NEW YORK – marzo 26, 2020 - SHOWTIME Sports will delve into its rich archive of historic boxing events to re-air the epic Israel Vázquez vs. Rafael Márquez trilogy this Saturday, Marzo 28 a 10 p.m. ET / PT su Showtime. The telecasts will also be available via the SHOWTIME streaming service and SHOWTIME ANYTIME®.



The fierce Mexican rivals squared off in three consecutive award-winning fights which aired live on SHOWTIME in 2007 e 2008 before meeting for a fourth and final time in 2010. The first three bouts were all contested with the WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship on the line.



Described by the network’s Hall of Fame analyst Steve Farhood as, "Un'esplosione di brutalità artistico,” Vázquez-Márquez I was a unanimous selection for 2007 Fight of the Year and left the fans and fighters clamouring for a rematch. The two warriors delivered yet again in their second meeting just five months later in another bloody slugfest that produced a Round of the Year winner and a result that demanded a rubber match. Vázquez-Márquez III, contestato solo 363 giorni dal loro primo incontro, was the only match in the rivalry to go the distance and was named the 2008 Fight of the Year.



During Saturday night’s re-airing of the trilogy, combat sports analysts Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell will host a live episode of the duo’s popular digital talk show, MORNING KOMBAT WITH LUKE THOMAS AND BRIAN CAMPBELL sul Morning Kombat YouTube Channel. Thomas and Campbell will watch and react to the fights in real time and conduct a Q&A session with fans.



The Vazquez-Marquez series was called by the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® announce team, all four members of the International Boxing Hall of Fame: host and play-by-play from Steve Albert, popular ringside analyst Al Bernstein, Emmy Award winning reporter Jim Gray and world renowned ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr.



“We all knew the first fight would be great, and it more than lived up to expectations,” said Bernstein, who called all four fights. “The second fight was exciting, and when fight three came, I didn’t think they could top Nos. 1 e 2, but they did just that. It’s one of the top five fights I’ve ever announced or seen. The ebb and flow was tremendous, and you almost felt it didn’t matter who ended up getting the decision because they both had been so great. I can’t admire two boxers more than these two men.”

DAMIEN “SUGAR” VAZQUEZ WANTS TO LOCK HORNS WITH ROMAN “CHOCOLATITO” GONZALEZ

LAS VEGAS, NV (Luglio 18, 2018) – Undefeated Las Vegas native, 21-anni Damien “Zucchero” Vazquez (14-0, 7 KO), wants to get in the ring with Romano “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KO), when he makes his return to the ring, rumored to be on the undercard of Canelo vs. GGG settembre 15, 2018.

 

 

 

Vazquez is the younger brother of former three-time super bantamweight world champion, Israel Vázquez. He’s been making noise in the lower weight classes since he captured the NABF Junior Flyweight Title as a teenager, all'età 17. Before turning pro, Vazquez compiled an impressive record of (83-3, 46 KO), unheard of in the amateurs. Vazquez is currently rated WBA #14, putting him in position to land a big fight, possibly a dream bout with Roman Gonzalez.

 

 

 

“If Chocolatito is seeking an opponent for September 15th, then who better than me,” said Damien Vazquez, who on March 28, 2018, captured the vacant WBC Youth Silver Super-Flyweight Title against Luis Golindano (10-1, 7 KO). “I think it makes a lot of sense to make this fight because the fight is in Las Vegas, la mia città, and I’m Mexican. LAS VEGAS, NV (Settembre 24, 2017) – Unbeaten super-flyweight prospect, Damien “Zucchero” Vazquez (11-0, 6 KO), makes his return to the ring on Ottobre 14, 2017, at the Palenque de la Feria in Aguascalientes, Messico. Questa lotta, scheduled for 8-rounds, will mark the third time this year that Vazquez will have stepped in the ring, as he looks to extend on is winning streak. An opponent will be announced shortly.
“It’s a good feeling knowing that I’ll be back in the ring after I just fought a few weeks ago.” said Vazquez. “My last fight happened on August 31st e mi sento benissimo. Camp has started and I’m going to be ready for anyone my management team puts in front of me. I’m going to Mexico once again to mark my territory. I love fighting out there because the crowds are very rowdy. Make no mistakes about it, I’m taking the super-flyweight division by storm.”
Co-trained by former world champion, Clarence “Bones” Adams, Damien Vazquez is the younger brother of former two-time super-bantamweight world champion, Israel Vazquez, who also serves as his co-trainer. Bones and Israel train Vazquez at the Principe Ranch Boxing gym in Las Vegas. Boxing Prince Ranch Greg Hannley, co-manages Damien with his father, Oscar Vazquez. Damien has his own promotional company titled Promozioni zucchero.
“I’m very proud of my son and what he’s accomplished thus far in his career.” said Oscar Vazquez. “He became the youngest fighter to win the NABF title at 17-years old, after turning pro at age 16. We flew in Jonathan Lecona, a natural super-bantamweight out of Mexico, to help Damien get used to fighting bigger guys. He’s looking real sharp, and he’s going to be explosive in this fight.”
