GH3 Promotions Antoine Douglas ready for big performance on Saturday night

Nutley, Nova Jersey (Març 3, 2016) – Aquest Dissabte nit al Sands Bethlehem Events Center, invicte de pes mitjà Antoine Douglas (19-0-1, 13 Nocauts) will face the toughest test of his career when he takes on rugged Avtandil Khurtsidze in the co-feature bout of a SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION®.
This fight is the continuing process of Douglas’ promoter GH3 Promotions, which has groomed the Washington, D.C. native from his first professional bout.
Douglas set the model for what GH3 Promotions is all about and that is grass roots developing.

NOVA YORK (Març 2, 2016) - SHOWTIME Sports llança la seva tercera entrega d'una salutació d'un any de commemoració 30 anys de SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING al març amb "Llegendes".

 

Aquest mes serà destacat per les llegendes Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Félix Trinitat, Ricardo “Finito” López i George Foreman. Set de les baralles més inoblidables i importants d'aquestes llegendes, algunes de les quals poques vegades s'han tornat a emetre des de la seva presentació en directe, ja estan disponibles a les plataformes a la carta de la xarxa i s'emetrà a continuació. “Dijous de retrocés”al març a les 10 p.m. I/PT per SHOWTIME EXTREME.

 

La Dijous, Març 10 presentació de Marvin Hagler vs. John Mugabi s'emet exactament 30 anys després de la victòria final de la carrera del Saló de la Fama de Hagler el març 10, 1986. Hagler vs. Mugabi va ser el primer esdeveniment principal que s'ha emès a SHOWTIME®.

LLEGENDES

La boxa sense llegendes seria com la religió sense sants.

No hi ha cap fórmula perquè un lluitador avanci d'estrella a superestrella i llegenda. El procés depèn del temps, circumstància, i de vegades només un punt o dos sobre els jutges’ targetes.

I oh, si: Ajuda si un noi realment pot lluitar.

Com ho celebrem 30 anys de boxa a SHOWTIME, ens centrem en un tema diferent cada mes. Durant tot el mes de març, el tema serà Llegendes.

Al 130 anys des de John L. Sullivan a Floyd Mayweather, la boxa ens ha donat allò que altres esports no poden oferir. Considereu:

  • L'Associated Press va votar la derrota de Jack Dempsey per part de Luis Firpo com el millor moment esportiu de la primera meitat del segle XX..
  • La "Lluita del segle" de Frazier-Ali a 1971 va ser fàcilment l'esdeveniment esportiu més esperat de la història.
  • La lluita Mayweather-Pacquiao de l'any passat va generar més de mig milió de dòlars — en una nit!

Les llegendes les fan grans moments … i com responen a aquests moments.

A SHOWTIME, hem presentat tres dècades de llegendes. Aquí teniu un cop d'ull als que compartiran el focus al març.

MARVIN HAGLER: Ja que Vince Lombardi no ho va dir exactament, "El temps no ho és tot, és l'única cosa,"Hagler ho hauria d'haver dit.

Hagler va ser un gran lluitador molt abans de ser una superestrella, però no va ser fins que va lluitar contra Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, i Sugar Ray Leonard (tres dels últims sis combats de Hagler) que Marvin es va convertir en meravellós.

L'única aparició de Hagler a SHOWTIME, que va ser el primer combat televisat a la xarxa (Març 1986), va ser la darrera victòria de la seva carrera. Invicte acabat 10 any, Hagler s'havia establert com un dels pesos mitjans més grans de la història. SUGAR RAY LEONARD: Si Hagler va florir tard, Leonard era una superestrella abans de donar un cop de puny com a professional.

A mitjans dels anys 70, això és un somriure magnètic, una medalla d'or olímpica, i l'exposició repetida a la televisió en hora de màxima audiència podria servir per a un jove lluitador.

És irònic que Leonard va ser vist inicialment per alguns com una creació acoblada dels mitjans de comunicació. De fet, era tan dur com qualsevol lluitador de principis dels vuitanta, ple d'estrelles. Millor encara, segueix sent el millor lluitador que he cobert 38 anys al ritme de la boxa.

L'aparició de Leonard a SHOWTIME va ser el penúltim combat de la seva carrera. En optar per posar fi a un altre llarg acomiadament, Sugar Ray, 34, va escollir l'excel·lent campió de pes superwelter de 23 anys Terry Norris com a oponent. Leonard va abandonar 160 a 154 lliures i va lluitar al Madison Square Garden per primera vegada.

El combat va servir com a recordatori que almenys en un món anterior a Bernard Hopkins, la boxa era un joc molt jove.

FELIX TRINIDAD: Només hi ha tres lluitadors hispans que es van convertir en superestrelles als EUA sense parlar anglès. El primer va ser el panamà Roberto Duran. El segon va ser el mexicà Julio César Chávez.

La tercera va ser la Trinitat de Puerto Rico.

El lema de Trinitat també podria haver estat, "Si no pots ser d'Amèrica, després vèncer Amèrica".

Un punxador clàssic amb un somriure de boy scout i una personalitat favorable als fans, Trinidad es va fer un nom derrotant quatre U.S. Olímpics, Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya (encara que per una decisió terrible), David Reid, i Fernando Vargas.

D'altra banda, Whitaker, De la Hoya, i Reid havien estat tots medallistes d'or.

La lluita en la qual participarem Març 17 a SHO Extreme, Trinitat vs.. Reid, va ser la 14a i última aparició de Trinidad a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING i SHOWTIME pay-per-view.

Del seu kayo guanyador del títol de pes welter de Maurice Blocker a 1993 mitjançant la seva defensa contra Mahenge Zulu a 1998, 13 de Trinitat 14 els combats es van emetre a SHOWTIME. Dotze d'aquestes baralles van ser victòries per nocaut.

On Trinidad es classifica amb Wilfredo Gomez, Miguel Cotto, Carlos Ortiz, Wilfred Benítez, i la resta de llegendes de Puerto Rico és discutible. El que és indiscutible és que "Tito" va generar tanta il·lusió com qualsevol lluitador de la seva època.

RICARDO LOPEZ: El que és més petit: la possibilitat que un pes de palla (105 lliura) esdevé una estrella de la televisió nord-americana o el mateix lluitador?

Mai hi ha hagut un campió del món nord-americà de pes palla (o pes mínim). Simplement no creixem lluitadors d'aquesta mida. De fet, fins a l'aparició del mexicà López a principis dels 90, la majoria dels aficionats a la boxa nord-americans no haurien pogut identificar un sol pes de palla si estiguessin armats amb un mapa del món i un conjunt de classificacions del CMB.

López era tan complet, tan dominant, tan tècnicament perfecte, que de 1994 al '99, va ser un element bàsic de la programació de boxa de SHOWTIME. Va lluitar 13 combats consecutius a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING o SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View, i el primer 11 d'aquells concursos eren les defenses del títol de pes palla.

I si creus que els petits no poden punxar, bé, hi havia uns kayos d'un cop esquitxats.

López, que es va retirar amb una marca de 51-0-1, és universalment reconegut com un gran de tots els temps. Llàstima que mai no va lluitar contra l'americà Michael Carbajal en pes mosca lleuger. Si hagués guanyat aquell combat, probablement seria reconegut com un dels dos o tres millors lluitadors mexicans mai.

La qual cosa diu molt per a un lluitador que mai es va enfrontar a un oponent reconegut pel públic espectador nord-americà.

ANAHEIM, Califòrnia. (Febrer. 27, 2016) – Lleó “El Terratrèmol” Santa Creu va defensar el seu campionat mundial de pes ploma de l'AMB de manera convincent en dissabte nit, tombant Kiko “Sensació” Martínez dues vegades a la primera ronda, després, acabant-ho amb una pluja de cops de puny quan es va convocar la baralla 2:09 a la cinquena ronda a la prova principal d'a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING doble capçalera a Honda Center a Anaheim, Califòrnia.

Cameras Will Be Following the Fighters At The Brigade Boxing Championship Aquest divendres Nit

NOVA YORK (Febrer. 25, 2016) - 60 MINUTES SPORTS will offer a window into one of the most time-honored traditions in America’s military when it presents a segment on the U.S. Naval Academy’s boxing program and its annual Brigade Boxing Championship. The feature builds up to the 75º championship this Friday, Febrer. 26, in Annapolis, Md., and correspondent Jack Ford and 60 MINUTES SPORTS will be in the arena to record the action for the men’s and women’s bouts. The report will appear on the next edition of 60 MINUTES SPORTS, Dimarts, Març 1 a 9 p.m. I/PT, per SHOWTIME.

 

Boxing has been practiced at the nation’s second oldest military institution for 150 any, and midshipmen have vied for the Brigade Boxing Championship since 1941. Along the way to this year’s 75ºanniversary, the academy has made learning to box a requirement of graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy.

 

The man who teaches the “sweet science” to midshipmen – male and female – is Head Boxing Coach Jim McNally. It’s about future leaders facing fear. “We use boxing…as a laboratory…an environment of controlled stress, physical fear,” says McNally. “We want them to learn a lot about themselves and how they’re going to react to those situations,” he tells Ford.

 

60 MINUTES SPORTS shot the story in Annapolis in the fall and last January to show the process and tell the stories of three midshipmen who will be in the ring aquest divendres fighting for a championship. One of them, Samantha Glaeser, has a chance to make academy history. There have been only 19 at Annapolis to win the crown all four years at the Naval Academy, and none was a woman. Glaeser has a chance Divendres nit.

 

Ford also speaks with Glaeser’s foe, Stephanie Simon, another midshipmen with pugilistic talents who has a National Collegiate Boxing championship under her belt. She has not been able to defeat Glaeser, però, in their two previous meetings for the brigade championship.

 

Ford also talks to Midshipman Jourdan Looney, whose two brigade championship titles are testament to what boxing means to the Academy. He had no boxing experience before he entered the Naval Academy. “Boxing…fighting is one of my biggest fears. I conquer that one fear, I’ve conquered any other fear that I could possibly have.” He’ll be in contention for his third brigade title Divendres nit.
