NEW YORK (Novembris 15, 2017)) – Slavas Famer Evander “Real Deal” Holyfield and former world welterweight champion Luis Collazo will be special guest speakers at Ring 8’s next monthly meeting,Otrdiena nakts, Novembris 21, at O’Neill’s Restaurant (64-21 53rd Drive) in Maspeth, Ņujorka,
Because a large crowd is expected, only Ring 8 members will be allowed to attend this meeting, but membership may be obtained at the door for those interested in joining Ring 8.
“Evander Holyfield is one of the few living legends in our sport,” Gredzens 8 prezidents Jack Hirsch teica. “Tik, you can imagine how thrilled we are to have him as a guest speaker. We had planned to present Holyfield with the Ring 8 Legends Award at our holiday banquet, but a lucrative business opportunity will prohibit him from being there that afternoon. Vietā, we will present him with that award at O’Neil’s. It says a lot about Evander that he adjusted his schedule to remain in New York to attend our meeting.
“Luis Collazo is a terrific fighter in his own right, having been a former world champion. His career seems to be on an upswing once again and we are anxious to hear about his future plans.”
Holyfield has retired as a boxer with an outstanding 44-10-2 (29 Kos), but this past year he has operated a New York City-based promotional company, Real Deal Boxing. A U.S. Olimpietis, Holyfield is the only unified world cruiserweight champion, as well as a four-time heavyweight champion of the world.
He had a 16-7-2 record in world title fights and won 19 no 30 fights with two draws against past or present world champions, defeating a Who’s Who list of all-time greats such as Dwight Muhammad Qawi, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Riddick Bowe un Mike Tyson (divreiz), Starp vairāk notables.
Born in Brooklyn and now a resident of Queens, Collazo (37-7. 20 Kos) captured the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight world title on April 2, 2005, winning a 12-round split decision over hometown favorite and defending champion Jose Antonio Rivera Worcester, Massachusetts.
The 26-year-old Collazo, who has also defeated world champions Miguel Angel Gonzalez un Victor Ortiz, remains a world title contender having upset 21-1 Sammy Vasquez in his last action by way of a sixth-round knockout last February.

NEW YORK (Februāris 18, 2016) – Boxing promoter Lou DiBella was Ring 8’s monthly guest speaker this past Tuesday night at O’Neill’s Restaurant, kas atrodas pie 64-21 53rd Drive in Maspeth, Ņujorka.
“Lou was fantastic,” Gredzens 8 prezidents Bob Duffy teica. “He was very informative and spoke nearly 30-minutes. He kept everybody in tune to what’s happening in boxing today, discussed how difficult it is to promote a boxing show, and answered everybody’s questions. Our members really enjoyed listening to Lou.”

Jimmy Slattery book author Rick Blake to be Ring 8 Guest Speaker Tuesday night in New York

NEW YORK (Aprīlis. 20, 2015) – Author Rich Blake būs rīt nakts (Otrdiena, Aprīlis 21) special Ring 8 guest speaker at O’Neill’s Restaurant, kas atrodas pie 64-21 53rd Drive in Maspeth, Ņujorka.

Blake is a veteran New York City-based author who has written, Slats: The Legend & Life of Jimmy Slattery, to be released next month by publisher No Frills Buffalo. Blake is best known for covering the financial world for numerous publications, including Institutional Investor, ABCNews.com and Reuters HedgeWorld. He was a co-founder and executive editor of Trader Monthly magazine. The 46-year-old Buffalo native is the author of two non-fiction books, The Day Donny Herbert Woke Up un Talking Proud: Rediscovering the Magical Season of the 1980 Buffalo Bills. He also is co-author of a third work of non-fiction, Diary of a Hedge Fund Manager.

Slattery personified the Golden Era of sports during the boom/bust 1920s and ’30s.

The sleek, handsome, lightning-fast Slattery was a phantom in the ring, soaring across the national stage like a comet before crashing into oblivion. Discarded by the ages, Blake’s book is the incredible true story of the Irish boy-wonder who captivated the boxing world at its peak.

 

At Ring 8’s monthly meeting rīt vakars, Blake will recount his research into Slattery’s early burst to fame in the metropolitan area during the spring of 1924, sharing some highlights of what he uncovered like tying in Queens fight promoter Simon “Si” Flaherty, the Queensboro A.C. in Long Island City and the Queensboro Bowl, which was expanded in the spring of 1924 as part of efforts by Flaherty and Paddy Mullins to land a Jack Dempsey-Harry Wills fight that, diemžēl, never came materialized. Blake will also speak about how the New York City fire department condemned the club’s stadium built at the base of the Queensboro Bridge and how Flaherty managed to get around that.
