Philadelphia, Penn. (Maart 5, 2018)–Despite a driving snowstorm, fans packed a sold-out SugarHouse Casino to watch the continued rise of bantamweight Christian Carto, de 21 year-old remained perfect with a eight-round unanimous decision over James Smith.
The show, which took place this past Vrijdag night was promoted by King’s Promotions.
Carto was very sharp with his punches, and controlled the action against a willing opponent in Smith.
Carto used his full arsenal, as he was pinpoint with his jab, accurate with his books and worked the body effectively throughout the contest.
Carto thrilled his throngs of supporters as he constantly was on the offensive, and showed his dominance by cruising to the victory by scores of 80-72 tweemaal en 79-73.
Carto of Philadelphia is now 14-0. Smith of Detroit is now 12-2.

In de co-functie, Christopher Brooker wrestled the WBF Americas Super Middleweight title with a hard fought eight-round unanimous decision over Jamaal Davis in a battle of Philadelphia-based super middleweights.
Most of the fight was contested at close quarters with Brooker using his size on the inside to get the better of the action. Davis had moments using his uppercut, but it was Brooker’s uppercut and body work that was the difference in the battle.

Vazquez van Yonkers, NY is 10-3 met 4 knock-outs. Gonzales of Philadelphia falls to 8-3-2.
Despite scoring two knockdowns, Jerrod Miner had to settle for a majority draw with Rondarrious Hunter in their four-round super flyweight bout.
Miner took a card 39-35, while two cards read even at 37-37.

Carto stopped his 1st eleven opponents, but had to go the full distance of eight-rounds in his last two outings. Carto was not disappointed that his knockout streak ended.
“It would have been nice to have kept that streak going, but I am not upset. I actually thought in my last fight against Luis Saavedra that I was close to getting him out of there but he did a good job in hanging in there and going the distance. It was a good experience to go eight-rounds. I spar 10-12 rondes, so I knew I could go eight rounds.”

Russian cruiserweight Alexey Zubov knows what’s at stake when he enters the ring deze zondag in Detroit.

“Everything was perfect in my training this time,” said Zubov. “I love working with Javan, he has helped me grow so much as a fighter. And Anthony Dirrell taught me a great deal as well. I will be showing what I’ve learned deze zondag.”
Although he’s not taking him lightly, the formerly heavily decorated amateur Zubov says his studies of opponent Csomor haven’t revealed much he hasn’t seen before.
“I’ve watched a little bit of him on tape and he does nothing out of the ordinary. I’ve fought guys like him before who have the same style. And I always handle them very well.”
Zubov, looking to face the likes of WBO champ Oleksandr Usyk, countryman Denis Lebedev, or any of the division’s other big names, says his return to national television will be nothing like the first time. Detroit bantamweight action hero James Gordon Smith (11-0, 6 KO) knows what boxing fans in Detroit have come to expect from him… and he doesn’t mind one bit.
“People want to see you exciting in there; we are in the hurt business,” aldus Smith. “They don’t want to pay to see a guy running the whole fight. It’s not exciting that way. I fight the way fans love. You make more money that way.”

26-year-old Smith was 110-9 as an amateur and won four national championships and two silvers and a bronze in the National Golden Gloves.
“Once I turned 21, I started realizing my fighting style was more of a pro style. I was handling guys and then they were saying I was losing on points. That’s when I realized amateur boxing wasn’t for me anymore. I talked to my coaches, Keith Jackson and Theotrice Chambers, and they told me it was time.”
Smid, who is hopeful of making his national television debut in the near future, says he’s been fine tuning his style, while leaving all the thrills in place.
“We’ve been working on defense and not getting hit as much and on putting punches together. I’ll be trying to average 100 to120 punches a round. I would love to fight on ShoBox this year. Dmitriy Salita is looking for a date for me in mid-March. I just want to fight on TV. With my style and the way I fight, all it would take is for fans to see me fight one time and they’ll see what I can do. All I need is the right opponent. It’ll be beautiful. It will be like Micky Ward against Gatti.”
Smith also says he’s not worried about competing in his first eight-round fight.
“It’s a good fight for my first eight-rounder. Hij is een goede vechter. I’ve seen him a couple times. He looked decent on YouTube. He’s got good hand speed. Bigger, Stronger Heavyweight Version of Junior Wright to be Unleashed against McCreary at Detroit Brawl on January 22, at Masonic Temple in Detroit

Former cruiserweight world title challenger “Orkaan” Junior Wright has been hitting the weights hard and will enter the ring for the first time as a heavyweight in his next ring appearance.
Wright (15-2-1, 12 KO) from Evanston, Illinois, expects to come in at a muscular 225 lbs. when he takes on Detroit’s Damon McCreary (15-6, 11 KO) in an eight-round featured bout on promoter Dmitriy Salita’s special Zondag edition of his “Detroit Brawl” series on Januari 22, 2017, at Masonic Temple in Detroit.

“Training gaat goed,” said Wright. “I’m treating this like another world title fight because at this level anyone could beat you on any day.”
Despite a short, 50-gevecht, amateur career, Wright was a Chicago Golden Gloves winner as an amateur. He was able to drop Beibut Shumenov in May of this year, challenging for the WBA world championship.
“The biggest thing I learned in that fight is to relax in the ring. When you’re relaxed, you are more aware in there and can pace yourself a lot better.”
Wright’s trainer, Rick Wilson, says the decision to gain 25 lbs. gives the fighter, who he says can still get down to cruiserweight’s 200-lb limit, more career options moving forward.
“Junior is like a Holyfield-type of fighter who is a cruiserweight in his early 20s and then grows into a full-fledged heavyweight near his 30s. People like small, agile heavyweights better than the lumbering monsters hugging each other all fight. They make for more exciting fights.”
Wilson says because of Wright’s relative lack of experience, the world hasn’t seen the best of him yet.
“How many fighters have had two world title fights by their 18th pro fight (the fight against Chakhkiev was for the IBO World Cruiserweight Championship) after having just 50 amateur gevechten?” he asked. “Plus Junior was knocking everybody out, so he had very few rounds in the bank and went in on short notice. The best of Junior Wright is still to be seen. He’s a very special talent.”
In separate eight-rounders will be a pair of recognizable contenders, Detroit fan favorite Lanardo “Pain Server” Tyner (30-10-2, 19 KO) and welterweight KO artist Bakhtiyar “Bakha Bullet” Yeyubov (11-0, 10 KO) from Houston, Texas, via Aktjubinsk, Kazakhstan will face opponents in separate bouts.
In other scheduled eight-rounders will be transplanted cruiserweight Alexey Zubov (13-1, 8 KO), from Magnitogorsk, Rusland, now living in Detroit and Detroit’s all-action bantamweight James Gordon Smith (11-0, 6 KO).
In six-round bouts will be resurgent Detroit welterweight “Bliksem” Larry Ventus (7-11-1, 3 KO); and undefeated Toledo super middleweight prospect DeAndre Ware (8-0, 6 KO).

“Ik had mijn laatste twee gevechten in Detroit en het wordt mijn nieuwe bokshuis,” hij ging verder. “Ik weet dat de stad aan het herbouwen is omdat ik er heel vaak bezoek, het is leuker. Er komen nieuwe gebouwen bij. Detroit heeft een geweldige positieve energie en het is de thuisbasis van veel geweldige vechters en de wereldberoemde Kronk Gym. Ik krijg hier veel respect van de fans. Ze kennen boksen en houden absoluut van een goed gevecht. Ze weten dat ik kom om te vechten en mijn hart en ziel op het spel zet. Extreem sterk en krachtig voor een jager van zijn formaat, Gelashvili was voorbij 120 amateur gevechten winnen 110 terwijl hij vijfvoudig Georgisch nationaal kampioen werd. Toch houdt hij vol dat hij hard traint om Ventus het hoofd te bieden, van wie bekend is dat hij een paar verrassingen uit zijn ervaren trukendoos haalt.
“Ik weet dat Larry Ventus een goede vechter is. Hij heeft een slechte staat van dienst, maar hij heeft tegen veel topvechters gevochten en in zijn laatste gevecht heb ik gehoord dat hij een zeer hecht gevecht had met Dorin Spivey. Ik weet dat hij hier al heel lang voor traint en hij komt uit Detroit, dus hij heeft het voordeel van zijn woonplaats. Ik heb hard getraind en ik ben er klaar voor.”
Gleashvili zegt dat veel van zijn in New York gevestigde fans de tocht maken om hem te zien deze zaterdag in Motown en dat hij tot nu toe nog steeds erg blij is met de zoektocht naar roem en fortuin in het buitenland.
“Ik werk al iets meer dan een jaar bij Salita Promotions, ze houden me erg bezig en helpen me met de overgang naar de VS en het professionele boksen. Three of Detroit’s brightest prospects, all bantamweights, will appear in separate bouts on Salita Promotions’ laatste “Detroit Brawl” evenement op Zaterdag, November 12, at the Masonic Temple in Downtown Detroit.
Een “thrill a minute” type slugger with a heavy punch and a giant heart, undefeated 26-year-old James Gordon Smith (10-0, 6 KO) is never in a bad fight. Before turning pro, Smith won numerous national amateur tournaments and has been talked about in Detroit boxing circles for a long time as a potential future champion.

Smith has already electrified a Detroit Brawl audience, winning a unanimous six-round decision over Mexico’s tough Pablo Cupul last May. True to his fan-friendly form, Smith’s victory over Cupul proved to be a “Fight of the Year” kandidaat.
The power-punching Detroiter will be looking to take a step up to world contender status soon and will be hoping to showcase his talents one more time for his hometown fans.
“James Gordon Smith is one of the most exciting fighters from Detroit right now,” said Kronk Gym’s Javan “Suiker” Heuvel, one of Detroit’s best-known and most respected trainers. “It’s always a rumble when he fights and that’s because he is like the fighters of the good old days. He’s always looking to get a knockout and his when you see him fight you will see what I am talking about!”
Also on showcase that night will be 21-year-old bantamweight Jarico “Koning van de Grote Meren” O'Quinn (3-0, 2 KO) van Detroit, who was one of most sought-after amateur prospects in the country before turning professional last year.
With blazing-fast hands and effortless combination punching, O’Quinn has begun building a reputation as “one to watch,” among young prospects in the sport. He will already be having his third fight under the Salita Promotions banner after signing last July.
O’Quinn started boxing at age 14 and went on to rack up 130 wins against 18 losses as an amateur, winning countless national tournaments including the USA Nationals as the number-one-ranked bantamweight in the country. He also travelled extensively with Team USA to fight internationally in places like Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Ukraine.
Rounding out the trio is exciting 22-year-old fan favorite Zach Shamoun, van Royal Oak, Michigan.
Shamoun, who started boxing at age nine, was also an amateur standout. In zijn 160 amateur gevechten, he won the Junior Golden Gloves in 2008 and went on to take 14 state and nine regional titles, while losing just nine fights.
A thinking man’s slugger, the quick-fisted Shamoun can stay very relaxed and in control under fire. He has excellent ring generalship and likes to stay two steps ahead of his opponents.

26-year-old bantamweight James Gordon Smith (10-0, 6 KO) of Detroit was last seen at a previous Detroit Brawl, op Mei 14 van dit jaar, going to electrifying war against Mexico’s tough Pablo Cupul. Smith won a unanimous six-round decision and the hearts of the fans with his thrilling back-and-forth victory.
21-year-old bantamweight Jarico O’Quinn (3-0, 2 KO) of Detroit was last in the ring on Augustus 6 in Temecula, Californië, winning a unanimous four-round decision over local product Johnathan Quiroz on CBS Sports Network.
29-year-old super welterweight Serdar Hudayberdiyev (3-0, 2 KO) van Brooklyn, New York via Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan, was last seen on Juli 16of this year at yet another Detroit Brawl, winning a four-round unanimous decision over formerly undefeated Steven Andrade.
28-year-old super middleweight Dorell Van Horn Jr. (9-1, 6 KO) of Detroit will be looking to rebound from suffering his first career loss in August of this year. Fighting on the undercard of a Showtime-televised event, Van Horn dropped an action-packed four-round unanimous decision to New York veteran Henry Beckford at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, New York.
29-year-old cruiserweight Alexey Zubov (12-1, 7 KO) van Brooklyn, New York via Magnitogorsk, Rusland, last fought in August was well. Zubov won a unanimous six-round decision over Eric George at the same Showtime show at Rhino’s Stadium.
