Irish amateur heavyweight champion Con Sheehan To make pro debut Jan. 19 in L.A.

CORK, Irlande (Janvier 4, 2016) – Six-time Irish National heavyweight champion Avec Sheehan will make his long awaited professional debut Janvier 19 dans un combat de quatre rondes, contre un adversaire à déterminer, at Nokia Club in Los Angeles.
Sheehan is scheduled to be in the swing bout, so there’s a possibility that his first pro fight will air live on the Fox Sports 1 diffusion.
Le 6′ 5 ½”, 220-pound Sheehan is athletic, in addition to being a physical specimen, who also captured a gold medal at the European Union Championships.
Possessing tremendous upside, Sheehan decided to enhance his pro boxing career a year ago, moving to Oakland to work with 2011 BWAA Trainer of the Year Virgil Hunter (pictured above with Sheehan). Dividends are already paying off for the young Irishman.
It’s been eye opening, I suppose, because Virgil is showing me the most simple of things, technically, that I’ve never seen before and it’s making a massive difference to me,” Sheehan said about being trained by Hunter. “My power has increased 10-fold with simple adjustments that I have learned from him. It was a bit of a shock because, I thought I’d cracked the technical side of boxing but he’s taken me to a whole new level.
The 26-year-old Sheehan has the advantage of directly learning from one of the most respected and successful trainers in boxing, Chasseur, whose top fighters include Andre Ward (pictured here with Con), Amir Kahn et Autres Berto.
Sheehan is the first Irishman that Hunter has ever trained. “Every coach has his own style and mine is old school from Texas,” Hunter explained. “Mine is slip ‘n slide and my fighters need good reflexes and good legs. Cornelius (Con) isn’t a dancer, but he moves the right way, and I like that a lot. I liked what I saw from the first time we met. He keeps himself in good shape and has a good amateur pedigree. I teach a pro style, even to amateurs, and some like Cornelius are better as pro fighters.
Cornelius is a strong kid. He’s made mistakes, but earlier in his life, and that’s a good thing. There’s always a transition period and it’ll take him a few years. He’s already proven his dedication by being here. If he keeps on track, fighting and training in the United States, he’ll get there in two-three years. The heavyweight division is changing. This is like the time (Tim)Witherspoon, (Greg) Page, (Franc) Bruno and a few others would win the world title and then lose it right back, jusqu'à (Micro) Tyson came along and cleaned up the division. I’m particularly happy with his progress the last six weeks; Cornelius is focused on doing it, instead of just doing it.
Sheehan is managed by Gary Hyde (Gestion des Nowhere2Hyde), who guided the career of world super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rogondeaux, as well as two-time world middleweight title challengerHassan N'Dam N'Jikam.
Con Sheehan has stood out to me as a fighter with incredible boxing skills who, I knew, would benefit greatly with Virgil Hunter as his trainer,” Hyde added. “After two intensive training camps, we are all satisfied that Con has what it takes to be a major force in the heavyweight division.

SIZE AND POWER MEET TECHNIQUE IN NEF 21 BOXING MAIN EVENT

Plus tôt aujourd'hui,, NEF announced the main event of the professional boxing portion of the “NEF 21” carte de combat. Northeast Junior Welterweight Champion Brandon “Le Cannon” Baie (10-1) will take on the undefeated Tollison Lewis (2-0) in a super welterweight contest scheduled for six rounds.

This is a classic battle of size and strength against technique,” ladite NEF co-propriétaire et promoteur Nick DiSalvo. “In one corner you have a polished boxer with a solid amateur background in the form of Brandon Berry, and he will be fighting in a heavier weight class in this bout. In the other corner you have a powerful brawler with an MMA background in the form of Tollison Lewis, and he has fought most of his career at 155 and 170-pounds. You can’t script a better contrast in styles for a bout like this. Just about anything could happen. It’s anyone’s fight. It’s going to be wild in the Colisee when this one goes off.

Berry is coming off what many consider to be the defining win of his still-young professional career over gritty Mexican veteran Roberto Valenzuela (73-70-2) last November at “NEF XX.” Despite suffering a bad cut above his eye early in the fight, Berry maintained his composure and looked sharp on his way to a unanimous decision victory in the first eight-round fight of his career. The West Forks, Maine native was a 2013 Northern New England Golden Gloves champion as an amateur. The fight with Lewis is expected to be the last Berry will compete in above his usual 140-pound junior welterweight division.

It’s great to be getting back in action inside the ring so soon, especially after suffering such a nasty cut over my eye from my last fight in November,” said Berry. “Thank you NEF for putting yet another very tough opponent in front of me. Tollison is a class act in and out of the ring, and I think our styles will make a crowd pleasing bout. I remember being undefeated still and I know how important keeping the ‘0’ on the record is. Tollison is a big, strong athlete and I’m sure he will be more than prepared. Both him and I understand competition, and will most likely be friends after this event. I’m glad to be sharing this main event fight with him, et que le meilleur homme gagne!”

Tollison Lewis’s foray into the boxing world was unplanned. En Octobre 2014, just 24-hours prior to the start of the firstNEF Boxing” événement, Lewis stepped in to face boxing veteran John Webster (8-7-1) after Webster’s previous opponent fell out. NEF executives, familiar with Lewis’s striking prowess in his MMA bouts, asked Lewis to take the fight at the last minute and Lewis did not hesitate to oblige. He went on to bully Webster for four rounds, (including knocking Webster out of the ring onto the timekeeper’s table), scoring a unanimous decision victory. This past November, in yet another dominant performance in the NEF boxing ring, Lewis stopped Zenon Herrera (0-1) with a third-round TKO. A win over a boxer of Berry’s caliber, aucun doute, would propel Lewis to the next level in the sport. Lewis is a member of Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ) in Lewiston where he trains under boxing coach Scott Frost.

Brandon is a tough guy and a good boxer,” a déclaré Lewis. “I’m expecting a war. I’ll be bringing everything I got, and I know he will too, but I’m planning on staying undefeated. I’m not going to run my mouth. I have a lot of respect for Berry, but fans do not want to miss this. This fight will be a war and steal the night. Thank you NEF and Brandon, let’s do it man!”

In co-featured bouts, invaincu Harmonito “Hammer” Dela Torre (17-0, 12 KOs), of Las Vegas by way of Philippines, makes his United States debut against Rafael Guzman (16-1-1, 10 KOs), de Ensenada, Mexico in an eight-round super featherweight bout and undefeated heavyweight Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller (15-0-1, 13 KOs) de Brooklyn, N. Y.. faces southpaw Donovan Dennis (14-3, 11 KOs, 2-1 in WSB) de Cleveland, Ohio in an eight-round scrap.

L'ouverture de la ShoBox émission de télévision, percutant Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0, 9 KOs), de Brooklyn, N. Y.. by way of Kazakhstan, répond Jared Robinson(16-2-1, 7 KOs), of Sumter, S.C. in an eight-round super lightweight tiff.

The event is promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions.

Boxing historian and expert ring analyst Steve Farhood has called every fight on ShoBox since it premiered in 2001. He anticipates another year of excellent, competitive matchups in 2016.

"Dans 2015, we had eight fighters who appeared on ShoBox et a continué à gagner des titres mondiaux. That means the average number of shows in which you’ll see a future world champion is one out of four,», A déclaré Farhood.

“We saw some fantastic prospects last year, y compris Erickson Lubin et Regis Prograis and fresh faces like Jarrett Hurd, Rob Brant—and a fighter who almost seems ready to fight for a title now—SergeyDerevyanchenko. Given ShoBox’s 15-year history, I’m fully expecting that we will have more of the same in 2016.’’

Brant, Perez and Miller will be making their second consecutive appearances on ShoBox. Brant and Miller were victorious last Octobre. 23, Perez last Août. 28. Robinson will also be making his second ShoBox start; the four other boxers will be making their debuts.

“Both Brant and Perez won their most recent appearances on ShoBoxand both were impressive,'' Farhood dit. “Brant took a big step up and outpointed Louis Rose in October and Perez pulled off the upset over the previously unbeaten Juan Ubaldo Cabrera en Août. So it makes all the sense in the world to match them against each other. Sur Jan. 22, we’re going to find out just how hot Rob Brant is.’’

Twenty-six-year-old Brant will be headlining his second consecutiveShoBox. In his first, he captured a hard-fought 10-round majority decision over Rose. Going 10 tours pour la première fois,, Brant triumphed in an entertaining tight fight.

Avant de passer pro en Novembre 2010, Brant was a 2010 Champion national des Golden Gloves à 178 livres et un membre de l'U.S. national boxing team pro. He currently trains in Dallas alongside top prospect Errol Spence Jr.

“I’m really excited about this fight and I’ve been training hard for several weeks now,’’ Brant said. “I’ve got a very serious opponent in front of me. He rates about a 7.7 at everything, which doesn’t leave a whole lot of weaknesses. I’ve got to go back to pure boxing for this one. I have to be better in every department. It’s my second time headlining ShoBox and I plan on improving from the first time, so viewers can chart my progress. This is my time to show my growth.’’

Perez, who hails from a fighting family, has won four straight and nine of his last 10. He scored a surprising, dérangé, a 10-round unanimous decision over Cabrera (23-0 allant dans) dans sa dernière sortie. Perez, qui a pris la lutte sur le préavis d'une semaine, outpointed the two-time Dominican Republic Olympian by the scores of 98-91 deux fois et 97-92.

“I’m so excited I’m the main event on national television,’’ Perez said. “I don’t know a lot about my opponent but I’m well prepared, both mentally and physically. I plan on giving the fans an exciting night.

“Camp is going very well. My management team has brought in top sparring with all undefeated boxers, one being Julian Williams. I’m excited that my trainer is allowing me to fight the majority, if not all of this fight, in the southpaw stance. I’m really a southpaw, but I have fought right-handed most of my career.”

Perez’ last loss came on a split eight-round decision to world title challenger Wilky Campfort en Janvier 2014. En dehors de l'anneau, Perez is a pharmacy technician at an Atlantic City hospital.

Meunier, a former New York Golden Gloves finalist who turned pro in July 2009, is a confident, power-punching heavyweight who comes to knock you out. He won his ShoBox debut, arrêt Akhror Muralimov with a devastating right hand to the chin at 1:03 au troisième tour.

“I feel like I should have been here two years ago,’’ Miller said. “I’m not coming to make friends. I’m here to annihilate and destroy the whole heavyweight division. Sur Jan. 22, I’m going to put Donovan Dennis to sleep. I’m not being heard right now, so I have to make myself known. After this fight and what I do to Dennis, things will really, really start to pick up. I’m ready to destroy.’’

Besides being a hard hitter, Miller has good overall skills and movement for a big man whose weight fluctuates from fight to fight. He’s won his last four by knockout, all inside three rounds.

Known for an aggressive style, Miller is now fully focused on a fistic career, but he hails from an MMA and kickboxing background. Depuis quelques années, il a participé à K-1, historiquement le principal organisme de kickboxing du monde, et combattu deux fois le légendaire Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović.

“There seems to be a new energy and enthusiasm on the American heavyweight scene,'' Farhood dit. “Part of that is explained by the fall of a dominant champion in Wladimir Klitschko and part of it is explained by the emergence of Deontay Wilder, and even Travis Kauffman. So for a young heavyweight like Jarrell Miller, the time seems to be ideal to secure TV exposure and make a name for himself.’’

Dennis, 28, was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa. Before turning pro in June 2010, he was a top-level amateur: 11-time Iowa State Champion, 2011 National Golden Gloves runner-up in and 2012 Le. S. Olympic Games Trials contestant.
The 6-foot-4 Dennis possesses good skills, movement and punching power to go with his strong amateur background. His weakness is durability; he’s been knocked out in all of his losses.

“I’m ready to fight,’’ Dennis said. “I’ve been training really hard and I am looking forward to the fight. I just want to get this win and move on as I will have a big year in 2016.’’

Dela Torre, considered one of the top young talents in the Philippines, will be fighting outside of Asia for the first time. A big puncher and winner of seven straight by knockout, 5 pieds 8, 21-year-old is coming off athird-round TKO over Ricard Betos dernier Novembre. 14.

“It’s every boxer’s dream to fight on big cards in United States. This is the next step in my pathway to becoming world champion,’’ Dela Torre said. "Je ne peux pas attendre. This is an opportunity I will take advantage of and show everyone I’m ready to step up. I let my team concentrate on my opponents and pass me instructions. I just know I’ll be ready and able to stop any opponent.’’

Before turning professional at 17, Dela Torre was a top member on the Philippine National Amateur Boxing Team. As a pro, he has made a “name” for himself after an impressive victory over Jason Butar-Butar on the undercard of a Manny Pacquiao-headlined fight in November 2013.

Guzman, a 5-foot-8½-inch 20-year-old, en sera à sa U.S. debut and initial start outside of Mexico since turning pro at 16 en Juillet 2011. In Dela Torre, Guzman will be taking a significant step up in class. Il a marqué un TKO au troisième round sur Pedro Lopez on his last start in Octobre. 9.

“I’m feeling very strong and ready for the challenge of this fight,’’ Guzman said. “Fighting on SHOWTIME is a huge opportunity for me. I hear my opponent is a good fighter, but I am ready for anything he can throw. Everybody is going to be talking about me after this fight.”

Yeyubov, 29, who could be on the fast track to stardom, is regarded by many to be the second-hardest Kazakh hitter in boxing, ranked only behind Gennady Golovkine. Since his days as an amateur when he won more than 150 combats, a vast majority by knockout, Eyubov has lived up to his reputation as a fearsome banger who looks to remove the judges from the equation.

He’s overwhelmed his first nine opponents as a pro, winning six by knockout in the first round and two by knockout in the second. The furthest he’s gone in a fight came in his second start when he scored a third-round TKO (2:57) sur Jhaquis Davis. Dans sa dernière sortie sur Octobre. 29, il a marqué un 1:27, TKO au premier tour plus Antonio Chaves Fernandes à Brooklyn.

Robinson, a pro since August 2009, fights out of Charlotte, N.C. A veteran of several scheduled 10-round fights, he’s undeniably the most experienced boxer Eyubov’s ever faced. A natural 140-pounder,Robinson won his initial 14 starts before losing on a fourth-round TKO to then-unbeaten Amir I sur ShoBox in a bout he took on short notice on Feb. 21, 2014.

Il ya deux départs, Robinson fought to a disputed eight-round split draw against then-unbeaten Haskell Rhodes (23-0 allant dans) sur Juin 21, 2015. An excellent boxer with good skills and movement, the 5-foot-9-inch Robinson, 33, is coming off a one-sided 10-round decision overChristian Dominguez dernier Sept. 26.
