NEW YORK (Maj 10, 2017) – America’s youngest world champion, Gervonta Davis, will make his first world title defense in the opening bout and featherweight world champion Gary Russell Jr. will make his mandatory world title defense in the main event of a split-site, four-fight SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING event on Lördag, Maj 20, leva på SHOWTIME på 6 p.m. OCH/3 p.m. PT*.

Davis will travel to Britain to defend his IBF Junior Lightweight World Championship against undefeated No. 1-ranked contender and local favorite Liam Walsh from Copper Box Arena in London. *Editors’ Note: In order to present all four bouts on one program, the Davis vs. Walsh bout may air on a delay basis of up to 30 minuter.

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING host Brian Custer will anchor the four-fight telecast from Maryland with coverage of Davis vs. Walsh provided by BT Sport. Veteran sportscaster Mauro Ranallo will handle play-by-play at MGM National Harbor with Hall of Famer Al Bernstein and former two-division champion Paulie Malignaggi serving as analysts. Emmy award winning sports reporter Jim Gray and 2017 Hall of Fame inductee Steve Farhood will also serve from ringside. Secondary Audio Programming will be offered in Spanish by Alejandro Luna and former world champ Raúl Marquez.

From London, John Rawling will handle play-by-play for Davis vs. Walsh with former world champion Richie Woodhall providing the color commentary at Copper Box Arena.

The 22-year-old Davis (17-0, 16 Kos) is the youngest reigning world champion from the United States and the second youngest in the world. The Baltimore native and Floyd Mayweather protégé will travel to hostile territory in his first title defense against Walsh (21-0, 14 Kos) in a matchup of undefeated southpaws.

Russell Jr. (27-1, 16 Kos) will look to make a statement in the loaded featherweight division against mandatory challenger Ecandon (25-2, 17 Kos), who owns a stunning knockout of former world champion Jesus Cuellar. Russell vs. Escandon is the sixth featherweight title bout on SHOWTIME since February 2016.

Two world title eliminators will round out the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING quadrupleheader. Top super middleweight contenders Andre Dirrell (25-2, 16 Kos) and José Uzcátegui (26-1, 22 Kos) will face off in an IBF Super Middleweight Eliminator to determine the mandatory challenger for champion James DeGale.

Undefeated Rances Barthelemy (25-0, 13 Kos) will meet Kiryl Relikh (21-1, 19 Kos) in a WBA Super Lightweight Eliminator for unified champ Julius Indongo. Barthelemy, who won titles at 130 och 135, will earn an opportunity to become Cuba’s first three-division champion with a win over the hard-hitting Relikh.

LAS VEGAS (Maj 1, 2017) – Den Premier Boxning Champions series will follow a very busy April with an extremely exciting month of May. The slate of shows will run the weight spectrum from featherweight to super middleweight.
“The Premier Boxing Champions series schedule for May has a slate of shows where several boxers get an opportunity to step up to world title matches,” said Tim Smith, Vice President of Communications for Haymon Sports. “With so much on the line those kinds of challenges typically lead to action-packed, fan-friendly matches.”

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD (April 17, 2017) – An exciting night of action will feature super middleweight contenders Andre Dirrell och Jose Uzcategui in a matchup for the Interim IBF Super Middleweight World Championship plus two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy in a WBA 140-pound world title eliminator against Kiryl Relikh på Lördag, Maj 20 from the recently opened MGM National Harbor in Maryland and live on SHOWTIME.
The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast is headlined by WBC Featherweight World Champion Gary Russell Jr. making the second defense of his title when he faces top challenger Oscar Escandon.
Top 168-pound contenders Dirrell (25-2, 16 Kos) och Uzcategui (26-1, 22 Kos) are set to meet in a 12-round matchup with the winner in line to face IBF champion James DeGale, who is currently recovering from injuries sustained in his draw against Badou Jack in January on SHOWTIME.

Representing his hometown of Flint, Michigan, Dirrell looks to take one step closer to a rematch with DeGale after dropping a narrow decision to the current IBF champion inMaj 2015. The 33-year-old bounced back from the defeat in his last outing by earning a wide unanimous decision over Blake Caparello last April. After a decorated amateur career that saw him win two U.S. Amateur World Championships in addition to an Olympic bronze medal, Dirrell was unbeaten in his first 18 pro fights before losing a split decision to Carl Frosh in 2009.
Född i Venezuela, Uzcategui now fights out of Baja California, Mexiko, where he won two fights last year by knockout. The 26-year-old shot up the rankings in 2015 when he stopped previously unbeaten Julius Jackson in the second round after knocking his opponent down four times. Uzcategui was undefeated in his first 22 pro fights and enters this bout on a four-fight win streak.

The Card Will Be Rescheduled for A Future Date
LAS VEGAS (Februari 28, 2017) – The featherweight championship match between Gary Russell Jr. and Oscar Escandon, planerad till Lördag, Mars 11 at the MGM National Harbor in Maryland, has been postponed after Escandon was injured in training, according to Escandon’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz.
“Oscar suffered an injury to his back in training and he’ll be ready to go in April,” Lewkowicz said. “He’s very sorry for the delay in the fight, but these things happen in boxing. He’s really looking forward to facing Gary Russell, Jr, but he wants to be completely healthy when they do meet.”
Escandon, a 32-year-old Colombian with a record of 25-2 med 17 Kos, is the mandatory challenger for Russell’s featherweight championship. Jermell Charlo defending his 154-pound title against Charles Hatley will be the co-feature on the rescheduled card.
“It’s definitely irritating,” Russell said. “But injuries happen especially when you have somebody pushing their body to the limit for a fight that is potentially life changing. It’s disappointing. It might not work out for him because I have a little more time to get ready.”
“We’re working with the venue and the network to find the earliest date that we can reschedule the show,” säger Tom Brown TGB Promotions. “I feel terrible for the fighters who have been training so hard and now have to wait. Gary is really disappointed, but he understands that injuries are all a part of the sport. But Gary will be ready to go on the rescheduled date.”
A new date for the fight will be announced shortly.

Knockout Over Robinson Castellanos Makes Escandon the Second Sampson Boxing World Champion in Two Weeks
Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing wishes to congratulate his fighter, Oscar Escandon, for his title-winning victory på lördag night in at the DC Armory in Washington, DC.
Escandon (25-2, 17 Kos), från , stepped up a weight class and picked up the interim WBC World Featherweight Championship with a KO 7 over Mexico’s Robinson Castellanos. A powerful uppercut from Escandon ended matters at the 2:59 märke.
Med segern, Escandon became the second Sampson Boxing fighter to win a world championship in the last two weeks. Mexico’s Hugo Ruiz won the WBC World Super Bantamweight title with a KO 1 over Julio Ceja.
“I did this for my country of Colombia,” said Escandon. “I am proud to be fighting for them and it was their support that helped carry me though this tough fight.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. –(Oktober. 28, 2015) -Beltway-området infödda Gary Russell Jr. (26-1, 15 Kos) höll en media träningspass på The Enigma Boxing Club i Capital Heights, MD på tisdag som han förbereder sig för sin championship skjutningen på November 14 på Showtime.

“Idag (Tisdag) var min första dag tillbaka sparring igen. Jag jobbar på min timing, ring generalship and lateral movement. We’re right on course.
“Oscar Escandon är stark och tålig. Han kommer rakt fram. Om sitt hörn var smarta de skulle försöka ta bort min hand hastighet som kommer att vara en stor faktor i kampen. Han måste stänga avståndet, kväva mina slag så hastigheten är inte en faktor.
“Vi arbetar på att bli lika bekväm slåss på utsidan som jag kämpar på insidan.
“Många soldater är endimensionella. Vi försöker göra det diamant lysa på alla sidor.
“Jag vet att jag kommer att segra utan tvekan. Någon som du får i ringen med dessa små, 8-ounce gloves always has a possibility of creating an upset whether he’s a big puncher or not. Det tar bara ett skott. It’s the fighters’ job to take away that opportunity.

“Jag vet att det är ett mästerskap kamp, men vi går in i varje kamp som det är en titel kamp. Vi vet inte en ton om hans motståndare, vi tränar precis som mästare.
“Jag har sex söner, alla av dem är kämpar. De har alla olika egenskaper som människor som översätter annorlunda i vilka de är som människor och i ringen.
“Antonio Russell är 4-0, Han har jobbat riktigt hårt hela sitt liv. Utanför gymmet, han kan fixa något. Antoine, som bara kvalificerad för de olympiska prövningar, är lysande. Jag är väldigt stolt över honom eftersom han precis tagit examen valedictorian av hans klass med den högsta GPA någon i Prince George länet. Då har du Gary, som så hårt arbetande, han är framtiden patriarken i familjen. Han har en gammal anda.
“Jag är stolt över alla mina barn och jag är stolt över att vi är en stark familjeenhet. Vi lärde oss en hel del från Gary förlust till Vasyl Lomatjenko. Vi har ett motto på gymmet som hänger från en banner, det står "Framgång är den ultimata Revenge’ och vi har levt med det sedan förlusten. Vi lärde oss en viktig läxa från denna kamp och har gått vidare.
“Boxning är en flyktig sak, du behöver inte göra det för evigt. Vi gör vår egen sak. Jag är inte orolig för vad andra människor har gjort.
“Som en far, din faderliga instinkt kicks eftersom denna sport, allt kan hända. Du vill inte se din son hamna ont. Så vi tränar för någon omständighet. På grund av detta instinkt, Jag har varit strikt och hårt på mina söner för att försöka att hålla dem säkra.”

“Med hur vi tränar och kampen, vårt försvar sätter upp vårt brott och vår brott sätter upp vårt försvar.
“Mitt jobb är att gå in där och vinna matcher. Jag vet att min motståndare är en lång kille, men jag vet också att han inte kommer att vinna. Han har inte slagstyrka eller ring generaler som jag har.
