**A proposito di Michael Spinks**
Spinks è un campione del mondo in due divisioni, avendo tenuto il titolo indiscusso dei pesi massimi leggeri da 1983 a 1985, e il titolo lineare dei pesi massimi 1985 a 1988. La resa dei conti del titolo dei pesi medi dello scorso fine settimana tra Canelo Alvarez e Daniel Jacobs ha visto anche l'annuale Box Fan Expo, tenutosi presso il Las Vegas Convention Center. Gli incredibili cimeli in mostra e l'azione di boxe amatoriale dal vivo hanno completato una serie di combattenti campioni del mondo passati e presenti disponibili per rapidi incontri e saluti.

Come appassionato di boxe per tutta la vita, è stato un peccato che ho avuto solo poco più di due ore da trascorrere all'evento prima di tornare alla T-Mobile Arena per l'inizio degli incontri undercard. Il tempo che ho potuto trascorrere è stato davvero piacevole. I prezzi erano ragionevoli per incontrare queste leggende fistic e avere qualche momento per parlare e scattare foto. La media $20 -$25 il prezzo per un servizio fotografico era significativamente inferiore a quello che sarebbe andato perso al casinò in un singolo giro di roulette.

James Toney era lì in giacca e cravatta, dimostrando che può persino rendere elegante il plaid. Per un ragazzo noto per una natura scontrosa, era molto accomodante e ha detto che sarà a Filadelfia per uno spettacolo dal vivo a giugno 7 e spera di vedermi lì.

Nello stand successivo c'era l'emittente della Hall of Fame Al Berstein, che ho avuto il privilegio di intervistare nel 2011. Quando mi è stato detto della mia ammirazione per il suo lavoro di classe e di essere un fan sin dai suoi giorni con Barry Tompkins nei Thursday Night Fights di ESPN, era umile e riconoscente.

La linea per incontrare Roy Jones Jr. era lungo ma valeva la pena aspettare. Mentre il tempo per parlare con Roy era breve, Ho potuto menzionare quanto sia stato un onore incontrare uno dei più grandi interpreti della mia generazione e come mi sono seduto a pochi metri da lui quando era sul set di Creed II.

Mentre la fila per incontrare il leggendario Sugar Ray Leonard è stata eccezionalmente lunga, si vedeva che si stava davvero divertendo, sfoggiando quel sorriso da un milione di dollari e facendo il suo famoso servizio fotografico con i pugni alzati con i fan. Sfortunatamente, con il tempo che scorre a breve, Non ho avuto l'opportunità di incontrare uno dei miei combattenti preferiti crescendo. Mi sarebbe piaciuto mostrargli una foto quando avevo quattro anni, dondolando sul sacco da boxe di Sugar Ray Leonard che mi è stato dato.

A pochi metri di distanza c'era uno dei rivali più famosi di Sugar Ray, il grande Thomas “Hitman” Hearns. Mentre Hitman ha mostrato un certo rallentamento con l'invecchiamento, dimostra ancora di essere una figura imponente, ma ora sostituisce quello sguardo spaventoso con un sorriso caloroso.

All'incontro con Thomas Hearns c'era anche l'attuale campione IBF dei pesi super piuma Tevin Farmer, un collega di Filadelfia, che ho avuto l'opportunità di vedere crescere da un 7-4-1 pugile operaio a 29-4-1 campione del mondo.

La mia visita non sarebbe completa senza fermarmi a vedere "The Pazmanian Devil" Vinny Paz, sempre uno dei miei combattenti d'azione preferiti e personalità carismatiche. Invece di una stretta di mano, mi ha salutato con un grande abbraccio ed ha espresso disappunto per il fatto che mio padre non si fosse unito a me all'expo.

Nel breve lasso di tempo, era impossibile incontrare tutti i grandi combattenti, incluso Michael Spinks, Riddick Bowe, Errol Spence, Anthony Dirrell, e Earnie Shavers. Essendo il weekend del Cinco de Mayo, le linee per alcune delle leggende messicane avvolte intorno al pavimento del centro congressi. Mikey Garcia, Marco Antonio Barerra, Erik Morales, e Juan Manuel Marquez si sono rivelati tutti eccezionalmente popolari. Ma niente in confronto al boato della folla filo-messicana quando è stato presentato il grande Julio Cesar Chavez.

Partecipare a questo evento è stato un sogno che si avvera e potevo solo desiderare di avere più tempo da trascorrere all'evento. Tutto è stato fatto in modo così professionale e i presenti sono stati estremamente accomodanti.

LOS ANGELES (Novembre 30, 2018) – One day before the most significant heavyweight event in the U.S. in oltre 15 anni, heavyweight legends have descended on Los Angeles to discuss the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury showdown that will be live on SHOWTIME PPV^®Saturday night from STAPLES Center in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

A media roundtable featured heavyweight greats Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Gerry Cooney, Earnie Rasoi, Buster Douglas e Michael Spinks as they broke down Saturday’s battle of unbeaten giants.

EVANDER HOLYFIELD

“I feel that Deontay Wilder will win because eventually he’ll land that right hand. He’s very patient. He’s a thinker, but he can also take chances. When people take chances, they win.

“Deontay might not have as much experience as we did in our day, but he’s got the power. That’s what the people want to see and I think they’re going to be happy when they see it.

“There was a point in time where every great heavyweight was from the United States. We had a very good amateur program. I was the last true heavyweight champion from the U.S. before Wilder and until I lost the decision against Lennox.

“To be the heavyweight champion of the world, and to say you’re the best, you have to fight any man.”

LENNOX LEWIS

“I think it’s going to be a great fight. Deontay Wilder has a terrific right hand and when it lands, not too many people can stand up to it. I also think that you can’t hurt what you can’t hit. Tyson Fury is not an easy person to hit. He has great ability and movement. I’m going with Deontay early or Fury late.

“We all know how it feels to lose the heavyweight championship. We know how hard it is to gain it back. Fury has lost it, and now he wants it back. I can see now that he’s sacrificing and saying to himself that he shouldn’t have lost it, and now he has to regain it.

“I think the view in the U.K. is that Tyson Fury is the man that stepped up. The gauntlet was thrown out there and he stood up for Britain. Deontay came to England to challenge Anthony Joshua, but it was Tyson Fury who answered the call.

“I would say that there are a couple of meccas in boxing that are places where everyone wants to fight. Las Vegas, New York and of course, Los Angeles. My fight against Vitali Klitschko at STAPLES Center was a great fight. My plan that night was not to box to go the distance, I boxed to go a short distance and it did.”

RIDDICK BOWE

“I’m going with Deontay Wilder tomorrow night. He’s going to put on a great show for everyone and get another knockout.

“Tyson Fury is skilled and tall, ma a me, he doesn’t do enough on offense. He moves but he doesn’t move his hands enough.”

GERRY COONEY

“I think it’s a great fight tomorrow night. We know that Fury is coming back motivated. If Wilder finds a home for that right, he’s going to take Fury out. I think he’s going to connect at some point during the fight.

“I think Tyson Fury is a great man for how far he’s come back in his life and for standing up to Deontay Wilder. Fury called him out, so maybe he knows something we don’t know.

“I’m so glad to be up here. Look at all these great heavyweights and great guys. It’s special and they’re all here to watch this fight tomorrow night.”

EARNIE SHAVERS

“Me and Deontay are both from Alabama. I’ll be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame soon and Deontay will be there one day as well. Deontay is a great puncher and I’m pulling for him tomorrow night.

“I fought in a great era. If you fight guys on the same level, you’ll get good fights. These guys today could get in there in our day and put on a good show.”

BUSTER DOUGLAS

“I think this is going to be a good competitive fight. If I had to pick, I’d take Deontay Wilder by knockout in the eighth round.

“I feel like Tyson Fury has already won by battling back and getting into great shape and being in this position. I’m sure many people thought they’d never see him back here. That’s a victory in itself.

“My victory over Mike Tyson changed my life in a great way. I was now the heavyweight champion of the world. My dream had come true. Seeing my two youngest kids being born was the only thing that could top it.”

MICHAEL SPINKS

Las Vegas (Luglio 3, 2018) – Three Time World Champion Jessie Vargas has confirmed that he will appear and hold a Meet & Greet with his fans at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the fourth Annual Box Fan Expo su Sabato settembre 15, 2018 da 10 AM TO 5 PM, during Mexican Independence weekend. The Boxing Expo will also coincide with the highly anticipated rematch between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin, che si terrà più tardi quella sera.

Vargas will once again appear at this year’s Expo where he will be signing gloves, photos and merchandise at the Box Fan Expo storefront booth from 11 AM to 1 PM. Boxing fans will also have a great opportunity to take pictures with this boxing star. Vargas just came off from a spectacular performance in a mega fight that resulted in a draw versus Adrien Broner this past April at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Vargas is a Mexican American professional boxer who is a former two-weight world champion, having held the WBA (Regular) and IBO super lightweight titles in 2014 and the WBO welterweight title in 2016.

Vargas joins Erik Morales and Fernando Vargas among early commitments to this year’s Box Fan Expo.

Erik Morales Nicknamed “Il Terribile,” is a retired Mexican boxing legend and is being inducted into the International Boxing Hall of fame in Canastota on June 10th, 2018).Morales compiled a 52-9 record in 61 combattimenti, Compreso 41 straight wins to start his career, and won world titles in four different weight classes (junior featherweight, piuma, juniores leggero, welter junior). He also ended Manny Pacquiao’s six-year unbeaten streak in 2005 with a unanimous decision win.

Morales notable fights came against Marco Antonio Barrera (detto “Il volto assassino bambino”). The Morales versus Barrera trilogy is one of Boxing’s most famous fight trilogies of all time, involving two of Mexico’s most revered boxers. Their memorable fights were also named Ring Magazine’s fight of the year on February 19, 2000 and once again on November 27, 2004.

Las Vegas (Giugno 26, 2018) – Three-Time world champion Fernando Vargas has confirmed that he and his Feroz Fight Factory Gym will appear, have a booth and hold a Meet & Greet with his fans at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the fourth Annual Box Fan Expo che si terrà Sabato settembre 15, 2018 da 10a.m to 5pm, during Mexican Independence weekend.
