Duitsland, United States and Latvia Play Host to WBO Bouts

De World Boxing Organization (WBO), chaired by Francisco “Paco” Valcárcel, will celebrate five interesting title fights; two of which are for world championships. The bouts will take place this Saturday, Mei 12.

 

 

 

Brooklyn native Saddam “World Kid” Ali (26-1, 14 KO's), coming off the most important victory of his career against legendary Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto, makes the first defense of his WBO junior middleweight world title, when he faces the dangerous Mexican Jaime Munguía (28-0, 24 KO's). The fight will take place at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York. The fight will be televised live on HBO at 10:00 p.m. EN.

 

 

 

“We will have a lot of activity this Saturday from the WBO. You have to pay close attention to the performance of the huge puncher Jaime Munguía, who will face a good attacker like Ali. It’s going to be a classic fight of puncher against a boxer. If Munguía wins, he would be placed on a select list of great Mexican boxers who have been world champions at or before 21 years of age”, said Valcárcel.

 

 

 

In Augsburg, Duitsland, women’s boxing takes the stage when the popular former world champion Nikki Adler (16-1, 9 KO's) of Germany and the world contender Femke Hermans (6-1, 3 KO's) of Belgium, face each other for the vacant WBO world belt of the super middleweight division. The fight will be in the Eisstadion in Augsburg.

 

 

 

“We remain committed and supportive of women’s boxing. Germany is no exception. This great fight has the community looking on because there is a world title at stake and the fight will be liked by the public”, said Valcárcel.

 

In Latvia, three WBO International titles will be in play in 12-round duels in an evening at the Riga Arena. For the vacant International junior middleweight belt, the 13th ranked Ismail Iliev (10-0-1, 3 KO's) of Nazran, Russia will face Konstantin Ponomarev (33-0, 13 KO's) of Miass, Rusland.

 

 

 

Ook, the WBO International Lightweight Champion and 5th ranked Isa Chaniev (12-1, 6 KO's) of Nazran, Rusland, will defend his title against the strong Venezuelan puncher, Ismael Barroso (20-1-2, 19 KO's).

 

 

 

For the vacant middleweight WBO International belt, Artur Akavov (18-2, 12 KO's) from Russia, will face against Argentina’s Gonzalo Coria (12-1, 5 KO's).

SAN DIEGO, CALIF.- Mei 7, 2016 – Anthony Crolla scored a stunning 7th round stoppage over Ismael Barroso to retain his WBA Lightweight title at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, Engeland.
The bout headlined a seven bout telecast on AWE.

Barroso raced out and set a fast pace over the first four rounds. Crolla was biding his time landing some good shots on the the middle of the ring and he started to take over on a fading Barroso towards the end of round five. In ronde zes, Crolla began to hurt Barroso and the Venezuelan challenger started to break down and seemed spent as he walked to his corner. Crolla jumped on Barroso and landed a tremendous flurry of punches that put Barroso on the canvas for the ten count.

It was the second straight stunning knockout for Crolla on AWE–A Wealth of Entertainment as he won his title with a knockout over Darleys Perez in November.

Crolla is now 31-4-3 met 13 knock-outs. Barroso is 19-1-2.

“What a day for boxing on AWE. Nogmaals, AWE had a stellar show that was headlined by a great knockout by Anthony Crolla. We continue to put on exciting world title bouts and we should have some announcements about more great boxing action the coming months,” zei AWE president, Charles Herring.

In the televised co-feature from Hamburg, Duitsland, Kubrat Pulev won the European Heavyweight title and an IBF Elimination Heavyweight bout by winning a 12-round split decision over Dereck Chisora.

Pulev controlled the action with quick combinations and Chisora was never able to get in a groove to land any hard power shots.

Pulev won by scores of 118-110 en 116-112. Somehow a judge saw the fight for Chisora by 115-113.

Pulev is 23-1. Chisora is 25-6.

Shayne Singleton stopped Anwil Anwar in round eight of their ten round welterweight contest.

Singleton looked like he was going to make it a quick and easy night as he dropped Anwar in round one from a left hook. Anwar was able to steady himself and have success over the next handful of rounds by getting in some good right hands. With the fight being on an even level, Singleton landed a big left that sent Anwar down in round eight. Anwar was clearly hurt, and Singleton jumped all over him and the fight was quickly stopped at 1:37 of round right.

Singleton is now 23-1 met acht knockouts. Anwar is 22-6.

Martin Murray tuned up for a Juni 25 showdown with George Groves by stopping an overmatched Cedric Spera in a scheduled 8-round Super Middleweight bout.

Murray dropped Spera with a left to the body in round two and finished him off with hard right that sent Spera down and out at 1:47 van de tweede ronde.

Murray is now 33-3-1 met 16 knock-outs. Spera is 12-5.

Marcus Morrison scored a 2nd round stoppage over Jefferson De Souza in a scheduled 10-round Jr. Middengewicht bout.

Morrison dropped De Souza with a left hook in round one and the bout was stopped in the 2nd.

Morrison is now 11-0. De Souza is now 16-2-2.

Hosea Burton scored a 4th round stoppage over Michal Ludwiczak in a scheduled 6-round light heavyweight bout.

Burton dropped Ludwiczak with a left hook in round three. Burton scored another knockdown from a left hook in round four and the fight was stopped shortly after at2:58.

Burton is now 16-0. Ludwiczak is 13-4.

Tommy Coyle (22-3) won a decision over Reynaldo Mora (7-13-1) in a super lightweight bout via referee score of 59-55.

Barroso and Camp Offer Sincere Respect for ‘Future Former Champion’ Crolla

Heading into his showdown with WBA World Lightweight Champion Anthony Crolla (30-4-3, 12 KO) deze zaterdag night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, UK, WBA #1-rated contender and interim champion Ismael Barroso (19-0-2, 18 KO) and his team wish to offer their sincere respect to the “future former champion.”

SAN DIEGO, CALIF.- Mei 2, 2016 – Deze zaterdag middag an intriguing and important heavyweight contest between former world title challenger’s Kubrat Pulev en Dereck Chisora has been added to the much anticipated telecast that will feature WBA Lightweight champion Anthony Crolla defending his title against hard punching Ismael Barroso that will be shown LIVE ON AWE–Een schat aan Entertainment.
The Pulev – Chisora European Heavyweight title clash will originate from Hamburg, Germany and will precede the Crolla – Barroso bout from Manchester, Engeland.
The broadcast will begin at 2:30 PM ET / 11:30 AM PT.
“We are ecstatic to add this important heavyweight fight to our world title broadcast. The winner of this fight will be at the head of the line to get their second world title opportunity and these are big heavyweights, so we expect an explosive fight,” zei AWE president, Charles Herring.

Pulev, who represented Bulgaria in the 2008 Olympics has had an excellent professional career, which stands at 22-1 with twelve knockouts.

The 34-year old has faced quality competition from the onset of his career. He has quality wins over Gbenga Oluokun (17-2); former world title challenger Matt Skelton (22-4); Dominick Guinn (33-6-1); Derric Rossy (25-3); Maksym Pedyura (13-1-1); Travis Walker (38-6-1); Alexander DiMitrenko (32-1); Alexander Ustinov (27-0); Former two-time world title challenger Tony Thompson (38-3).

Canada’s Tony Luis Disappointed in Scoring of Controversial Loss, but Vows to Keep Fighting for his Goals!

Canadian lightweight Tony “Bliksem” Luis (19-3, 7 KO) says he’s disappointed with the scoring of his controversial unanimous-decision loss last weekend to Derry Mathews (38-9-2, 20 KO) for the interim WBA Lightweight title in Matthews’ hometown of Liverpool, Engeland, but won’t let it deter him from his goals.

Despite taking the fight on three days’ kennisgeving, Luis seemed to outwork Matthews in most rounds and would probably be wearing a championship belt today, had the fight been contested on neutral ground. Helaas, the European judges saw it another way, scoring it 114-112 (Jean Legland, VAN), 115-112 (Dave Parris, UK) en 114-112 (Stefano Carozza, ITA), all for Matthews.

“I can’t say I feel good,” said Luis, home safely in Cornwall, Ontario. “This was my shot and I didn’t get the decision, but I know with my performance, I’ll get another one. Most of the press and the fans, especially in North America, know what’s up and saw the fight for what it really was. Derry did what he had to do to survive but not enough to win. He was cagey and made the fight look more competitive than it was, and that’s what a veteran is supposed to do.”

Despite his disappointment in the scoring, Luis says taking the fight was still a good career choice. “It was absolutely the right decision. You don’t turn down a title shot. But taking it on three days’ kennisgeving, we knew we’d have to shake off the jetlag quickly. My game plan was good, but on such short notice, it wasn’t muscle memory. I had to keep thinking about it in the ring. That’s why I think it took me three rounds to get going. Despite all this, I still won the fight. Now I know I belong among the champions in this division and that’s a good feeling.”

Luis’ promotor, Greg Cohen van Greg Cohen Promoties, says he’s pleased with his fighter’s strong performance and will immediately go to work for the 27-year-old.

“Tony looked sensational op zaterdag,” zei Cohen. “Taking the fight on such short notice, you’d think fatigue would play a role, but he was a machine in there. That shows you how hard he works in the gym. Of course we’re disappointed in the scoring, but looking at the big picture, we now know we have a championship-caliber fighter in Tony. He responded perfectly to the pressure of a world championship fight. I will be petitioning the sanctioning bodies to keep Tony high up in the ratings and give him another title shot very soon. Luis will be returning to action quickly, he is set to fight for a regional title against an opponent TBA on Juni 26 at the Seneca Niagara Event Center in Niagara Falls, New York, and live on CBS Sports Network.

De definitieve undercard is aangekondigd voor Vrijdag (April 17) “Championship Boxing op CBS Sports Network” evenement wordt gehouden in het Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minnesota, en gepresenteerd door Greg Cohen Promotions in samenwerking met Adam Wilcock's Fight Card Promoties en geproduceerd door David Schuster winnaar Take All Productions.

Topping untelevised actie van de nacht zal een van de meest opwindende Amerikaanse zwaargewicht vooruitzichten op de horizon zijn, hard-ponsen Jarrell “Big Baby” Molenaar (11-0-1, 9 KO) uit Brooklyn nemen altijd gevaarlijk veteraan Raymond Ochieng (26-18-3, 21 KO) uit Kenia in een zes-rounder.

Tony Luis to Face Derry Matthews for World Championship this Saturday in England; Ismael Barroso now Fighting Ira Terry on CBS in Hinckley, MN Deze vrijdag

Lack of time to obtain proper visas has forced the necessity for two of Greg Cohen Promotions’ (GCP) fighters to switch places on short notice for this weekend.

Op Zaterdag, April 18, Cornwall, Ontario’s Tony “Bliksem” Luis (19-2, 7 KO) will now face UK veteran Derry Matthews (37-9-2, 20 KO) for the Interim WBA Lightweight Championship at the Echo Arena in Matthews’ hometown of Liverpool, Engeland, as the main event of a night of boxing presented by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions.

Luis was originally scheduled to face Memphis, Tennessee, veteraan Ira Terry (26-13, 16 KO) in the televised co-feature of the “Championship Boxing op CBS Sports Network” evenement, presented by Greg Cohen Promotions in association with Adam Wilcock’s Fight Card Promotions and produced by David Schuster’s Winner Take All Productions onVrijdag, April 17, van het Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minnesota.

Unbeaten Venezuelan slugger Ismael Barroso (17-0-2, 16 KO), who was originally scheduled to face Matthews, was unable to obtain the proper visas in time to fight on such short notice in England. He will now take Luis’ place in Hinckley and will take on Terry in an eight-round attraction deze vrijdag.

Promotor Greg Cohen is het verzenden van zijn felicitaties uit naar nog ongeslagen linkshandige Ismael “El Tigre” Barroso, en tal van anderen, na zijn zeer succesvolle en volledig uitverkochte quadrupleheader spannende ShoBox: The New Generation-televisie knock-outsop vrijdag avond in de Space op Westbury in Westbury, New York.

 

Barroso (17-0-2, 16 KO), van El Tigre, Venezuela, maakte zijn Amerikaanse tv-debuut en pakte de Lichtgewicht Kampioenschappen Nabo en NABA met een indrukwekkende TKO over gutty New Yorker Issouf Kinda (17-3, 7 KO).

 

Na vijf ronden voor het absorberen van de macht Barroso, met inbegrip van een vijfde-round one-punch knock-down, Kinda ontwikkeld problemen met zijn visie en het gevecht werd gestopt slechts drie seconden in de zesde ronde. Eye-opening overwinning Barroso, echter, was niet zonder een prijs, als hij leed vervelende bezuinigingen boven zijn rechteroog en onder zijn linkeroog van toevallige heabutts.

Maar weer op de rails nu en het werken met GCP, de hemel lijkt op de limiet voor deze Zuid-Amerikaanse met granieten vuisten zijn.
