Three-weight World champion Burns and former Lightweight World ruler Crolla both come into the must-win bout on the back of defeats in unification battles, and the British stars have conceded that defeat would make the road back to the elite-level that they have become accustomed to operating at a long one.
Burns created history as Scotland’s first ever three-weight king and the Coatbridge star is confident that a win in Manchester would put him back at the top table and in the running for a 14th World title fight in 2018 to continue his remarkable journey in boxing.
“I look at every fight as a must-win fight,” said Burns. “The incentive that has been put in front of us with the possibility of challenging for the World title again, I need to make sure that I go out and win this which I am confident of doing.”
“This is my first time fighting in Manchester so I am sure it’s going to be a great night for the fans. I’ve got so much respect for Anthony, he’s a brilliant fighter and this is going to be a cracking fight.”

Burns and Crolla clash on a huge night of action in Manchester as Sam Eggington defends his European Welterweight title for the first time against mandatory challenger Mohamed Mimoune and Robbie Barrett also makes a maiden defence against a mandatory predator as he puts his British Lightweight strap on the line against undefeated Lewis Ritson.

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – Im vergangenen Samstag Julius Indongo added the WBA junior welterweight title to his trophy case that already housed the IBF junior welterweight title with a comfortable 12 round unanimous decision over Ricky Burns in Burns’ hometown of Glasgow, Schottland.
The bout was seen live and exclusively LIVE in the United States on AWE – ‘A Wealth of Entertainment.
“We’re ecstatic at the turnout for Samstag Kampf. Julius Indongo was introduced to the American fight fans with an outstanding performance, and he proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in the 140 Pfund-Division. AWE will continue to bring boxing fans in the United States the highest quality fights from around the world,”” said AWE CEO Robert Herring.
Indongo moved his record to 22-0 with the emphatic victory by scores of 120-108, 118-110 und 116-112. Verbrennungen, who is 3-division world champion is now 41-6-1.

Burns turned 34 am Donnerstag and came face-to-face with the Namibian at their pre-fight press conference in Glasgow.

The Rickster welcomes the unbeaten Southpaw to the venue of his moment of history in May when he became Scotland’s first three-weight World champion with an eighth round stoppage win over Michele Di Rocco.

Burns defended his crown for the first time with a dogged display against impressive mandatory challenger Kiryl Relikh in October. Indongo is the third man to test Burns in the Hydro cauldron, and Burns is in no mood to let slip another chance to create a piece of history as he aims to continue his remarkable career at the very top.

“When I first started out you always think about winning belts and being in massive fights, but I never set myself any targets,” said Burns. “I just worked hard and when I got the chances, I took them and it paid off. I’ve had a few bad nights and it took me a while to move down to Essex and get used to training with Tony, but it’s clicked now.

“I got the Di Rocco fight and I jumped at it. People noticed there that I still had something to give, I knew it was still there, but there were people that doubted that.

“I don’t think about what I’ve done so far and I won’t until I hang them up. In my eyes, ein Kampf ist ein Kampf. It’s always great to go into big fights like this one, but the pressure is big enough in World title fights that I keep stuff like legacies and so on away and just focus on what’s in front of me, that’s the way I’ve always been.

Indongo is looking to add Burns’ WBA strap to the IBF and IBO belts he won in spectacular fashion in December when he travelled to Russia in his first fight outside of his homeland of Namibia and delivered a devastating one-punch KO win over champion Eduard Troyanovsky.

That was a third straight win inside the distance for the 34 year old who carries raw power and is a nightmare on paper as a tall, rangy Southpaw.

Indongo feels that his win in Russia has been dismissed as a fluke though, and he is coming to Scotland to prove that he’s the real deal.

“We’re focused and ready,” said Indongo. “I’ve polished the tools and technique for the fight. He’s picked us which is fine with me. It’s not easy to fight someone in their backyard but you need to make sure that you are totally prepared for the task.
“We don’t have any doubts in this team. The aim is to keep winning. I’ve heard what they’ve been saying. They said it was a lucky punch that floored Troyanovsky. It’s always easy to talk. Bring Burns in front of me and we will see who is the best.”

Indongo says he’s always known that he would need to travel to secure major fights having boxed at home for the first 20 bouts in the paid ranks. The Glasgow crowd are sure to give the visitor a hostile reception as he walks to the ring, but he has a warning for both the fans and Burns – that nothing will distract him from his task.

“Fighting away from home has never been a problem,” said Indongo. “I know that we cannot host such a huge event in South Africa so I am always prepared to travel. There’s only Ricky and me in the ring, the fans will have no effect on me.

“The KO will be a bonus but we’re training for hard rounds, I am undefeated and have no doubts that I will stay that way.

“We are not that well recognised in the world of boxing but I warn you – do not underestimate us, because that’s what happened in Moscow.”

Indongo follows in the footsteps of fellow countryman Paulus Moses who challenged Burns for his WBO Lightweight crown in March 2012, and the ‘Blue Machine’ believes that Moses was short-changed by the judges that night, as was Kiryl Relikh, who was edged out on points by Burns in his first defence of the WBA in October.

“I thought Paulus won the fight but maybe he didn’t win because it was in Scotland,” said Indongo. “I don’t think he beat Relikh either, but you cannot look at that, he must not take me lightly or make mistakes.

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – April 5, 2017 – Ricky Burns and Julius Indongo will clash in a bout that will unify the WBA and IBF 140-pound world titles. The match-up takes place on Samstag, April 15th and will be featured live and exclusively on AWE, A Wealth of Entertainment and www.klowdtv.com in den Vereinigten Staaten.

Burns will have the home fan advantage. The bout originates from the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Schottland. The undercard fights begin at 2:30 PM EST / 11:20 AM PT.

Burns of Coatsbridge, Scotland has been a world champion in three weight-classes, and has been competing in world title bouts for seven years.

Burns defended that title 3 times with wins over Kevin Mitchell (33-1) & Jose Gonzalez (22-0) and a draw with Raymundo Beltran (28-6), before dropping his title to Terence Crawford.

Burns became a 3-division champion with an 8th round stoppage over Michele Di Rocco on May 28, 2016. He has made one defense, which came on 7. Oktober with a unanimous decision over Kiryl Relikh.

“When Julius Indongo knocked out Eduard Troyanovsky he was immediately an opponent I was interested in,” says Burns. “Indongo can clearly punch and that’s an impressive way to win a World title, especially in Russia. It was some shot he hit Troyanovsky with.

“It’s a huge fight in the division and the kind of fights I need to be involved in at this stage of my career. There were other names talked about but I wanted the toughest, most dangerous fight out there. Indongo with his two belts was that man.

“He is a big tall, rangy, southpaw but bring it on – I have no fear of anyone and it is only the massive fights for me now.

“Fighting in Glasgow is special for me, the crowd at the SSE Hydro has been electric the last two occasions and I expect it to be no different this time round.”

Indongo of Windhoek, Namibia has a perfect mark of 20-0 mit 11 Knockouts.

Die 34 year-old is an eight-year professional, who was the WBO African Super Lightweight champion as he had wins over Zolani Marali (4-5), Ibrahim Class (12-1) and Ishmael Kuchocha (12-3).

HIDALGO, TEXAS (Mai 9, 2015) – Omar “Panterita” Figueroa (25-0-1, 18 KOs) blieb ungeschlagen, als er vor einem lauten Publikum in seiner Heimatstadt eine aufregende Show hinlegte und eine einstimmige Entscheidung errang Ricky Burns (37-5-1, 11 KOs) auf Premier Boxing Champions auf CBS live aus der State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

 

Figueroa war der schärfere Kämpfer, der härtere Schläge landete und das Tempo des Kampfes bestimmen konnte. “Ich bin ein sehr offensiver Kämpfer, Also hat mich das Halten irgendwie verlangsamt. Ich habe versucht zu tun, was ich konnte und, Gott sei Dank, das haben die richter gesehen.

 

“Meine Hände tun ein bisschen weh, aber ich habe mich wirklich mit meinen Schlägen zurückgehalten, vor allem, weil er eine dieser europäischen Wachen hat, bei denen er seine Hände hoch hält und seine Ellbogen freigelegt sind. Ich musste aufpassen, dass ich zur Leiche ging, denn so verletzte ich mich am häufigsten an den Händen, vom Schlagen der Ellbogen. Ich fühlte mich lächerlich stark bei dem neuen Gewicht, Aber ich dachte nicht, dass meine Hände halten würden, Also hielt ich mich zurück und versuchte, den Kampf nach Punkten zu gewinnen, und wenn ich ihn verletzen könnte, würde ich versuchen, ihn aufzuhalten.

 

“Er hat mir auf den Kopf geschlagen, Also hatte ich das Gefühl, das gleiche tun zu müssen. Wenn du so spielen willst, Ich kann das Spiel spielen.

 

“Am Ende des Kampfes, er kam mit einem guten Körperschuss, der mich ein bisschen verletzt hat. Deshalb habe ich am Ende langsamer gemacht. Ich muss es Ricky geben. Er ist ein harter Kämpfer.

 

“Es ist Zeit zum Ausruhen. Ich trainiere seit Anfang des Jahres und verdiene mir eine kleine Ruhepause.”

 

RICKY BUNS

 

“Wir wussten, dass es ein harter Kampf werden würde, aber ich war mit den Abzügen für das Halten nicht einverstanden. Ich dachte, er hält genauso viel wie ich und deshalb musste ich ihn fesseln.

 

“Wir sind für dieses Gewicht gestiegen, hatten aber immer noch Probleme, Gewicht zu machen, aber ich wollte meine Chance, in Amerika zu kämpfen, nicht aufs Spiel setzen.

 

“Ich glaube, es war seine Größe, die mir vor allem Probleme bereitete. Ich weiß nicht, welches Gewicht er in diesem Ring hatte, aber es war viel größer als ich.

 

“Der Plan war, in der ersten Hälfte des Kampfes beim Boxen zu bleiben, aber als die größe wirklich überhand nahm, musste ich mehr stehen und tauschen, als mir lieb war. Ich konnte ihn nicht von mir kriegen. Ich habe keine Ausreden, wie gesagt der beste mann wird gewinnen.

 

“Ich lasse immer alles im Ring und das ist alles was ich tun kann. Ich hoffe, allen, die zugesehen haben, hat der Kampf gefallen.

 

“Wir haben die Erfahrung, in den USA zu sein, genossen., Offensichtlich ist die Entscheidung nicht in unsere Richtung gelaufen, was ihr einen Dämpfer verpasst, aber insgesamt waren alle hier in Texas großartig. Ich möchte allen ein großes Dankeschön sagen. Ich hoffe, dass ich wieder zurückkomme.”

 

Jamie McDonnell

 

“Ich habe mich die ganze Zeit unter Kontrolle gefühlt. Es war eine tolle Leistung. Ich weiß, ich hätte einfach boxen sollen, aber ich wollte kämpfen.

 

“Ich dachte nicht, dass ich die Entscheidung im Ausland treffen würde, aber es ist mehr als spektakulär hier siegreich rauszukommen. Er ist ein toller, ungeschlagenen Champion.

 

“Seine Geschwindigkeit überraschte mich beim Knockdown. Ich wusste, er würde schnell sein, aber so habe ich es nicht erwartet. Ich habe den Schuss nicht gesehen und als nächstes wusste ich, dass ich auf dem Boden lag.

 

“Schlagen und bewegen, schlagen und bewegen, das war die strategie. Ich erinnere mich, dass ich da drin war und dachte, 'Mann, das ist nicht einfach.’ Ich wusste, dass das Publikum seinen Weg gehen würde, aber es war eine großartige Erfahrung.

 

“Es war eine fantastische Zeit hier in Amerika zu sein. Ich würde gerne ein paar bekannte Gesichter sehen, aber es ist eine neue Erfahrung. Ich war dagegen, aber ich wusste, dass ich es schaffen könnte. Ich wusste tief in meinem Inneren, dass ich es schaffen kann.

 

“Ich glaube, ich werde zunehmen. Ich möchte die großen Kämpfe fangen, bevor sie weg sind.”

 

Tomoki Kameda

 

“Ich glaube, ich gewann den Kampf. Ich habe genug getan, um zu gewinnen. Er hat viel getan, um die letzten Runden zu gewinnen, Aber ich habe mehr über den Kampf getan. Ich stimme der Entscheidung der Jury nicht zu, aber ich respektiere es.

 

“Ich wusste, dass er nach dem Knockdown aufstehen würde, weil er Weltmeister ist. Er ist ein großartiger Kämpfer und ich ziehe meinen Hut vor ihm, Aber ich habe den Kampf gewonnen.

HIDALGO, TEXAS (Mai 7, 2015) – Kampfwoche für Premier Boxing Champions auf CBS Fortsetzung Donnerstag als im Fernsehen übertragene Kämpfer Omar “Panterita” Figueroa, Ricky Burns, Tomoki “Die Mexicanito” Kameda, Jamie McDonnellund Austin “Kein Zweifel” Forelle sprach bei der Abschlusspressekonferenz vor den jeweiligen Kämpfen mit den MedienSamstag, Mai 9 bei State Farm Arena.

Omar Figueroa

 

“Das ist der bisher größte Kampf meiner Karriere. Ich habe meinen Bruder auf der Unterkarte und er ist hier zu Hause. Das ist es. Ich finde es toll für Leute aus dem Valley, hier so eine riesige Karte zu bekommen. Das haben sie seit Vasquez vs . nicht mehr gesehen. Marquez, Also hoffe ich, dass ich dieses Level des Boxens zurück ins Tal bringen kann.

 

“Ich spüre definitiv mehr Druck, aber die gute Art von Druck. Ich habe mein ganzes Leben lang unter Druck gedeihen können. Ich war lange ein Krug. Ich war näher. Ich war also in Situationen, in denen die Basen geladen sind und wir so viele Runs hinter mir haben und ich das Spiel nah halten muss. Dies ist, was ich lebe für.

 

“Ich habe keinen Film von Ricky Burns gesehen. Hab ihn gar nicht gesehen. Aber von dem, was ich gehört habe, ist er ein harter Kämpfer in großartiger Form, also wenn wir gehen 12 Runden wird es gut 12 Runde. Ich werde da rausgehen und alles geben und auf die beeindruckendste Art und Weise gewinnen.

 

“Es war nicht schwer, meinen Titel aufzugeben. Ich kämpfe nicht um Titel. Ich interessiere mich nicht für Titel. Ich denke, das sind nur ästhetische Dinge. Ich würde die Fans lieber mit einem guten Kampf erfreuen. Es ist mir egal, ob ich am Ende des Tages einen Titel gewinne, aber wenn die Fans glücklich sind, Ich bin fröhlich.

 

“Ich werde bei diesem neuen Gewicht viel stärker sein. ich weiß nicht was mich erwartet. Ich freue mich, in den Ring zu steigen und es herauszufinden.”

 

RICKY BUNS

 

“Wenn du in harten Kämpfen bist, das bringt das Beste aus dir heraus of. Ich freue mich darauf, in den Ring zu steigen und eine gute Leistung zu zeigen und hier einige Fans zu gewinnen.

 

“Es ist ein sehr harter Kampf und das wussten wir, bevor wir ihn nahmen. Figueroa tritt gerne nach vorne und ist aggressiv, aber das kann sein Nachteil sein, weil er viele Aufnahmen macht. Wir sind auf alles vorbereitet, was in der Kampfnacht passiert und der beste Mann wird gewinnen.

 

“Manche Leute denken, ich bin nur hergekommen, um ein Gegner zu sein, aber das ist nicht der Fall. Ich hatte ein schlechtes Jahr, aber es liegt alles hinter mir. Ich kehre zu meinen Gewinnwegen zurück.

 

“Das ist alles, was ich im Boxen schon immer erreichen wollte. Es wird ein harter Kampf, aber bis der Kampf kommt, werden es nur noch vier Wochen sein, die ich in Texas bin.

 

“Ich betrachte Boxen als meinen Job, Wenn es um Training und Kampf geht, gebe ich es immer I 100 Prozent und lass alles im Ring und hoffentlich werden die Fans das sehen. Omar ist nie in einem langweiligen Kampf und ich bin keiner, der sich zurückzieht.

 

“Wir haben diesen Kampf genauso behandelt wie jeden anderen. Obwohl wir in seiner Heimatstadt sind, Sobald die erste Glocke ertönt, wird es gezählt. Es sind nur ich und er in diesem Ring.”

 

Tomoki Kameda

 

“Es ist ein Traum, in einem Netzwerk wie CBS zu kämpfen. Millionen werden mich jetzt kennenlernen, lerne meinen Stil kennen. Boxen verändert sich und ein Teil davon zu sein ist für mich eine große Ehre.

“Es war nicht leicht, meinen WM-Titel aufzugeben — Ich war der erste Japaner, der diesen Titel trug. Es ist nie leicht, etwas aufzugeben, für das man so hart gearbeitet hat. Aber ich respektiere die Entscheidung der Sanktionsbehörde, Sie sagten, ich müsste es aufgeben und das habe ich getan. Jetzt, Ich suche einen anderen Titel, und danach vielleicht Vereinigung.

“McDonnell ist ein guter Boxer. Er kann boxen und kennt sich im Ring aus. Das machen die meisten britischen Kämpfer, viel bewegen. Es ist kein einfacher Stil, sich zu stellen, aber mein Team und ich haben eine tolle Strategie und wir werden gewinnen, wir werden durch KO gewinnen.

“ich liebe Mexiko. Ich bin dorthin gezogen, als ich war 15 mit meiner Familie. Ich habe meine gesamte Amateur- und meine gesamte Profikarriere dort gemacht. Ich bin Mexiko und allen Mexikanern dankbar, dass sie mir so viel gegeben haben.

“Mein Team und die Jungs im Fitnessstudio haben angefangen, mich "El Mexicanito" zu nennen’ weil ich die mexikanische Kultur als meine eigene annehme. Ich liebe das Essen, die Menschen und natürlich die spanische Sprache. Ich kämpfe zuerst damit, aber jetzt denke ich, ich habe es gemeistert.”

 

Jamie McDonnell

 

“Ich glaube, Kameda hat ein bisschen Angst und ein bisschen eingeschüchtert von meiner Größe. Ich glaube wirklich, dass ich ihn ausknocken werde. Ich bin zu groß und zu stark.

 

“Ich bin seit ein paar Jahren Weltmeister. Ich bin sehr zuversichtlich für diesen Kampf. Es ist das Beste, was ich je gefühlt habe. Ich freue mich schon sehr darauf.

 

“Kameda ist ein guter Kämpfer und ich erwarte das Allerbeste von ihm. Er erwartet besser das Allerbeste von mir. Das ist lebensverändernd, wer auch immer diesen Kampf gewinnt, wird ein paar Level nach oben befördert.

 

“Ich möchte das bestmögliche Leben für meine Frau und meine kleine Tochter. Dazu muss ich ihn schlagen.

 

“Meine Verluste waren vor sechs Jahren und ich habe damals nicht einmal wirklich an mich geglaubt. Ich habe jede Erfahrung gemacht, die man in dieser Zeit machen kann und ich bringe alles auf den Tisch.

 

“Fans können mit viel Herz rechnen. Ich kann einen Schlag nehmen, Ich kann zuschlagen. Es ist ein interessanter Kampf und es ist eine Chance für mich, auf dieser großartigen Bühne hier in Amerika zu zeigen, worum es mir geht.”

 

AUSTIN FORELLE

 

“Soweit mein Gegner in letzter Minute ausfällt, Enttäuschung ist eine Untertreibung. Aber ich versuche es edel zu halten, Also bleibe ich enttäuscht. Ich bin aber nicht überrascht.

 

“Der Tag, an dem ich hörte, dass er es herausgezogen hat, hat meine Einstellung definitiv geändert, Aber ich musste diesen Fokus finden und erkennen, dass wir noch viel zu tun haben.

 

“Es ist eine Ehre, Teil dieser ganzen PBC auf CBS-Karte zu sein. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass dies das Wiederaufleben des Boxens ist – bring es zurück in die goldenen Tage. Ein Teil davon zu sein, war eines meiner Ziele, als ich Profi wurde. Ich wollte ein Teil des Comebacks des Boxens sein.

 

“Ich versuche einen Gürtel zu bekommen. Ich will meinen WM-Titel zurück. Nachdem ich einen Weltmeistertitel geholt habe, werde ich versuchen, diese Verluste zu rächen. Nachdem ich diese Verluste gerächt habe, möchte ich einen weiteren Titel, damit ich ein unangefochtener Champion werden kann. Sobald das erledigt ist, können wir vielleicht in eine andere Gewichtsklasse aufsteigen.”
