WORCESTER, Missa. The 27-year-old Rivera (6-0, 5 KOs) fought once again in front of his large, traveling fanbase from Hartford, Connecticut, capturing the vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) light heavyweight title in dramatic fashion. The charismatic Hartford boxer ended his third consecutive match with what has become his trademark right-uppercut.

Rivera used his strength, energy and determined will to defeat South Boston’s Cobbs (10-3, 4 KOs), whose previous fight had been more than a year ago, when he was stopped in the second round by now world champion David Benavidez.

In only his sixth pro fight, the key question going into the bout was whether Rivera was ready to effectively step up in class to face a more experienced Cobbs. Right from the opening bell, the answer was a resounding, si, as Rivera pounded Cobbs with powerful shots to the body and head.

Cobbs was dropped three times in the third round, one was ruled a push, and the end came when referee Jackie Morrell halted the action at the 2:51 as a reeling Cobbs was blasted backwards from the Rivera’s previously mentioned uppercut.

“I stepped things up in the third,” Rivera ha explicat. “He stopped throwing as many punches in the third and was ducking in. I said I wasn’t going to look for the knockout but, if it came, I’d take it. I got him with my uppercut. I respect Cobbs and thank him for giving me this opportunity.”

Puerto Rican junior lightweight Luis “Lobito” Rivera (4-3, 1 KOs) overcame a nasty cut over his eye to win a hard-fought four-round majority decision over Carlos Marrero, III (0-2), de Bridgeport, Connecticut, in a non-stop action fight to the finish.

Unbeaten Springfield, MA light heavyweight Rayo “bazuca” Graceski (5-0-1, 3 KOs) and International Muay Thai fighter, Harford’s pro boxing debuting Pawel Banasiak (0-1-0), fought to a four-round draw in an entertaining brawl.

WORCESTER, Missa. (Gener 24, 2018) – One of New England’s leading pro prospects, welter júnior Omar Bordoy, Jr., has prepared to make a statement February 10º a “de Nova Anglaterra Futur 5”, presented Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), al Palladium a Worcester.
Fighting out of Danbury, Connecticut, Bordoy (3-0, 1 KO) faces Puerto Rican-born opponent, Alejandro “el Bravo” cop de gràcia (2-4-1), in a four-round bout. “My opponent is tough, and he always comes to fight,” Bordoy said. “He keeps coming forward and that’s going to make for an exciting fight.”
The 22-year-old Bordoy is the typical example of a volatile teenager who found his way in boxing. He was a high school football player who started boxing at the age of 17. Bordoy had an abbreviated amateur career, highlighted by his winning performance at the New England Golden Gloves as a novice boxer.
“I was a bad hot head as a kid,” Bordoy admitted. “Un dia, my cousin Edgardo, invited me to his gym after football practice and he beat me up. I was knocked down a few notches. I got into boxing and enjoyed watching Miguel Cotto i Mike Tyson. I even have some of Cotto’s tattoos. Ara, I’m more of a boxer, like a Pernell Whitaker o Floyd Mayweather, Jr. I’m a come- forward boxer who can still brawl. I’m working on my defense and feel that making adjustments in the ring is what I do best.”

WORCESTER, Missa. (Gener 8, 2018) – Un dels més populars prospectes de la boxa de Nova Anglaterra, invicta Hartford (Connecticut) pes semipesado Richard “Popeye el mariner” Rivera (5-0, 4 KOs), encapçalarà el seu tercer espectacle Dissabte nit, Febrer 10, al Palladium a Worcester, Massachusetts.
En la cinquena entrega de la “Futur de Nova Anglaterra” sèrie, presentat per Rivera Promocions Entreteniment (RPE), els 27 anys d'edat, Rivera es reuneix Kevin “Kray 2 UNKL” Cobbs (10-2, 4 KOs), lluitant fora de Burlington (Vermont), pel vacant Federació Universal Boxing (UBF) Títol de Nova Anglaterra en l'esdeveniment principal de vuit assalts.
Rivera, qui era un 2016 campió del Torneig de Rocky Marcià, ve d'una sensacional segona ronda eliminatòria de 146 veterans de la baralla Roberto Valenzuela el desembre passat 9 a Hampton, New Hampshire.
“Estic molt emocionat de tenir Richie boxa pel títol UBF Nova Anglaterra tan d'hora en la seva carrera professional,”” dit promotor José Antonio Rivera, el retirat 3-temps, 2-campió del món de la divisió. “Aquesta és la tercera vegada que hem tingut el privilegi de lluitar en una de les nostres targetes. Va lluitar en l'esdeveniment principal del nostre últim concert (octubre) en el DCU Center. Rivera es veu millor i més tallant cada vegada que el miro lluita. Veig grans coses per a ell venir. Ell té les eines i la disciplina un entrenador busca i un boxejador necessita per convertir-se en campió del món. El cel és el límit per a Richard i, per ara, estem agraïts a jugar una petita part per ajudar a desenvolupar la seva carrera professional.”
Rivera ha comercialitzat amb èxit el seu personatge de Popeye durant la seva jove carrera en la boxa professional, portant una gorra de mariner al ring amb un penjoll tradicional tub de Popeye-com a la boca. “Hi ha diverses raons per al meu pseudònim, 'Popeye', però quan jo era molt jove,” Rivera ha explicat, “Tenia anormalment grans avantbraços. Només em va quedar gravada a través dels anys, quan la gent es referia a mi al gimnàs, pel que m'he trobat amb ell. Tot i que no va guanyar molts premis o tornejos importants com un boxejador amateur, Rivera va guanyar una valuosa experiència boxa molts dels millors aficionats a Nova Anglaterra i en esdeveniments nacionals, així com espàrring amb els gustos dels ex campions del món Peter “Kid Xocolata” Quillin, Txad Dawson i Joe Smith, Jr. També va aprendre durant la seva permanència en el ring amb l'ex reptadors al títol Israel “més aviat” Cardona i John Scully.

Fighting out of Burlington, Vermont, Cobbs hasn’t fought since January 19, 2016, when he lost to rising star David Benavidez.

The battle-tested Biosse, fighting out of Providence by way of Cape Verde, is a former college football player who has notable victories against Joey Spina i Santiago Samaniego, as well as an eight-round draw with Peter Manfredo, Jr. in his last fight on May 13, 2016.
“I am excited to have our second year is starting with a bang featuring these great up-and-coming boxers willing to be battle tested so early in their respective careers,” promotor José Antonio Rivera dit. “It shows they are serious about their careers and that they also have the right attitude needed to become world champion. I am also excited about our great undercard that is going to provide an action-packed night of boxing for fans.”
