Greg Cohen Promotions Signs Super Middleweight Derrick Webster to a Promotional Contract

Greg Cohen Promotions proudly announces the signing of once-beaten super middleweight Derrick “Take It to The Bank” Webster.

 

 

 

Glassboro, New Jersey’s Webster (28-1, 14 KOs) stands an enormous 6’ 4”, with fast and powerful hands. The naturally athletic southpaw only had 40 amateur fights and didn’t even start boxing until age 24 but picked up the sport very quickly.

 

 

 

Unlike most world-class fighters, Webster is a successful home-remodeling and construction business owner. He also played power forward for two seasons for the University of Maryland basketball while earning a bachelor’s degree in Juvenile Criminal Justice.

 

 

 

"Es fühlt sich unglaublich,” said Webster of the signing. “I feel like I belong on this level. I have a different story from the people I’m around. They’ve been fighting since they were kids. I didn’t pick up gloves until I was 24. For me to be here, with people who have been fighting all their lives… I’ve already reached a level a lot of guys never reach.”

 

 

 

Webster says trusting the wrong people made for a tough road earlier in his career, but he’s ready for a run at a world championship now that he has father figure/trainer Denny Brown and the experienced promoter Cohen on his side.

 

 

 

“From early on, people have been promising this and promising that. I’m past that point. I deal with that earlier in my career. I don’t have the patience to be playing around anymore. Greg says we’re fighting December 1 and then we will come back and fight again early next year. I expect to break into the world ratings and take my shot at a world championship.”

 

 

 

Webster is unique in that he’s not financially dependent on boxing. All of his sacrifice and work is done because he wants to.

 

 

 

“A lot of guys fight because they need it for their identity. I am successful in business already. I have built myself up as a brand. I have businesses that are doing well. Boxing just adds to my life. I still act. I do modelling. I don’t have to worry about money in boxing.”

 

 

 

Cohen says he’ll act quickly with Webster to get him into position for a world championship challenge.

 

 

 

“Derrick is a unique talent who is overdue for a big fight. With almost no previous experience, he has worked his way to a 28-1 record with solid wins over several reliable veterans. At the top of his potential, he can be a super middleweight version of (ehemaliger Weltmeister im Weltergewicht) Paul Williams. Atlantic City, New Jersey (Juni 1, 2018)–Supermittelgewicht Derrick Webster schlug seinen Weg zu einer einstimmigen Entscheidung über Oscar Riojas in 10 Runden im Hauptereignis einer Karte mit fünf Kämpfen bei Das Claridge Hotel.

 

 

 

Mis Downing Promotions förderten die kapazitätsnahe Show.

 

 

 

Mit dem Sieg, Webster gewann den Titel im Super-Mittelgewicht der American Boxing Federation Continental Americas.

Isiah Seldon erzielte zwei Niederlagen auf dem Weg zu einer einstimmigen Entscheidung über sechs Runden gegen Lamar Harris in einem Kampf im Super-Mittelgewicht.

James Wilkins Joe Gbola stoppte am Ende der zweiten Runde ihres geplanten Vier-Runden-Kampfes im Federgewicht.

 

 

 

Wilkins ließ Gbolo in der Mitte der 2. Runde fallen, und schlug dann für den Rest der Runde auf seinen Gegner ein. Der Kampf wurde zwischen den Runden gestoppt.

 

 

 

Wilkins von Brooklyn, NY ist 4-0 mit 4 Knockouts. Gbolo von Newbergh, NY ist 3-3-2.

 

 

 

In der Eröffnung Kampf des Abends, Felix Manzueta stoppte Antonio Allen in Runde zwei eines geplanten Vier-Runden-Kampfes im Weltergewicht.

Atlantic City, New Jersey (August 5, 2017)–Derrick Webster continued his quest towards a world title shot by taking out Lamar Harris in a scheduled eight-round super middleweight bout that headlined a six-bout card at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.
The show was promoted by Mis Downing Promotions in association with Square Ring Promotions.

Webster dropped Harris at the end of round one as he landed a perfect straight left hand. After that it was a matter of when Webster would end the night., as Harris was hurt, but came out to endure 28 seconds of pounding before the bout was stopped.
Webster, 167.8 lbs of Glassboro, NJ ist jetzt 24-1 mit 13 Knockouts. Harris, 167.9 lbs of Saint Louis, Missouri is now 9-14-4.
“We have been working hard, and now I am looking for a title. I want George Groves,” sagte Webster.
“I knew after I dropped him after the first round, the fight would be over soon thereafter. I know Groves is in the tournament, so why not Badou Jack. I would love to fight him.”
Prince Badi Ajamu shook eight years of ring rust to pound out an eight-round uannimous decision over Edgar Perez in a cruiserweight bout.

Ajamu, 191.4 Pfund Camden, NJ gewonnen durch Dutzende von 80-72 zweimal und 79-73 und ist jetzt 28-3-1. Perez, 190 lbs of Chicago is 7-22.

“He did more than enough to earn the rematch tonight. Now it is just a matter of making it work financially and all by getting sponsorship’s and such, and that fight can happen, sagte Jones.

World-ranked heavyweight Zhang Zhilei hammered out Nick Guivas in round one of their scheduled ten-round bout.

Zhilei dropped Guivas in the first frame with a hard six-punch combination in the corner. Seconds later, Zhilei finsihed off the fight with a crushing four-punch combination on the ropes and the bout was stopped at 2:43.

Zhilei, 254.8 lbs of Zhoukou, China is now 17-0 mit 13 Knockouts. Guivas, 238 lbs of Topeka, KS is 13-8-2.

Mike Hilton went the distance for the first time, but still came out with the six-round unanimous decision over Willis Lockett in a cruiserweight bout.

Hilton, 198.5 lbs of Trenton, NJ gewonnen durch Dutzende von 60-54, 58-56 & 60-53 to raise his unblemished mark to 7-0. Lockett, 194.6 Pfund Takoma Park, MD is 14-21-6.

Shaddy Gamhour stopped Jessie Singletary in first round of their scheduled four round middleweight bout.
Gamhour, who is trained by Roy Jones, Jr. landed a hard right hand that sent Singletary to the canvas and the bout was stopped at 1:43.
Gamhour, 163,5 lbs of Pensacola, FL is now 4-0 mit drei Knockouts. Singletary, 167.3 lbs of Washington, DC ist 0-3.
Tahlik Taylor brauchte nur 31 seconds to bludgeon Lamont McLaughlin in a scheduled four round super middleweight bout.

Taylor jumped on McLaughlin and landed a vicious combination in the corner that sent McLaughlin hard to the canvas and the was stopped immediately.

Taylor, 172,8 Pfund Freihafen, NY ist 2-7 mit 1 schlagen. McLaughlin, 167.2 Pfund von Philadelphia ist 0-2.

Atlantic City, New Jersey (August 2, 2017)–In 2009, and after winning two in a row, Light Heavyweight contender Prince Badi Ajamu walked away from the ring at age 37.
Ajamu, who was a perennial contender had a record of 27-3-1 mit 15 Knockouts, but decided that he needed some time away from competitive action.
Fast forward eight years, Ajamu steps back in the ring as he takes on Edgar Perez in the six-round co-feature bout an diesem Samstag Nacht am Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

Ajamu, jetzt 45 years-old of Camden, New Jersey has kept in great shape while away from the squared circle.
“I have been helping people in the gym the whole time, and I decided that if I am putting time in that, I mind as well get back in there and do this on my own,” said Ajamu.
Ajamu also believes that being in the ring will also help fight for a cause that he has been involved with for sometime.
“What better way to bring attention to child abduction, which is a big problem in this country then to be in the ring and help get the message out there.”
Ajamu said that at age 45 that this is not a one-and-done situation, as he plans to stick around for specific purposes.
“The goal is take this as far as I can. I want to win another title and tie another Camden legend, “Jersey” Joe Walcott,” said the former Pennsylvania, IBC Inter-Continental, WBC Continental Americas, WBC Caribbean, , WBO NABO and World Boxing Foundation Light Heavyweight champion.
Another goal is a rematch with legendary Roy Jones, Jr.
Jones defeated Ajamu in 2006, and its’s more than a coincidence that Jones will be in a attendance as a co-promoter for the event.
“Yes there is definitely a reason why I am on this card, and Roy is co-promoting, but I have to get past Perez. I know he is a tough fighter who comes forward, and he is capable as I know Lavarn Harvell who was undefeated at the time that he beat him.”
“I have been in the gym, and have been working on things. You will see a more technical version of me,. Like I said I been in the gym, and now I want to use the energy on something significant.”

Atlantic City, New Jersey (August 1, 2017)–Super-Mittelgewicht Anwärter Derrick Webster is looking to fight the elite of the division, but he first first must get by Lamar Harris in a scheduled eight-round bout that will headline a big night of boxing at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The show is promoted by Mis Downing Promotions and Square Ring Promotions.

Webster has been on a roll, and now he looks to continue his momentum against Harris.
“I really don’t know much about him. I just know that he knows that he is fighting me. I don’t know him, but I am sure he knows who I am,” sagte Webster.
Webster attributes his most recent success to a more active schedule as this will be his 3rd fight of this year and 5th fight in the last 14 Monate.
“The more that I fight, the more consistent that I am. When I had other people in charge of my career, I was fighting less frequent. Maybe fighting every six or seven months. Now I have been more active and that goes hand in hand with my performances. I was getting in the ring to trying shake off ring-rust and now I am going in there not worrying about that.”
Webster is not overlooking Harris, but He is looking to close of 2017 fighting higher level of opponents, und 2018 looking for a big title shot.
“My target is WBA champion George Groves. I never wanted to face Harris. I wanted to fight guys with better records and for many reasons including opponents pricing themselves out, but guys won’t fight me. I do appreciate that Harris stepped up for the challenge so I respect him for that. Hopefully I can fight someone like Mike Tiberi next for a major regional title, then have my eye towards a world title in 2018.”
