Total, Com va el teu entrenament a Las Vegas i amb qui t'has enfrontat??

 

 

“Hem estat entrenant a Fernando Vargas’ Gimnàs, el gimnàs Feroz Fight Factory. Hem estat lluitant amb Jose Benavidez Jr. i Diego Magdaleno, i uns quants habitants més. Res és realment diferent amb aquest campament en comparació amb altres. Estic 100 per cent compromesos a entrenar per a aquesta lluita.”

 

Quins són els avantatges d'entrenar a Las Vegas?

“He estat a Las Vegas els últims dos anys i mig. Aquest lloc m'ha canviat la vida. Vaig sortir aquí i vaig començar a entrenar amb Ismael Salas, que ha entrenat molts dels millors boxejadors cubans. Hi ha un bon sparring aquí fora, i també hi ha muntanyes. M'encanta córrer pel mont Charleston. Aquest és només un lloc perfecte per entrenar un lluitador.”

 

Com et prepares per enfrontar-te a un zurt com César Barrionuevo??

“Estem lluitant amb esquerrans i intentem reflectir exactament el que creiem que veurem. Els lluitadors argentins sempre vénen a lluitar i estan ben preparats. Sempre van a la guerra. Per sort també m'agrada anar a la guerra. Així que crec que tenim bons estils que donaran una gran lluita als aficionats.”

 

Què més saps del teu oponent?

“He vist algunes imatges i ja està. No es tracta realment del que fa o aporta, es tracta de mantenir-me centrat en el que faig millor. No em prenc gaire temps lliure, així que estic sempre al gimnàs entrenant. Vaig baixar a Miami fa unes setmanes i vaig entrenar al gimnàs de Barrionuevo i vaig conèixer alguns nois amb qui treballa., però mai ens vam creuar.”

 

Tornaràs a lluitar a SHOWTIME per segona vegada. Això et dóna un avantatge??

“Tothom que sap boxa sap que sóc el lluitador més experimentat. Aquesta és una de les primeres vegades que lluita fora de l'Argentina. Sé que hi és molt important, però mai ha vist un escenari com aquest, amb totes les llums brillants. Estaré preparat per al millor lluitador argentí que es presenti aquella nit.”

 

Quina és la teva predicció de la lluita Garcia-Porter??

“Crec que són dos grans lluitadors i qui estigui més preparat aquella nit guanyarà la lluita. Perquè això és un eliminador de WBC, Sé que hi ha la possibilitat de lluitar contra un d'ells si guanyo la meva lluita. M'encantaria lluitar contra qualsevol d'ells.”

 

CESAR BARRIONUEVO

Com va el teu camp d'entrenament a Miami i amb qui t'has enfrontat??

“Tècnicament, tot és fort i amb els meus entrenadors Carlos [Morgan] i Pablo [Martínez] ens sentim bé on som i què estem fent. Jo vull ser 100 per cent llest al setembre 8 per la lluita de la meva vida. Sento que estaré i estic molt agraït pel suport del meu equip i de tots els aquí a Caicedo Sports’ Gimnàs. He estat lluitant amb un munt de prospectes locals, nois joves amb rècords invictes i nois que estan al mateix vaixell que jo busco ser campió del món.”

 

Com us esteu preparant per a un lluitador agressiu com Ugas??

“Estic formulant el meu pla i intensificant la meva formació, així que ho estic 100 cent llest. Estic centrant-me en el meu cardio i augmentant la meva força. Per això sóc aquí als EUA., perquè el nivell de competició és millor que a casa. Sento que tot el que estic fent és un pas endavant. Estic fent el millor camp d'entrenament de la meva vida. No em preocupo pels meus oponents’ estil.”

 

Què saps del teu oponent?

“Hem vist alguna pel·lícula, però això no sempre t'ajuda. Es faran ajustos de fracció de segon si cal. Sóc un lluitador al final del dia, i estarà preparat per a tot el que em posi davant. No l'he conegut mai, però sé que va venir i va fer exercici al meu gimnàs. no el conec, però potser després de la baralla podem ser amics. Ara mateix és matar o ser matat.”

 

Què penses de lluitar al gran escenari del Barclays Center??

“Sé que tinc una gran base de seguidors a Argentina i no puc esperar per tornar-hi i celebrar una victòria amb ells.. Estic molt orgullós de tots els passats campions del món que han vingut del meu país, però no vinc a Brooklyn com a turista. Vinc per lluitar i aconseguir la victòria d'una manera espectacular i per tornar a posar l'Argentina al mapa en l'esport de la boxa.. L'objectiu és lluir bé i guanyar i deixar una bona impressió lluitant a SHOWTIME i per a tots els que ho veuen.”

Quina és la teva predicció de la lluita Garcia-Porter??

“És una lluita dura. Potser 50-50, però m'inclino cap a Danny Garcia. Crec que la seva experiència com a campió del món ho demostrarà.”

 

És difícil no mirar cap endavant a una possible baralla futura amb un d'aquests nois?

“No hi he pensat ni un segon. Estic centrat en la meva propera tasca, i això és Ugas. Vinc a fer el que cal fer per aconseguir la victòria. I aconseguiré aquesta victòria amb sang, suor i llàgrimes. Em centraré en Danny Garcia o Shawn Porter quan arribi el moment.”

“Si busquem boxejar o no serà una decisió del temps del joc. Haurem de llegir la lluita. Crec que començarem a intentar barrejar-ho i després agafar-lo a partir d'aquí. De mi depèn veure els ajustos i fer-los. El que sigui necessari per guanyar aquesta lluita, Estic preparat per fer-ho.

 

 

 

“Crec que els cops de contra del Danny em fan servir. Sóc un punxador combinat. Hi ha més d'un que ve. Si només ve un, no saps d'on ve. Crec que cuidarà la força de Danny, però no m'ho prenc a la lleugera. Sé que és un lluitador fort i això és el que espero al ring.

 

 

 

“No crec que es mantingui cara a cara amb mi, però crec que aquí és on creu que pot guanyar la lluita. La qüestió és colpejar i no ser colpejat, així que intentarem mantenir-lo el més net possible. De vegades es fa dur allà dins, però si no pots suportar la calor, sortir de la cuina.

 

 

 

“Hi havia una vegada, probablement, pensava que podria vèncer a Danny amb activitat. Però sé que he de ser agut, precisa i aterra la majoria dels meus cops de puny. Vull tirar 60 una volta i terra 40 per cent.

 

 

 

“Vaig a sortir allà i seré agressiu, ser agut, sigueu ràpid i deixeu que la resta s'ocupi de si mateixa. Aquesta és una lluita enorme que fa temps que esperava.”

“Qualsevol baralla en la qual estigui en Shawn, tindràs acció. Si Shawn va entrar allà i es va relaxar, Dubto que en Danny el vagi darrere. Simplement no crec que Danny vagi endavant així.

 

 

 

“Hem de continuar fent el que hem fet per arribar fins aquí. Però no anem a perseguir-lo com ell espera.

 

 

 

“En Danny està intentant animar-se com si fos una mena d'artista d'un sol cop. Però sóc un artista d'un sol cop si és contra algú que ja no pot boxejar o que està augmentant de pes.. Si pegues en Shawn Porter amb un d'aquests cops, tornarà a colpejar, i amb Shawn, serà més d'un.

QUÈ: SHOWTIME Sports® Emmy-award winning reporter Jim Gray sat down with the fathers of Danny García i Shawn Porter as the two former world champions prepare to meet September 8 for the vacant WBC Welterweight World Championship on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING.

 

Ángel García i Kenny Porter, who both also serve as their sons’ trainers, are asked by Gray how they react when they watch their sons take punishment in the ring.

 

 

 

“As a dad, I have to separate the boxing,” Angel Garcia said. “So when Danny’s in there I’ve got to look at him as a coach. I can’t look at it as a dad.”

 

 

 

Said Kenny Porter: “As a former boxer, I felt what it’s like to be in that ring… So I feel differently when he’s in the ring. I have a more competitive spirit towards winning than maybe someone who’s kid is in there and they’re looking at whether the kid is getting injured. I’m looking at it like, let’s win.”

Barrionuevo will make his U.S. debut on September 8. Kownacki (17-0, 14 KOs) has become a must-see attraction amongst the large contingent of Polish boxing fans in his hometown of Brooklyn and will return to fight at Barclays Center for the fifth time on September 8. The 29-year-old has steadily climbed up the rankings, having most recently knocked out then once-beaten heavyweight Iago Kiladze in Brooklyn in January. Prior to that win, the undefeated heavyweight scored a dominant stoppage of Artur Szpilka last July on Long Island in a matchup of top Polish heavyweights.

 

 

 

“It’s exciting to be back in the ring on SHOWTIME to showcase my skills,” va dir Kownacki. “It will be another step to reach my goal of becoming the first Polish heavyweight champion. I am training hard in preparation to fight Charles Martin. It will be an amazing night in Barclays Center. I’m hoping Barclays Center will be covered in white and red.”

 

 

 

Nascut a San. Louis, Martín (25-1-1, 23 KOs) captured the IBF Heavyweight World Championship in January 2016 via a third round TKO against Vyacheslav Glazkov at Barclays Center on SHOWTIME. LAS VEGAS (Febrer. 17, 2018) – Former two-division world champion Danny Garcia returned with a vengeance, knocking out Brandon Rios in a WBC Welterweight Title Eliminator in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Dissabte on SHOWTIME from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Returning for the first time since dropping a close split-decision to Keith Thurman in a welterweight world championship unification fight in March of 2017, Garcia reminded fans of his position amongst boxing’s elite at 147 pounds with an early candidate for 2018 Knockout de l'Any.
García (34-1, 20 KOs) did his best work in the center of the ring, where he was able to box at a distance and fend off Rios’ furious pace. Rius, who returned in 2017 from a brief retirement, was most effective against the ropes where he gave Garcia trouble with his constant pressure and his favorite weapon – a wide overhand right.
In the ninth round with the fight where Garcia wanted it – in the center of the ring – the Philadelphia native landed a huge counter right to the chin that sent Rios flat on his back. Rios beat the count, but was clearly wobbly on his feet, forcing referee Kenny Bayless to halt the contest at 2:25 of the ninth.
“I felt the ring rust a little bit in the beginning,” va dir García, who recorded the 20th knockout of his career. “He’s a good inside fighter and he was giving me some good uppercuts. The 21-year-old Benavidez and Gavril had fought to a close split-decision in one of 2017’s best fights that saw Benavidez drop to the canvas in the final minute of the 12º i ronda final. The Phoenix native had no trouble in the immediate rematch, utilizing a stiff jab and a steady diet of combo shots to win a near-shutout over the game Gavril.
Benavidez (20-0, 17 KOs) wore down Gavril with an intelligent body attack, pounding the midsection to open up power shots and jabs to the head. Benavidez had his best round in the fourth, connecting on a huge right uppercut that nearly floored Gavril – who appeared to be saved by the ropes – and then pounced with a series of damaging combo shots.
Benavidez appeared to hurt his right hand in the second half of the fight and stepped off the gas in the 10th, 11th and 12th. But Benavidez, who connected on 41 per cent dels seus tirs de l'energia, still landed the harder shots and utilized a stiff left jab to keep Gavril largely at bay.

In the opening bout of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, Yordenis Ugas scored the biggest win of his career, knocking out Ray Robinson in the seventh round of an IBF Welterweight Eliminator.
Ugas (21-3, 10 KOs) now holds the IBF’s No. 2 position to undefeated champion Errol Spence Jr.
Ugas, a former amateur standout who is now 6-0 since moving up to the 147-pound class, set the tone with a knockdown in the closing minute of the opening round. Robinson (24-3, 12 KOs) survived and was later deducted a point for hitting after the bell as the fourth round came to a close. The illegal punch floored an unexpected Ugas, who rebounded and continued to dominate the subsequent rounds.
In the opening minute of the seventh, the 31-year-old Ugas landed a massive right that floored Robinson, who beat the count but was clearly hurt. Ugas unleashed an onslaught with a series of combos, forcing referee Robert Byrd to step in to halt the contest at 1:05 with Robinson defenseless against the ropes.
Ugas landed 51 percent of his power shots and was comfortably ahead on all three judges at the time of the stoppage.
“I felt like I was the stronger fighter by far and he didn’t hurt me,” va dir l'Ugas. “He lost a point for hitting me after the bell sounded, and knocked me down, but even that didn’t hurt me. He was very awkward and his style threw off my timing.
“Luckily I was able to land body shots that I knew were hurting him. I was able to dictate the pace and we never in trouble.
“I want Errol Spence next. Everyone wants Errol.”

“I’m going to put Gavril into retirement after this fight. Vaig a noquejar. This is going to be the fight of the night so you guys don’t want to miss it. He’s not going to want to box again after I get done with him.
“He dropped me but I wasn’t hurt at any point of that fight. I got back up and smiled. I did not feel his power at all.
“It wasn’t a tough decision to give him a rematch because it was a great fight. I just want to give the fans the fights they want to see. They said the first one was a war, let’s make this one a war too.
“I’m not offended by Gavril’s talk because he’s a good fighter. This is just more hype for the fight and more motivation for me to go in there and make it a war.

DANNY GARCIA
“I’m just hungry for this fight. At the end of the day I have the passion for boxing, and I love the competition. That’s what motivates me and that’s what has motivated me to get back in there and get back on top. It all starts en dissabte nit.

But now I want to get back to the top and I know what it takes to get there.
“I don’t care what the critics say because at the end of the day that’s what they are, just critics. It’s all good. I can tell you right now I’m in shape. Estic en el pes ja.

“The preparation we had for this camp was amazing. Three months in training camp, we made a lot of changes for this fight and we’re ready to go in there and take care of business.
“Winning the title changed my confidence but it changed my work too. Now I know everybody is gunning for my title and I don’t want to let it go. All the work and sacrifice it took for me to get this – I’m not going to let it go.

“I feel I could have done better in the first fight. Having everybody tell me Gavril should have won and him talking a lot of smack, it’s the motivation and drive that I needed to train the way I did in this camp.
“The sickness during the first fight took a lot out of me but my mentality is that I’m a warrior and I’m always going to push through it no matter what. Aquesta vegada, we didn’t have any injuries or sickness so I can’t wait to put on a show en dissabte.

“I’m thinking it will be a knockout around Round 5. It’s going to be a combination of the body and chin. It’s not really looking for the knockout, it’s just setting it up. I’m not going in just throwing haymakers, but I’ll set it up and if it comes, it will come in spectacular fashion.”
Ronald Gavril
“I trained a little bit different this time. I had way more time than the first fight to prepare. Last time was four weeks, this time I had a full 10 setmanalment. I have done a lot of rounds of sparring and a lot of work related to this fight.
“I learn after every fight. From the first fight against Benavidez, I learned even more because it was a tough, tight fight.
“His people tried to make him a superstar before he fought me. I don’t know what people said after the first fight, but they should wait until after the rematch. I’m the stronger fighter.
“The difference in this fight is going to be who boxes smarter. I feel I’m the smarter fighter because if I need to box, I box; if I need to put pressure, I put pressure. I can adapt.
“I think this is going to be the fight of the year. It’s going to be special. The fans should all come see this fight because it’s going to be amazing with two warriors.
