Combat Sports Weekend Preview: UFC Vegas 107 & Boxing Showcase

Da: Rich Bergeron

This weekend features compelling action across both mixed martial arts and boxing, with UFC Vegas 107 headlined by Erin Blanchfield vs. Maycee Barber taking center stage alongside significant boxing cards featuring established names and rising contenders.

UFC Vegas 107: Blanchfield vs. Barber – Maggio 31, 2025

Main Event: Women’s Flyweight Showdown

The UFC returns to the Apex facility in Las Vegas with a women’s flyweight bout that carries significant divisional implications. Erin Blanchfield faces Maycee Barber in the main event, representing a clash between two of the division’s most promising contenders.

Erin Blanchfield enters this contest as one of the most technically proficient grapplers in the women’s flyweight division. Known for her suffocating ground game and submission prowess, Blanchfield has built her reputation on methodical performances that showcase her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt credentials. Her wrestling base allows her to dictate where fights take place, often overwhelming opponents with her positional control and relentless pressure.

Blanchfield’s striking has evolved considerably throughout her UFC tenure. While she may not possess potent knockout power, her technical boxing and ability to set up takedowns through striking exchanges make her a well-rounded threat. Her top-level cardio gives her consistent advantages, allowing her to maintain pressure throughout three-round contests.

Maycee Barber represents the athletic, explosive side of the flyweight equation. “The Futureburst onto the scene with dynamic striking and aggressive forward pressure. Her athletic gifts are undeniable – explosive takedown defense, sharp boxing combinations, and the ability to generate power in short exchanges.

Barber’s evolution as a fighter has been notable. Early career setbacks taught her valuable lessons about pacing herself and the importance of fight IQ, leading to more measured approaches in recent outings. Her striking diversity, including effective kicks and knees, provides multiple weapons to threaten opponents. The question remains whether her takedown defense can withstand Blanchfield’s persistent wrestling attacks.

Tactical Breakdown: This matchup presents a classic grappler versus striker dynamic. Blanchfield will look to close the distance, secure takedowns, and control position while hunting for submissions. Barber’s success depends on maintaining a comfortable distance, stuffing takedown attempts, and unleashing combinations during brief exchanges.

The key factor that may sway the fight in her favor will be Barber’s ability to create scrambles and also wall-walking back up when taken down. If she can consistently return to her feet, her striking advantages become more pronounced. Conversely, if Blanchfield can establish prolonged ground control, her submission threats and ground-and-pound could prove decisive.

Co-Main Event: Lightweight Contenders Collide

Mateusz Gamrot faces Ludovit Klein in a lightweight bout that could have ranking implications for both fighters.

Mateusz Gamrot represents one of the most complete lightweights outside the division’s elite tier. The Polish veteran combines elite-level wrestling with increasingly dangerous striking. His grappling credentials speak for themselves – multiple submission victories and dominant positional control define his ground game.

Gamrot’s striking has developed into a legitimate threat. His boxing combinations, particularly his jab-cross sequences, set up takedown opportunities while keeping opponents honest on the feet. His conditioning allows him to maintain a grueling pace that often breaks opponents in later rounds.

Ludovit Klein brings European kickboxing pedigree and improving wrestling defense. His striking flows naturally, with excellent footwork and combination punching that can trouble any opponent. Klein’s recent performances have showcased improved takedown defense and scrambling ability.

The Slovakian’s path to victory involves keeping the fight standing and outworking Gamrot in striking exchanges. His volume and diversity of attacks could accumulate damage over three rounds if he can neutralize wrestling threats.

Fight Analysis: Gamrot enters as the betting favorite based on his grappling advantages and overall experience level. Klein’s striking poses legitimate threats, but his ability to defend takedowns consistently will determine the fight’s trajectory. Expect Gamrot to mix wrestling attempts with striking exchanges, while Klein looks to counter and maintain distance.

Light Heavyweight Action: Power Meets Technique

Dustin Jacoby meets Bruno Lopes in a light heavyweight contest featuring contrasting styles and experience levels.

Dustin Jacoby brings extensive kickboxing experience and proven UFC-level competition. His striking base provides clean technique and fight-ending power. Jacoby’s recent performances have demonstrated improved wrestling defense and ground awareness, addressing previous vulnerabilities.

His kickboxing background translates well to MMA, with excellent distance management and counter-striking ability. Jacoby’s leg kicks and boxing combinations can accumulate damage quickly against opponents who engage in striking exchanges.

Bruno Lopes represents the emerging Brazilian talent pipeline. His grappling base and submission threats provide alternative victory paths beyond striking exchanges. Lopes’ aggression and willingness to engage in exchanges make him dangerous throughout fights.

The Brazilian’s striking has shown improvement, though his tendency toward wild exchanges can create opportunities for technical strikers like Jacoby to capitalize.

Middleweight Prospects Square Off

Zachary Resse faces Dusko Todorovic in a middleweight bout between developing prospects seeking breakthrough performances.

Zachary Resse has shown flashes of potential with well-rounded skills and improved fight IQ. His wrestling base provides a foundation, while his striking continues developing. Resse’s ability to mix takedowns with striking exchanges keeps opponents guessing.

Dusko Todorovic brings European striking experience and knockout power. The Serbian’s boxing combinations and counter-striking ability make him dangerous in exchanges. His takedown defense has been tested but shows room for improvement against persistent wrestlers.

Preliminary Card Highlights

Flyweight Action: Brazilian Showdown

Jafel Filho squares off against Allan Nascimento in flyweight action, representing a clash between Brazilian fighters with different strengths.

Filho’s grappling-heavy approach contrasts with Nascimento’s more well-rounded skill set. Both fighters represent the depth of Brazil’s flyweight talent pool and will look to make statements with impressive performances.

Women’s Bantamweight: Experience vs. Youth

Ketlen Vieira meets Macy Chiasson in women’s bantamweight competition, pairing a former title challenger against an athletic rising contender.

Vieira’s experience at the highest levels of women’s bantamweight competition provides valuable insight into championship-level preparation. Her technical striking and grappling make her a complete threat at 135 libbre.

Chiasson’s athletic gifts and improving technique suggest significant upside. Her ability to adapt mid-fight and make necessary adjustments could prove crucial against a veteran like Vieira.

Boxing Weekend Showcase

Saturday Night Boxing: Plant Returns

Caleb Plant faces Jose Armando Resendiz on Saturday, Maggio 31, 2025, marking the former super middleweight champion’s return to action. This bout will be broadcast on Amazon Prime from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Caleb Impianto represents one of boxing’s most technically sound fighters. The former IBF super middleweight champion’s boxing IQ and defensive awareness make him a difficult puzzle for any opponent. Plant’s jab establishes distance and timing, while his footwork creates angles for counter-opportunities.

Plant’s recent setback against Canelo Alvarez provided a valuable learning experience in making championship-level adjustments. His ability to implement lessons learned from that bout and maintain his technical advantages will be crucial moving forward.

Jose Armando Resendiz enters as a live underdog with legitimate upset potential. His pressure-heavy fighting style and willingness to engage in exchanges could create problems for any fighters who prefers operating at a distance.

Resendiz’s success depends on closing distance, roughing up Plant on the inside, and making the fight ugly. His conditioning and ability to maintain pressure throughout rounds will determine his upset chances.

Jermall Charlo Returns

Jermall Charlo faces Thomas LaManna in what marks the return of one of boxing’s most talented middleweights. Charlo’s extended absence from active competition raises questions about ring rust and timing.

Jermall Charlo possesses elite-level power and boxing ability. His left hook can end fights instantly, while his overall skill set places him among the division’s best talents. The long layoff creates uncertainty about his current form and motivation.

Charlo’s jab sets up power shots effectively, and his ability to fight effectively at range makes him versatile. His return bout selection suggests a careful approach to returning to championship-level activity.

Thomas LaManna provides a suitable opponent for Charlo’s comeback. His durability and willingness to engage should provide adequate testing without overwhelming risk for the returning champion.

Rising Contender Action

Kyrone Davis meets Yoenli Hernandez in supporting action that could have implications for future title contention in their respective weight classes.

Davis represents American boxing’s developing talent pipeline, with technical skills and improving power. His amateur background provides a solid foundation for professional success.

Hernandez brings international experience and proven durability. His ability to make adjustments mid-fight and capitalize on any opponent’s mistakes makes him a dangerous opponent for any fighter.

Friday Night Boxing

Manuel Gallegos faces Khalil Coe on Friday, Maggio 30, 2025, from Guadalajara, Messico, kicking off the weekend’s boxing action. This bout will be available on DAZN.

The international setting provides an excellent atmosphere for competitive boxing. Both fighters enter with points to prove and opportunities to establish themselves in their respective divisions.

Viewing Information and Expectations

UFC Vegas 107 Details

The main card begins at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN+, with preliminary action starting at 6 p.m. ET exclusively on ESPN+. The Apex facility provides an intimate setting that often produces exciting fights due to fighters hearing crowd reactions and corner instructions more clearly.

The card’s depth suggests potential for multiple performance bonuses, as UFC events at the Apex frequently reward exciting performances with financial incentives.

Boxing Broadcast Information

The boxing events span multiple platforms and time zones. Saturday’s main boxing card begins at 8:00 PM EST on Amazon Prime, while Friday’s action streams on DAZN.

Analysis and Predictions

UFC Vegas 107 Outlook

The Blanchfield vs. Barber main event represents genuine title eliminator potential in the women’s flyweight division. Both fighters sit near championship contention, making this bout crucial for future title shot considerations.

Blanchfield’s grappling advantages appear significant on paper, but Barber’s athletic gifts and improved fight IQ could create competitive exchanges. The fight likely comes down to Barber’s takedown defense and ability to create damage during stand-up exchanges.

The co-main event between Gamrot and Klein provides excellent stylistic contrast. Gamrot’s wrestling should prove decisive unless Klein can implement a perfect gameplan of distance management and takedown defense.

Boxing Event Analysis

Plant’s return represents significant interest for boxing fans. His technical skills remain elite-level, but questions about motivation and ring timing following the Canelo defeat create intrigue.

Charlo’s comeback carries more uncertainty due to his extended absence. His natural talent suggests success against LaManna, but ring rust and timing issues could create competitive moments.

Dirrell (33-2-2, 24 KO), a two-time WBC 168-pound world champion, won the title for the first time with a unanimous decision over Sakio Bika in 2014. The native of Flint, me. dropped the title the next year to Badou Jack by majority decision, before putting together six straight victories to get back into position to fight for the championship again. He captured the title for a second time in 2019, winning a technical decision victory over Avni Yildirim. Più di recente, Dirrell battled Kyrone Davis to a draw in February, in his first fight since a title fight defeat against David Benavidez in September 2019.

"Sono molto pronto per questa lotta,” said Dirrell. “I know Hernandez is a tough competitor and I’m sure he’ll have a lot of fans there since we’re fighting on the same card as Canelo. But I know I’m ready to fight on the big stage and on a card of this magnitude. I fought on the Errol Spence Jr. vs. Shawn Porter undercard and I think this fight night is going to have a similar feel. I’m just prepared to do whatever I have to do to get the victory. The fans should expect fireworks. I’m not shying away from the action and hopefully I can get the winner of Canelo vs. Plant if I perform well on November 6.”

Fighting out of Fresno, Calif., Hernández (15-4-2, 3 KO) has faced excellent competition in his career, battling a litany of tough fellow rising contenders. The 28-year-old most recently scored an impressive unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Armando Resendiz in September. In addition to his recent triumph, Hernández has twice faced former unified super welterweight champion Jeison Rosario, fighting to a draw in their first meeting before losing the rematch. He has also taken down then-unbeaten fighters in Kevin Newman II and Thomas Hill.

“I’m having a great training camp for this fight coming off of my performance in early September,"Ha detto Hernandez. “As always, the fans can expect me to bring an entertaining fight. I know that I’m up against a former world champion who’s accomplished a lot in his career. I’m just focusing on working hard every day to get the victory and everything that will come with it.”

The former WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion, Vargas (34-0, 22 KO) will return from layoff due to injury when he enters the ring on November 6. The 30-year-old went on the road to the U.K. to capture his title in 2017, winning a decision over previously unbeaten Gavin McDonnell. Originario di Città del Messico, Vargas made five successful defenses of his title, defeating top contenders including Oscar Negrete, Ronny Rios and Azat Hovhannisyan. His last fight and fifth successful title defense came via a unanimous decision over former world champion Tomoki Kameda in July 2019.

“I’m very happy for my return to the ring and my debut with PBC,"Ha detto Vargas. “You are going to see a renewed Rey Vargas on November 6. My opponent is a good fighter with speed who throws a lot of combinations. It will be a tough fight, but I know I have what it takes to win. I couldn’t be happier to be on the big stage on Canelo’s undercard. I know that I have to shine on fight night, take advantage of this showcase, and deliver a great fight for the fans.”

The Baja California, Mexico native Báez (21-4, 12 KO) enters this fight the winner of his last three outings, all coming by TKO. The 26-year-old put together the winning streak after defeats to the previously unbeaten Carlos Caraballo and former title challenger Jason Moloney. Báez, who has fought professionally since 2013, will fight in the U.S. for the fourth time on November 6. Amongst his stateside outings, Báez dominated former interim champion Moises Flores on his way to earning a unanimous decision in February 2020.

“I’m excited for this great challenge on November 6,” said Báez. “I’m planning on giving the fans a true Mexican war and leaving it all in the ring to get the victory. It’s an honor to fight on the Canelo undercard and I’m going to make the most of it. This is going to be a toe-to-toe war, and I’m going to show that he’s not able to stand up to my power and aggression.”

Rodríguez (11-1-1, 10 KO) burst onto the scene with knockout victories in 10 del suo primo 11 combattimenti. He capped off a five-win 2020 campaign with a knockout of Cameron Krael in October and a decision victory against Luis Alberto Veron four months later. Fighting out of his native Santo Domingo, Repubblica Dominicana, Rodríguez most recently dropped a narrow majority decision against Kenneth Sims Jr. a maggio.

“I am very thankful to my team for getting me this tremendous opportunity opening up the pay-per-view for the biggest fight of the year, disse Rodriguez. “I have a tough opponent in front of me, but I’m in the best shape of my life. I’m ready to show everyone that I’m the real deal. My goal remains the same, and that’s to win a world title in 2022. Primo, I am just focused on November 6 and making sure I take advantage of the opportunity that a victory will produce on my road to the world title.”

Romero (14-0, 9 KO) diventato professionista in 2017 after fighting for his native Mexico at the 2016 Giochi Olimpici. The 31-year-old dispatched solid veterans Nestor Armas, Nestor Gonzalez and Ranses Payano in 2019, before earning a 10-round decision over Sergio Torres Alvarado in his only 2020 concorso. Romero made it back-to-back 10-round unanimous decision triumphs in April of this year, as he won his U.S. debut by defeating Deiner Berrio. Throughout his extensive amateur career, Romero owns an impressive victory over unbeaten welterweight contender Gabriel Maestre.

“I’m very excited that my team was able to get me this great opportunity to fight on a Canelo show in Las Vegas,"Ha detto Romero. “I feel just as happy and excited to fight as I did for the Olympic games. I’m going to prove what I’m made of on November 6. No matter who my opponent is, I always train hard and prepare to do whatever I can to earn the victory.”

“So cosa devo fare e so molto di lui.

“Sarà finito in otto round o meno. Sto per mettere fuori combattimento questo ragazzo. Facile."

CALEB IMPIANTO

Abbiamo sempre lavorato sodo in palestra.

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, Presidente, SHOWTIME Sports

Split-T Management’s Christopher Pearson ready for anyone at 160 o 168 lbs.

NEW YORK (Luglio 28, 2020) – Surging middleweight contender Christopher Pearson is ready for a breakthrough performance against any of the top names at 160 o 168 divisions.

Pearson of Trotwood, Ohio, is managed by Split-T Management, and he recently moved to San Antonio, Texas, ha un record di 17-2, and is riding a three-fight winning streak which includes a win over former Olympic Bronze Medal winner and undefeated Yamaguchi Falcao.

Pearson, who trains in Los Angeles under world-championship trainer Manny Robles, has already begun preparations for his next assignment.

I started training down here in San Antonio at Jesse James Leija’s gym. I just moved down here, and it took a minute to find a gym, but once the gym opened, this is a great place to be. I will go to Los Angeles on July 30th and start with Manny,” said Pearson.

Pearson, who began his career with 13 vittorie consecutive, feels that he is a stern challenge for anybody at middleweight or super middleweight.

I am looking to fight the best in those two divisions, and solidify myself as the best in the sport. I feel that that the 2nd half of my career is proving that I am the best.

The Falcao fight proved that Pearson can fight anyone in those divisions, and despite getting a late call for the fight, he performed at a high-level to come home with the emphatic unanimous decision victory.

I took that fight on four weeks notice. I am not short on confidence, and I know what I am capable of doing.

Recently Pearson had his named mentioned for a showdown with Canelo Alvarez, and he believes that Canelo’s handlers were not too keen in a fight with the 29 year-old Pearson.

I know that I am one of four or five guys from Golden Boy Promotions that was offered that fight. Out of all of those guys, they must of looked at me as a high-risk, low-reward fight. Fighting me is dangerous. They know me, because I have sparred with him, and he knows what I am capable of.

Canelo is a counter-puncher, but he is not better then me in the department. He has more power, but he is not as capable as me. Una volta che otteniamo sul ring, anything can happen..especially at 168 libbre.”

Another fight that I would like to get is with Jaime Munguia. He is at 160 pounds now. I can outclass him. I don’t see anything special about him. If it takes beating other fighters like David Lemieux or Taureano Johnson to get those fights, then bring them on. Right now I am ready to take on anyone.

THERE’S NO BETTER WAY TO CELEBRATE MEXICO’S INDEPENDENCE DAY THAN TO HAVE TWO MEXICANS DO BATTLE; ROBERTO GARCIA CALLS OUT JAIME MUNGUIA—“LET’S GET IT ON”

Dkp

Deerfield Beach, FL (Luglio 25, 2018)—Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin’s rematch is all set for Mexican Independence Day on September 15th a Las Vegas, but what better way to add a little war to the card than having two Mexicans do battle.

Roberto Garcia just witnessed Jaime Munguia’s unanimous decision over Liam Smith on Saturday night and if Munguia is ready to return to the ring on September 15th, Garcia is ready as well.

“What better way to celebrate Mexican Independence Day than to have two Mexican’s do battle,", ha detto Garcia. “We are both warriors. One veteran taking on one youngster. We both come to fight. Let’s get it on.”

Garcia is thankful to Zanfer Promotions (Munguia’s co-promoter with Golden Boy) for giving him his career defining fight against Julio Cesar Chavez’s son, Omar Chavez.

Garcia won that fight on Aug. 12, 2017 in a 10-round unanimous decision to win the WBC Silver Middleweight title.

Garcia lost his title in his first defense after traveling to England and losing a unanimous 12-round decision to Martin Murray on June 23, 2018.

“Two warriors doing battle, “Thunder vs Lightning” , both fighters coming forward all night , I’ll KO the “Kid” somewhere late in the fight or I win by unanimous decision.”

No doubt the fight would be epic.

DAMIENSUGARVAZQUEZ WANTS TO LOCK HORNS WITH ROMANCHOCOLATITOGONZALEZ

LAS VEGAS, NV (Luglio 18, 2018)Undefeated Las Vegas native, 21-anni Damien “Zucchero” Vazquez (14-0, 7 KO), wants to get in the ring with Romano “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KO), when he makes his return to the ring, rumored to be on the undercard of Canelo vs. GGG settembre 15, 2018.

Vazquez is the younger brother of former three-time super bantamweight world champion, Israel Vázquez. He’s been making noise in the lower weight classes since he captured the NABF Junior Flyweight Title as a teenager, all'età 17. Before turning pro, Vazquez compiled an impressive record of (83-3, 46 KO), unheard of in the amateurs. Vazquez is currently rated WBA #14, putting him in position to land a big fight, possibly a dream bout with Roman Gonzalez.

If Chocolatito is seeking an opponent for September 15th, then who better than me,” said Damien Vazquez, who on March 28, 2018, captured the vacant WBC Youth Silver Super-Flyweight Title against Luis Golindano (10-1, 7 KO). “I think it makes a lot of sense to make this fight because the fight is in Las Vegas, la mia città, and I’m Mexican. This would make for a classic showdown on Mexican Independence Day in Las Vegas, Mexico vs. Nicaragua, facciamo in modo che accada. It’s time for the new blood to take over.

Vazquez, che è gestito da Greg Hannely, di Principe Ranch Boxing, is trained by former world champions Joel Cassamayor e Bones Adams. In aggiunta, Vazquez owns his own promotional company, Promozioni zucchero. His last four bouts have taken place in Aguascalientes, Messico, all televised on the local government channel.

My fanbase has grown tremendously in Mexico, since we’ve been promoting shows in Aguascalientes,” Vazquez continued. “It would be an honor to share the ring with a legend like Gonzalez. I know we would both put on a great show for all the fans who’ll be watching. It will be an explosive fight, che posso garantire.”

“Guarda, Damien is a world class fighter who is hungry to make a name for himself,” suddetto Oscar Vazquez, who runs and operates Sugar Promotions. “If Tom Loeffler makes this fight with us, he will not regret it, that I can assure you.

Damien has worked very hard to get where he’s at today,” said manager Greg Hannley. “If this opportunity presents itself, then there’s no doubt in my mind that Damien will step up to the plate and give the fans a great show. He’s a true Mexican warrior, who fights with a lot of heart.

Undefeated Number-One Ranked Middleweight Contender Demetrius Andrade Ready to Step in to Fight Gennady Golovkin on May 5th

Philadelphia, PA /White Plains, NY (Marzo 26, 2018) — Undefeated, two-time world champion Demetrius Andrade (25-0, 16 KO) is ready and available for a showdown with unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, should Canelo Alvarez not be cleared by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on 10 aprile per il suo May 5th rematch with Golovkin.
Andrade, chi è il numero in classifica 1 by the WBO in the middleweight division, feels that if Alvarez is not cleared by the commission for his recent positive test for Clenbuterol, he would be the most obvious candidate to face Golovkin.
Sono pronto, willing and able to step to the plate on May 5th to fight Golovkin, stated Andrade. I am always in the gym, and I will start VADA testing right now. I guarantee that I will pass all the tests. I know other fighters can’t say the same thing. I am undefeated, and a two-time world champion. Golovkin went through a period where nobody wanted to fight him. I am that guy now. The man nobody wants to fight. Everyone says what does Demetrius Andrade bring to the table? Besides being the best American middleweight, and one of the top 3 middleweights in the world, everyone knows who I am, and they know how good I am. My question is to those who say that I don’t bring anything to the table. What did Murray, Adama, Geale, Monroe and Rosado bring to the table? None of the top contenders want to fight me so I believe that if Canelo is unavailable for May 5th, I want the opportunity to face Golovkin for the unified middleweight championship of the world.
Golovkin’s Promoter Tom Loeffler stated after Alvarez was temporarily suspended that his fighter will still compete on May 5th with or without Alvarez.
Whatever the commission does, Gennady would still fight May 5th if Canelo is out,” lui ha detto. “If for some reason it’s not against Canelo, we’ll figure out the best course of action at that time, but he is training to fight May 5th.”, Loeffler told Dan Rafael of ESPN.com
Come Golovkin, Andrade is also in the gym, and will be ready should he get the call for May 5th.
Andrade is promoted by Banner Promotions and Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.
