QUEBEC CITY (December 1, 2018) – Adonis Stevenson’s five-and-a-half-year reign as the WBC Light Heavyweight Champion is over. Oleksandr Gvozdyk dethroned boxing’s longest reigning champion with a devastating 11th round knockout Saturday in Quebec City in a Showtime Boxing: SPECIALE EDITIE telecast that immediately preceded the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury SHOWTIME PPV.

Gvozdyk (16-0, 13 KO) used a powerful multi-punch combination in the penultimate round to put the back-and-forth bout out of question. The former Olympic bronze medalist and amateur teammate of fellow Ukrainians Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk was impressive throughout the entire fight. He executed trainer Teddy Atlas’ game plan to perfection and was the busier of the two fighters. Stevenson (29-2-1, 24 KO), who was making his 10th titel verdediging, was able to land his signature left hand on several occasions, most notably in the tenth round, but never did enough to truly trouble his opponent.

“This win means everything to me. I’ve trained my whole life for this and tonight all of the hard work was worth it,” said Gvozdyk, who was the mandatory challenger for Stevenson. “Having Teddy [Atlas] in my corner was a huge help. He knew exactly what to say to me. We trained so well for this fight and I knew I was going to get the knockout.

“Adonis was a great champion but it’s my time now. He got me with a good shot in the 10th round but I handled it and finished him. Op dit moment, I just want to rest before I discuss my next step. I definitely want to stay at 175 pond. "

Stevenson was transported to a local hospital as precautionary measure and was unavailable for comment following the fight.

Saturday’s one-fight telecast from Quebec City will replay on Monday, December 3 bij 10 p.m. ET / PT op Showtime EXTREME en zal beschikbaar zijn op Showtime op elk moment worden® en Showtime on Demand®. De SHOWTIME BOKSEN: SPECIAL EDITION streamed live on SHOWTIME Sports social platforms and is archived on the SHO Sports YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Barry Tompkins called the action from ringside with former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analyst. De uitvoerend producent was Gordon Hall. Richard Gaughan produceerde en Rick Phillips regisseerde.

QUEBEC CITY (November 29, 2018) – Boxing’s longest reigning world champion, Adonis Stevenson, en ongeslagen, mandatory challenger Oleksandr Gvozdyk faced off Thursday at the final press conference ahead of Stevenson’s 10th defense of his WBC Light Heavyweight Title in a Showtime Boxing: SPECIALE EDITIE telecast Saturday, December 1 from Videotron Center in Quebec City.

Showtime Boxing: SPECIALE EDITIE will air live on SHOWTIME and stream for free on the SHO Sports YouTube channel en de SHOWTIME Boxing Facebook Page vanaf7:45 p.m. EN / 4:45 p.m. PT, immediately preceding the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury SHOWTIME PPV. Wilder vs. Fury begins at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT and also features unified 154-pound world champion Jarrett Hurd returning to take on Jason Welborn, Cuban heavyweight slugger Luis Ortiz facing-off against Travis Kauffman and rising heavyweight Joe Joyce vechten Joe Hanks.

Here is what Stevenson, Gvozdyk and their respective trainers had to say Thursday at Chateau Bonne Entente in Quebec City:

ADONIS STEVENSON:

“Saturday is a big fight. I’m not underestimating Gvozdyk. I know he’s a good fighter and he’s hungry. He’s trained very hard to get my title. But everybody who comes to my home in Canada always wants my title, but it’s never happened and it’s not going to happen now.

“I’m looking for the knockout. That’s just my mentality and the way that I train. Suiker [Hill Steward] trains me to think that way but I can also go 12 rondes, it’s not a problem. I know that if he makes a mistake, I’m going to catch him. He only has to slip up once in 12 rondes. One mistake, one punch. That’s all it’s going to take. Ik ben klaar. I know I can punch and it’s 12 rondes. I just need one punch. Just one. I’m going to catch him and the night will be over.

“I’ve been pushing myself in training and I’m going to put on another great performance come Saturday and will defend my title once again. In the words of my old trainer, Emanuel Steward, ‘knockouts selland that’s what I’m going for in this fight. I know I’m facing a good boxer who’s coming in very determined. He’ll be ready, but it won’t be enough. Superman is in the building!"

OLEKSANDR GVOZDYK:

“I’m glad to finally be here. Ik ben zeer enthousiast. I want to thank Top Rank and GYM Promotions for finally making this happen. I respect Adonis Stevenson as a fighter, he’s a great champion. But I am ready to accept this challenge and on Saturday night there will be a new champion.

“I have one of the greatest trainers in the history of boxing so I’m very confident. We have a good strategy. We had an excellent training camp and I’m ready. Adonis is a great fighter. He’s a dangerous southpaw and this is a real step-up for me but it’s my time.

“People always ask about Stevenson’s age but George Foreman and Bernard Hopkins performed at a high level when they were 50-years-old. It really just depends on how you maintain your body, your living conditions, how you eat and how you train.

“I’m not worried about what the bookmakers say. It doesn’t mean anything that they think I am the favorite. I try to stay focused on the things that I need to be focused on, not what the bookmakers think. The further this fight goes, the better my chances are. My height, my movement and my patience will win me this fight.”

SUGAR HILL STEWARD, STEVENSON’S TRAINER

“I’m happy to be here once again. This is like a second home for Adonis. This fight is just going to be regular Adonis. Adonis wants to get a knockout. Ik hou van knockouts. This is how we train for every fight. It’s no disrespect to any fighter, but that’s just the mentality that we have. Adonis and I don’t believe in leaving it in the hands of the judges and that’s been working so far. We will continue to do what we’ve been doing.”

“Adonis has been training his whole life for something like this. This is a big world championship fight against a former Olympian. Welcome to big time boxing, this is what it’s all about. Kom december 1, Adonis Stevenson is going to get another knockout.”

TEDDY ATLAS, GVOZDYK’S TRAINER

“We knew that this would be a very difficult fight but what we didn’t know was how difficult it would be to get here. That part of the fight is over, thankfully. We spent eight weeks in California preparing for this bout. Preparing for a tremendous champion. I don’t have to speak about how long he’s been a champion, his reign, his experience, how talented and dangerous he is as a puncher. I believe he’s the best or second-best puncher in boxing today. It’s either him or [Deontay] Wilder, whatever you choose.

“Stevenson has all of the qualities a great fighter needs. He has a great heart, he’s gotten off the canvas and showed tremendous heart late in the Badou Jack fight. This is quite a task that’s in front of us. We understand that. The good news is that we know exactly what we’re facing and we’ve prepared the last eight weeks for that. We have not overlooked anything. I have no doubt that although we have a very steep challenge in front of us, that on Saturday night we will have a new Light Heavyweight Champion of the World.”

The December 1 SHOWTIME PPV and COUNTDOWN LIVE presentations feature two of the most feared knockout punchers in the sport. Met 39 knockouts in 40 professionele gevechten, Wilder’s right hand is widely regarded as the biggest weapon in boxing. The southpaw Stevenson’s left has led to knockouts in six of his nine title defenses. In december 1, the two power-punchers will take on top-rated, undefeated opponents as they make the 10th and eighth defenses of their respective WBC titles.

Stevenson (29-1-1, 24 KO) is boxing’s longest reigning world champion, having won the WBC 175-pound title in 2013. The Montreal-based southpaw will face his WBC-mandated challenger in Gvozdyk (15-0, 12 KO), a Ukrainian with 12 knockouts in zijn 15 professional fights since a standout amateur career that included a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympische Spelen.

In Gvozdyk, Stevenson will face his second consensus top-10 light heavyweight of 2018, following his Fight of the Year candidate draw with Badou Jack in May on SHOWTIME. Gvozdyk, an amateur teammate of fellow Ukrainians Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk, earned the mandatory status with a near-shutout decision over Mehdi Amar in March.

I’ve been pushing myself in training to be ready to put on a great performance December 1 and defend my title once again,” zei Stevenson. “My old trainer, the late great Emanuel Steward, used to tell me that ‘knockouts selland that’s what I’m going for in this fight. I know I’m facing a good boxer who’s coming in very determined. He’ll be ready, but it won’t be enough. It’s going to be show time on SHOWTIME and another victory for ‘Superman’.

I have been waiting for this title shot for a very long time, and I will take full advantage of the opportunity,” said Gvodzyk. “It doesn’t matter where we fight. I am fully prepared to become the new WBC light heavyweight champion. Canada, ‘The Nailis coming to put on a show!”

Chavez, Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KO) is the son of Mexican boxing legend and Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. The 32-year-old from Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico ripped off 46 straight victories to start his career using a gritty boxing style that denoted his toughness in the ring. Chavez is seeking to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on May 6, 2017.

The 36-year-old Angulo (24-7, 20 KO) is a tough brawler who has faced some of the best boxers in the sport. Angulo, who lives in Coachella, California but was born in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, is coming off a hard-fought split decision loss to former world champion Sergio Mora in April.

I am excited to be back on December 1 to perform for the great Mexican fans in Los Angeles,” said Chavez Jr. “At my weight I know I can beat anyone. I am focused and feel strong. Angulo will be first, but then I will pursue a belt at 168. I’m putting the division on notice. Chavez is back.

I have been training very hard in anticipation of this fight and this is the best I have felt in a long time,” Said Angulo. “I am looking forward to defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and getting a title opportunity in the near future. I’m thankful for everyone who has supported me and I promise to surprise a lot of people on December 1.

Julian Williams Training Camp Notes

Super Welterweight Contender Takes on Nathaniel Gallimore Saturday, April 7 in 154-Pound Title Eliminator Live on SHOWTIME from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas

SAINT CHARLES, ZOALS (Maart 30, 2018) – Top super weltergewicht mededinger Julian “J-Rock” Williams will look to put himself closer to another world title shot when he faces Nathaniel Gallimore in a 154-pound world title eliminator Saturday, April 7 live on SHOWTIME from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

The Premier Boxing Champions event is headlined by Erislandy Lara, the longest reigning world champion at 154-pounds, clashing with undefeated champion Jarrett Hurd in a highly anticipated 154-pound world title unification bout. De Showtime Championship Boxing uitzending begint om 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT and also features super middleweight world champion Caleb Truax in a rematch against former champion James DeGale.

The 12-round IBF title eliminator gives Williams a chance to earn a second world title fight, while it would be Gallimore’s first shot at the title. Gallimore has been outspoken in his belief that he will stop Williams, but Williams has chosen to not let the words affect him and focus on the task at hand.

I have no reaction to the talk coming from Gallimore,” zei Williams. “He’s trying to draw attention to himself and doing it in a classless way. If he wants a back-and-forth, he’s going to be talking to himself.

He seems like he’s a strong fighter, but you never really know until you step in the ring with a guy. He’s on a hot streak, he’s a big puncher and obviously he has a lot of confidence. We thought this would be a good test and I think it’s going to be a great fight for the fans.

Williams is currently finishing up training camp at the SNAC gym in San Carlos, California with trainer Stephen Edwards. In addition to work in the first part of training in Philadelphia with DeCarlo Perez and Jaron Ennis, he has sparred with the likes of Peter Quillin, Prenice Brewer and Joey Spencer in California.

I’ve been coming out to California for parts of camp since 2014 and it’s really just something that gives me a bit of a spark heading into the fight,” zei Williams. “There are some elevation and recovery aspects of training that we can do out here. It’s also a good way to get away from things and really dig to another level.

Williams has been on the road back to title contention after dropping his first title shot to Jermall Charlo in 2016. Williams knew that he did not need to revamp his entire game and has recovered with victories over former champion Ishe Smith and Joshua Conley leading into this fight.

I thought I was doing well in the Charlo fight so I never pushed the panic button after it didn’t go my way,” zei Williams. “Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. The plan was always to improve each fight and each day in camp, so that’s what we’re still doing. We’ll see on April 7 if it’s enough.

With an opponent who enters this fight on a seven-fight knockout streak, Williams knows he will have to use all of his physical and mental skills to pull out the victory.

It’s going to be up to me what this fight looks like,” zei Williams. “In the ring you have to be mature. I can’t get drawn into the kind of fight that he wants. If I stay focused, I should dominate him.

I’m never going to look past anybody. I know that there’s nothing I can do in my future in this sport if I don’t beat Gallimore. I’m ready to go in there and look impressive on April 7.

Tickets for the show, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, are on sale now and available by visiting AXS.com or the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas Box Office.

PROMOTER LEWKOWICZ SAYS PERALTA NO LONGER A CAB DRIVER AFTER HUGE UPSET VICTORY OVER ROBERT GUERRERO

Sampson Lewkowicz, promoter of suddenly red-hot welterweight David EmanuelEl Pirata” Peralta, says big changes are on the way for his cab-driving Argentinean fighter.
Op Zaterdag nacht, Peralta (26-2-1, 14 KO), een 70:1 underdog, came out of retirement to win a surprise 12-round split decision over former world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Californië.
The victory, televised nationally on PBC on Spike, has changed 33-year-old Peralta’s fortunes in the talent-rich welterweight division.
He is no longer a cab driver,” laughed a happy Lewkowicz, post-fight. “David came out of retirement to take this fight when I offered it to him. Now his life will change. He will go back to being a full-time fighter and I will find him another big fight to win.
Lewkowicz, credited with discovering Manny Pacquiao and Sergio “Zich afvragen” Martinez among many others, says his Argentinean fighter was taken lightly because he had never fought outside his homeland, but he knew what he could do.
David is very talented fighter and very tough,” zei Lewkowicz. “We knew Guerrero was in a tough battle against him, but no one else did. And I thank the great champion Robert Guerrero for giving him the opportunity. He and his team have our utmost respect.
Lewkowicz says he will get to work finding Peralta another big opportunity as soon as possible.
You have to like David. He is very humble and honest and he fought his heart out and now everybody knows his name. He’s a special fighter and I’m very happy to be his promoter. He was only retired because he thought nothing would ever happen in his career. He’s back now and he’ll be in the gym full-time. His cab can wait. I will find him a big fight against another top contender and try to get him in line for a world title shot. Or if Robert Guerrero feels like he wants an immediate rematch, we would give it to him. He gave us the chance.

“Ja, I want to fight bigger names now, no way I’m going to retire now. I’ll be ready again to fight soon, this was no joke and I can beat a lot of great fighters.
Said a disappointed Guerrero, “I thought I clearly won the fight. For the judge to say I lost eight rounds sounds crazy to me. Peralta was very awkward but I felt I won. I won the rounds when I boxed. This is very disappointing but I’ll be back, that you can count on.
In a 10-round battle between two Mexican warriors, Freddy Hernandez, (34-8, 22 KO), won een unaniem besluit over Alfred “Hond” Angulo, (24-6, 20 KO). Scores waren
98-92 en 97-93 tweemaal. Vanaf de opening bel, it was bombs away with both fighters unloading thunderous power shots. Hernandez seemed to have more on his punches as Angulo slowed over the first few rounds.
Although continuing with heavy pressure and moving forward in his aggressive style, Angulo was not able to score consistently as Hernandez kept his distance and used a solid jab to control the action.
Said the happy Hernandez following the fight, “I felt great, I know I clearly won the fight. This weight is too big for me, I’m not a super middleweight or a middleweight. He still punches hard but I hit him harder vanavond.
I have a great deal of respect for Alfredo, vanavond the people saw two real Mexican warriors.
2012 U S. Olympiër Terrell Guasha, (19-0, 9 KO) remains undefeated with a 10-round majority decision over the Bronx’s Steve Martinez, (16-3, 13 KO) in the opening bout of the PBC on Spike telecast.

Gausha continued to score points in the first half of the fight with stunning and accurate body shots to slow down the aggressive Martinez. Gausha’s success continued throughout the fight controlling the action and distance with his jab with Martinez scoring occasionally with powerful right hands shots. Scores at the end of the of the entertaining bout were 97-93 twice for Gausha and 95-95.
Said the happy winner Gausha, “He was aggressive but I was able to solve him. This was a real test and just what I needed, I need the competition to be the best and become a world champion.
I wasn’t surprised by the one scorecard for a draw, it was a close fight but I definitely won.

Hier is wat de strijders moesten donderdag zeggen:
Robert Guerrero
I got a chance to size him up today. I saw how tall he is. Picking my spotsseeing where I have to go. After looking at him, I know he’s coming to fight. I’m expecting a war.
Like all Argentine fighters, I know he’s got that hunger to prove he’s worthy of this big opportunity and make the most of it.
The weigh-in is morgen and I’m just ready to fight. I’m focused and the fans can expect to see me leave everything in the ring like always.
I’ve seen some tape on him. He’s one of those guys that is durable. A durable tall, lanky guy. His height is going to help him.
I am expecting a tough fight for sure. This is like a world title shot for him. I don’t know what he is going to bring to the table and that is exciting for me.
DAVID EMANUEL PERALTA
This is the biggest fight of my career. It is very important. I have to go out there and put on a great show.
I want to go down the same path as Marcos Maidana and Lucas Matthysse. They were given great opportunities in their careers and took advantage of them. I am going to take advantage of this opportunity.
This is an opportunity to learn. Every fight and fighter is different. I have watched Guerrero fight, but every fighter is different. I have a gameplan to beat him.
I am well prepared. I came here to fight. I am prepared to go the distance. I am going to throw a lot of punches, move around and be ready to get the decision.
Alfredo Angulo
I’m very excited to fight op zaterdag night against Freddy Hernandez.
With two Mexican warriors in the ring, the fans will be the true winners.
I was off for a while but with my new trainer, Romulo Quirarte, I feel much stronger and will fight like ‘El Perroof old with the same passion.
The fans have always been great to me and I can’t wait to put on a performance for them.
Right now I’m only focused on Freddy Hernandez then we will see who I can fight next.
FREDDY HERNANDEZ

Fans can expect someone that will step into the ring with attitude and bravery. I’m a guy that doesn’t hold back and Angulo better be ready.
What’s my secret weapon? Chocolate cake.
I’m just ready for this fight. I worked hard and any time two Mexicans get into the ring, it’s fireworks.
TERRELL Gausha
I had a different experience with the Olympics. I missed the trials. I was taking time off from boxing. I lost the passion for it a little bit and I took some time off, but I was able to fight for a spot on the team, and I wont every fight I was in leading into the Olympics.
I am excited for this fight. I trained really hard. Sometimes you have to take chances. I am ready to be aggressive and I am ready to change up my style in order to counter him.
“Ik weet dat dit gaat om een zware strijd worden. It is going to be my toughest fight to date. It is important for me to take a step up and show the world what I can do.
I appreciate my fans for sticking with me. Without fans, there would be no boxing. I appreciate my fans and I want to go out there op zaterdag night and give them a great show.
STEVE MARTINEZ
Our fight is going to steal the show. I think its really competitive and exciting. We’re hungry. We came here to execute the game plan and win. It is going to be explosive.
We trained hard. This is a big opportunity. This is a change-up fight for me and my team. We are focusedits tunnel vision until Zaterdag. On Spike you’re going to see that after our fight, he won’t be undefeated anymore.
“Dit is absoluut de grootste strijd van mijn carrière. It is going to open up big doors for me.
My parents are big boxing fans. I watched boxing all my life. The minute I walked into the boxing gym, I never looked back.
