READING, Pa. – Říjen, 27, 2019 – Top super welterweight contender Erickson Lubin continued his resurgence with a dominant 10-round unanimous decision victory over Nathaniel Gallimore Saturday night on SHOWTIME from Santander Arena in Reading, Pa.

Lubin (22-1, 16 KO) won his fourth straight fight since a knockout loss to Jermell Charlo in a title challenge in 2017. The 24-year-old landed 42 percent of his power shots en route to the wide decision, skóroval 99-91 všemi třemi rozhodčími.

The southpaw relied on a suburb left hook, attacking from a variety of angles against the durable Gallimore (21-4-1, 17 KO) as he improved to 4-0 since beginning to train with southpaw specialist Kevin Cunningham.

“I had a tremendous training camp thanks to Kevin Cunningham,” řekl Lubin. “At first we had Terrell Gausha but he fell out due to his injury. I appreciate Gallimore for stepping up to the plate. He gave me a tough fight and I appreciate it. We gave the fans what they wanted. I measured him. I just timed him and I was able to land my power shots.

“Kevin is a real strict trainer and he’s a southpaw specialist. We’re just improving our game every camp. I definitely want Jermell Charlo again. My goal is to get revenge.”

Cunningham was pleased with his pupil, who was pushed past the fifth round for the first time in more than three years.
“He’s always been a hell of a fighter and I just wanted to fine tune and refine the skill set,” řekl Cunningham. “He can do everything that you can teach. He’s the total package. He’s got power, he’s got speed, he’s got footwork. He’s more than a brawler. He’s a skillful fighter with power.

“He’s ready for all the top guys in the division. The guys with belts are what he wants.”

Former lightweight world champion Robert Velikonoce, Jr. was victorious in his debut at super lightweight, winning a unanimous decision over Adrian Granados in an all-action fight scored 97-93, 98-92, 100-90.

Velikonoce (22-1-1 14 KO), who lost his lightweight title in a unification with Mikey Garcia in 2018, was matched for his first fight a super lightweight against one of boxing’s most aggressive, come-forward fighters and the result did not disappoint. Granados charged forward from the opening bell, pressing on the inside against his rangy, 5-foot-11 opponent. In the first half of the fight, Easter pocketed rounds while fighting from a distance, leaning on his speed to win the first four rounds on all three judges’ scorecards. But the fight seemed to change tides at the midway point, with Granados able to force the bout to be contested at close range. Rounds seven through 10 featured tremendous, back-and-forth exchanges and the more active Granados seemed to get the better of the exchanges.

The fighters combined to throw 1,815 combined total punches and 1,379 combined power punches across 12 kola.

“We knew he was going to be a hell of a warrior in there,” Easter said. “That’s what we train for. This was no ordinary opponent and we knew he was going to bring it. I wasn’t surprised because that’s what he does. You’ve seen him fight with the best of the best and he threw down. I knew he was going to throw punches in bunches.

“This was a hell of a test for me at 140 and I felt strong. I’m not calling out anybody specifically, but you know there are champions in this weight class and I’m coming for all the belts. Line ’em up.”

One of boxing’s most reliable action fighters, Granados (20-8-2, 13 KO) threw more punches and connected more and was once again frustrated with a decision that did not go his way.

“My opponent didn’t really want to fight, he just wanted to fight dirty,” Sanchez said. “So all I could do was give him some lateral movement. It’s difficult when someone doesn’t want to engage. We wanted to touch him down, touch him up high. But once he got touched, the guy just tried to tie up.

“There was no problem going 10 kola. I’m in great shape and I’m ready to fight again as soon as possible. I showed my technical superiority tonight. All the heavyweights better watch out.”

Two-time super featherweight world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis was interviewed during Saturday’s telecast as he continues to train for his lightweight debut December 28 on SHOWTIME from State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The explosive Davis, who will fight Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBA Lightweight World Championship, continued to call out the top fighters when he spoke with host Brian Custer.

“I’ve heard all these guys calling me out, I don’t want to sound cocky, but I am the cash cow at this weight class,” Davis said. “Me and Leo Santa Cruz are going to fight in 2020.”

Saturday’s SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION tripleheader will replay on Monday at 10 p.m. ET/PT na Showtime Extreme.

The 32-year-old was unbeaten in his first seven pro fights before losing a narrow majority decision to Herve Bubeaux in a bout for the Belgium heavyweight title in May. He rebounded to defeat Artur Kubiak in July heading into his fight against Sanchez.

Orlando, Florida’s Lubin (21-1, 16 KO) was one of the fastest rising contenders in boxing as he quickly raced to the top of the ladder to challenge Jermell Charlo for the WBC 154-pound championship in 2017. Following a one-punch, first-round stoppage to Charlo, the 24-year-old Lubin has rebounded with three straight stoppage victories of his own to regain his momentum toward a world championship.

V únoru, Lubin became the first boxer to stop former champion Ishe Smith and is coming off a TKO victory over Zaharia Attou in his last fight in June on SHOWTIME.

“It’s unfortunate that Gausha had to pull out because I was really looking forward to that fight,” said Lubin. “Now I’m facing Nathaniel Gallimore, who is a very good fighter whose only losses are to top level guys. The 31-year-old Gallimore (21-3-1, 17 KO) most recently defeated Antonio Todd by decision in August to rebound from close decision losses to unified champion Julian Williams and top-ranked contender Patrick Teixeira in 2018. Born in Kingston, Jamaica and fighting out of Evanston, Illinois, Gallimore put together a seven-fight winning streak before the Williams fight, including knockouts of contenders Justin DeLoach and Jeison Rosario.

“I’m approaching this like any other big fight that was in the works for a long time,” said Gallimore. “I’ve been waiting for this moment in my career for a while. This is a stepping stone that can take me where I want to go. Lubin’s a pretty good boxer-puncher. He was on the rise for a moment and I knew about him coming up. Je to bude velký boj. LAS VEGAS – Duben 27, 2019 – Robert Velikonoce Jr. a Rances Barthelemy se ve svém zápase o uvolněný titul mistra světa v lehké váze WBA utkali v sobotu na SHOWTIME z The Chelsea v The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas..

Náročný boj o skóre byl rozhodnut 115-113 Barthelemy, 115-113 Velikonoce a 114-114. Titul WBA 135 liber zůstává po rozhodnutí o rozdělení neobsazený.

Oba bývalí mistři světa potřebují vyhrát na křižovatce, ani jeden z bojovníků nebyl schopen stisknout spoušť v souboji talentovaných counterpunchers. Vysoký, hubené lehké váhy soutěžily na vnější straně po většinu 12kolového zápasu, a zatímco oba spoléhali na svůj dosah, aby udrželi soupeře na uzdě, nepodařilo se jim zasadit mnoho účinných střel zvenčí.

“Postol je jeden z nejlepších, kterému budu čelit, ale nebojím se. Jsem přesvědčen, že vyhraju. Studoval jsem ho spolu se svým trenérem a máme zavedenou strategii, kterou uvidíte v sobotu.

“Jsem velmi nadšený pro tuto příležitost. Snem každého boxera je bojovat v Las Vegas a jsem šťastný a připraven ukázat Američanům, co ve mně je.

“S výškovou převahou Postolu nemám žádné problémy. jsem na to připraven. Není to poprvé, co stojím proti boxerovi, který je vyšší než já. Mám také velmi dobrý dosah, ale je to moje rychlost, která ho porazí.

“Je těžké předvídat, ale kdyby to záleželo na mně, samozřejmě bych řekl, že Rances vyhraje knockoutem. Z toho, co jsem viděl na tréninkovém táboře, Rances předvede v sobotu večer skvělý výkon. Ví, co má dělat.

“V celém táboře máme skvělé spojení. Stačí se mu podívat do očí a mám pocit, že vím, co mi přinese. Všechna tvrdá práce byla vykonána a on je 100 procent připraven na sobotu večer.”

Jak říkají, „železo ostří železo’ a kvalita sparingu mi ohromně pomohla připravit se na duben 27. Cítím se lépe připravený jak psychicky, tak fyzicky, než jsem byl ve svých posledních zápasech.”


Co si myslíš o Robertu Easterovi Jr. a co o něm víš?

“Viděl jsem různé zápasy Roberta Eastera Jr. a velmi pozorně jsem ho studoval. Je to skvělý boxer, který rád využívá svou výšku a dosah ve svůj prospěch. Je to bývalý mistr světa, který bojoval s kvalitními soupeři. Zaslouží si veškerý můj respekt, ale jsme si velmi jisti, že proti němu zvítězíme.”

Máte pocit, že jste se dokázali odrazit od své první porážky v kariéře??

“Určitě ano, Dokázal jsem jít dál a využít tuto porážku jako lekci ve své kariéře. Říká se, že někdy se více naučíme v porážkách než ve vítězstvích, a tak tomu bylo i v tomto boji.

“Někdy nevidíme jasně, když vyhráváme. Když vyhráváte, přehlížíte špatné návyky nebo malé detaily, které potřebují opravu. Někdy je ani nevidíme. Cítím se omlazený a udělali jsme mnoho důležitých změn, které byly pro mou kariéru nezbytné. Uvidíte v dubnu 27 že z týmu Barthelemy zbylo ještě mnohem víc.”


Co by to znamenalo stát se v dubnu znovu šampionem 27?

“Nepochybujeme o tom, že se v dubnu staneme opět šampionem potřetí 27. To vrátí mé jméno zpět na vrchol sportu s mnoha potenciálními velkými zápasy, které je třeba svést. Bude to pro mě znamenat mnohem víc, protože kubánský box v současnosti prošel těžkou zkouškou a toto vítězství Kubě umožní znovu získat šampiona.”

The 28-year-old Easter (21-1, 14 KO) won the IBF Lightweight Championship in 2016 by edging an exciting split-decision against then-unbeaten and current IBF titleholder Richard Commey. After two successful title defenses in his hometown of Toledo, Ohio, Easter defeated former champion Javier Fortuna by decision in a January 2018 fight in SHOWTIME.

That victory set up a unification with WBC champion Mikey Garcia, in which Easter survived an early knockdown to push Garcia the full 12 rounds before coming up short on the scorecards. At 5-foot-11, Easter has continued to show the combination of size, skill and athleticism that made him a highly regarded prospect following an amateur career that featured a spot as an alternate on the 2012 U.S.. Barthelemy won a 130-pound championship by defeating Argenis Mendez in 2014 and attempted to become the first Cuban three-division champion when he moved up to 140-pounds for his first fight against Relikh, a title eliminator that he won by decision. After dropping the rematch to Relikh in a vacant title fight on SHOWTIME, Barthelemy returned to the ring in December and stopped Robert Frankel.

“I’m looking forward to a great fight against Robert Easter Jr,” Said Barthelemy. “I know I have what it takes to beat him and capture another title and become a three-time world champ. My best performances have come at 135 liber. Both of us are former world champions who are hungry and will give the fans a sensational night of boxing. Originally from Ukraine, but now fighting out of Los Angeles, Postol (30-2, 12 KO) previously earned a 140-pound world title by knocking out Lucas Matthysse in 2015. The 35-year-old dropped the title in a unification showdown with Terence Crawford in 2016 before bouncing back by defeating then unbeaten Jamshidbek Najmiddinov. Last June he dropped a decision to unbeaten contender Josh Taylor and most recently he defeated Siar Ozgul in November.

In the final four rounds Garcia out-landed Easter 95-34 in total punches and ended the fight being the more active fighter throwing 555 punches to Easter’s 507. He connected on nearly 40 percent of his power shots while Easter landed at a 24 procentuální klip.

 

 

 

 

“It’s a great accomplishment being here in L.A.,” Garcia said. “I was in control most of the fight, and I did what I had to do. I knew he was a tough opponent. He’s a tough warrior. Velikonoce, who went into the Garcia locker room after the fight to congratulate his opponent, was gracious in defeat.
