“The Homecoming” to be headlined by phenom Marco “El Tiburón” Romero on Sept. 6 in Olathe, Kanzas

Kansas City, Maj. (Juli 29, 2025) - Nineteen-year-old boxing phenom Marco “El Tiburón” Romero (9-0, 8 KOs) will make his hometown debut as a professional on September 6, headlining “The Homecoming” Pro-Am card, presented by Turner Boxing Academy, u hotelu Embassy Suites & Konferencijski centar u Olatheu, Kansas.“The Homecoming” is a fundraiser for the Turner Boxing Academy, owned and operated by boxing legend John Brown, in Kansas City, Kanzas. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Sigurna Kids Johnson County. “This will be a special event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Turner Boxing Academy,” explained Turner, who is Romero’s manager/head trainer. It’s a tough homecoming fight for Marco.”

The primary sponsor of this event is McCarthy Auto Group. “I’m elated to support the Turner Boxing Academy’s 20th anniversary event,” McCarthy Auto Group founder and owner John McCarthy komentarisao. “This is clearly a reputable organization and non-profit. I’ve been impressed with Marco Romero and recognize how pivotal early support can be in shaping a career.”
Romero was a 23-time national amateur champion, highlighted by gold medal performances in the 2024 USA National Championships and National Golden Gloves Tournament, for which he was selected as the “Golden Boy” Award winner as the Most Outstanding Boxer.

He is matched against Javier Dario Aragon (7-1-1, 3 KOs), fighting out of Denver by way of Mexico, in the 8-round main event.

“Fighting at home means so much to me,” Romero said about fighting in Olathe. “It’s giving me that extra motivation and drive to work hard every single day in the gym. I’m ready to give my people from KC and Olathe a show.”
Romero, currently a promotional free agent, has needed only 17 rounds in his 9 profesionalni borbama, registering 8 stoppages, including his last six fights in a row. He is set to compete as a middleweight for the first time after previously fighting at super middleweight, his sixth fight in 2025.

“Going down to middleweight has always been the plan,” Romero noted. “My dream is to be a multi-world champion in different weight classes. I’m excited to see how I feel going to middleweight and see how I feel after this fight. Our plan is to go even lower in weight to super welterweight.

“I’m ready and excited to fight 8-rounds. Our opposition will be tougher – we know that – so we are preparing for a hard fought 8-rounder or finish it earlier Either way we are coming Shark Style!"

Proud of his Mexican American heritage, Marco’s boxing idols are Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Julio Cesar Chavez i, naravno, his namesake, Marco Antonio Barrera. Romero’s ultimate goal is to bring world championship boxing back to Kansas, in order to give back to his community and inspire other young and upcoming boxers from Kansas City, not necessarily just in boxing, but any sport. His ultimate goal is to fill up Arrowhead Stadium one day, either fighting for a world title, or defending his world title belt.

USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Team Concluded World Boxing Championship 2025 With Nine Medals

Yoseline Perez (54kg), Alyssa Mendoza (57kg) Nab Gold Medals

USTI NAD LABEM, Češka (Jun 15, 2025) -Team USA’s Elite High Performance roster picked up nine medals to close out the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem this past Saturday. Yoseline Perez (žena 54 kg) and Alyssa Mendoza (žena 57 kg) led the way for the USA with gold medals in their respective weight classes, marking the first international gold medals of 2025.

Perez got things started this morning for the Red, White and Blue, earning a 4-1 victory over England’s Charley Davidson. The Houston, Texas native has been notable this year with top two finishes in each of her international competitions in 2025. At the World Boxing Challenge 2025, Perez secured two unanimous decision victories in three appearances to close an incredible week in the Czech Republic. This gold medal marks the first of Perez’s Elite international career for USA Boxing.

Mendoza secured her first medal of the calendar year while in Usti Nad Labem, and she did so in a dominant fashion. She earned two unanimous decisions and one 4-1 split decision victory in her three bouts on the week. One of her unanimous decisions came in Saturday’s championship bout over Mongolia’s Michidmaa Erdenedalai, a Paris 2024 Olimpijski.

Three other Team USA boxers also competed on Saturday, Jun 14, each of whom claimed silver medals at the 2025 World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem. Marie Angelis Rosendo (žena 70 kg) and Malachi Georges (muški 90 kg) earned the first international medals of their careers. Kelvin Watts (muški 90+ kg) secured his first silver medal of 2025, marking his second career international medal.

The Stars and Stripes’ nine medals conclude the 2025 World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem, and the team will now travel to Astana, Kazahstan, for the second World Boxing Cup of 2025. Team USA will be represented by 12 bokseri, six male and six female, at the World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025. The event will take place from June 30 to July 7.

USA Boxing is led by head coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and assisted by National Resident Coach Timothy Nolan (Rochester, N.Y.), Nicole Burleson (Bethany, Oklahoma), and Eric Zimmerman (Aleksandrija, Virdžinija).

Four Boxers Advance to Gold Medal Matches on Day Three of World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem

Four Team USA Boxers Close Friday With Bronze Medals

USTI NAD LABEM, Češka (Jun 13, 2025) -Team USA tied a bow on day three of the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025 with four boxers earning bronze medals and four more athletes advancing to the gold medal rounds. Yoseline Perez (žena 54 kg), Alyssa Mendoza (žena 57 kg), Malachi Georges (muški 90 kg) and Kelvin Watts (muški 90+ kg) stamped won on Friday. Looking ahead to Saturday’s finals action, Team USA will see five boxers contesting for gold medals at the World Boxing Challenge.

Rene Camacho (muški 65 kg), Robby Gonzales (muški 80 kg), Jajaira Gonzalez (žena 60 kg) and Morelle McCane (žena 65 kg) concluded their respective weeks with bronze medals on Friday. McCane’s latest bronze marks her second internationally this year, following her outing at the World Boxing Cup: Brazil 2025. Camacho finished his impressive week with his first Elite international medal after two wins in three appearances. Gonzalez secured her medal in her first international competition of 2025, while Gonzales finished the week with a 1-1 record for his first podium placement of the year.

Mendoza nabbed a 4-1 statement victory over Brazil’s Jucielen Romeo, avenging her loss to the Brazilian at the Paris 2024 Olimpijske igre. In addition to her latest victory, the Caldwell, Ajdaho, native also defeated Hungary’s Vladislava Kukhta on Thursday. Following Saturday’s performance, Mendoza has guaranteed herself at least a silver medal. She will now take on Mongolia’s Michidmaa Erdenedalai on Saturday in bout four.

"Osećam se sjajno,” Mendoza stated. “It was definitely a really tough bout, someone that I’ve shared the ring with before [koji je] always a tough competitor but we were able to pull off the victory today. I’m feeling good and we’re going into the silver and gold match tomorrow.”

In his two bouts, Georges has consistently dominated from the opening bell and enforced his powerful game on his foes. He will take on Brazil’s Isaias Filho in bout 18.

“I feel good,” said Georges. “I’m making it deep in this tournament. I’m here for the gold. Sutra, I’ve got a guy, revanš, he thinks he’s better than me, but he just caught me at a time when I wasn’t where I need to be mentally. But I’m going to show him tomorrow. We’re on to the next one, getting that gold.”

Watts opened his tournament on Friday against Mexico’s Alejandro Cruz and imposed his size and power from the beginning of the bout. The super heavyweight has been hard at work this year and is guaranteed at least a silver medal at the World Boxing Challenge. Watts is focused on closing his week strong against Italy’s Diego Lenzi, a Paris 2024 Olimpijski, in bout 19.

In addition to the four Team USA winners from Friday, Marie-Angelis Rosendo will make her tournament debut on Saturday in the women’s 70-kg weight class against Brazil’s Barbara dos Santos in bout seven. Rosendo is making her Elite international debut for the USA and is intent on showing out on the world’s stage.

Team USA Sends Seven Boxers to the Medal Rounds Thursday at World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025

USTI NAD LABEM, Češka (Jun 12, 2025) -Team USA dominated day two of the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025, securing seven wins and seven medals on Thursday. Two Team USA competitors secured their first international medals, while four key veterans secured their first international wins of 2025 during Thursday’s action.

Rene Camacho (muški 65 kg) and Malachi Georges were standouts during Thursday’s competition. Both boxers earned unanimous decisions in the quarterfinals, securing their spots in the medal round and their first international medals along the way. Camacho secured his second victory in the event after taking down Brazil’s Carlos Patrique Souza. The Houston, Teksas, native will now look to secure a berth in the gold medal round but will need to defeat Japan’s Shion Nishiyama to do so. Georges’ impressive win over Hungary’s Levente Kiss marked his first international victory, setting up a bout against Moldova’s Andrei Zaplitnii on Friday.

As for the Stars and Stripes’ veterans, Yoseline Perez (žena 54 kg) earned Team USA’s first win of the day, a 5-0 unanimous decision over Mexico’s Ariadna Jeanette Gil. Camacho, Gonzalez each earn 3-2 victories on tournament’s opening day
USTI NAD LABEM, Češka (Jun 11, 2025) - Jajaira Gonzalez (Women’s 60 kg) and Rene Camacho (Men’s 65 kg) each captured 3-2 wins in their tournament debuts Wednesday at the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem 2025.

The pair were the lone Team USA athletes in competition on day one of the tournament, and following their victories, they now advance to the quarterfinal rounds of their respective brackets.

Gonzalez (Glendora, Kalifornija) closed out her 2025 international debut in style with a 3-2 victory over Croatia’s Sara Beram. Following the victory, Gonzalez will take on Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli in the quarterfinals of the women’s 60kg division. A second win at the tournament for the Glendora, Kalifornija, native will guarantee her a medal at the event; međutim, she remains persistent in capturing the gold medal in her 2025 international debut tournament.

“First time fighting international since the Games,” said Gonzalez after her victory. “I felt a little rusty, but of course, it’s the first day. Back at it again tomorrow, and it’s going to be better tomorrow.”

Camacho (Houston, Teksas) entered the ring with confidence for his Team USA international debut. After listening to the opening bell and stepping out to throw the first punch of the bout, Camacho closed the door on any questions about whether or not he was ready for the international stage. Camacho shined under the lights and ultimately secured a 3-2 win over Hungary’s Milan Petriman.

“Feeling good, feeling good. I got the dub,” said Camacho of his win over Hungary on the opening day of the tournament. “We’re taking it all the way to the gold. We’re not going for anything less. Pobjeda, pobjeda, win and win again!"

Thursday’s competition will feature nine boxers from the United States, beginning with Orlando Zamora (Turlock, Kalif. | 55kg) in Ring B, bout five, against Brazil’s Michael Douglas Trindade, a Paris 2024 Olimpijski.

Thomas Covington (Detroit, mene. | 60kg) will make his international debut in Ring B, bout eight, against Brazil’s Luiz Gabriel Oliveira, another Paris 2024 Olimpijski, who fell to the USA’s Jahmal Harvey last summer in Paris.

Camacho will return to action for his quarterfinal appearance in the 65kg division against Brazil’s Carlos Patrique Souza in Ring B, kraj 13.

Team USA Learns Its Path To Gold For U19 World Championships

PUEBLO, Krilo. (Oktobar 26, 2024) — Team USA will have twelve boxers competing at the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships. These twelve boxers learned their paths to gold, including their first-round opponents during Friday tournament draw.

The 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships boxing tournament has 20 weight divisions, 10 men’s and 10 žena. Competition in Pueblo, Krilo. will begin on Saturday, Oktobar 26 before concluding on Saturday, Novembar 2, at the Pueblo Convention Center.

Getting it all started for Team USA is Joselyn Olayo-Munoz (La Cruces, N.M.) i Shamiracle Hardaway (Lagrange, GA.). Olayo-Munoz will box Chanchal Chaudary out of India in the 48 kg weight class tomorrow afternoon around 5:30 I. Hardaway will match up with Penelope Grochau from Germany in the 60 kg weight class.

Hardaway was on the Youth High-Performance Team last year and earned bronze at the 2023 International Invitational in Germany. If both boxers win their opening bouts, they will advance to the medal round.

Nedjelja, Oktobar 27, Team USA will see their first male boxer in Emmanuel Chance (East Orange, N.J.) Chance is boxing in the 55 kg weight class and received a bye and will get the winner of Juan Jin from South Korea and Kelvy da Trindade from Brazil. Chance won silver at the 2023 Youth International Invitational in Germany.

Also competing Sunday is Laila Zakirova (Staten Island, N.Y.). Zakirova is boxing in the 51 kg weight class and is boxing Xian Baguhin out of the Philippines.

Team USA will see six boxers make their 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships debuts.

Lorenzo Patricio (Waianae, Havaji) will represent Team USA in the 50 kg weight class and received a first-round bye and will box the winner of Seiya Nakayam out of Japan and Beau Piggott out of Australia.

Violet Lopez (Milwaukee, Wis.) also, with a first-round bye and will box Caitlyn Wise out of England in the 54 kg weight class.

U 70 kg weight class Malachi Ross (Grandview, Mo.) earned a bye and is going up against the winner of Festim Nimani from Germany and Sumit Sumit from India.

For Team USA in the 75 kg weight class, Joseph Awinongya (Jouliet, Ilinois) will go up against Connor Anerson from Australia.

Elijah Lugo (Marietta, GA.) will represent the USA in the 80 kg weight class and will go head-to-head with Cristian Sarsilli out of Italy.

In the heavyweight class of 90 kg, Rishon Sims (Harrisburg, Pa.) will go up against Eris Andi Lushtaku out of Germany. Sims was on the Youth High-Performance Team last year and won gold at the 2023 International Invitational in Germany.

Mesiah Nimo (Dallas, Teksas) is the lone boxer going on Tuesday, Oktobar 29, and he will box in the 65-kg weight class and was given a bye and will box the victor of Simon Stojka from Czech Republic and Assylkhan Kosherbay from Kazakhstan.

Nevaeh Williams received a bye and will go head-to-head with the winner of Aaliyah Hoppema from the Netherlands or Renee Doole out of New Zealand. Due to the bye Williams is already in the medal round and will receive at least a bronze medal.

Ticket pricing for the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships begins at $10 for a single-day pass or $50 for an all-week pass. Fans can also purchase tickets exclusively for Saturday’s finals at the price of $25.

USA Boxing will be led by National Development coach Chad Wigle (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Assisting Wigle will be three assistant coaches in Danilo Garcia (Oakland, Kalifornija), Edward Fonteneaux (Fayetteville, N.c.), and Blanca Gutierrez (Pacifica, Kalifornija).

PROVIDENCE (Maj 28, 2024) – Policajka Providens Kyana “Special Kay” Williams, a 2024 Šampion u Zlatnim rukavicama Nove Engleske, osvojio bronzanu medalju u velter kategoriji (146-kafilerija) divizije na nedavnom Nacionalnom turniru šampiona u Zlatnim rukavicama čiji je domaćin bio grad Detroit.

Nacionalni turnir šampiona u zlatnim rukavicama predstavlja ko je ko u amaterskom boksu u Sjedinjenim Državama. Gotovo svaki veliki SAD. bokser od 1928 se takmičio na ovom prestižnom takmičenju.

Williams je jednoglasnom odlukom isključio Zamylu Thurman-Huston u prvom kolu, 5-0, a u polufinalu je dobila prednost, 3-2, od Brianna Gulia, eventualni drugoplasirani.

“Dokazao sam da sam jedan od najboljih u zemlji,” rekla je ekstatična Vilijamsova o svom nastupu. “Zaista sam uzbuđena zbog toga.”

“Došla je niotkuda,“, objasnio je trener Keefe. "Prije tri godine, Trenirao sam borce, a Kyana je bila u teretani. Rekao sam joj to kada je bila spremna da me kontaktira, Ja bih je trenirao. Vilijamsova je morala da savlada nekoliko prepreka da bi stigla do svog mesta u životu, kao iu boksu. Kad ju je Keefe prvi put vidio, Kyana nije bila spremna da se posveti boksu, uglavnom zbog njene nove karijere policajca. Danas, ona je u svojoj osmoj godini kao pripadnik policijske uprave Providens, patrolira severnim krajem grada. Nedavno se našla na listi detektiva, i očekuje da će uskoro biti unapređena.

Jer njen radni raspored je između 6:45 sati. I i 2:45 poslije podne. I, ona je u stanju da žonglira svojim pozivom i boksom. Njen tipičan dan počinje u 5 sati. za trening snage i kondicije, nakon čega slijedi jutarnje trčanje, i ona radi svoje bokserske treninge noću.

Bilo je još par problema. U 2015, ona i njen otac su ubijeni tokom invazije na kuću. Williams je pogođen ispod kuka, njen otac u palcu. Doktori su odlučili da ne vade metak zbog potencijalnog oštećenja živaca i/ili infekcije, vjerujući da bi vježbanje bezbedno udaljilo metak od oštećenja nerava. „Kad bih trčao šest milja,“, napomenula je, “noga bi mi utrnula. Trebao sam izgraditi snagu u lijevoj i, sve dok se bavim jogom i istezanjem, Sada sam dobro.”

Tokom predaha od boksa, Vilijamsova je dodala težinu i kada je bila spremna da se posveti boksu, morala je da smrša i izgubila je 65 funti.

“Kada sam vidio Davea,“, dodao je 27-godišnji Williams, “Znao sam da moram da se vratim u formu pre nego što sam ga kontaktirao da me trenira. To je bila najbolja odluka koju sam ikad donio.”

Još jedno relevantno pitanje je da li će ostati amaterski boks ili će postati profesionalac.

“Srećan sam što sam dio američkog boksa,“, zaključila je, „Ali poslušaću ako se ponudi pravi dogovor. Otvorio sam dosta očiju na The National Golden Gloves.”

Emilio Garcia jedna pobeda od kvalifikacija za takmičenje u Parizu 2024 Olimpijske igre

BANGKOK, Tajland (Maj 29, 2024) — Emilio Garcia (Laredo Texas) je samo jedna pobjeda udaljena od kvalifikacija za Pariz 2024 Olimpijske igre. Garcia je pobijedio Josepha Commeya iz Gane na dominantan način. Garcia je osvojio svaki od glasova sudija u sva tri kruga, uključujući dva 10-8 postignuti rezultati u trećem kolu.

Garsiju sada dijeli samo jedna pobjeda od ostvarenja svog životnog sna i kvalifikacija za Olimpijske igre. Samo jedan bokser mu stoji na putu i to će biti pobjednik Abdallaha Aboua- Arab iz Danske i Oier Ibarreche iz Španije. „Ušli smo u kvalifikacionu rundu i obavezno se prijavite,” izjavio je Garcia nakon pobjede u srijedu. “Osjećam se dobro i jedva čekam petak.”

Robby Gonzales je osigurao drugu pobjedu tima SAD-a na Tajlandu

BANGKOK, Tajland (Maj 25, 2024) — Robby Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nevada) osigurao drugu pobjedu timu SAD-a jednoglasnom odlukom sudaca nad Ahmedom Badranijem iz Maroka drugog dana boksa u Bangkoku, Tajland.

Gonzales je dominirao cijelim mečom jer je pobijedio u prve dvije runde 4-1 a zatim pobijedio u posljednjem kolu 5-0 što je dovelo do jednoglasne pobjede odluke nad bokserom iz Maroka.

The 2021 Osvajač zlatne medalje svetskog šampiona će se u ponedeljak boriti protiv pobednika Weerapon Jongjohoa iz Tajlanda i Vladimira Mirončikova iz Srbije.

“Dobio sam prvi, a imam još četiri,” izjavio je odlučan Robby Gonzales nakon svog debija na 2024 Svjetski kvalifikacijski turnir.

U Bangkoku na završnim olimpijskim bokserskim kvalifikacijama

BANGKOK, Tajland – maj 25, 2024 —  Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Ajdaho) osvojio je prvu pobjedu tima SAD-a pobjedom jednoglasne odluke nad Bolortuulom Tumurkhuyagom iz Mongolije u prvom danu boksa u Bangkoku, Tajland.

Mendoza, koji je osvojio tri medalje u 2023, traži sličan rezultat u Bangkoku. U svom prvom kolu uzela je sudijske bodove 3-2 ali Tumurkhuyag je osvojio drugu rundu, i svi su rezultati bili izjednačeni u trećem i posljednjem krugu.

Rođeni Ajdaho je bio vruć u trećem kolu i uzeo svih pet sudijskih kartona i pobijedio jednoglasnom odlukom. Alyssi su potrebne još tri pobjede da bi se kvalifikovala za Pariz 2024 Olimpijske igre.

“Dobio sam prvi dan i pobijedio na putu. Bila je to teža borba nego što sam očekivao, ali idem dalje i napravit ću te prilagodbe i svakim danom sve bolje,” izjavila je Mendoza nakon svoje prve pobjede u Bangkoku.

Mendoza će sada čekati do maja 30 za njenu sledeću borbu. Ona će se boriti protiv Olge-Pavline Papadatou iz Grčke. Mendoza želi da upiše istoriju na ovom turniru i bude prvi bokser iz Idaha koji se kvalifikuje za Olimpijske igre.
