“The Homecoming” to be headlined by phenom Marco “El Tiburón” Romero on Sept. 6 in Olathe, Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mei. (Juli 29, 2025) - Nineteen-year-old boxing phenom Marco “El Tiburón” Romero (9-0, 8 KO) will make his hometown debut as a professional on September 6, headlining “The Homecoming” Pro-Am card, presented by Turner Boxing Academy, at Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center in Olathe, Kansas.“The Homecoming” is a fundraiser for the Turner Boxing Academy, owned and operated by boxing legend John Brown, in Kansas City, Kansas. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Safe Kids Johnson County. “This will be a special event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Turner Boxing Academy,” explained Turner, who is Romero’s manager/head trainer. It’s a tough homecoming fight for Marco.”

The primary sponsor of this event is McCarthy Auto Group. “I’m elated to support the Turner Boxing Academy’s 20th anniversary event,” McCarthy Auto Group founder and owner John McCarthy becommentarieerde. “This is clearly a reputable organization and non-profit. I’ve been impressed with Marco Romero and recognize how pivotal early support can be in shaping a career.”
Romero was a 23-time national amateur champion, highlighted by gold medal performances in the 2024 USA National Championships and National Golden Gloves Tournament, for which he was selected as the “Golden Boy” Award winner as the Most Outstanding Boxer.

He is matched against Javier Dario Aragon (7-1-1, 3 KO), fighting out of Denver by way of Mexico, in the 8-round main event.

“Fighting at home means so much to me,” Romero said about fighting in Olathe. “It’s giving me that extra motivation and drive to work hard every single day in the gym. I’m ready to give my people from KC and Olathe a show.”
Romero, currently a promotional free agent, has needed only 17 rounds in his 9 professionele periodes, registering 8 stoppages, including his last six fights in a row. He is set to compete as a middleweight for the first time after previously fighting at super middleweight, his sixth fight in 2025.

“Going down to middleweight has always been the plan,” Romero noted. “My dream is to be a multi-world champion in different weight classes. I’m excited to see how I feel going to middleweight and see how I feel after this fight. Our plan is to go even lower in weight to super welterweight.

“I’m ready and excited to fight 8-rounds. Our opposition will be tougher – we know that – so we are preparing for a hard fought 8-rounder or finish it earlier Either way we are coming Shark Style!"

Proud of his Mexican American heritage, Marco’s boxing idols are Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Julio Cesar Chavez en, natuurlijk, his namesake, Marco Antonio Barrera. Romero’s ultimate goal is to bring world championship boxing back to Kansas, in order to give back to his community and inspire other young and upcoming boxers from Kansas City, not necessarily just in boxing, but any sport. His ultimate goal is to fill up Arrowhead Stadium one day, either fighting for a world title, or defending his world title belt.

About Shane Mosley

“Suiker” Shane Mosley, is a globally respected boxing icon and Hall of Famer. He competed from 1993 naar 2016. LOS ANGELES (Juli 2, 2025) -- It’s “Scrappy Time” again!

For the first time in 2025, charismatic super flyweight contenderJohn “Scrappy” Ramirez (15-1, 9 KO) returned to the ring on last Saturday’s DAZN Pay-Per-View event, presented by MVP Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, and headlined by YouTuber turned boxerJake "Het probleemkind" Paul(12-1, 7 KO) tegenJulio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KO) at Honda Center in Anaheim, Californië.

In een 8-ronde Bout, “Scrappy” dominated Houston’sJosue Jesus Morales (33-19-5, 14 KO), who was a very late replacement forSaleto Henderson (10-2, 7 KO), enroute to an 8-round unanimous decision (80-72, 80-72, 89-73).

Henderson pulled out of the fight last Wednesday night, Morales accepted the fight Thursday evening after the event’s final press conference.

“I trusted the process,” Ramirez explained. “It was emotional when my original opponent pulled out of the fight so late and I didn’t know if I’d be fighting. I’m happy I got the fight, even if I had to open the show, because I’ve learned to embrace the opportunity. I trained to fight a 5’ 2”, righty and fought a southpaw. I was comfortable, achteloos, because I prepare at camp for anything that may happen. I wanted the fight and gave him (Morales) two passes on weight. He was coming in heavy; dus, we agreed to fight at a 120-pound catchweight. Before he stepped on the scale, he said he weighed 121.6. I didn’t want him to be fined for coming in overweight because he was doing me a favor by taking the fight. I respect him for taking the fight on late notice and we changed the contract to 121.6. Nothing changed for me other than the opponent and opening the preliminaries. Time is money, and I wanted everything I had done to count like camp (expenses), resources I used, mileage on my body. Everything happens for a reason. There are six months left in 2025, and my goal is to have two more fights.”

In Ramirez’ previous fight in April of 2024, “Scrappy” had suffered the lone loss of his pro career to Jimenez for the WBA Interim Super Flyweight crown.

“I’m hungry! I feel like I’ve been locked up in a cage. I’m happy to be back to the spot I had before.,” Ramirez continued. ”I’m ignoring distractions and continue to work on my craft and self-discipline. I know my opportunity (world title shot) will come. Even when I didn’t know who my opponent would be or even if I’d fight (deze zaterdag), I just let that go and kept training hard to keep improving.

“Everything is based on my confidence. Ik ben nog aan het leren op de werkplek. I like to compare it to when I played football, my level of confidence, because I knew what that was all about for me. “I know I have the skills to be world champion,” Ramirez concluded. “I like to fight and prove people wrong. I train to learn how to perform better. I’m in a great spot. I know I need to keep winning and that my opportunity will come. I’m only really thinking about this fight as I glimpse a little into my future.”

It’s “Scrappy Time” again and the dynamic super flyweight is closing in on his world title.

CANASTOTA, NY – MARCH 18, 2024 – The International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum, which is celebrating its 35th Anniversary in 2024, is pleased to announce that Hall of Famer “The Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya will attend the Banquet of Champions and other events planned for planned for the 2024 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 6-9.
“From Olympic gold to world titles in six divisions, Oscar De La Hoya captured the imagination of boxing fans around the world,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We are very much looking forward to welcoming ‘The Golden Boy’ back to Canastota for the Hall of Fame’s 35th Anniversary celebration.”

De La Hoya capped a 223-5 (153 KO) amateur career by capturing lightweight gold at the 1992 Olympische Spelen. He turned pro the same year and captured his first world title – the WBO super featherweight – in only his 12th pro bout and would go on to win 10 world titles in six weight divisions.

Among the champions he defeated include Jorge Paez, John John Molina, Rafael Ruelas, Genaro Hernandez, Ike Quartey, Fernando Vargas, Ricardo Mayorga and Hall of Famers Hector Camacho, Julio Cesar Chavez, Pernell Whitaker and Arturo Gatti.

One of the biggest pay per view attractions in boxing history. De La Hoya retired in 2008 with a pro record of 39-6 (30 KO). In 2002 he established promotional powerhouse Golden Boy Promotions. In 2014 “The Golden Boy” was elected into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

An impressive list of over 35 boxing greats from the United States and abroad, including the Class of 2024, returning Hall of Famers and special guests will participate in the Hall of Fame Weekend celebration.

The Class of 2024 to be honored includes boxers Ricky Hatton, Ivan Calderon, Diego Corrales (postuum), Michael Moorer, Jane Couch, Ana Maria Torres, Luis Angel Firpo (postuum), Theresa Kibby (postuum), trainer Kenny Adams, manager Jackie Kallen, publicist Fred Sternburg, journalist Wallace Matthews and broadcaster Nick Charles (postuum).
The Class of 2024 will be honored during the Hall of Fame Induction Weekend on June 6-9, 2024, in “Boxing’s Hometown.” Many events will take place in Canastota and nearby Turning Stone Resort Casino throughout the four-day celebration including ringside talks, fist casting, fight night, 5K race / fun run, boxing autograph card show, banquet, parade and induction ceremony.

    Another Mexican boxer is in the 50-0 Club, Niet Doen. 4 Carlos Zarate, who reached 52 straight victories off his pro debut, 51 door knock-out, in the 1970’s. Zarate was stopped in his 53rd fight by Puerto Rican starWilfredo Gomez in the fifth round of their 1978 WBC super bantamweight World championship match.

    The only member of the exclusive 50-0 Club to retire undefeated is Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. in fifth place with 50.

    The four inactive boxers in the club – Chavez, Pep, Zarate, and Mayweather – are inducted in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Ronde. (November 19, 2018) – Wijlen Emanuel Steward, arguably the greatest boxing trainer of all-time, is a member of the Class of 2018 krijgen ingewijd in de Verenigde Staten Boxing Alumni Association Hall of Fame.

Steward was a boxer, trainer extraordinaire, and HBO commentator until his untimely death in 2012 op de leeftijd van 68. His boxing career culminated with his induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996.

 

 

 

Op de leeftijd van 12, Manny moved with his mother from West Virginia to Detroit, where his life soon turned to boxing. Steward also served as National Director of Coaching for USA Boxing in the early 2000’s.

 

 

 

Throughout his incredible career, Steward reportedly trained 41 wereldkampioenen, misschien, the most noteworthy were Thomas Hearns, Lennox Lewis en Wladimir Klitschko. He also trained Julio Cesar Chavez, Miguel Cotto, Oscar de la Hoya, Naseem Hamed, Evander Holyfield, en Mike McCallum. Manny also trained a young Detroit rapper, Eminem, how to box at Kronk Gym.

 

 

 

The last world champion Manny trained was Adonis “Superman” Stevenson, who remains the reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) World light heavyweight champion since 2013.

NEW YORK (Maart 26, 2018) – Boksen lifers Bob Goodman en zijn vader, wijlen Murray Goodman, behoren tot 23 leden van de Klasse van 2018 wordt opgenomen in de New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) op Zondag middag (12:30-5:30 p.m. EN), April 29.
Het zevende jaarlijkse NYSBHOF-inductiediner wordt opnieuw gehouden in Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, New York.
Een legendarische bokspublicist, Murray Goodman (Bronx) bracht zijn zoon in de zoete wetenschap toen Bob nog maar acht jaar oud was. De rest was historisch voor de Goodmans, die beide inductees zijn in verschillende Halls of Fame, waaronder de International Boxing Hall of Fame.
“Dit is een grote eer voor mij en mijn vader,” Zei Bob. “Ik wou dat hij vandaag nog leefde om daar te zijn. Ik ben een bokser. Ik was acht jaar en ging met mijn vader naar alle trainingskampen, die boksschrijver en sportredacteur was voor de INS (Hearst News Service) service. “Ik ben de gelukkigste man ter wereld. Ik ben opgegroeid met de dingen waar ik van hield. Hoeveel mensen kunnen dat zeggen? Ik ontmoette en raakte bevriend met Joe Louis, Marcel Cerdan, Sugar Ray Robinson, Rocky Graziano, Rocky Marciano en zo veel anderen. Ik zou weken in kampen blijven. Ik zou opstaan ​​om met de boksers te rennen en de kans krijgen om bij mijn helden te zijn. Ik leerde ook trainers en anderen in het boksen kennen en later fans. Ik heb iedereen leren kennen. Ik ben opgegroeid met boksen, mijn hele leven was boksen, 65 jaar in het vak.”
Bob is, misschien, vooral bekend als Vice President en Matchmaker voor Madison Square Garden (1985-1994), evenals een kwart eeuw als Vice President Boxing Operations, Matchmaker en directeur Public Relations voor Don King Productions. Hij promootte ook vele wereldkampioenen als president van zijn eigen bedrijf, Garden State Boksen.
“Ik herinner me dat ik weken achtereen naar trainingskampen ging,” herinnerde de 78-jarige Goodman zich liefdevol. “Ik zou foto's maken, schrijf elke dag verhalen en gebruik mijn telecopier om ze naar AP en UPI te sturen. Ik heb zoveel gedaan in mijn opvoeding, zelfs vrachtwagens met stoelen laden, de ring, luidsprekers en meer. Mijn vader was de publiciteitsdirecteur van de International Boxing Club in Madison Square Garden. Ik werkte daar toen ik een tiener was.
“Ik vind het een eer om met mijn vader en zoveel boksers te worden opgenomen in de New York State Boxing Hall of Fame. Ze zijn anders dan mensen in andere sporten. Een van de prijzen die ik heb gewonnen en waar ik het meest trots op ben, is de James J. Walker Memorial Award voor lange en verdienstelijke dienst aan het boksen (BWAA in 1960).
“Ik heb het geluk verschillende tijdperken in het boksen te hebben overstegen. Het was toen een andere wereld, wij hadden 20-30 schrijvers blijven wekenlang op trainingskampen. Ik leerde oude boksers en trainers kennen.”

“Ik begon met boksen omdat Joey Angelo trouwde met mijn neef,” Legde Sammartino uit. “Hij vocht begin jaren veertig terug. Joey vocht twee keer tegen Willie Pep en tegen Sandy Saddler.
