Kansas Athletic Commission overturns ‘No Contest’ to TKO win for undefeated super middleweight prospect Marco Romero

КАНЗАС-СІТІ, Травня. (Червень 4, 2025) -The Kansas Athletic Commission has overturned a “no Contest” ruling to a second-round technical knockout victory for 19-year-old boxing phenom Marco“El Tiburón”Ромеро (7-0, 6 КО).

Ромеро, fighting out of Olathe (Канзас), faced Noah Kidd (10-14-2, 5 КО) травня 24^ї in a scheduled six-round bout outdoors at Energy Plaza in downtown Topeka, Канзас.

Romero completely dominated Kidd, who was reluctant to fight once he felt Marco’s strength, and he was floored in the second round. Kidd then claimed he was unable to continue fighting due to an injury he suffered after falling out of the ring.

Marco’s manager/head trainer John Brown immediately filed a protest requesting the “No Contest” be changed to a well-deserved win for Romero. His challenge noted that the alleged injury was not the result of a foul, Romero was physically able and ready to continue the bout, and circumstances surrounding the fall and stoppage warranted further review.

“I’m glad I got that win on my record,” Romero said. “I put in a lot of hard work in the gym, running and making sacrifices during training camp. I’m happy the Kansas Athletic Commission took its time, watched the fight and made its ruling. The dude only came to pick up a paycheck.”

The Kansas Athletic Commission reviewed the incident and determined that Kidd’s injury from falling out of the ring was accidental, not caused by Romero. The bout was stopped by the ringside physician for medical reasons. Romero did not violate any rules and was capable of continuing the fight.

Based on the Commissions review of circumstances and applicable regulations, the bout did not meet the threshold for a ‘No Contest’ ruling under Kansas law, as the injury did not arise from a rule violation or external interference.

Considering these findings, the Kansas Athletic Commission ruled to overturn the original rules and amended it as an official recording as a Technical Knockout (ВООЗ) victory in favor of Romero.

“Marco came to fight but his opponent wanted to play rugby, trying to run him over and tackle him,” Brown commented. “His opponent hurt himself with these tactics and upon closer examination, the commission did the right thing.”

Romero’s next scheduled fight is June 14 проти. Nafys Anas Garner in a 6-round super middleweight bout in Portland, Мен.

Undefeated Kansas Boxing Phenom Marco “El Tiburón” Romero to continue touring, Topeka debut May 24

“I’m super excited, pumped up to fight only a 45-minute drive from my hometown for my fans,” Romero said. “They don’t need to drive 15 hours like they have or fly cross country. I’m really going to put on a show for my hometown fans. It’ll be nice to hear hometown fans cheering me on. Other than relatives who live in Denver, I made a few new fans in the other places I’ve fought. They’re starting to know who I am, and it’s really cool for people to come up to me saying they follow me.”

The 29-year-old Kidd (10-13-2, 5 КО), fighting out of Jefferson, Міссурі, recently knocked off then-18-0 Deshawn Prather by way of a 6-round unanimous decision.

“This will be Marco’s seventh fight in a year since turning pro because we have Marco on a fast track due to his vast amateur experience and desire to stay active and improve,” Romero’s legendary manager/trainer John Brown explained. “We are hopeful that Noah Kidd can withstand Marco’s shark (Marco’s nickname, ‘El Tiburón’ means ‘The Shark’ in English) bites and give him several rounds of good work.”

A promotional free agent, Romero is matched against Orlando “El Marro” Salgado (3-5, 2 КО) in a four-round bout on a card promoted by Bobby Russo’s Portland Boxing Club in Portland’s Exposition Building.

“I had my first pro fight there and I love Portland people, especially Bobby Russo (who is also President of the National Golden Gloves),” Romero said. “I loved the crowd, everybody was so welcoming, кажучи, ‘Go KC.’ There’s good energy and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Ромеро, who will celebrate his 19^ї birthday on Nov. 19, is a special boxer and young man. The last 12 months have been absolutely amazing whirlwind for him in boxing.

“I would have liked to have fought in the Olympics,” he explained, “because all of the good, young boxers were there, and we (U.S. люди) haven’t won an Olympic Gold Medal since Andre Ward in 2004. But I didn’t turn 18 until two weeks prior to the (Париж) Olympics and my weight class wasn’t contested there.

Romero describes himself as a heavy hitter who throws every punch with bad intentions. He’s very explosive with ring intelligence, capable of punishing his opponent by breaking them down until they either quit because they can’t take any additional punishment or get put to sleep.

In Romero’s corner is a legend in his own right, 77-year-old John Brown, who is Marco’s head trainer and manager, in the same role he played for world heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison (48-3-1, 42 КО) from his amateur days through his first 39 про бої, 1988 для 1993. Brown knows that a champion boxer needs a supportive team in his corner. Romero has that and much more. In addition to Brown, the team is comprised of Marco’s father, Salvador, who encouraged his son to become a boxer at the tender age of seven, and he has remained with Marco through every step of his boxing journey. Brown also brought in one of his former amateur champions, Sergio Flores, who is a very successful businessman. Flores handles the tough physical training aspects required for success in the ring along with mitt work to help keep Marco’s skills razor sharp.

Fans attending this Saturday night’s show in Portland can look back in a few years and say they saw The Future of Boxing, Марко «Ель Тібурон» Ромеро, when he was just an 18-year-old prospect starting out on his mission to greatness.

Olympic Medal Winner Nico Hernandez Dominates Mexico’s Victor Trejo Garcia in UFC Fight Pass Main Event from Mulvane, Канзас

Fighting in the main event of a special two-hour live stream on UFC Fight Pass and in front of an adoring crowd of fans at the Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane, Канзас, hometown favorite and US Olympic bronze medal winner Nico Hernandez (7-0, 4 КО) won his eight-round flyweight showdown by unanimous decision over a determined but out-gunned Victor Trejo Garcia of Mexico City, Мексика (16-10-1, 8 КО).

It was a good “learning” fight for Hernandez, as Garcia never threatened to win, but hung tough against the superior firepower to keep things entertaining throughout. The entertaining Eyubov was the much more active fighter. He worked the body relentlessly while mixing in powerful hooks with both hands upstairs. Rodriguez weathered the relentless storm and came back consistently with hard, accurate counters.

Women’s superstar and two-division world champion Claressa Shields is in Florida with trainer John David Jackson, finishing up preparations for her showdown with Glasgow, Scotland’s Hannahh Rankin on Saturday, Листопад 17, at the Kansas Star Arena and Casino in Mulvane, Канзас.

Both fights, along with former world champion Brandon Rios taking on Canelo’s brother, Ramon Alvarez, in a super welterweight 10-rounder and former two-time world middleweight title challenger Gabriel Rosado going against once-beaten contender Luis Arias, will be broadcast live on DAZN.

23-year-old Shields, a former two-time Olympic Gold Medallist, has reignited interest in women’s boxing and become a ratings favorite for her nationally televised championship exploits. A proud native of Flint, Мічиган, Shields mixes her brash pronouncements of greatness with a genuine and continued effort to inspire female athletes and render aid to members of her home community.

Shields was originally scheduled to face WBC and WBO World Middleweight Champion Christina Hammer on November 17, but the bout was postponed after Hammer withdrew due to medical reasons.

Did the change of opponents from Hammer to Rankin affect your training?

I don’t train for my opponents, I just push to get the best out of me, фізично і психічно. If I’m the best ‘me,’ I don’t have to worry about who the opponent is. The change of opponents didn’t bother me at all; the worst thing about this camp for me was just all the date changes – constantly having to get my mind focused on the pace and timing of training depending on the fight date. You’ve fought at super middleweight 168 and recently at middleweight 160 фунти. How is your training, diet and any other efforts different to make 160?

Training is always hard and I’m constantly learning. I’ve had a completely different diet this camp – a real change and a positive one for me. I’ve teamed up with Perfecting Athletes for my daily meals, and I feel great. I’ve always tried to eat healthy but these folks are pros and are more educated in that field than myself. I have this magic drink that makes my stomach smile – I love it! It’s watermelon mixed with a green vegetable. I’m not going to tell you what vegetable it is, but I’ve been drinking it everyday, and I feel GREAT.

Your viewership numbers have been very strong. Why do you think people are drawn to you?

I believe that people are drawn to how real and honest I am, як в і з кільця. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I’m hard but I have a soft side also. I know that my opponent Rankin is very tough and determined to be a world champion. I like her drive, I like her heart. I know that she has been in the ring as a sparring partner for many champions, one being Christina Hammer. So Rankin has seen some good fighters. But one thing is for sure – she has never seen a fighter like me. And since Hammer couldn’t fight because of her medical condition, in many ways the next best thing is to fight and beat her sparring partner and let Rankin tell Hammer what she’s in for when she returns!

What needs to be done to solve the Flint water crisis?

To solve the flint Water crisis, I think that people should continue to give water and also keep it in the news that there is a city in America where, unbelievably, US citizens don’t have clean water. And hopefully the president or our governor do something to fix all the pipes.

What’s the secret to becoming the best of the best in any sport?

I believe the secret starts with believing in yourself, being dedicated, working hard and just always striving to be better. I feel I’m my biggest critic when I train and box. It’s hard to watch film of my fights because even though I’m doing 97 things right I just can’t stand to see the 3 things I’m doing wrong. I’m a person who strives to pull out my full potential. It takes guts to be great. Nothing will stand in the way of achieving my goals, which includes being the GWOAT and creating equality for all women fighters when it comes to the money, opportunities and coverage the men get.

Women’s Superstar Claressa Shields to Defend IBF and WBA Middleweight Championships and Looks to Add WBC Belt Against Scotland’s Hannah Rankin, Live on DAZN on November 17

These two fights will be broadcast live on DAZN, along with former world champion Brandon Rios taking on Canelo’s brother, Ramon Alvarez, in a super welterweight 10-rounder and former two-time world middleweight title challenger Gabriel Rosado going against once-beaten contender Luis Arias.

Shields was originally scheduled to face WBC and WBO World Middleweight Champion Christina Hammer on November 17, but the bout was postponed after Hammer withdrew due to medical reasons. Hammer has been named a champion in recess during her recovery. The two champions are now projected to do battle in the first quarter of 2019.

“Claressa is a once-in-a-generation athlete that transcends the sport,” said her promoter, Дмитро Саліта. “She will take another step in her goal to achieve the status of GWOAT as she makes the first defense of her middleweight world titles against the skilled and durable Hannah Rankin.”

In her fourth professional fight, she won the IBF and WBC Super Middleweight Championships in August 2017 with a dominant stoppage of Germany’s Nikki Adler. Hernandez was aggressive from the opening bell, pounding Kanalas’ head and body.
