LONDON – February 23, 2019 - Chris Eubank Jr. earned a career-defining victory with a hard-fought unanimous decision over British rival and former two-time world champion James DeGale in a super middleweight grudge match Saturday on SHOWTIME from The O2 in London.

After a series of combos in the opening minute of the third, Joyce caught Stiverne with a straight right hand to send him to the canvas for the fifth time in his professional career. Stiverne survived the round while throwing looping shots but failed to return any meaningful punches.



Joyce, the 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist, consistently set up a powerful straight right behind an accurate and effective left jab throughout the fight. With Joyce (8-0, 8 KO) continuing to tee off against a largely defenseless Stiverne, referee Howard Foster stepped in to halt the contest at 2:26 ze šestého. “I’m not convinced [Chris will win] because James DeGale has pedigree. Being an [Olympic] Gold Medalist and former world champion is real. I respect the man’s abilities. Junior hasn’t.



“My son looks at the physical aspect of boxing and, from a physical point of view, I don’t think there is anyone who can stand with him. But boxing isn’t just physical – it’s also spiritual, and that’s where Junior lacks. I don’t know whether he has that.



“This is a 50/50 fight and for the first time I am petrified of what the outcome can be. I am petrified that Junior may not win this fight.



“This is the wisdom of someone who has been here. You never underestimate your opponent based on past performances. Anyone who thinks this guy is on a slide because of past performances is making a mistake.



“From a physical aspect, Junior has the upper hand. From a spiritual aspect and pedigree aspect, James has the upper hand, and that’s why this is a 50/50 boj.



“I do know Chris has learned and let’s see what is produced. It can be a brilliant fight.”





Paulie Malignaggi:

“I like our chances. I know the guy that I have been in camp with. The things I’ve seen, I like. They are much more positive this time around.



“You can’t underestimate a guy like Eubank. He always comes to win. Ale, regardless of the gameplan, there is a certain mentality and my guy has it. He’s a Gold Medalist and he knows what mentality to bring on Saturday.



“James has won two major world titles, an Olympic Gold Medal. Chris has had some good wins but when he went to that elite level, he lost. Chris is a good fighter but he’s not beaten this level of opposition.”

Deerfield Beach, FL (Říjen 4, 2018)—Hall of Fame boxing promoter Don King and heavyweight contender Bermane Stiverne hoped to settle things in the ring in Yekaterinburg, Russia with former Olympic gold medalist Alexander Povetkin on Dec. 17, 2016.

 

 

 

Stiverne never got the opportunity in the WBC heavyweight eliminator that morning, when WBC officials announced Povetkin had tested positive for the illegal substance ostarine and the WBC pulled the sanctioning and the fight was cancelled.

 

 

 

King and Don King Productions and Stiverne will now settle things in court as they have filed suit for $2 million in the Court of Arbitration for Sport against Alexander Povetkin and the World of Boxing.

 

 

 

Don King Productions and the World of Boxing came to an agreement on Nov. 6, 2016 for the WBC sanctioned fight between Stiverne and Povetkin scheduled for Dec. 17, 2016 with the winner facing Deontay Wilder.

 

 

 

Both fighters were to receive purses of $1,424,250 and the winner of the fight would have earned an additional $316,500. It was the second failed drug test by Povetkin in a seven-month period.

 

 

 

Stiverne hopes to return to the ring to fight for the world title again.

“I have no fear heading into this fight. It’s not that I didn’t see the openings in the last fight, I just couldn’t physically perform how I needed to.

“I’m hungry to win. I’m always motivated and excited about getting into the ring, but obviously this is the biggest chance I’m going to have.

“On all of our gear we wrote #VegasStrong. We want to send a message to everyone in Vegas that I don’t just live there, but it is part of my heart now. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the tragedy and now we are over a month past that. I am fighting for the people of Vegas.”
ADRIAN GRANADOS
“It means a lot to me to be in this fight on this stage. I definitely need to win and bounce back from my loss to Broner and show that I have a lot more to give to this sport. I’m far from down and out, I just showed up to the party and I’m ready to leave my mark.
“Myslím si, že 147 is a weight that I’ll be good at. I’ve fought here and at 140-pounds so I’m comfortable either way. This was just an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.

“I’m always looking for the next big challenge. Eventually I would like to break my own record and look to grab a title in a sixth weight class. I’m ready to take on the best fighters and the biggest challenges.
“You can’t underestimate anyone in this sport, so we trained very hard leading up to this one. She’s coming in here to knock my head off. This camp was actually a little different because I didn’t have to diet for this fight. I could actually eat at this weight and I’m feeling really strong.
“I’m facing a tough girl who’s only been stopped twice, so my goal is to make this one quick. The faster the fight the easier for me and it gives the fans something to get excited about.”
CHRIS COLBERT
“I’m different from a lot of other up-and-coming fighters in this business. I’m willing to take risks. In this boxing game it’s either win or lose, and I’m in it to win.
“I’m familiar with Titus as a fighter and I know that I have what it takes to beat him. That’s the name of the game and that’s the goal v sobotu.
“Training camp was tremendous. This was the longest camp that I’ve ever had. We’ve gone strong for seven weeks straight. No days off, just hard work every day.

Porter hovořil ze svého tréninkového kempu v Las Vegas, zatímco Granados sdílel své myšlenky z tábora v Chicagu, jen něco málo přes týden, než půjdou od špičky k patě v Brooklynu:
SHAWN PORTER
“Tréninkový kemp dopadl velmi dobře. Většinu naší práce jsme udělali zde v Las Vegas a také trochu na Wild Card v Kalifornii. Nyní jsme na konci tábora. Každý den bude vzrušující, protože se zužujeme a připravujeme se na něj Listopad 4.
“V tomto bodě se cítím velmi dobře obeznámen s Granadem. Jednou v noci jsem sledoval asi tři nebo čtyři jeho zápasy a nějaké rozhovory a opravdu jsem si ho vložil do mysli. Je to agresivní bojovník, který se nedá snadno zranit nebo zklamat tím, co se děje v ringu. Ať už je to on, kdo dostane ránu, nebo když ho soupeř mine.
“Bude to velmi konkurenční boj. Klíčem k jeho poražení bude moje rychlost. Musím ho vybalit, přimět ho jít do několika těžkých výstřelů a nakonec ho vyřadit.
“Miluju Las Vegas, ale vždy jsem velmi nadšený, že dostanu příležitost bojovat v Barclays Center. Je to opravdu zábavná aréna. Energie tam není žádná. Naprosto miluji, když můžu bavit davy tam venku v Brooklynu.
“Jdeme po titulu WBC. Zaměříme se na Keitha Thurmana. Ten odvetný zápas chci uskutečnit někdy příští rok. Mimo to, jediný bojovník, na který myslím, je Danny Garcia, protože je to chlap, se kterým si myslím, že bych svedl vzrušující souboj.”
ADRIAN GRANADOS
“Vím, že mám styl přátelský k fanouškům a nutím svého soupeře bojovat bez ohledu na to, jestli bouchá nebo boxuje. Fanouškům a médiím jsem známý tím, že přináším vzrušující souboje. Bude to boj noci.
“Bylo to překvapení, když jsem dostal výzvu k tomuto souboji, ale skočil jsem hned po příležitosti dostat se do ringu se Shawnem Porterem.. Měl těsný souboj s Keithem Thurmanem a vyhrál nad Adrienem Bronerem, takže vítězství nad ním mě staví zpět do čela divize..
“Shawn bojoval 165 v amatéry, mnohem větší než já a dobře si ho pamatuji, byl také fotbalista, takže byl mnohem těžší. Od té doby, co se stal profesionálem, jsem trávil více času sledováním jeho zápasů a jeho studiem, zvláště v posledních několika týdnech s vědomím, že spolu bojujeme 147.
“Je pro mě lepší hned od začátku vědět, jaká je váha 147, předchozí tábor pro Bronera, ve kterém jsme začínali 142 a pak se musel přestěhovat 147 velmi pozdě v táboře. S vědomím, že to bylo 147 od začátku mi pomohl lépe se připravit na tento boj se Shawnem Porterem. Také mi pomůže, když budu v noci na boj o něco těžší.
“Trénink a sparing byly tady v Chicagu v Garfield Park Gym. Tábor byl úžasný, velmi hladké, zejména bez problémů s hmotností.
“Jsem velmi nadšený, že budu bojovat v Barclays Center a vím, že toto je spíše neutrální stránka. Vím, že Shawn je favorit, ale z boje v Brooklynu mám dobrý pocit. Dvakrát jsem byl v Barclays Center sledovat zápasy a jsem nadšený, že tam budu bojovatpříští sobotu noc.
“Kdybych vyhrál, Budu povinný získat pás WBC Keitha Thurmana a to je moje motivace. Očekávejte klasický „El Tigre“.’ výkon, žádné couvání, ne končit, klasický boxerský zápas.”
