast to compete on the UFC’s thirty-third season of The Ultimate Fighter. Degli’s win over Santos ran his LFA record to 4-0 and earned him a gold belt to go along with his BJJ black belt. Cependant, instead of waiting on Chapolin, Degli jumped at the opportunity to defend his interim title much like LFA great Charles Johnson did four summer’s ago.
Degli was also eager to face the biggest challenge in his division, who happens to reside on the other side of his continent. That would be none other than Peruvian kingpin Oscar Miguel. Degli vs. Miguel also rekindles the Brazil vs. Latin America rivalry that began last July at LFA 187, when the LFA hosted a team challenge between the two most dominant factions of MMA talent in the southern hemisphere.
Miguel (14-1) is one of the most beloved fighters to hail from the “Land of Incas”. Peru has in fact experienced its Golden Era in MMA over the past few years with Claudio Puelles, Daniel Marcos, Jose Ochoa, Kevin Borjas, Luis Pajuelo, Rolando Bedoya, Jesus Pinedo, James Llontop, and Enrique Barzola all reaching the pinnacle of the sport by competing in the UFC. That success has also carried over to the LFA Octagon, where both Rodrigo Vera and Abraham Racho just won their LFA debuts impressively at LFA 209. Miguel will now become just the second Peruvian fighter to fight for an LFA title and to headline an LFA event after his countrywoman Sandra Lavado became the first to accomplish both these feats two summers ago at LFA 164. Cependant, Miguel will be looking to become the first to bring LFA gold back home to Peru.

I also use Sherdog.com to comb through records of each fighter to see how long they’ve been fighting and where they’ve fought. Chances are if Fighter A has 17 fights in the UFC and is facing Fighter B who is making his UFC debut on a week’s notice, Fighter A is typically the best one to put your money behind.
Sportsbooks also often allow for betting on what I call “feeder leagues” like LFA, which is one of the UFC’s deepest recruiting pools. The favored fighters usually win on those cards, so finding an underdog winner to parlay into a profitable bet can be very challenging.
“Dana White’s Contender Series” can also provide winning opportunities if you are capable of a little deep research. The prospects who appear on these cards might have long winning streaks, but it’s important to find out who their opponents really were. Sometimes you might see an undefeated fighter on there against a journeyman and think the smart bet is the guy with no losses. Look deeper and you could find the undefeated guy fought his whole career against tomato cans with no wins of their own.
Inside information is also crucial. Sometimes that type of intel goes public, like a couple weeks ago when UFC fighter and commentator Michael Church hyped up Juliana Miller on the pre-fight show for UFC on ESPN 67. Her opponent Ivana Petrovic was a decent favorite, and Miller came into the fight with a record that did not look all that impressive.
Chiesa reported that Miller was looking like a beast in training at the same gym he calls home. Sure enough, Miller won handily as the underdog against a game and formidable opponent. It pays to keep your ears open for these kinds of tips.
Many times in the post-fight interview a winning male fighter will also cite the fact that he is a new father. I call it the Baby Daddy factor. If you know before the fight that a particular fighter is making a new commitment to the sport after the birth of a child, that kind of inspiration can be key.
A death of someone close to a fighter can also have a huge effect on the outcome of a fight. Consider one of the greatest upsets of all time: Jacques “mec” Douglas beating “Fer” Mike Tyson. Buster’s mother tragically died just 23 days before the fight. Douglas promised her before she died that he would beat Tyson. Petit (5-0) is the 21-year-old LFA women’s flyweight champion. The Colombian wunderkind signed with LFA when she was 19-years-old and took the MMA world by storm in 2017. She burst on to the global scene three weeks after her 20th birthday at LFA 9. This happened when she knocked out 82nd Airborne Army veteran Jamie Thorton with a jaw-dropping head kick that went viral on mainstream media and MMA media outlets alike. The Kings MMA product doubled-down in her sophomore appearance for LFA by knocking out Minnesota National Guard member Linsey Williams with a nearly identical first round head kick at LFA 23. Le “Colombian Queen” finally received her crown this past April. The title winning performance came courtesy of a unanimous decision over Shannon Sinn at LFA 37, which saw Mazo provide a brilliant display boxing and clinch work, as well as her signature Muay Thai skills. Her head coach is her husband Werique Silva, who is a black belt in the Chinese martial art of Sanda. Yariwaki has a purple belt in Sanda and has used her well-rounded skill set to gain a reputation as a relentless finisher in her native Brazil. The Strong Team co-founder made her professional debut in 2016 et a gagné 7 wins in her career, while finishing 86% of those opponents. Yariwaki is known by her nickname “Japa”, because she was born in Brazil to Japanese descendants just like fellow Belém, Brazil native Lyoto Machida. Yariwaki will look to follow her fellow Belemense’s success in the sport by capturing LFA gold. History will also be made at LFA 54 as Mazo vs. Yariwaki will be the first women’s bout to headline and LFA event.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – LFA CEO Ed Soares announced today that there has been a last-minute shuffle at the top of Friday night’s LFA 51 event in Fresno. Jaimee Nievera has pulled out of her title fight in the main event of RFA 51 due to injury. This has elevated the LFA 51 co-main event into headlining status.
The new main event of LFA 51 will feature a bantamweight showdown between four-time UFC veteran Cody Gibson and top Brazilian prospect Gustavo Erak. LFA 51 – Gibson vs. Erak takes place Friday, September 28th at the Selland Arena in Fresno, Californie. Erak (19-3-1) is one of the top prospects in Brazil. The 26-year-old São Paulo native will be fighting outside of his native of Brazil for the first time in a 24-fight professional career. The Muay Thai stylist and Aspera FC bantamweight champion is currently on an 8-fight win streak and has not lost in 3 ans.
