NOVA YORK (Març 28, 2016)- A three-fight series to crown a unified divisional champion will begin on Dissabte, Abril 30, when WBC 168-pound champion Badou Jack defends his title against former longtime titlist Lucian Bute, and IBF Champion James DeGale risks his belt against mandated challenger Rogelio Medina en una SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING doubleheader live onTEMPS DE LA FUNCIÓ (10 p.m. I/7 p.m. PT) des DC Armory a Washington D.C.
The winners will meet in a super middleweight world-title unification fight later this year.
Gat (20-1-1, 12 KOs) will make his second title defense after a breakthrough 2015 campaign in which he won the WBC belt from Anthony Dirrell and successfully defended against George Groves. The southpaw Bute (32-3, 25 KOs), a former IBF champion with nine defenses between 2007 i 2012, revived his career last November with a gutsy and inspired performance against DeGale.
“I’ve been training really hard for this fight and I’m excited to get in the ring,” va dir Jack. “I can’t wait to defend my title once again on Abril 30. The fans can expect to see an explosive and skillful performance from me come fight night. Degale (22-1, 14 KOs) will make his second title defense after an impressive 2015 in which he defeated Andre Dirrell to win the vacant IBF belt and topped Bute in a Fight of the Year candidate. The hard-hitting Medina (35-6, 29 KOs), the IBF’s mandatory challenger, has knocked out three consecutive opponents.
“I am delighted to be defending my world title on another great show in the United States,” va dir DeGale. “I won my belt in style in Boston and I’m looking forward to moving down the East Coast to the great city of Washington, D.C. Badou Jack “El Esbudellador”, of Las Vegas by way of Stockholm, Suècia, captured the WBC 168-pound crown with a 12-round majority decision over previously unbeaten defending champion Anthony Dirrelllast Abril 24. A former amateur standout who represented Gambia in the 2008 Jocs Olímpics, Jack retained his belt against former world title challenger George Groves last Set. 12 on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s final fight. Gat, who fights under the Mayweather Promotions banner, was an underdog against both Dirrell and Groves. El 6-peus-1, 32-year-old has won four in a row since a shocking first-round knockout loss to Derek Edwards in February 2014.
Bute, de Mont-real, Canada by way of Romania, has been a super middleweight mainstay for the last decade. He has competed in 12 title fights since 2007, scoring seven knockouts in nine consecutive defenses of the IBF belt he won in 2007 in his adopted hometown of Montreal. During his title reign, the 36-year-old defeated the likes of Glen Johnson, Librado Andrade and Jean-Paul Mendy, but he lost the belt to Carl Froch in 2012 and a string of injuries kept him largely inactive over the next three years. Bute returned from a 19-month absence in August 2015 under new trainer Howard Grant, knocking out Andrea Di Luisa to set up the title shot against DeGale for the crown he once held. Bute stalked the switch-hitting DeGale with a relentless attack, turning in his most impressive performance in years in a close decision loss.
James “Gruixuda” Degale, de Londres, Anglaterra, won the vacant IBF belt in his U.S. debut last May by dropping Andre Dirrell twice on his way to a unanimous decision. Jamie McDonnell guanya una decisió propera

HIDALGO, TEXAS (Maig 9, 2015) – Omar “Panterita” Figueroa (25-0-1, 18 KOs) es va mantenir invicte mentre va fer un espectacle emocionant davant d'una multitud estridente de la ciutat natal i va obtenir una decisió unànime sobre Ricky Burns (37-5-1, 11 KOs) a Premier Boxing Champions a CBS en directe des de State Farm Arena a Hidalgo, Texas.

 

Figueroa va ser el lluitador més agut que va donar cops més forts i va poder dictar el ritme de la lluita.. Burns se li va restar un punt tant a la vuitena com 11º rondes per l'àrbitre per una retenció excessiva. “Panterita” guanyat pels comptes de 116-110 dues vegades i 117-109.

 

A la primera baralla televisiva de la tarda, Estrella britànica Jamie McDonnell (25-2-1, 12 KOs) es va guanyar una decisió estreta però unànime sobre la invicte anterior Tomoki “El Mexicanito” Kameda (31-1, 19 KOs). McDonnell va ser enderrocat per primera vegada en la seva carrera per una forta mà dreta de Kameda a la tercera ronda, però es va recuperar ràpidament per guanyar per una dotzena de punts. 114-113 en els tres jutges’ targetes.

“Lluitant una baralla com aquesta, es necessita molt per fer fins i tot quatre rondes, molt menys 12. Amb un lluitador així, recolzar-se en tu i utilitzar el seu pes sobre tu és difícil. Estic content d'haver estat en forma i de no haver decepcionat els meus fans.

 

“Sóc un lluitador molt ofensiu, així que la retenció em va frenar. Vaig intentar fer el que vaig poder i, per sort, els jutges ho van veure.

 

“Les meves mans estan una mica adolorides, però realment vaig aguantar els meus cops, sobretot perquè té un d'aquells guàrdies europeus on manté les mans amunt i els colzes estan al descobert.. Vaig haver d'anar amb compte anant al cos perquè així em feia mal les mans la majoria de vegades, de colpejar els colzes. Em vaig sentir ridículament fort davant el nou pes, però no pensava que les meves mans aguastessin, així que em vaig retenir i intentava guanyar la lluita per punts i si pogués fer-li mal, intentaria aturar-lo..

 

“Em donava un cop de puny darrere del cap, so I felt like I had to do the same. If you want to play like that, I can play that game.

 

“Al final de la lluita, he came with a good body shot that hurt me a bit. That’s why I slowed down at the end. I have to give it to Ricky. És un lluitador dur.

 

“It’s time to rest up. I’ve been training since the beginning of the year and I deserve a little rest.”

 

RICKY BURNS

 

“We knew it was going to be a tough fight, but I didn’t agree with the deductions for holding. I thought he was holding as much as me and that’s why I had to tie him up.

 

“We moved up in weight for this one but still had some trouble making weight, but I didn’t want to jeopardize my chance to fight in America.

 

“I think it was his size that gave me problems more than anything. I don’t know what weight he was in that ring, but it was a lot bigger than me.

 

“The plan was to try to stick to boxing for the first half of the fight, but once the size really took over I had to stand and exchange more than I would have liked. I couldn’t get him off of me. No tinc excuses, as I said the best man will win.

 

“I always leave everything in the ring and that’s all I can do. I hope everyone who watched enjoyed the fight.

 

“We’ve enjoyed the experience of being in the U.S., obviously the decision didn’t go our way which puts a damper on it, but overall everyone here in Texas has been great. I want to say a big thank you to everybody. I hope to back again.”

 

JAMIE MCDONNELL

 

“I felt in control all the way through. It was a great performance. I know I should have just boxed but I wanted to fight.

 

“I didn’t think I was going to get the decision being abroad, but it’s more than spectacular to come out of here victorious. He’s a great, campió invicte.

 

“His speed surprised me on the knockdown. I knew he was going to be fast, but I didn’t expect it like that. I didn’t see the shot and next thing I knew I was on the floor.

 

“Hit and move, hit and move, that was the strategy. I remember being in there and thinking, ‘Home, this isn’t easy.’ I knew the crowd was going to go his way but it was a great experience.

 

“It’s been a fantastic time being here in America. I’d like to see some familiar faces but it’s a new experience. I was up against it but I knew I could pull it off. Sabia en el fons que podia fer-ho.

“Sens dubte, sento més pressió, però el bon tipus de pressió. He prosperat amb la pressió tota la meva vida. Vaig ser càntir durant molt de temps. Jo era un més proper. Així que he estat en situacions en què les bases estan carregades i hem baixat tantes carreres i he de mantenir el joc a prop. Això és el que visc.

 

“No he vist cap pel·lícula de Ricky Burns. No l'he mirat gens. Però pel que he sentit, és un lluitador dur en gran forma, doncs si anem 12 rondes serà una bona 12 rondes. Vaig a sortir i donar-ho tot i guanyar de la manera més impressionant possible.

 

“No va ser difícil renunciar al meu títol. No lluito pels títols. No m'importen els títols. Crec que només són coses estètiques. Prefereixo agradar als aficionats amb una bona lluita. No m'importa si guanyo un títol al final del dia, però si els aficionats estan contents, Estic content.

 

“Seré molt més fort amb aquest nou pes. No sé què esperar. Estic emocionat de pujar al ring i descobrir-ho.”

 

RICKY BURNS

 

“Quan estàs en dures baralles, això és el que treu el millor de tu. Tinc moltes ganes de pujar al ring i fer una bona actuació i guanyar alguns seguidors aquí.

 

“És una lluita molt dura i ho sabíem abans de prendre-la. A Figueroa li agrada avançar i ser agressiu, però aquest pot ser el seu inconvenient perquè fa molts cops. Estem preparats per a qualsevol cosa que passi la nit de la baralla i el millor home guanyarà.

 

“Hi ha gent que pensa que he vingut aquí només per ser un oponent, però no és així. Vaig tenir un any dolent però tot ha quedat enrere. Tornaré a les meves maneres de guanyar.

 

“Això és tot el que he volgut aconseguir a la boxa. Serà una lluita dura, però quan arribi la baralla faré només quatre setmanes que estic a Texas.

 

“Tracto la boxa com la meva feina, a l'hora d'entrenar i lluitar sempre ho dono 100 per cent i deixar-ho tot al ring i esperem que els aficionats ho vegin. L'Omar mai no està en una baralla avorrida i jo no sóc dels que s'enrediguin.

 

“Hem tractat aquesta lluita exactament igual que qualsevol altra. Encara que estem a la seva ciutat natal, tan bon punt soni aquesta primera campana és quan comptarà. Només som ell i jo en aquest anell.”

 

Tomoki Kameda

 

“És un somni fet realitat lluitar en una cadena com CBS. Milions de persones ara em coneixeran, conèixer el meu estil. La boxa està canviant i formar-ne part és un gran honor per a mi.

“No va ser fàcil renunciar al meu títol mundial — Vaig ser el primer japonès que va tenir aquest títol. Mai és fàcil renunciar a alguna cosa per la qual has treballat tant. Però respecto la decisió de l'òrgan sancionador, van dir que havia de renunciar-hi i així ho vaig fer. Ara, Vaig a buscar un altre títol, i després potser la unificació.

“McDonnell és un bon boxejador. Sap boxejar i sap entrar al ring. La majoria dels combatents britànics ho fan, moure's molt. No és un estil fàcil d'afrontar, però el meu equip i jo tenim una gran estratègia i anem a guanyar, guanyarem per nocaut.

“M'encanta Mèxic. M'hi vaig mudar quan estava 15 amb la meva família. Hi vaig fer tota la meva carrera amateur i tota la meva carrera professional. Estic agraït a Mèxic i a tots els mexicans per donar-me tant.

“El meu equip i els nois del gimnàs van començar a dir-me "El Mexicanito".’ perquè accepto la cultura mexicana com a pròpia. M'encanta el menjar, la gent i per descomptat la llengua espanyola. Al principi lluito amb això, però ara crec que ho he dominat.”

 

JAMIE MCDONNELL

HIDALGO, TEXAS (Maig 7, 2015) – A full day of exciting undercard fights come to State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texasen dissabte tarda, Maig 9 as local fan favorites and top prospects will look to make their marks on the boxing world. After a long career having fought mostly in Mexico, el jugador de 26 anys d'edat, Medina burst onto the scene with a thrilling knockout over previously unbeaten J’Leon Love in Aug. 2014. The fighter out of Hermosillo, sonora, Mexico added two more victories since then and looks for a third when he takes on the 35-year-old Molinero out of Arboletes, Colòmbia.

 

 

An undefeated fighter making his 2015 debut, the 22-year-old Flors out of Morella, Mexico will take on an experienced fighter in the 28-year-old Meraz out of Agua Prieta, sonora, Mèxic. A pair of swing bouts feature 23-year-old Houston native Karl battling the 32-year-old Sala out of Jackson, Michigan and the 20-year-old Alvarez from McAllen, Texas who faces 29-year-old Espinoza de Sant Antoni.
