NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 14, 2018) – Georgia middleweight Doug “Yamato” Usher and Yoislandy “Cuba” Izquierdo were knockout-winners this past Saturday night in the “Road to M-1: USA” main event and co-feature, respectively, at Global Mall in Nashville, Tennessee.

 

 

 

“Road to M-1: USA” was presented by M-1 Global USA and Angel Fight Promotions and aired live on worldwide pay per view.

 

 

 

“The Rage,” a hybrid ring/cage, made its American debut in Music City.

 

 

 

“What a great first event for M-1 Global USA,” M-1 Global USA CEO Mike Merriman said. “There were so many obstacles to overcome and lessons to be learned, but the show still went well. The fighters worked hard and the staff worked diligently. I couldn’t have asked for more. We are working on our next show and some possible partnerships that should make a lot of fans smile.”

 

 

 

Usher (10-3-0) overcame a relatively slow opening round to knockout his late replacement opponent, David “Redneck” Mundell (9-4-0), with a powerful right-left combination for his sixth consecutive victory, which snapped Mundell’s three-fight win streak.

 

 

 

Izquierdo (12-4-0), fighting out of Charlotte (NC) by way of Cuba, took care of business early, knocking out Damond Pickney (15-11-0), of Hot Springs, Arkansas, less than a minute into the opening round by way of a vicious head-kick.

 

 

 

Virginia bantamweight Tony Gravely (14-5-0) ruined the courageous comeback of previously undefeated Brazilian fighter Bruno Ferreira (8-1-0), who was making a comeback after successfully battling cancer the past three years. Gravely’s aggressive ground-and-pound attack resulted in a quick first-round technical knockout win.

 

 

 

Georgia flyweight Cee Jay “The Autobot” Hamilton (13-6-0) and California heavyweight Cody “The Moose” Goodale won three-round decisions, respectively, against Puerto Rican Abdiel “The Nightmare” Velazquez (8-6-0) and Nkemdirim “Kim” Oti (2-4-0)

 

 

 

Kentucky welterweight Brandon “The Juggernaut” Bell (9-7-0) registered a first-round, ground-and-pound TKO win over Jacob “Tick-Tock” McClintock (9-3-0), of Arizona, while Chicago welterweight P.J. Cajigas used the same method to defeat previously unbeaten Tennessean James Conway (3-1-0) in round two.

 

 

 

On the preliminary card, Chicago bantamweight Chris “The Jungle” Johnson (5-8-0) knocked out Jerrod “The Hillbilly Hammer” Jennings (2-2-0) in the first round. Kentucky lightweight Kegan Agnew (1-0-0) made an impressive pro debut, locking in a rear naked choke to submit hometown favorite Dwayne Herrelle (0-2-0) in the opening round.

“The Rage, used by M-1 Global throughout Europe and Asia, measures 23-feet across and 24” inches from the floor to first rope, and then there are three additional ropes above that. “Road to M-1: USA” is headlined by a middleweight fight between Florida veteran fighter David “Redneck” Mundell (9-3-0), who replaced injured Reggie “The Regulator” Pena, and against Georgia middleweight Doug “Yamato” Usher (9-3-0).  Both fighters are hot, Usher riding a five-fight win streak, dating back 2 ½ years, and Mundell has won his last three fights.

 

 

 

In the co-featured event, veteran Arkansas fighter Dawond Pickney (15-10-0) faces his Cuban opponent, Yoislandy “Cuba” Izquierdo (11-4-0), who is fighting out of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Bruno Ferreira battles back from cancer; Returns after 3 years of inactivity to fight at “Road to M-1: USA”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 16, 2018) – Undefeated Brazilian MMA fighter Bruno Ferreira (8-0-0) returns to action August 11 after successfully battling cancer the past three years.

 

 

The now 30-year-old Ferreira will take on always dangerous Tony Gravely (12-5-0), of Virginia, at “Road to M-1: USA”, presented by M-1 Global USA and Angel Fight Promotions.

 

 

 

“This is very special for me,” Ferreira said. “Thank God. I’ve waited so long for this to happen. People can expect that I will be equal to or better than in my last fight.

 

 

 

“The cancer treatment was very severe. I had three surgeries and several cycles of chemotherapy, which was so strong and bad that every cycle – lasting from Monday to Friday – was four to five hours. It seemed like I was dying. I tried to cheer up my mother and wife before each surgery, but the fear inside me was huge. When I woke up, I thanked God that I had survived.”

Georgia middleweight Doug “Yamato” Usher (9-3-0) faces Reggie “The Regulator” Pena (14-6-0), of Florida, in the main event. The co-featured event matches Russian lightweight Vadim Ogar (6-3-0) of North Carolina, versus Yoislandy “Cuba” Izquierdo(11-4-0).

 

 

 

Diagnosed with testicular cancer three years ago, Ferreira’s rise to the top of the MMA world was derailed with his life-threatening medical issue, which severely jeopardized his combat sports career. Sessions of heavy-duty chemotherapy and three surgeries left Ferreira wondering if he’d survive, never mind fight once again.

 

 

 

Although he continued to train, albeit at a much lower level of intensity, he increased the potency of his training after treatments concluded, but he had lost his training rhythm. A restricted diet enabled Bruno to come back strong and now he’s making his post-cancer return in his American debut.

 

 

 

Ferreira does admit that, at one stage, he never thought he’d fight again. “There were a few moments,’ he explained, “especially when I first discovered it. I had a conversation with my brother about my MMA career being over. He said: ‘Calm down, you’ll just delay it a little while.’ The hope of returning to fight gave me strength, but sometimes did cross my mind that I wouldn’t recover from my time off. Thanks to God I came back and today I am about to realize my greatest dream.

 

 

 

“Fighting on worldwide pay per view will have an even more special taste because all the people who helped me will be able to watch and see that not only and I’m doing well, I’m doing what I like the most….fight!

 

 

 

“I want to grow inside of M-1 Global, in search of a title belt, living to fight. I also want to let others suffering from cancer to know that this disease does not always end in death. They need to have a lot of faith in God and live one day at a time. Wake up, thank you; sleep, thank you. I heard a lot of bad things, but I didn’t give up. Be thankful for your miracle, I believe mine has already happened.”

A crowd favorite in the Music City, Reyes never fails to entertain

 

Born in Guatemala and fighting out of Nashville, Reyes is 8-3-2 with 5 wins by KO. He is well-known for having an action-packed style, throwing more than 100 punches per round. His sensational brawls led to many that have seen him refer to Reyes as the world’s most exciting fighter. In his most recent bout, Reyes outpunched 50-plus fight veteran Armando Vazquez en route to an entertaining ten round decision.

 

 

 

Representing the boxing-crazed island of Puerto Rico, Jesus “Chiquito” Soler has an excellent 9-1 professional ledger and 5 victories by KO. In 2013 Soler scored a career best victory by defeating 6-0 Emanuel Ramirez. Fighting outside of Puerto Rico for the first time against Reyes, Soler is riding a five fight win streak.

 

 

 

The Reyes-Soler UBF championship bout is scheduled for eight rounds.

In the co-featured bout of the evening, talented super middleweight Maidel “Cuba” Sando looks to run his record to 5-0 when he faces Rashad Scott, 3-1 (1 KO) of Ohio in a six round contest. Born in Cuba and raised in Tennessee, Sando’s a talented fighter with good punching power and his team believes he’ll be ready for a significant fight within the next 12 months.

 

 

 

The card has a total of ten fights including local favorites Eduardo Aguilar (3-0), Eric Draper (8-10-1), Dedrick Bell 20-30-1), Demarius “Chuckie” Driver (4-0) and Roger Hilley (4-0) in separate bouts.

Nashville, TN (March 13, 2018) – Light heavyweight knockout king Sena “African Assassin” Agbeko will headline Tri-Star Boxing’s special edition of “Fight at the Fairgrounds” when he battles Lawrence Blakey Saturday, March 17 at the Fairground Sports Arena in Nashville, TN.

Hailing from Ghana and fighting out of Nashville, Agbeko’s impressive professional ledger reads 20-1 with 18 victories by knockout. The 26-year-old has become a local favorite and Saturday marks his third fight in the Music City. He most recently defeated veteran Anthony Bowman via 2ndround stoppage in January.
Standing across the ring will be Pennsylvania’s Lawrence Blakey. A tough luck fighter with a 5-8-2 record and two wins by KO, Blakey’s been victimized by questionable judging. His last four defeats came via split or majority decision and he’s faced six unbeaten foes. In November 2017, Blakey outpointed Joe Paintiff (12-3) via unanimous decision.
The Agbeko-Blakey fight is scheduled for six rounds.
Exciting junior flyweight Edwin Reyes of Nashville by way of Guatemala faces Mexico’s 56 fight veteran Armando “Chiquita” Vazquez in the 10 round co-feature. The pair previously met in 2017, with Reyes capturing an exciting decision victory. This time around Reyes, 7-3-2 (5 KO’s), aims for a knockout to erase any doubts that he’s the superior fighter.
The undercard will see the return of Antioch, TN’s Luis “El Taino” Galarza in a four round contest. Fighting for the first time in nearly two years, Galarza has an excellent 21-4 record with 15 of his victories by knockout. He’s shared the ring with world champions Kell Brook and Austin Trout but his proudest moment in boxing will come Saturday evening when he donates 100% of his fight purse to LifePoint Church.

Nashville, TN (November 7, 2017) – Junior flyweight sensation Edwin Reyes looks for his fourth straight victory when he challenges Santos “Titos” Vasquez in the eight round main event of Tri-Star Boxing’s “Fights at the Fairgrounds” Friday, December 8 at the Fairgrounds Sports Arena in Nashville.
 
Living and fighting out of Nashville by way of Guatemala, Reyes owns a solid 7-2-2 record with five KO’s. On September 15, Reyes outpointed ultra-experienced Armando Vasquez over eight rounds. Locals have fully adopted Reyes, who will be fighting for a sixth time in the Music City.
Representing Reno, NV, the hard-hitting Vasquez is 4-2-1 with three wins by knockout. A win over Reyes would run Vasquez’ unbeaten streak to five fights.
The co-featured bout of the evening pits Nashville-based knockout artist Sena “African Assassin” Agbeko against durable veteran Juan Carlos Rojas of Mexico in a six rounds super middleweight showdown.
Agbeko, who came to Nashville by way of Ghana, owns an outstanding 19-1 professional ledger with 17 KO’s. In his last bout, Agbeko dominated veteran Brad Austin over six rounds. Since his lone setback in 2014, Agbeko’s made tremendous improvements and hopes to become a contender in the near future.
Rojas has shared the ring with many notable fighters including former world champion Cornelius “K9” Bundrage along with contenders Brian Vera, Nathanial Gallimore, Terell Gausha, Domonique Dolton and Caleb Plant among others.
Cruiserweight standout Mike Wilson travels from his native Oregon to face an opponent TBD in a six round contest. A two-time US National Champion as an amateur, Wilson’s 18-0 with 8 KO’s as a pro and is working his way up the ranks.
“I’m glad to have two of our favorite local fighters headlining again,” said Matt Young, founder of Tri-Star Boxing Promotions. “Reyes gives fans their money’s worth every time and Sena’s produced some great knockouts. Fans are also in for a treat with Mike Wilson. He was one of America’s top amateurs and is unbeaten in the pros so a big fight is definitely in his future.”
Light heavyweight Roy King, 10-1-1 (5 KO’s) of Johnson City, TN meets 34 fight veteran Marcus Brooks of Fort Benning, GA in a six round light heavyweight showdown while debuting light heavyweight Maidel Sando squares off with Memphis, TN’s Darius Shorter. Eduardo Aguiar, 1-0, will do battle with Memphis native Adam Young and debuting Demarcus “Chuckie” Driver enters the paid ranks against 10 fight vet Nicholas Rodriguez of Kentucky.

United Fight Alliance Partners with The World Association of Kickboxing USA

Tampa, FL – September 22, 2017 – United Fight Alliance (UFA), a Sports, Media and Entertainment Company comprised of fight promotions across the country and abroad, has joined forces with the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations USA (WAKO).  On Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 7pm CT, the U.S. National Kickboxing K1 team will compete against the Canadian National Kickboxing K1 team at Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN.  The WAKO Team USA Kickboxing: Team USA versus Team Canada event can be streamed here and UFA will broadcast the fights on its television networks reaching over 100 million homes.

Nashville, TN (September 11, 2017) – Junior flyweight Edwin Reyes will face his most experienced foe to date when he battles spoiler Armando “Chiquita” Vazquez in an eight round contest on Friday, September 15 as part of “State Fair Boxing Showdown 2” from the Fairgrounds Sports Arena in Nashville.

Originally from Guatemala, Reyes is 6-2-2 with five of those victories by knockout. His exciting style immediately made him a fan favorite in his hometown of Nashville, where he’s 4-0 with three KO’s.
Living and fighting out of Mexicali, Mexico, Vazquez has a record of 25-18-1 (6 KO’s). A pro for 12 years, Vazquez faced world champions Donnie Nietes and Brian Viloria along with nine undefeated fighters. He conquered three of the then unbeaten foes (5-0 Jose Luis Alvarado, 2-0-1 Pablo Cruz Ortega and 10-0-1 Ricardo Armenta) while also besting 10-1 Juan Carlos Hernandez.
Headlining the card is fellow Nashville transplant Sena “African Assassin” Agbeko versus Johnson City, TN’s Brad Austin in a six rounder for the Tennessee Light Heavyweight championship. Originally from Ghana, Agbeko has an impressive 18-1 ledger and 17 wins by knockout. With close to 40 bouts under his belt, Austin’s fought many top opponents including Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, Yunieski Gonzalez, Ismayl Sillah, Isiah Thomas and Edwin Rodriguez.
In a battle for the Tennessee State Welterweight crown, DeMarcus Rogers and Dedrick Bell will battle it out over six rounds. A native of Chattanooga, Rogers has 11 wins against only three defeats with four wins by KO. The Memphis bred Bell’s a veteran of 48 fights and virtually all of his losses came against world class opposition.
Middleweight rising star Winfred “Hot Boy” Harris Jr. travels from his boxing-crazed hometown of Detroit, MI to meet Tennessee based Cuban Yolexcy Leiva in a six round affair. Harris, 14-0 (8 KO’s), is only 22-years-old and coming off a career best win against highly regarded Lanardo Tyner. Having faced a number of quality fighters, Leiva owns a deceptive record of 5-6 with four knockouts. In 2012, he knocked out previously undefeated Benny Costantino (7-0) and is confident he’ll upset Harris.
Rounding out the card is debuting junior welterweight Eduardo Aguiar fighting Augusta, GA’s William Ware in a four rounder.
“We’ve had a few changes but I’m still very pleased with how this card looks heading into Friday,” said Tri Star Boxing’s Matt Young, who is also a firefighter in nearby Murfreesboro, TN. “Our plan is to keep building Nashville’s interest in local boxing and the best way to do that is showcasing talented fighters from the area.
