NEW YORK (Februari. 4, 2016) - Rond 2 van de Showtime Sport® 12-ronde herdenkingsviering 30 jaren van Showtime Championship Boxing® gaat in februari verder met 'Rivalries' aanSHO EXTREME®.

 

Deze maand staat in het teken van vijf van de meest opwindende en gedenkwaardige gevechten in de boksgeschiedenis: de twee Paulie Ayala-Johnny Tapiaveldslagen en de eerste drie Israël Vazquez-Rafael Marquez oorlogen.

 

Ayala-Tapia was ik 1999 Fight of the Year; Ayala was 1999 Fighter van het Jaar.

Boksen zonder rivaliteit zou zijn als verkiezingen zonder debatten.

Rivaliteit is natuurlijk, vooral in het boksen. Wie is de beste prospect in de buurt?

Wie is het beste bantamgewicht in Mexico? Wie is de beste jager ter wereld?

Fans willen het weten, en dat geldt ook voor de vechters, vooral als een een-op-een matchup waarschijnlijk een definitief antwoord zal geven.

Het beste voorbeeld komt van de beste rivaliteit in de geschiedenis, ongeacht sport: Toen Muhammad Ali en Joe Frazier botsten in hun rubberen wedstrijd in Manilla, ze vochten voor iets veel groters dan de wereldtitel zwaargewicht. Ze vochten om het kampioenschap van elkaar.

Ali-Frazier … Robinson-LaMotta … Louis-Schmeling … Barrera-Morales … Mayweather-Pacquiao … Pep-Saddler … Leonard-Duran ... Holyfield-Tyson: De geschiedenis van boksen wordt verteld door zijn sappigste rivaliteit.

In 30 jaren van gedenkwaardige vechters en onvergetelijke gevechten, De geschiedenis van SHOWTIME boksen kan ook grotendeels worden verteld door zijn rivaliteit.

Op Showtime EXTREME, we zullen ons in het bijzonder concentreren op twee rivaliteit: Rafael Marquez-Israel Vazquez en Paulie Ayala-Johnny Tapia.

Marquez-Vazquez is de gelijke van elke koppeling in de recente geschiedenis. De gevechten waren zo overtuigend, de rivaliteit was zo zwaar dat veel fans je niet kunnen vertellen wat het uiteindelijke scorebord was. Het maakte niet zoveel uit.

Ze lieten ons geen onzin praten, geen houding, geen haat, echt of ingebeeld. In plaats daarvan, ze sloegen en bloedden en vochten trots en op het hoogste niveau. En vanwege het klassieke ringdrama dat ze creëerden, dat was meer dan genoeg.

Het volstaat te zeggen dat twee van hun periodes zijn gekozen tot Fight of the Year. En Marquez-Vazquez III was zeker een van de beste gevechten die ik live heb behandeld in mijn 37 jaar in het boksen.

Met Ayala en Tapia was het een beetje anders. Toen ze voor het eerst vochten, Ayala was geen bekende naam. Muur, aan de andere kant, was een ongeslagen en lang regerend kampioen met een unieke persoonlijkheid en een onderscheidend ringpersonage.

Full Card Announced for Saturday Night’s ‘Detroit Brawl’ bij Masonic Temple

The full card has been announced for promoter Dmitriy Salita’s “Detroit Brawl” ditZaterdag, Februari 6, bij 6:30 pm at the iconic Masonic Temple in Downtown Detroit.

In vier-ronde vlagen, light heavyweight James Ballard (5-0, 2 KO) of Detroit battles Nathan Bedwell (5-15, 4 KO) of Lexington, Tennessee; cruiserweight Emilio Salas (4-1-1, 2 KO) of Coamo, Puerto Rico, faces Jackson, Michigan’s Karinn Davis (2-5, 2 KO); and Canadian super welterweight Kane Heron (2-0, 1 KO) will face Michigan’s Brian Otey (0-1).

SANTA MONICA (Februari 3, 2015) - Sergei Kharitonov (23-5) is the newest free agent by Bellator MMA, with the news that the Russian heavyweight has been signed to an exclusive multi-year, multi-gevecht contract. A veteran of both Strikeforce and Pride Fighting Championships, Kharitonov remains on active duty with the Russian Airborne Troops.

 

Doubling as a kickboxer at different points throughout his combat sports career, “The Paratrooper” has decided to parlay his recent five-fight winning streak and focus purely on mixed martial arts. Kharitonov’s resume is extensive, with the 35-year-old scoring wins against some of the sport’s most notable names including UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum, Andrei Arlovski, Pedro Rizzo, Murilo “Ninja” Rua, and Alistair Overeem.

In addition to his 2012 National Golden Gloves Championship, Martin won three Chicago Golden Gloves and a National PAL championship fighting out of nearby Harvey, Illinois. An owner of 340 amateur wins, he made it to the United States finals where he lost to eventual Olympian, Errol Spence Jr. Martin turned pro in 2013 and is yet to lose. The 26-year-old picked up four victories in 2015 and will begin 2016 against the 29-year-old Nicaraguan Gomez who will be making his U.S. debuut.

“Training is good. I really do not know much about Gomez, but that doesn’t matter much at all because I just go in there and like to fight.”
Martin is ready to showcase his skills for the first time in front of a nationally televised audience and he knows this is just the beginning of positioning himself into bigger fights.
“It is a big step for me. This will show me and the fans how good I am and where I can go in my career.”
Without looking too far down the line, Martin would love a chance at his old amateur rival, Spence. Martin knows that he needs to continue winning and looking good to get that opportunity within in the next year.
“Spence is definitely on my radar. I can see us fighting by the end of 2016 or early 2017. I feel that I will be ready for that fight. He is just one of a few guys that I want to fight on my way to the top. I am just hoping that everyone tunes in on February 9th and the fans will remember my national television debut.”

Lewiston, Maine (Februari 3, 2016) - New England Fights (NEF), Amerika's nummer een regionale strijd promotie, zal zijn volgende evenement te houden, “NEF 21: IMMORTALS” dit Zaterdag, Februari 6, 2016 bij de Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine. The event will feature both mixed-martial-arts (MMA) and professional boxing bouts with an MMA cage and a boxing ring set up side-by-side. All of the fighters competing on Saturday night will be at the weigh-in, including MMA headliners Bruce “Pretty Boy” Boyington (12-8) and Jon Lemke (5-3), as well as boxing main event participants Brandon “De Cannon” Bes (10-1) and Tollison Lewis (2-0). I want to thank The Claridge Hotel for being the host to this event. We have four dates this year with March 19th as our kick off and in May as our following date. I also want to thank all the boxers that risk their lives and participate in Rising Star events to please the fans because that is what it’s all about. My mission as President is to give back to the fighters and make them feel appreciated. A big goal we have is to bring the “sport” back into boxing and not just “business”. It continues March 19th on the boardwalk in Atlantic City.”

LaManna (19-1, 7 KO's) van de nabijgelegen Millville, New Jersey will be making his second consecutive appearance at The Claridge. LaManna won a 8-round unanimous decision over Ariel Vasquez on December 5th.

Mayfield won the IBF Cruiserweight championship when he won a 12-round unanimous decision over Uriah Grant on November 8, 1997. He made one defense and was stopped by Arthur Williams on October 30, 1998.
Mayfield won the USBA Cruiserweight title with 10th round stoppage over Gary Wilcox on June 30, 2001.
Mayfield has also fought world champions Juan Carlos Gomez, Krzystof Wlodarczyk and Alexander Povetkin.

Sampson Boxing Wins Right to Promote McJoe Arroyo vs. Jerwin Ancajas IBF Super Flyweight Championship Fight

A purse bid procedure was held today in the IBF offices in New Jersey and promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing has won the right to promote the IBF Super Flyweight Champion McJoe Arroyo’s first mandatory defense, against Jerwin Ancajas
Sampson Boxing now has 15 days to submit the executed contracts (no later than Februari 17, 2016) and the fight must take place within 90 dagen or by Mei 2, 2016. Lewkowicz says Ancajas’ home country of the Philippines is the probable location for the fight.
Arroyo (17-0, 8 KO), from Fajardo, Puerto Rico, is a 30-year-old southpaw. He won the championship last July with a 10-round technical decision over Arthur Villanueva. Ancajas (24-1-1, 16 KO), nicknamed “Pretty Boy” is a 24-year-old southpaw.
