Ortiz is returning to the ring one week after the World Boxing Council lifted a sanction that it had imposed against the Cuban heavyweight contender in October. Ortiz was pulled from a match against world champion Deontay Wilder scheduled for Nov. 4, after Ortiz failed a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association drug test. Last week the WBC ruled that Ortiz had failed to disclose two medications that he was taking, which triggered his positive test. He was fined $25,000 for failing to make the disclosure, and re-instated into the organization’s rankings.
That cleared the way for Ortiz to return to the ring, and he will waste no time doing so with a match that he hopes will help propel him toward another world title shot in 2018.
“I’m just thankful to be back in the sport I love so much. I can’t wait to get some action and feel that ring and those gloves tight on my wrist,” Ortiz ha dit. “I’d like to thank everyone, especially my loyal fans, who stood by me and supported me through this rough time. I don’t think it would have been possible without you guys. I’d like to thank the WBC and Mr. Sulaiman for being humane enough to take time for their investigation, and my entire team who never lost faith in me. Els 38 anys d'edat, Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs), de Camagüey, Cuba now resides in Miami, Fla., and will be fighting Martz in a 10-round bout in front of his adopted hometown crowd. Porter spoke from his training camp in Las Vegas, while Granados shared his thoughts from camp in Chicago, just over a week before they go toe-to-toe in Brooklyn:
SHAWN PORTER
“Training camp has gone very well. We did most of our work here in Las Vegas and also a little bit at Wild Card in California. We’re at the tail end of camp now. Every day is going to be exciting as we taper off and get ready for Novembre 4.
“I feel very familiar with Granados at this point. One night I watched about three or four of his fights and some interviews and really got to put him in my mind. He’s an aggressive fighter who’s not easily hurt or fazed by what’s going on in the ring. Whether that’s him getting hit or an opponent making him miss.
“This is going to be a very competitive fight. The key to beating him will be my speed. I have to out box him, make him walk into some heavy shots and eventually knock him out.
“I love Las Vegas but I’m always very excited to get the opportunity to fight at Barclays Center. It’s a genuinely fun arena. The energy there is bar-none. I absolutely love being able to entertain crowds out there in Brooklyn.
“We’re going after the WBC title. We’re going to have our sights set on Keith Thurman. I want to get that rematch sometime next year. Outside of that, the only fighter on my mind is Danny Garcia, because he’s a guy who I think I’d make an exciting fight with.”
ADRIAN GRANADOS
“I know I have a fan-friendly style and I make my opponent fight regardless if he bangs or boxes. Bringing exciting fights is what I’m known for to the fans and media. It’s going to be the fight of the night.
“It was a surprise when I got the call for this fight but I jumped right at the opportunity to get in the ring with Shawn Porter. He had a close fight with Keith Thurman and a win over Adrien Broner so a victory over him puts me right back at the top of the division.
“Shawn fought at 165 en els aficionats, much bigger than me and I remember him well, he was also a football player so he was much heavier. Since he turned pro I’ve spent more time watching his fights and studying him, especially these last few weeks knowing that we’re fighting each other at 147.

Knowing it’s been 147 from the start has helped me to better prepare for this fight with Shawn Porter. It will also help me to come in a little heavier on fight night.
“Training and sparring has all been here in Chicago at the Garfield Park Gym. Camp has been terrific, very smooth especially with no weight issues.
“I’m very excited to be fighting at Barclays Center and I know that this is more of a neutral site. I know that Shawn’s the favorite but I feel good about fighting in Brooklyn. I’ve been to Barclays Center twice to watch fights and I’m excited to be fighting theredissabte que ve nit.

“We’ve recognized that Deontay’s opponent has changed, and we’ve restructured ticket prices to encourage as many fans as possible to attend a great night of fights, and the Heavyweight Championship of the world,” va dir Lou Dibella de Dibella Entertainment, the promoter of the card. “Stiverne is thrilled for this second chance and he has nothing to lose. Bermane Stiverne is the only opponent that Deontay hasn’t knocked out among his professional opponents. Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) dethroned defending champion Stiverne in January 2015 via unanimous decision in what was the promising challenger’s toughest fight to date. Molina lost via TKO to Anthony Joshua in his next opportunity on Dec. 10, 2016. Molina bounced back with a majority decision victory against Jamal Woods in his last fight on Set. 2.
Five-division world champion Amanda Serrano (33-1-1, 25 KOs) will be making her fourth appearance at Barclays Center when she defends her super bantamweight world title against Marilyn Hernandez (26-10, 17 KOs). Serrano, who was born in Puerto Rico and lives in Brooklyn, successfully defended her title with a TKO victory over Edina Kiss in her last fight on Juliol 21. Hernandez of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic scored a TKO victory over Maria Hernandez in her last fight on Jan. 10.

MIAMI, Florida (Octubre 5, 2017) – Manager to Luis Ortiz, Jay Jimenez, wants to clarify the current situation with his fighter and the WBC’s decision to move to a new opponent.
“To clarify the Luis Ortiz situation, this is the real and only version of the current process. Sr. Sulaiman i la CMB have NO suspended or removed Luis from their rankings. The WBC’s decision was as follows, they did not sanction the fight based off the fact that they are worried for Luis’s health. The Nov. 4 main event will be the second heavyweight world championship bout to air live on SHOWTIME on back-to-back Saturdays. En Octubre. 28 unified heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua will meet Kubrat Pulev for Joshua’s IBF and WBA world titles in the main event of a fight card from Cardiff, Gal·les.
After Wilder vs. Stiverne I, Stiverne was hospitalized at University Medical Center in Las Vegas for severe dehydration and muscle damage, which he claimed affected his performance in his first title defense. Stiverne bounced back with a win over Derric Rossy and has been advocating for a rematch since.
“Stiverne asked for it, so he’s going to get it,” Wilder va dir. “Whatever happens happens. Ask and you shall receive. I’m relieved to be getting my mandatory out of the way. At least now I won’t have to deal with that down the road.

Porter won the welterweight title in his debut at the arena with a unanimous decision over Devon Alexander on Dec. 7, 2013. He lost a narrow decision to unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman in a 2016 Fight of the Year candidate in Brooklyn, and scored a TKO victory against former welterweight champion Andre Berto in his last fight on Abril 22 in front of the Barclays Center faithful.
The 29-year-old Porter (27-2-1, 17 KOs), who was born in Akron, Ohio and now lives in Las Vegas, remains one of the top welterweights in the division and aims to secure another title shot with a strong performance against Granados.
“To be fighting on an undercard for a Deontay Wilder fight is nothing short of excellent,” va dir Porter. “I’m excited and looking forward to this opportunity. Against Granados I’m getting into the ring with someone who is very established as an amateur and a professional, has great skills and isn’t going to go in there and lay down. Adrian Granados (18-5-2, 12 KOs), de Chicago, is accustomed to tough assignments and is known for delivering exciting toe-to-toe action. The 28-year-old has been in with Felix Diaz, losing a close majority decision in 2014, and then unbeaten Amir Imam, whom he defeated by TKO in 2015 when Imam was the top contender at 140-pounds. Granados went punch for punch with Adrien Broner in his last match, but came up just short, losing a split decision in Broner’s hometown of Cincinnati on Febrer. 18.
“I’m very excited to be fighting one of the best welterweights in the world in Shawn Porter,” said Granados. “With our styles it’s going to be fireworks from the opening bell. I was getting ready for a fight in October but when this opportunity arose I jumped at it. It’s a tremendous card to be fighting on with the whole world watching and I’m looking to
put on a great performance.”
The 28-year-old Sergey Lipinets (12-0, 10 KOs) is a former kickboxer from Russia who has been waiting nearly a year for his opportunity to fight for a world championship. Lipinets has only been the distance twice in his pro career and he earned his title shot with an eighth-round knockout of Lenny Zappavigna in a title eliminator last December. Former world champion Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs) is coming off a two-year absence from the ring. Stiverne, 38, became the first Haitian-born boxer to win the heavyweight title when he defeated Chris Arreola in May of 2014. He lost the title to Wilder by decision on January of 2015 in Las Vegas. In his last fight Stiverne, who moved from Canada and now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, defeated Derric Rossy via decision.
The 32-year-old Dominic Breazeale (18-1, 16 KOs) va ser membre de la 2012 U.S. Olympic boxing team and won his first 17 pro fights before suffering the only loss of his career when he fell short vying for a title against now-unified champion Anthony Joshua in June of 2016. BROOKLYN (Abril 23, 2017) - Shawn Porter va anotar una parada de novena ronda de Andre Berto convertir-se en el desafiador obligatori del CMB al campió unificat de pes welter Keith Thurman a l'esdeveniment principal de SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, Presentat per Premier Boxing Champions, Dissabte nit a SHOWTIME del Barclays Center de Brooklyn.

Amb la victòria contundent, Porter podria guanyar una revancha amb Thurman, que va perdre per poc el juny passat en a 2016 Candidat a la lluita de l'any al Barclays Center, la casa de BROOKLYN BOXA ™.

 

L'enfrontament de pes welter va ser un assumpte dur i caigut des de la campana inicial. Desgast (27-2-1, 17 KOs) va tirar endavant per sufocar l'atac de Berto (31-5, 24 KOs), colpejant el cos d'en Berto a poca distància. Es va obrir una profunda esquerda a l'ull esquerre de Porter per un cop de cap accidental al segon, i un altre se li va obrir per l'ull dret només dues rondes més tard. La constant agressivitat de Porter i el treball corporal efectiu semblaven frustrar en Berto, que va lluitar per mantenir-se fora de les cordes.

 

Al minut inicial de la novena ronda es va desenvolupar una sèrie estranya d'esdeveniments. Amb Berto insegur de peu després d'un altre xoc de caps, Porter va saltar i va colpejar l'antic campió amb un ganxo esquerre per a la seva segona derrota de la lluita. Berto es va aixecar, però Porter va continuar connectant amb Berto contra les cordes i l'àrbitre Mark Nelson va anul·lar el concurs a 1:31. En el moment de la detenció, Porter havia superat a Berto 60-12 durant les dues darreres rondes.

 

"He de netejar els culs del cap,”Va dir Porter. "Hem intentat utilitzar tot l'anell, però de vegades en el fragor de la batalla passen coses. Sóc lluitador i el Sr. Berto també és un lluitador, aquells cops de cap només vam entrar i barallar-nos.

 

"Vaig pensar que lluitava intel·ligent aquesta nit. Vaig pensar que havia triat bé els meus cops. Hi va haver moments en què vaig sufocar els meus trets, però també hi va haver moments en què el vaig sufocar. Té un uppercut perillós, però teníem un gran pla de joc. Aquesta va ser una batalla molt dura per tots dos i tinc la sort d'obtenir la victòria".

 

Després de la baralla, Berto va admetre que l'agressivitat de Porter i els cops de cap accidentals el van frustrar.

 

"He de donar-li crèdit, però és un lluitador dur,", va dir en Berto. “Té grans habilitats, però, al mateix temps, estava intentant ser rude i tractant de manejar-me com pogués. Vaig tenir molts cops de cap, i ell també ho va fer. Shawn és un competidor dur. Vam tenir una bona lluita competitiva fins que els cops de cap van arribar a ser una mica massa per a mi. Però vaig pensar que era una lluita molt bona abans".

 

Després de la baralla, El periodista esportiu de SHOWTIME Jim Gray li va preguntar a Thurman, que va ser de primera línia per a l'eliminatòria, si atorgués a Porter una represa.
