KORG, NY – MARS 18, 2024 – International Boxing Hall of Fame och museum, som firar 35-årsjubileum i 2024, är glada att kunna meddela att Hall of Famer "The Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya kommer att delta i mästarnas bankett och andra evenemang som planeras för den 2024 Hall of Fame Induktionshelg inställd på juni 6-9.

De La Hoya slog ett tak 223-5 (153 Kos) amatörkarriär genom att ta lättviktsguld på 1992 OLYMPISKA SPELEN. Han blev proffs samma år och tog sin första världstitel – WBO:s superfjäderviktare – i endast sin 12:e proffsmatch och skulle fortsätta att vinna 10 världstitlar i sex viktdivisioner.

Bland mästarna han besegrade är Jorge Paez, John John Molina, Rafael Ruelas, Genaro Hernandez, Ike Quartey, Fernando Vargas, Ricardo Mayorga och Hall of Famers Hector Camacho, Julio César Chávez, Pernell Whitaker och Arturo Gatti.

WORCESTER, Mäss. The 27-year-old Rivera (6-0, 5 Kos) fought once again in front of his large, traveling fanbase from Hartford, CT, capturing the vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) light heavyweight title in dramatic fashion. The charismatic Hartford boxer ended his third consecutive match with what has become his trademark right-uppercut.

Rivera used his strength, energy and determined will to defeat South Boston’s Cobbs (10-3, 4 Kos), whose previous fight had been more than a year ago, when he was stopped in the second round by now world champion David Benavidez.

In only his sixth pro fight, the key question going into the bout was whether Rivera was ready to effectively step up in class to face a more experienced Cobbs. Right from the opening bell, the answer was a resounding, ja, as Rivera pounded Cobbs with powerful shots to the body and head.

Cobbs was dropped three times in the third round, one was ruled a push, and the end came when referee Jackie Morrell halted the action at the 2:51 as a reeling Cobbs was blasted backwards from the Rivera’s previously mentioned uppercut.

“I stepped things up in the third,” rivera förklarade. “He stopped throwing as many punches in the third and was ducking in. I said I wasn’t going to look for the knockout but, if it came, I’d take it. I got him with my uppercut. I respect Cobbs and thank him for giving me this opportunity.”

WORCESTER, Mäss. (Januari 24, 2018) – One of New England’s leading pro prospects, junior weltervikt Omar Bordoy, Jr, has prepared to make a statement February 10th vid “New England framtid 5”, presented Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE), vid The Palladium i Worcester.
Fighting out of Danbury, Connecticut, Bordoy (3-0, 1 KO) faces Puerto Rican-born opponent, Alexander “El Bravo” Picot (2-4-1), in a four-round bout. “My opponent is tough, and he always comes to fight,” Bordoy said. “He keeps coming forward and that’s going to make for an exciting fight.”
The 22-year-old Bordoy is the typical example of a volatile teenager who found his way in boxing. He was a high school football player who started boxing at the age of 17. Bordoy had an abbreviated amateur career, highlighted by his winning performance at the New England Golden Gloves as a novice boxer.
“I was a bad hot head as a kid,” Bordoy admitted. “En dag, my cousin Edgardo, invited me to his gym after football practice and he beat me up. I was knocked down a few notches. I got into boxing and enjoyed watching Miguel Cotto och Mike Tyson. I even have some of Cotto’s tattoos. NEW YORK (Juli 7, 2016) – Widely acknowledged as the preeminent Mexican-born fighter in history and one of the greatest prizefighters of all time, Julio César Chávez will be honored as Showtime Sports® airs classic Chavez fights in continuation of its year-long celebration of 30 år av Showtime MÄSTERSKAP BOXNING.

 

The month will be highlighted by four of the incomparable Chavez’ most memorable fights – against Hector “Macho” Camacho, Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker, the second of three fights with Frankie Randall and the rematch with Meldrick Taylor. All four fights will air Thursdays at 10 p.m. OCH/PT på SHOWTIME EXTREME (full schedule below).

 

För år, the revered ring legend was considered the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter. In an amazing 25-year-career (1980-2005), Chavez fought 115 gånger (107-6-2 med 88 knockouts). At the highest level, he competed in four weight classes – 130 pounds to 147 pounds – and was a six-time world champion in three divisions.

 

He holds records for the most world title successful defenses (27), most title fight victories (31), most title fights (37) and the second-most title defenses won by knockout (21, efter Joe Louis med 23). Chavez was 31-4-2 med 21 KOs in world title fights. A multiple Fighter Årets vinnare, Chavez was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011.

“Throwback Torsdag” Tidbits

  • WBC super featherweight champion Chavez (81-0) and his WBO counterpart, Camacho, fought on Sept. 12, 1992, i Las Vegas. JCC turned back a determined bid by “Macho” to take a unanimous 12-round decision.

 

  • Chavez had an 87-fight winning streak end when he and WBC welterweight champion Whitaker fought to a highly controversial 12-round majority draw in Sept. 10, 1993, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. One judge scored it for “Sweet Pea” by 115-113; the others had it 115-115.

 

  • Chavez was dealt his initial defeat on a 12-round split decision to nemesis Randall on Jan. 29, 1994. In the rematch the following Maj 7, Chavez won a razor-thin, split eight-round technical decision after the fight was stopped because of a large cut over Chavez’ eyebrow. Chavez and Randall would fight a third time, with Chavez taking the rubber match on a clear, unanimous 10-round decision on May 22, 2004.

 

  • Chavez went 2-0 against Taylor, winning by eighth-round knockout in a rematch on Sept. 17, 1994. In their initial fight four-and-a-half years earlier, Chavez rallied to win by 12th-round stoppage.

Dallas, Texas………. Forbes 30 Under 30 (Sport) entrepreneur, author, and professional athlete representative Adrian Clark has announced the second book of his guide series, titled, Skydda dig själv hela tiden: En guide för professionella boxare.

In unprecedented fashion, Clark delivers this blueprint for professional boxers with 12 rundor (chapters) of concise recommendations to help boxers empower themselves and protect their careers. Nya medlemmar kommer att införas på 11THårlig CBHOF galaInduktions middag på fredag natt,November 13 i Uncas Ballroom på Mohegan Sun.

Timothy (bilden till vänster med Sugar Ray Leonard) var boxning kommissionären av Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nationella kommissionen at Foxwoods från 1995 till 2009. Han leddes av sent John Burns, som var grundaren av CBHOF som han också är en induktör. Under sin tjänstgöring på Foxwoods, Timothy reglerade hundratals pro händelser, Inklusive 90 titel kamp. Höjdpunkter från hans regeringstid inkluderade CBHOF-induktör John Ruiz–Evander Holyfield III för WBA världen tungvikt och, kanske, den största kampen i Foxwoods historia, IBF världen Cruiser titel kamp mellan James Toney och Vassily Jirov. Andra stjärnor som kämpade på Foxwoods när Timothy var ansvarig inkluderar Roy Jones, Jr., Diego Corrales, Shane Mosely och Acelino Freitas, tillsammans med CBHOF värnpliktiga Dana Rosenblatt, Peter Manfredo, Jr. och US. Olympian Lawrence Clay-Bey.
Mace (72-18-2), född i Hartford, började slåss professionellt i slutet av 1940-talet. Hans mest anmärkningsvärda seger kom in 1950, stoppa förre världsmästaren Joe Giardello. Mace var medlem i CBHOF-chartermedlem Willie Pepär stabil och rankades vid ett tillfälle så hög som Nej. 8 välvikt i världen. Mace, vars sista skjutningen var en förlust för CBHOF medlemGaspar Ortega i 1962, bodde i Manchester när han gick bort i en ålder av 73 i 2003.
Russo hade 85 pro slagsmål mellan 1922 och 1934. Han flyttade till Bridgeport när han var sex och blev så småningom en lokal legend i boxning, drifts gym som Red Man Hall, Acorn Club och East Washington Avenue. I 1992, han förde boxning tillbaka efter en tio år lång frånvaro till den gamla PAL byggnad i Bridgeport. Russo erkändes också som “Johnny Duke of Southern Connecticut.”
Född i New Haven, den sena Sharnick levde nästan hela sitt liv i Norwalk, innan han återvände till Florida, där han valdes till Florida Boxing Hall of Fame 2012, till stor del för grundandet av Smart Boxer Institute. Sharnik var en bokförfattare för 23 år på Sports Illustrated, stryks av hans täckning av Cassiuslera–Sonny Liston Jag, citerade vilt för att säga, “Liston har nävar såsom kanonkulor.” Han fortsatte med att bli chef för konsult på CBS i nio år och var chefrådgivare och ensam troende i George Foreman'S comeback-bud som så småningom leder till en annan världens tungviktstitel. Sharnick var också rådgivare för CBHOF-medlem och två gånger världsmästare Marlon Starling, tala framtida världsmästare för att lägga till Eddie Futch som huvudtränare. Futch's assistent, CBHOF medlem Freddie Roach, skulle så småningom utbilda Starling när han blev världs weltervikt mästare.
Bayer var allmänt respekterad som en sann förespråkare för boxning, alltid snabba att ge en hjälpande hand, samt att öppna plånboken för att stödja boxning gym i städer som CBHOF invald Johnny hertigens Boys Club gym i Bellevue Square, Hartford.
